  1. Yes – if you are playing a PGA/USGA competition. If you are playing social golf, then play preferred lies for any lie that is not perfect. I cannot understand why some people play social golf under the exact same rules as a Pro. They dont do that when playing football or any other sports, so why do they do that for golf. The game is much better when played 'sensibly' and when not imposing on yourself the same rules as a Pro – who plays on great courses with perfect fairways and raked bunkers etc etc.

  2. It would have also been useful to first define what an embedded ball is and then to also note that you get relief anywhere on the golf course other than a penalty area or sand trap.
