Tiger Woods won 4 STRAIGHT MAJORS with this driver?!

Tiger Woods is well known for the ‘Tiger Slam’ which he achieved in 2001 when he held all four major titles at the same time. It was an incredible achievement, one that has not been repeated since, and it was one that he completed using a Titleist 975D driver. This is undoubtedly one of the most iconic golf clubs ever made and we got hold of one from golfclubs4cash for under $50 or £40. The big question is… can it still perform and how does it stack up against the latest GT3 driver from Titleist? Joe Ferguson took it to Frilford Heath Golf Club to find out…

  1. Played the 975D then ‘upgraded’ to the 983k ‘hot face’ that was then declared illegal .. which when compared to the distances etc from the modern clubs is laughable!

  2. Joe Joe Joe le Pro, yes the 975D has a place in modern history but pales into insignificance compared with the Major slamming Persimmons from 1950-1999. You do the Major math Joseph 😮

  3. Can’t wait for more retro reviews! Get me some old Ping Zing 2 or ISI irons, wedges, and woods!

  4. Heads and shafts have clearly improved in over 20 years. Be interesting if you could put a modern shaft in old driver.

  5. Inch shorter, smash similar and loads of spin. Just goes to show, distance wise, nothing has changed. Forgiveness has improved but due to head size. I think a 7 year old Taylormade M2 is as good as anything

  6. Could you review retro clubs which could potentially still be put in the bag? I'm thinking a 1st Gen Callaway Steelhead 3 wood could still be used like a hybrid.

  7. I found a 975J .9.5° with an X100 steel shaft. I bought it for $5 for shits and giggles. Hit it, and it went straight. I game it time to time. The 13.5 fairway wood is money.

I’d like to see a Taylormade Supersteel driver.

  8. Nice review JoePro. Much better outside. Real world data. Only the elite could hit those drivers consistently. I have a 983k, nothing I've used has felt better. Current driver is an M6, very happy with it.

  9. I gamed the 975J which followed the D. Another great feeling driver from that period. Still have it in the shed, can't bear to part with it.

  10. Nice review bro, appreciate it. Your SS on the GT3 is faster (I’m only 108-110) than me yet I seem to have better carry (260+ yards). Could be the range balls you were using? Cheers mate
