I Broke 90!

Just very excited and wanted to share my first time breaking 90! It's been my goal this season and I played a lot of solo rounds to get here since I couldn't get my friends to play as often. I started playing about 1.3 years ago on courses and a few months on the range prior. Came from playing soccer my whole life including in college so all of the mechanics were new to me. I have been playing 2-3 times a week (mostly 9 hole rounds but will get 18 in on the weekend).

The 2 biggest changes I've noticed in my game over the last couple of months are putting and mentality. I really struggled with putting until I changed my grip. I would push or pull putts constantly before… even at 2-3 ft. Make a great drive and approach… then 3 putt from a few ft and my head would be a mess the rest of the day.

I also would get extremely frustrated after bad shots that would stay with me. This round, I let every bad shot go and focused on hitting from wherever I ended up. I didn't lose a single ball the entire round! Throughout playing sports all my life, I know that even when I play well… I always get on myself about missing a pass or a shot that could have gone better. I think that competitive nature with myself has helped me become really good… however, now I'm realizing that doesn't work in golf. I play so much worse if I don't let a bad shot go. It's true that golf is played between the ears.

Thanks for listening to my Ted talk. Pic is of John A. White in Atlanta. 9 hole course that I played through twice once I realized I was on track to break 90.

  3. How is that course? I play Charlie Yates a lot but never made it over there. Is the area around it alright?

The highlight was getting par on the 9th which I had never done before and is the hardest hole… as well as the birdie on 14.

All right! Pat yourself on the back. Tomorrow, you’ll shoot 100. Golf is fickle. Keep your expectations low. Just plod along and golf your ball. AND PRACTICE AFTER YOU PLAY.
