Lynx usa 1979 citation laminate 1,3 and 5 wood
First set was dave pelz feather light irons 3 -sw followed shortly after by a set of ping eye 2 black dot 2 – sw ….played those all way threw high school golf ….91-95 ….yes i am old
My first, hand-me-down, half set was some Max Faulkner Avenger irons and persimmon woods. I knocked around the local back field until I got good enough to try a municipal course on the local common. Looking forward to watching the 'not so Junior' play off. Very nostalgic vlog 👍🏼
Aren’t todays 4 irons about same loft as those older clubs’ 3 irons? Isn’t that what strong lofts are about, but with lower center of gravity to get into air easier?
Kids in a candy store!! You should invite Jon and Ash to England to traipse about with you
Sam Snead Blue Ridge
Wilson Staff Tour Blades, puss boys
I love these trips to golfclubs4cash. I wish I had something like that near me in the U.S. Two comments, I can relate to Chris's comment on clubs getting stolen because I has several sets stolen in 2019. As far as clubs go, I have been a Titleist fan for a long time. My first driver was the 975D. Then I when through every driver up to my current TSR2. Most have been bought on the secondhand market just because of the price. My current irons are AP3's and I have Vokey wedges. My putter vary between my Scotty, a ping Scottsdale, and a Yes! Tracy II. Thanks for the trip down memory lane and I am looking forward to the match with these clubs between you two.
Ah the G5 fairway woods. I still have my 3 and 5 woods from when I was in high school. Played them for years. Just felt great and yeah a metal shaft in a wood now is unheard of. The Callaway X-12s were my first nice set of irons and they had stiff graphite shafts in them. Also crazy in 2004
Mr happy hahahahahahahahahahahahha
Controversial
Was Chris's set missing the 8 iron?
My first set was a Bob Rossberg set from Austad golf that matched from Driver to PW. The only other club I selected was a Ping putter. Austads is still around but started in my hometown as a mail order company. I won a closest to the pin contest with the 4 iron of that set with a very lucky hard swing against a strong wind from the right and I held my slice against it about two extra clubs in length.
What I would like to see is you buy your dream set of NEW clubs!
Why are you lagging behind you started 2 years earlier!!
I can always spend a full morning wondering round there when I’m over from Spain, James I love Golf Clubs 4 cash in warrington. Just a nice 40 min drive over from West Yorkshire!!
i wish we had a store like this in Canada near me
You bring back some great memories seeing some of those great old clubs.
JAMES!!! I still have 2 983Ks in my basement.
This stirred up a lot of forgotten memories for me! I had a Ray Cook M-1 mallet putter. It was a big deal because these were relatively new and Cook was in San Antonio, Texas making these things so being a Texan, I wanted one. Cook's putters were making inroads on the PGA and LPGA at this time. My Dad worked a deal with some club trades with a fellow and got it for me. The thing was ridiculously long, so off came the grip, cut the shaft to my preferred length, re-grip, and I was off to the races. My golf bag with clubs got stolen and the Ray Cook went away to be replaced by a Ping Answer (one of the early ones, which I still use.)
I use the Callaway x14 irons at the moment
I have a 983K HCR with the original Diamana Red flower band shaft in the closet… Illegal COR as I understand but crazy how it well it does against modern drivers distance wise. Not nearly as good when it comes to forgiveness though. Misses will have you down at the BBQ in the woods!
Are you going to play with the same ball you had when you were juniors?
I had my clubs stolen last week from my garage and was really gutted as I had my first ever Odyssey two ball putter in my set and my my nearly brand new Ping 430 10K max which I absolutely love, my wife is really pleased as she says I can spend a bit more time at home. She won't be pleased when I get myself all new shiny clubs for next season
Can you recommend a good used 7 wood please?
I’ve still got the Ping G5 with the Prolaunch Blue shaft and take it out on the course occasionally. It doesn’t have the distance of a modern day driver, but it is a fairway finder for sure.
i had a taylor made 200 steel shaft drier that's stil in my basement.
Are they opening a third store
I do enjoy a trip down memory lane, looking forward to the match
Around '88 I had Wilson 1200lt passes down from brother. Wood fairways with a clear perspex in middle of face
I had a 18 degree hybrid early 2000s
Do you guys play any irons with any lie angle even if it's not fit for you?
Wish we had this golf shop in USA.
Man, I wish we had a store like that in Columbus, Ohio!
My first REAL SET was Taylormade ICW II's, bought Christmas of 1992.
I had hand me down Northwestern irons from the 1960's (Grandfather to Father to me) back in the late 1970's with Marty Frugol laminate woods. I'd shoot like a 120 with them in 2024. Idk how we got along with them back in the day … 😂
Brilliant! Looking forward to the match!
I remember buying the R580 XD in 2003 I think and it was $379. My dad thought I was crazy paying that much for a driver. 20 years later and Titleist is charging almost double
Mine were used Mizuno T Zoid Pros. They were +1 inch, and I was 13 years old. Not an ideal fit. But they taught me the importance of centered strikes. My next set were Titleist AP2s.
My first clubs I got in 1941 were hand me down Gene Zarazen irons.
My first real irons were Cleveland VAS 792 with the crazy hosel! Corey Pavin had just won the US Open with them (supposedly 😜)!
