Took a nice look through my pre-season goals after a double-free 39 yesterday at a course I don’t play frequently & all I can say is hell yeah. Love to see hard work paying off
We need to make this a game or something. Where you get new challenges as your handicap progresses. Now just make cheap balls that pairs with a watch and I can trust my buddy when he said he broke 90, but never shot below an 115 with me.

That’s a lotta improvement!

Damn you and I are at almost the exact same level with a very similar list of accomplishments and goals. Feels like we should both have an eagle by now, doesn’t it?
Mr-JDogg
In my last two rounds I’ve made a Birdie in each round which is a big accomplishment for me. I would have never imagined I’d be getting somewhat consistent. I’m still hitting off whites but my drives are getting better so I’ll be moving to the blues soon.

I am with you OP.
Setting a goal, working towards it, and then achieving it is an amazing feeling.
I was a plus 20 to start the year too so I know how you feel! Honestly the hardest one was for me was no 3 putts. I am not sure why but it’s so damn hard not to 3 putt at least one hole. Only did it once this year. Hoping to make it a more regular occurrence.

How many rounds total? Breaking 40 on 9 14x but only breaking 80 once is brutal if you played the minimum 15 rounds needed to get these stats. But if its across, say, 100 rounds, its a different story.

Congrats! What are the key things you worked on to lower your HI so much? I’m down from a 25 to a 20.4, but plateauing now.

That’s great stuff man. I used a similar approach to get to a low handicap. Not only do you get better with good goal setting but it also makes golf so much more fun. I would set a FIR goal as well.
If you aren’t using an app yet, I highly recommend The Grint to track all kinds of stats.
BrettHullsBurner
You’ve dropped from a 20 to a 12 in 5 months?
BigD_PorkChop
I almost had a round with no 3 putts but I proceeded to 3 putt 18. SMH.
FragsFilms
In a year and 6 months of playing/training I’ve managed break 90/break 40 through 9 and I have a best round of 80, haven’t gotten the 3 birdies in a round yet though
doc_ocho
Nice goals.
One thing we do as amateur golfers is set our goals for GIR too high.
Is it ok to set a goal to break 70 percent once? Sure.
But note that the best players in the world don’t hit 3 out of 4 greens.
In fact, only 20 players on the Tour hit 70% – and that’s only if you round numbers 15 through 20 up!
You had a great year – keep it up and keep working on that short game.
SunnyMonkey17
Love the goals, but I would set the GIR expectation lower if you want to attain it and then increment up. 70% is scratch level, on good days. I’ve hit that number once in my last 20
20 handicap and shot in the 30s 14 times? Damn I’m a 8 index and only shot in the 30s like 10 times this year
heyitssal
Mine: Break 80, 55% GIR, no three putts, no topped/duffed shots, no lost balls.
Keeeeeeet22
Dude playing a round with no three putts would have believing I could be a half decent golfer. Keeps me from breaking 80 that’s for damn sure. One season I had putting down. I still find it hard to believe looking back on it. Of course when I was putting well my approach shots were about as bad as they could possibly be.
Joshthenosh77
I think 70% gir is a bit high
TheChubbyGolfer
0.3 handicap here and I’ll tell you that 70% greens is difficult AF. But good on you for having such a goal. Best way to get that one is to always aim for the center (if not 5 yards short of center) of the green EVERY SINGLE TIME.

Low Round: 85
Break 80: 1x
Am I missing something there?

My current goals list for the year. PR of 76 back in July
70% GIR is completely unrealistic. Your layers average less than that.
From 20 to 12 hcp in one season is pretty good!
