Night Golf Ideas

For those who have played night golf, what works and what doesn't work? What could be done better? What about the lighting? What would be needed to make a perfect night golf course?

I would kindly ask for more lights closer to the water and trees please.

If you build it, golf Reddit will come (literally…both ways)

Never done it before but here to say if it was an option I’d be doing this all the time, especially in the summertime.

This would be convenient in Arizona

Built in lights are much better – no generator noise.

9 – 12 holes. Par 3s mostly as well. Can’t have people searching for balls out of play in the night.

Do people want to play with regular balls and lots of lights, or do they want to use the light up balls and feel like rocks?

It’s very important not only to have lights pointing down on the course but also aiming up on the sky. The course manager at my local night golf course explained it to me. He said the upward facing lights helps illuminate your ball. Making it easier to track. In my experience night golf is only good for short par 3 “pitch and putt” courses. Anything else and you’re asking for lost balls.

As a Floridian, my first thought is mosquitoes

With enough lights it does work, if you stay on the fairway/roughs. Be prepared to just shoot a new ball if you hit it into the woods, just for the pace of play. If the ball is in any kind of shadow, you won’t find it since the lights are so bright. But you can see your ball in the air really well against the night sky.

One issue I’ve had with it was humidity. In a humid environment when the night air starts to cool down, everything will get wet. Everything. So the greens will be really slow, your grips will get wet/moist so bring a towel.

Also, it will take a lot of lights so it’s not going to be cheap either.

There’s a golf course near me that does this: [https://3s.golf/](https://3s.golf/) . Exclusively par 3’s and 12 holes. It’s a super fun and fast way to play. It’s also great for people who don’t normally play.

This would revolutionize golfing for me. Put the kid to sleep and have a night out on the course!

We have a local course that offers night golf.. I’ve always worried how drunk people will be. Many holes put you in harms way of people playing on others.

My local driving range has lights, and they won’t even turn them on this year due to the cost. They just close at sunset, which is making it increasingly harder to a hit a bucket after work. Place is always busy so I think the owners are just being cheapskates. Plus, their website say they’re open late. Lies!

My 8 year old asked me if I could go politely ask them to turn on the lights so he could finish hitting (people leaving gave him their leftover buckets). Oh child. They haven’t turned them on all season, and they aren’t starting today.

I have played a local night course in my area for decades. It’s a par 3. I love some of the new innovations the modern night course have ie lights the shine up as well. Our course is fun but you’re basically playing under street lights. The depth/distance perception is tough. It a great time though

Played the vidanta par 3 in Mexico , under the lights it’s a super fun round of golf. Anyone that hates that shouldn’t be allowed to golf.
The only thing I would add is a powerful light in the cup that shines in the sky like a lightsaber pin… but that would be difficult with moving pins

I know it’s frowned upon in this sub. But my favorite thing about the 18 hole par 3 night course by me is the atmosphere. Dudes pounding bud lights, missing the ball entirely on their swings. Music playing. It is a time when I can take my buddies who are terrible golfers and just have fun.

People, myself included, tend to take golf a little to seriously. On a full course, I do t want drunk dudes causing 6 hour rounds. But night golf just for fun is a great experience.

“He was night putting, just putting at night with the fifteen-year-old daughter of the Dean… You know who that guy was Danny?”

I’ve got a night course near me. Mostly par 3’s a few par 4’s, and sadly closes by 11.

    Really fun and cool though
