TaylorMade Burner vs. Cobra Amp Cell-S

I'm hoping I might get some opinions on which of these two drivers I have at my disposal are better to play with until I get a new one down the line.

I inherited a TaylorMade Burner from my grandfather back around 2009 (not sure when he got it). The shaft is 50g flex (it has a lot of flex, so it might even be a senior flex).

Ten years ago or so I bought the Cobra Amp Cell-S, which has a 70g stif flex shaft.

I'm 40yo but have a slow swing, normally driving only a little over 200 yards.

Basically my question is two parts:

First, which is a better driver head? I'm not sure if the age gap between the two means that maybe the Cobra is "better" than the Burner.

Secondly, considering I don't drive very far to begin with, should I be using the 50g flex Burner regardless?

I suppose if the answer to the first one is that the Burner is a better club head, I could always look into a better shaft. Of course, if I'm going to spend several hundred dollars on a new driver in a few months, I might not want that expense, but still an option.

Thanks to anyone who has any opinions!

Best answer to this is take both to the range and see which one gets you the most consistent results.

Just based on logic and raw numbers you gave, the lighter 50g club with a R shaft would make the most sense to keep. A heavier, stiffer shaft would require a swing speed of at least 95mph to “help” in any way. Those Burner clubs still hold up, too.

The TaylorMade would be the best. It is lighter and a bit more flexible. The amp with the heavier shaft I would use if you have problems controlling the TaylorMade. The heavier overall weight will slow down the swing if you get too loose.

Burner head far is more forgiving (still have my old one!), just take it to Golf Galaxy and replace the shaft with regular flex. Overflexing a senior flex shaft with a regular swing speed will have you shanking everything right because the clubface will be open at impact. Thats setting yourself up for failure and frustration.

I’ve gone back to that model of the Burner twice after switching to newer tech that I just couldn’t find consistency with. I love it, big sweet spot.

The Burner matches your swing speed way better than the S flex Cobra. Use the Burner and spend the $300 on lessons.

Go with the cobra. The TM face is for sure failing by now. Look on the toe of the face. All these ‘10 burners cave in there.
And the E9 face on the cobra, from 12 years ago, is what TM copied when they made twist face. TM is good but they are very cheaply built and they “borrow” all their technology. Virtually nothing they have is original. Thats ok. It’s just that this is an example of that.
