This one looks at a selection of matches from WWF / WWE & WCW that didn’t live up to the hype. Matches include Triple H vs Randy Orton, Shawn Michaels vs Mr. Perfect, Brock Lesnar vs Dean Ambrose, Bret Hart vs Sting and many more.

Suzuki, Okada, and Tanahashi were reportedly in the crowd for Shinsuke vs AJ, and they laughed at Shinsuke's heel turn.
Taker had a fair few flops in the 90s
Wolfpack sting was basically jobber sting
Scott Steiner really declined when he turned up his juice intake and stopped doing the awesome high impact moves that he did in WCW.
dx v bod.. never happened.
Nick Patrick: I was told not to fast count.
Hogan, proven habitual liar: Nobody told Nick not to fast count.
Honestly, Sting deserves some share of the blame for Starrcade. He was in the business for a decade at that point. He should’ve known to kick out if the ref wasn’t fast counting. And he also shouldn’t have let Hogan take the match the entire time, even if he had to go into business for himself.
One match that felt huge, but didn't feel like it met expectations for me was Triple H vs. Hollywood Hogan from Backlash 2002. Two huge names in the company going at it for Triple H's recently won Undisputed WWF Championship, just didn't feel like it was as great as it could've been once the final bell rang.
When you said Austin v TAKER, I thought, oh yeah the one where STONE COLD got a concussion at MSG, but no, buried alive match.
who’s Musawa? looks like King from Tekken tho
HHH vs. Randy was an easy one. It should’ve been no DQ pandemonium. Have Legacy interfere, and have the McMahons try to stop them and fail. That’s also when Batista returns for the match winning assist. Instead he came back the next night. Also, Starrcade 97 still makes my stomach hurt.
hogan and bischoff screwed the GOAT Sting out of the biggest match in pro wrestling history.
🎉
Matt Hardy vs Edge at Summerslam 2005 is right up there for me. The real life issues between the two created some huge expectations, but the match itself was nothing special before the lame referee stoppage finish – Edge took most of the offence, when people wanted to see him take a pasting. They eventually got it right at Unforgiven, but by that point it felt just a tad too late.
The opposite might be really interesting – matches that exceeded expectations. Finding the diamonds in the rough or being surprised by something you'd might otherwise pass over could make a good video.
I thought Nakamura vs Styles at WM had so much potential and I thought it was underwhelming. That match could’ve been so much better in my mind. I didn’t hate the match but expected a little more. This is a great list. I do agree with all these matches misfiring and a lot of them were very well done leading up to the match.
The only one I give a break to is the Orton vs Triple H. The life of that crowd was sucked out the room and the match had to close the show after the greatest match ever seen arguably.
2013 is crazy
10:21 He was dealing with what?
Hogan vs Warrior. Halloween Havoc 98.
I love how it showed CM Punk since all his matches are over hyped
Sting wasn’t tan, brother!
Bret Hart in Japan would have been ballistic, but I understand Bret wasn't into stiffy wrestling
Kim Justice channel is realy the bomb!
Totally agree, cool lad.💪
The brock and ambrose match was all on brock. He sabotaged it clear as day.
Goldberg-Lesnar looked nice on paper…but, two guys who are both notorious for being stiff, meatheads, was bound to have the exact issues they had…
LoL @ Bret Hart suffering from jet lag before his match against Tiger Mask II.
Good video overall, although I feel like you should have talked about each match a little more, or maybe I just can't get enough of your videos🤷 who knows?
Taker vs sting at mania 31
Steve was sick with flu during the buried alive match.
HONORABLE MENTION:
Monday Nitro 04/99. Randy Savage Vs. Big Poppa Pump Scott Steiner.
What COULD have been even an awesome PPV quaility match was completely ruined by nothing but constant Run-Ins and false finishes.
Shawn Michaels vs RVD in 02 is up there you have two of the best in ring performers ever but they put on a very mediocre match this should have been a wrestlemania caliber quality match and it was also a throw away on Raw. Shame.
usually the matches that aren’t built up like the big matches are the best ones
triple h vs randy orton should’ve been no DQ
I like how you pretend you're not Kim Justice.
Taker vs Lesnar. Wrestlemania 30
I was in attendance for the Triple H match, against Scott Steiner. It definitely didn't live up to the hype.
Thank you for having AJ styles VS Nakamura that match made me so upset
Till day day I will never agree with anyone that doesn’t think Aj styles vs Shinsuke N. At WM 34 wasn’t a good to great match. Maybe I went in with realistic expectations but I love the match till this day. If WM didn’t have that mediocre Roman vs Brock match this WM would have got more love in my opinion.
Daniel Bryan vs Sheamus was the first one I thought of, but tbh Sting vs Jeff Hardy in TNA was actually the most disappointing match ever. Both could barely be called matches.
Thinking of it distant third would be Kevin Owens vs Goldberg. I didn't expect much from Oldberg, but having him win the world title with a surprise spear was definitly not worthy of a PPV match and it messed up the feud between Owens and Jericho. Plus then Goldberg lost the title to Lessnar and Lessnar then barely defended the title forever.
3:18 The Undertaker vs Triple H end of an era match with Michaels as the referee should have been the last one those three were ever involved in.
0:12 CM poof ripping off Wanderlei Silva. He's so unoriginal. Literally everything cool He's done was bitten from someone actually cool.
The Fiend vs Seth one should have finished with Seth getting disgusted with himself about how far he was willing to go and quitting and giving the win to Wyatt. Then do the medics running in and panicing, just for the Fiend to claw himself up to his feet after a few minutes and start laughing, preferably with blood pouring out of his mask or something. Could have played into a great promo from Bray praising Seth for being honorable while the puppets called him weak etc.
Then rematch, Seth wins with a rollup, proving he doesn't have to become like the Fiend to beat him, he only needs 3 seconds.
I remember King of the Ring 2001 a triple threat match between Stone Cold vs Chris Jericho and Chris Benoit was pretty disappointing
Sting is the perfect image for this headline. He's every bit as overrated as cm punk
Instead of calling Ambrose the Lunatic Fringe, they should have just went with Alcohol Binge
I do like most Austin vs Taker matches in 98-99. That buried alive match was disastrous.
What Ill never get is,Vince says he wanted to go with this new generation concept. But he put Bob Backlund in the main event scene. Why didnt he put Savan😅
The fiend vs. seth rollins in 2013? Wasn't it in 2019?
The best thing to come out of the Nakamura heel turn was legit his heel theme. I know they tried to change it so people wouldn't sing along with it but they made such an underrated banger at that time.
