Is my mat too thin? Starting to get elbow pain; ground contact feels very hard/punishing

This is the mat I bought on Amazon: https://a.co/d/i4GdcLp

I don’t know if this is how all mats feel or what. But my right elbow is starting to hurt and I figure this mat must be too cheap, or it’s my swing.

What is the prognosis?

If you are asking this question I think you already know the answer.

I had the same problem, spend money on a mat. I bought a mat at carls and my elbow pain went away

Shouldn’t cheap out on a hitting mat, go with a tried and true company. Rather spend more money on a quality hitting mat vs. potential injury which could cost a lot more

Can’t really comment on your set up, but I will say I have stopped hitting off driving range mats all together due to medial epicondylitis (golfers elbow), which is basically a tendonitis on the inside of the elbow.

Since I’ve stopped doing that and modified my gym works out also to take pressure off the elbow it is slowly getting better (also doing a more PT type stuff around the injury to help recovery).

Turf shock and wrist / elbow / shoulder problems through harsh feed back from poor quality mats placed directly on concrete is a very real thing.

This is the one you want. https://a.co/d/8YLr7R8

Put that on top of your foam tile, but cut a rectangle out of your foam tile where you plan on hitting balls on the mat. It creates a bit of extra give so you don’t hurt yourself with a proper downward strike. At that point you’ve basically created a bigger and better holy grail mat.

If you’re getting elbow pain it appears that answers your question..get a better/thicker mat.

  7. I originally purchased a cheap Amazon mat and was having elbow pain. I didn’t want to spend a fortune on a new mat. Did a little research and decided on the monster mat from safe play golf. I’m very happy with my decision.

I found this inch thick softer white foam insulation sheet at Home Depot. Cut it to fit and construction glued it. Feels super soft.

I’ve heard great things about the Country Club Elite hitting mat.

I just realized I have the same problem. I usually hit too deep of a divot and my mat is less than what you have. My club bounces up and I top everything on the screen..

I know I have to get better and my swing sucks but still frustrating.

I got something better than that from Amazon and it still hurt. So I’d assume yes.
