  1. The thing I will say, as a Ravens' fan who's watched the Roman OC era, is that Greg Roman is a fantastic run-game coordinator, a fantastic run play designer, not even as bad of a pass play designer as he's often blamed for, but he is not a good offensive coordinator. He's a smart man. I'm glad we had him for the time we did. He helped Lamar make the NFL transition, but I think by the time he left, Lamar and the offense as a whole had outgrown him.

He is deficient in too many of the gameday skills an offensive coordinator needs; I cannot overstate how many times we would end up in holes under Roman because either we'd take a pointless delay of game penalty, or the defense would be able to tee-off because of a short play clock and force a negative play because how he would call plays leaving the offense with barely enough time to actually get the snap off. In addition, he either did not bother to install, or he did install but was weirdly-reluctant to use any kind of hurry-up offense, and we'd often end losses where our offense would be driving and making positive plays but they'd just run out of time because there'd be too much time wasted calling plays at the end. As you noted, I think the problem is that he ultimately did not trust Lamar to make adjustments and calls at the line, and so Roman would make those adjustments himself or limit Lamar's latitude to make them himself, which just took unacceptably long. And his play calls were extremely predictable, and when they weren't, it was usually because they were bafflingly-inappropriate for the situation.

Monken is worlds better in those gameday elements over Roman, and it showed. I cannot express how much of a relief it was to see us get to the line on offense with more than fifteen seconds to get set and get the play off so often this year. Roman's a great guy for designing plays and putting together a playbook, but give me Monken any day of the week to actually coordinate an offense.

  2. The ravens need to fire harbs if they want any success in the post season. Ravens have underperformed every year since 2012 and that 1 run has carried him way longer than what’s reasonable

  3. Really excited to see rpo misdirection with henry and lamar with lamar having the ability to do play action off it or keep it. Gl stopping that.

  4. One thing I’ll say is that you put the Ravens rushing attack as an important factor for helping Lamar as a QB but skip over the fact that he’s led the team in rushing yards every year. Not to disrespect the RB room but he’s padded the team rushing numbers and efficiency significantly.

  5. Your shock at Lamar's prop lines tells me you haven't actually looked at his stats. Only last year did he get more than 3400 yards and most years, hasn't hit 3000 at all. 23.5 passing TDs is only 0.5 less than what he just got last year in his 2nd MVP season. And he's beaten that number 3/6 years, so it seems reasonable

These numbers aren't saying they don't think he can pass well. Just "these are the types of passing numbers he puts up in that offense". It makes perfect sense to me, I'm not touching those lines

  6. It's not just that we lost the game because of the drops, it's not just that there were 8 of them, it's that it was against the Steelers.

  7. Why the issue with the Lamar line from Underdog? It’s his season averages, even if you exclude the first half year.

  8. The o-line is m major question this year because it’s new guys learning a new system and all the talent means nothing if you can’t protect

  9. I think the AFC north comes down to divisional wins this season. The steelers are clearly the best at playing divisional opponents then the ravens then the browns and lastly the bengals. This div will be

    1. Steelers (4-2 vs AFCN)
    2. Ravens (3-3 vs AFCN)
    3. Bengals (2-4 vs AFCN)
    4. Browns (2-4 vs AFCN)

  10. The way Brett Kollmann is delicately talking about how bad Greg Roman was sounds exactly like a guy employed by the same team as Greg Roman lol

  11. The Ravens are always stressful. They have a historic tendency to have close games for no reason and throw away massive leads for fun.

  12. Ravens fans have been waiting for the eventual Zach Orr call up. Obviously he was electric in his one year as a starter, mainly on the back of his high IQ. Hes been a great presence as a coach, whether it was assistant to the head coach, LB coach, etc. Everyone talks highly of him. Love the guy as a fan of the game and of the team.

  13. You ALWAYS have to watch out for the Ravens UDFAs. They almost always have a few that make the team each year. Some notable ones: Justin Tucker, Zachary Orr, Gus Edwards, Patrick Mekari, and Patrick Ricard, Michael Pierce, and Anthony Levine Sr. (Who is already in a coaching role in the NFL, and I expect him to keep climbing the ranks). Its not normal to have that many extremely high level starters as UDFAs in recent years.

  14. 1. Bengals 13-4
    2. Steelers 12-5
    3. Ravens 12-5
    4. Browns 10-7
AFC North becomes first division to send all 4 teams to the playoffs.
