I definately wouldnt pay to play Augusta….plenty better and cheaper courses here.
Golf club green fees don’t do anything to dispel the exclusivity of the game. If you live in an area where the fees are high are you going to look kindly upon those from outside paying to use your neighbourhood course that you are effectively barred from because of price?

When it comes to gimmes I always think of Shane Lowry in the Ryder Cup 2021 playing in a pairing against Bryson Dechambeau. Bryson looked for the gimme by placing his putter on the ground from the hole and was annoyed when it wasn't given. Lowry later responded in a media interview “For a start, DeChambeau’s putter is about four-feet long so it’s definitely not a gimmie”

I agree re the handicap. Matt when you are trying to improve what better measure than a handicap. Even if it's not the only one you use then it can certainly be one measure
I also disagree about only using competitive rounds. That means anyone not in a club can not have a handicap.
