  1. This is the fault of the courses. They allow it. It is ridiculous and there are certain types of people that are the worst.

  2. Golf course is just as much to blame if not more than slow play. Since covid, golf courses are stacking too many people on the course

  3. It all comes down to simple courtesy. If you know you’re holding up people in the back either, let them go by or quit spending so much time looking for your ball. And don’t wait for every member to hit their ball individually if one person is on one side of the fairway and other person on the other side of the fairway you both hit at the same time.

  4. stupid people should play Spalding balls not Titlists; take a drop and move on…
the 2nd ball going into the group ahead should be thrown as far away and out of bounds as possible… ⛳🏌️

  5. If the reason for the slow play is low skill level, theres a way to fix that, its called the driving range. If the reason for slow play is low skill level AND lack of etiquette, then i understand the frustration. Ultimately its the fault of the marshals for not enforcing pace of play.

  6. Slow play is constant issues however subjects to conditions:
    1) If your back group that are using carts then they can't complain, if they do then you can advice them to START WALKING lazy ass.
    2) If all of your back group are all walking then subject to each players handicap, if your playing group are all in the handicap high 18's and playing army golf then there nothing you can do if club competition are net stroke play. Other formats like stableford after double bogey pick it up.
    3) Searching for balls are time killers prompt to slow play. Just reload if your ball heading towards jungle, because you do not want to walk of shame back to tee box.
    4) Individuals walking pace, long legs walk fast, shorter legs walk slow(like me😢). To be able to keep up the pace READY GOLF. Safety walk in front of your playing group before the next person hit.

I am a big man and short legs our course are 6.1km long on blue tees( each tees around 10 to 15 meters in front from black pro tees)and finished on average 4h10m always 4 players mix with high and mid handicap.

  7. Golf courses are just being greedy with the golf boom that happened and making tee times too close. Every place I play on the weekends it's literally just backed up and almost 3 groups playing a hole every time.

  8. It's down to public courses getting rid of Marshall's not controlling when people start and going out on the course making sure people are playing in a good time or letting faster people play threw. Also people are blind to what's in front of the group they are behind.

  9. 4 hours is our clubs mean playing time. Of course I like the 3.5 hour finishing time much better but it’s still fine at 4.

  10. Courses are starting to push 8 min T times. So by the 4tg hole ur already backed up. I will never hit up on people and I always play ready golf.the rangers should push more.

  11. 15 minutes between each tee of time should be the standard and scramble should be mandated for groups over 2 if they don’t all have a reasonable handicap. I’m no scratch golfer myself so I’m not hating on higher handicaps but honestly no one wants to watch you shoot in the high 90s or 100s and it’s not a good experience for you either.

  12. There is a lot more people in the game of golf now, that's what golf WANTED isn't it?? SO, be patient, let people play through, or for you fast junkies out there, the same clowns who are probably road raging because of slow traffic, book the earliest tee times, or keep your yaps SHUT!!

  13. Play has definitely slowed over the last couple years however there is still a thing called respect and that also has been disappearing

  14. Senseless, if you don't have several hours don't go . If you can let someone play through and you are having a bad day then let them . If it's jammed up then shut up and quit your whining and wait your damn turn. Do not hit golf balls at another group ever ! I can't believe this is even a debate . Everybody has to start somewhere! We cannot all be at the same level. Some people are just there because it sounded fun lol they may have never even hit a ball before so damn it cut them a break or play through . No slow players aren't ruining the game , overgrown babies who think their time is more valuable than the next guys just because they are superior golfers are ruining the game . I hope golf snobbery dies .

  15. And what exactly constitutes slow play ? Is it only the time the group or player takes ? Because if I feel someone is giving an honest effort I don't really care how long it takes them , but the ignorant drunkards driving their carts recklessly, swiping and hacking their way from t to green , throwing cigarettes on the ground and just generally being obnoxious turds can go get bent ! I am so over drunken assholes it's not even funny . I am equally over the snobbery , it's everything terrible about the reputation golf has , literally personified so knock it off if that's you. You are playing a game which you PAID money to play and not the other way round… lose the elitist attitude because you are the problem .

  16. This is why it’s important for busy courses to have a full time marshal. Put em on the clock. Too slow and get them to sit out until it clears

  17. When I play with unknown players I always ask if they practice Ready golf and everybody says they do but in reality they don't! Most of the time they don't actually know what Ready golf is.
Slow play is a huge problem in Sweden and most courses don't have a marshall or a starter. The slowest player on the course dictate the tempo.

  18. Where's the course ranger? The ranger should be keeping up the pace of play and minimizing backups. Now, if the course is just completely backed up all of the time, there might be a problem with tee time scheduling.

  19. Much of the blame needs to be put on the Golf Club’s tee time setup if that public track has 7-8 min gap b/t tee times = ClusterFuck creates 5+ hour rounds which is unacceptable unless it’s a tournament!

  20. Barbarianism has finally found it’s way into “The Gentleman’s Game”. This is a societal issue and has crept into all walks of life. People are not taught respect and decency anymore. Are we surprised?

  21. We ? 4 of us played as soon as those behind were getting to close we let them play through easy as. Also as we are all older if we're on tee and the short hitters cannot get anywhere near the group in front whilst there on fairway we ask old uns to knock up, then others follow.

  22. A couple of years ago I was playing on a nine hole public course. Group in front of me had a newbie who would take five practice swings every shot. That all by itself wasn't the problem though. The problem was every time he hit the ball it went about 50 yds. He would take five practice swings, hit the ball 50 yards or less then repeat the process all over again for the entire hole. After about five holes of this insanity his friends finally told him to stop taking five practice swings. There was no fighting or cursing but was surely a test of everyone's patience.

  23. Some dude last week hit into us, there was 4 of us, 4 in front of us, and 4 in front of them… It was him and his buddy. So he kept standing on the driving green like he was inconvenienced every hole. Well he started his shit at hole 11. Almost hit me… Well I don't play dumb shit, so his ball got hit back back right to him. Just took my 5 hybrid and softly sent his ball back to him with a nice digit gesture. He did it again at hole 13. Well that ball ended up in the water after it about hit another person in our group. Needled to say, we called the Pro shop and explained what was going on. A marshal came out and told them to kick rocks, and leave the course. So dudes partner must had one to many, and proceeded to talk shit, and made a advance at one of the guys in our group. Well he fucked with the wrong one, and found out. Needles to say we got a apology from the dude left standing. The dude that was left eating grass ended going to the pokey cause he thought he was Billy bad ass…. You never know who or what the other person is about.

  24. So the group behind gets mad because you play too slow. The group ahead gets mad if you hit into them.
The REAL problem is…. now that golf is main stream, the average quality of person on the course in much lower. Thanks Tiger!

  25. An I don’t mean to brag, but I’ve played a lifetime of golf. An a lot of it frustrating, but I’ve somehow been able to pull it off without getting into physical violence over it! But I’m more grown up than most dipshits though too. Sorry, gotta brag about that evidently! An I’ve done a lot of it drunk to boot!! Yep, I’m that fuckin good!!

  26. Sorry if I hear a ball whiz by my head, whoever hit it that shot who didn't wait is going to take a nap, it took almost four hours for nine holes at the local municipal course, I will never play there again

  27. Yup golf at my local is slow as shit as well. Looking at 5hrs on a weekend, and it was even a full 4 1/2 on a random monday afternoon last week. Its gone mad how slow rounds now take.

I do somewhat agree with "shrink the game", i mainly want golf bros who are there to drink first and play golf 2nd to just find a different hobby, and maybe the noobs to just not play at peak times like a saturday morning.

But the main thing golf needs is rule changes.
I'd say a couple good rule changes that make sense and would speed up play are:

    1. Gallery rule. A ball that cant be found quickly but stayed in play due to thick rough, leaf cover, plugged in the fairway, etc is a free drop from your best guess as to where it was. Cuts down on searching time and unnecessary penalties. We dont have spotters and dozens of fans like the pros do.

    2. OB drive becomes 2 off the tee or drop it where it went out and youre hitting 3. The current rules (3 off the tee or hitting 4 from where it went out) are so god damn harsh for no good reason. If your 2nd shot from the fairway goes in the water hazard you don't have to drop one from the same spot hitting 4, you move up to the water/drop zone and hit 4 from there. This harsh penatly off the tee encourages people to take forever searching for their OB drive in hopes they can find it and maybe be able to punch out, but maybe if the penalty was just a stroke instead of stroke + distance people would be quicker to just let it go and quickly reload.

  28. Sometimes people are not good enough to play the course they are on. Most times, people simply lack etiquette to include how they park their carts, i.e not parking closer to the next tee, looking for balls to long or hitting multiple balls. Most people should head to the practice tee and stay there until they get a lesson from a professional before heading out.
