Total beginner, own nothing but a spare driver and putter given to me by a friend. Just scored this bag and clubs for $12 at a thrift store. How did I do?

I dug through the pile of junky clubs and tried to pick a few irons and woods from brands that I recognized. I figured along with my driver and putter this would be fine to mess around with for a while until I get to know more.

Any tips for beginners would be appreciated, thanks!

i can authenticate they are indeed golf clubs.

It doesn’t matter what you start with, just that you’re enjoying getting out. Enjoy the club’s man!

You did great. My golf coach had a bag full of clubs from different sets. Scratch golfer. He said all that matters is that you like the particular club

That guy who said ignore the 7 wood? Ignore that guy.

Live and die by that steelhead 7 baby

Go to your local muni, hit the range, have some beers. Hit some twilight rounds with some friends. Once you feel comfortable with the motions, get some lessons.

Welcome to the jungle, baby. You’re gonna die!

Am I the only person on earth who looks at golf technology’s ‘progress’ and realizes that scores have stayed relatively constant for 100 years? Those are great clubs, enjoy the hell out of them.

What clubs you start with doesn’t matter at all. I’m playing with hand-me-downs from the 90’s and out-scoring many of my friends. Just get out there, enjoy the process, and try not to get frustrated lol. Golf is hard, but that’s the beauty of it.

Golf clubs are like Guitars. If you can play it. You can play it

The bag alone is worth $12. The 7 wood is solid. Even the 5 wood is serviceable .

Might sound odd but wait a few years to get new clubs. Once you hit these consistently then modern golf clubs are going to be a cake walk!

Once you’re hitting them a bit better you could really do with a club in between the wedge and 6 iron. It’s a pretty huge gap. Maybe get a 9 or get an 8 and pitching wedge.

So good, but clean em up so they start respecting themselves again

Great starter set tbh, all you really need til you can consistantly get it airborn. Just check on shafts and make sure theyre not ladies or senior flex

Those fairway woods (especially the 7) and that hogan wedge will be money.

At least $12 worth of aluminum here.

One would say Bryson could pick up any club and still be a scratch with it

Leave the tags on to maximize distance- best if you don’t hit when the cart girl is coming up the path.

  19. Guy who shows up the course with this bag scares the crap out of me and will take all the money.

Man honestly just go get a beginner set at a sports store. You really can’t play with your shortest iron being a 6. You’re gunna end up just hating the game. Go get a cheap set and start there.

I bought a burrito for $16 today. I think you did ok.

  23. You’re gonna like the way you look…I guarantee it!!!

Pretty soon, you’ll hit one dead solid out of the middle, and you will be hooked for life. You will never figure out how you did it, and that’s ok.

Nice work, they are definitely OK clubs, get out and golf! Most people who golf, worry too much about having the latest and expensive gear. Just get out there.
