Watched my buddy puke all over himself trying to break 80 for almost a year.
It was bad. He flew out to custom fittings, etc. He poured time and money into that goal.
I didn’t know how to get him over the hump, but 1 day… after I had a few beers with him (after a double-triple finish to shoot 82), I mentioned that 80 shouldn’t be his goal.
If he’s blowing up down the stretch like that, he is fully capable of 75…
He played in an official club event with a giant ’75’ written in Sharpie on the back of his scorecard and the fucker shoots 75, on the number.
Intangible/mental barriers in golf are a very real thing.

Nice job. I’m miss playing golf. It was like the only good thing about Florida until Covid. Now it’s as shitty as everything else about Florida. Turns out moving to the place where all the morons are gonna wanna move to, since like 1950, was a bad idea. I blame myself. Nice round though. Only broke 80 once. And before it was a disaster to get a tee time in this place I tried a lot. 78 Venetian Bay, new Smyrna. Woke up at five in the morning to drive an hour north and go off at daybreak as a single. Kind of typical Florida course. Unimaginative, decent conditions, overpriced. But I had a good day. And all the 82s and 81s and 83 and 84 were forgotten. That was like five years ago, but it feels like 20 minutes. I probably played golf 20 times since then. Bought Mizuno split set around the time Covid hit. Spent over a G. Was so stoked. And I can’t even tell you for sure what model they are now. they’re just in my closet. I’m 50 years old and I have rarely found something as rewarding as golf is. Don’t let anything get in your way. Practice. I would be a much happier guy today…. If I played more than I do. Unless you’re a fat orange garbage cheater that also happens to be an ex president. You kind of get out of golf what you put into it. Which is refreshing.
