Great video.Doesn’t the initial move of the down swing really start with the push off with the ‘ Right foot ‘ ?
Moe Norman had a massive trail foot drag like this.

Whenever I don't do this I hit it fat and sometimes cut a slab of turf underneath the ball. I find I do that later in the round when I'm getting tired and putting more effort/focus on swinging the arms
If you watch SS's swing, he is not rotating and sliding the hip. He is sliding and rotating the hip. Since, most of the teachers guide everyone to rotate the hip, getting into SS's swing is difficult. Eric tried but he ended up rotating and sliding.

Gary Player had a famous drill where he would start walking after the shot immediately after contact. I think maybe it was trying to help similarly.
Mo Norman too! Wide stance! Drove legs down the line keeping the club square for a long time. Thus a straight ball. But I don't recall his trail foot moving.
Doesn’t Scotty slide with the hips because he has a steep downswing?

I have to get the hips moving targetward at left arm parallel in the backswing to get this move, but when I do, its very nice
Ok but SS drags the trail foot forward and towards the REAR, not just sideways – Why is that?

How do you stop your upper body from moving towards the target with your hips at the same time? My entire body seems to shift towards the target, not just my hips (more sway than rotation).
