  1. I am excited to know I won but unfortunately I'm not going to make it to the opener. Thank you guys for producing a great show. Go Gators!

  2. At the swamp against ranked teamsYou got to remember Sunbelt Billy is 2 and 10 against ranked teams he's 4 and 4 against ranked teams in the swamp.

  3. 46:50 (talking about how our RB room is fine without Etienne)
Big picture, I understand this take, and it's not that it's just flat-out wrong, it's that it doesn't acknowledge what we lost when Etienne left.

First off, people hate on Etienne, saying that he couldn't pass protect. News flash: an elite RB isn't an auxiliary offensive lineman. Yes, they need to be able to do it some, but people act like that's this crushing blow to Etienne's player rating, and that's just stupid. What Urban got right (and almost every coach since has gotten wrong) is: you don't force-fit your scheme down players' throats who aren't built for it, you adapt your scheme to fit the players you have. Did you see Urban trying to turn Chris Leak into Tim Tebow? No. Did Leak have to run some? Yes. But Urban (and Mullen) fit their scheme in 2006 to what Leak could do to maximize his skill set. Etienne doesn't block well? Have him hit the flat and dump off a few screen passes where he makes a guy miss and he's off to the races. Let's see how the pass rush feels about that.
Adapt your scheme to fit the players you have. Maximize their abilities.

What I feel we lost when Etienne left was burst. People talk about his top speed because he's slightly faster than Montrell, but that's not it. It's his ability to get to that top speed in like 3 yards. It's what Tre Wilson has as well, and it's what helps him create so much separation on short routes. No disrespect, but I watch the film and I don't see that burst from Montrell, and I don't see it from Baugh. They're one-cut-and-go runners. They both have really good vision, and that alone makes them better than most RBs. But go back and watch the Spring Game again: when either of them was forced to stop and change direction, how'd it turn out? Baugh made a couple good runs. The first one…yes, he made a cut, found a hole on the right, and ran through it for like a 24-yard gain. Go watch who was on defense for that series. Then go watch the entire second half. He tried those same cuts over and over and couldn't get away from the pursuit.
And I'm not knocking Baugh, I'm just trying to keep it real with the analysis.
The guys we have who do have burst? Jakobi has it, but his top end looks limited (in his film from Coahoma, so maybe he's faster now). Kahnen looks like he has it, but again – I don't know what his top speed is. Webb…I think he had it, but he looks heavier and less agile this year. I'm not seeing the same burst in the clips I've seen from camp.

And that burst? That's the difference between eluding a guy and not when the hole isn't where it's supposed to be. And that's a particular concern for a team whose O-line performance is a question mark. In the Spring Game, we ran the ball 36 times, and of those, only like 4 or 5 times did the hole open where it was supposed to (based on where the RB headed, initially). So yes…Baugh and Montrell are very skilled players. But are they skilled enough to get 7-8 yards on their own if the block isn't there? Something to watch as the season develops.
