Oscar Robertson Schools Us On NBA History, Klan Threats & Russell Westbrook | ALL THE SMOKE
One of basketball’s greatest and most influential players EVER, Oscar Robertson, joins Matt and Stak for a rare interview on the latest episode of ALL THE SMOKE. The Hall of Famer reflects on his NBA lawsuit that led to the creation of free agency and changed the game forever. Plus, he explains what it was like playing in the same era as the legendary Wilt Chamberlain and Bill Russell.
‘The Big O’ also shares stories about being a prominent athlete during his time, from being threatened by the KKK to dealing with racism on the road. He speaks on what it was like almost being drafted into the army and his relationship with the great Muhammad Ali. Finally, Oscar reveals his thoughts on the current-day NBA, including his favorite players to watch and why he has so much love for Russell Westbrook.

My grandpa played pickup basketball with the Big O when he was at Cincinnati. Grandpa died in June. This was right on time for what would’ve been his Birthday. He talked about Oscar all the time with great pride and admiration.
The Big O! 🔥🔥🔥
39:25 “I like to watch curry and lebron alot” the fact he says curry immediately should tell alot of yall something 💯 Much respect to the big o ✊🏾 One of the pioneers of the game that survived in a period where alot of us black men cant even imagine 💯
It’s honorable that Stack got involved in the George Floyd situation but I hope that since some time has passed he can see how much of that was a political ploy more and did just as much damage as it did good. No hate to BLM but that shit was the biggest scam ever.
The Big O, was ahead of his time. He would have still been dominant in today's league
This man is 85 years old! 85!!
You guys need to get some more of these old school guys on. They may not be here much longer
I can listen to THE MAN talk hoops all day long. That’s a breathing, walking historian…obviously amazing that he’s still with us as an ambassador and be one of the remaining pillars of the pre-merger nba that’s still left. Honors to the icon!
At one point Oscar was gonna join the highly prestigious African Basketball Association but then he remembered that it does not exist
It’s hilarious how NO ONE here has spoken on how he literally carried his team until he got to MIL 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Big O will forever be a top 5 PG of all time——

Dope
Larry Bird once said if you are getting paid you have to play. when he retired, he was told by the Celtics not to quit for a few weeks because than he would get a signing bonus. But he refused to accept money he did not work for. Today's players would do good to follow his example. We don't buy tickets to watch players sit. If every player who was sitting out had to pay their game day pay to the people sitting in the audience. maybe they would think twice about resting for no reason. After all, if you are not playing you are just a member of the audience, and we don't get paid to sit so neither should you
WE AS A SOCIETY AND A RACE, FORGET ABOUT THE MEN AND WOMEN WHO BUILT OUR COUNTRY. THE BIG " O" SINCE HE WAS A PREP, REVOLUTIZIED SPORTS, BECAME AN ADVOCATE FOR THE PLAYERS IN THE NBA WITH HIS LEGAL ABILITY TO FIGHT FOR FREE AGENCY, MORE RESOURCES, THE NBA PENSION, WHICH NOW THIS CURRENT GENERATION BENEFITS FROM THE BIG O, BILL RUSSELL, AND OTHER MEN SACRIFICING THEIR CAREERS. The OG
Another great show 👏🏾. Legends make for the best interviews 🏀🎊
Great interview gents
No cap i thought the Big O was dead.
Y’all did it with this one! We need more legends like the big O before they gone.
I just can't believe the legend is 85 years old. I salute you Mr. Robertson. I see people who are in their 40s and they look so much older. It's crazy how generations are going backwards in every aspect of life.
Salute🍷
At 85, I love that his mind is still so very sharp. Huge blessing!
I have his basketball card. I love his game. One of the best players of all time.
This might be one of the most important interviews in basketball history
I don't think people realize how important a historical figure the Big O is. The man has done so much for the sport of basketball and in American history is general.
We need to enjoy him while we can because he's part of a dying breed. We already lost Jerry West.
A real G!!
If you’re a real basketball fan this is a must watch , much respect having the Big O on …we must keep the names of the OG pillars going !!!
Big O, has always him one of the Realest/ Greatest blackman Ever!
I appreciate this interview!!! OR & other Hall of Famers pave the way for players today. Love 🙌🏾🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Great interview! I would like to see more interviews with the guys that played in the 60s and 70s. They bring such a unique perspective and have so much wisdom.
Thank you guys for an Outstanding podcast with The Big O. He does look great for 85. I have watched a few of your videos, but this has got to be the best. Thank you again!
Thank y’all for this interview!👌🏾❤️
Aye bae bae
Should do a part 2!!! ASAP
Is he really 85? He looks in good shape!
Very cool. I bet the cutting room is littered with jewels we will never see, hear, or read, but I’m glad yall got to experience them.
What not – Oscar Robertson
"Why the hell you throw me the ball now for? You haven't thrown me the ball all year now all of a sudden, you can't get your shot and you're gonna throw me the ball?" Please take note of this, this is very important insight especially for the younger generation who idolize certain players and then say he has "no help" when all of a sudden in the playoffs, he can't get his shot off due to running into a defense that has the personnel to stop that predictable heliocentric style, and then that player starts throwing the ball to teammates to "make plays" when that player has been ball hogging all season long, and fans get in a uproar saying "he has no help" when those teammates were forced into a role of stand on the outside floor spacer ALL YEAR LONG.
What a LEGEND, on and off the court
Great interview, guys! These talks will help future generations a lot to get an insight into lifes of the older generations, who made everything possible, we have today. Only one note to Stephen Jackson: there are no different "human races". There is only one, the human race. Wish more people would understand that and use their words more wisely..
Keep on the great work, much love from Munich, Germany:)
US will always be native american land.
Another legendary episode! We owe a lot to this man. gg ATS
Why are all these young people more sensitive racism than someone like Big O? No one is being hung today. Big O got threats against his life he said “I didn’t think they would do it.” A fan call a player a Nigga online and they cry about it today.
You guys should focus on getting more OGs interviewed before they are gone and let the new generation learn how they grew the league to what it is today!
Oscar doesn't seem as hateful as he used to be. Good for him
Stak5 said they had the Matt Barnes 😂. Big O dropped gems 💎. There's no school in summer because of potato farm work was something to be studied. Yal always get the OGs in to tell their side of story and I absolutely appreciate hearing the history of what allows today's players to thrive.
At 52, I’m too young to have witnessed Oscar Robertson‘s career; however, my knowledge of him came from my father who grew up 😊 big fan.
