Retractable Garage Golf Simulator Project Details & Prices

I just finished my garage retractable golf simulator and I thought I’d share a breakdown of parts and costs to give back to the community that was so helpful to me. After getting estimates of about $30,000 – 40,000 from the professional companies, I embarked on figuring out how I can pull this together myself. Just so I don’t bury the lead, my solution totalled about $8,500 USD / $11,725 CAD.

I found the only way to do it “right” (which means right for my specific situation) was to do a lot of research and really think about what was important to me and get familiar with the vast array of products out there. This sub was super helpful, along with some great YouTube creators, and Golf Simulator forums online. There were a lot of opinions out there online and from different vendors, but at the end of the day, I found the best solution for my needs.

I set this up in my garage, which is heated with radiant floor heat and is comfortable in harsh Canadian winters. It’s a tandem two car garage which means I’d have to park one car behind the other. We don’t use the garage for cars though, it’s a recreation space with a gym, sauna, tool area, and now a golf sim. The total dimensions of the garage are 16’ x 40’. The golf area takes up about 12 x 26’ (when not golfing I can make it disappear completely and take up no space, or I can leave the hitting area out and only take up 10 x 12’). I’m a righty and I can hit dead center in this space, a lefty would need to hit off center because they’re closer to the wall.

Launch monitor
MLM2Pro ($700 USD / $950 CAD) + Callaway RPT balls ($70 USD / $100 CAD)
I went with the MLM2Pro because it’s accurate, I have the depth, and it’s very affordable. I plan to upgrade to the EyeXO2 in the future, but I need to validate I’m going to use this sim a lot to justify it. I bought a case of RPT balls because the ones that came with the unit got beat up pretty quick. Rapsodo doesn’t ship to Canada so it was a pain in the ass getting these.

Screen
Stealth Elite from Par2Pro ($1600 USD / $2250 CAD)
This seemed like the best motorized retractable screen option I could find. I got a custom size 116”.

Projector
BenQ TK710 STi ($1,850 USD / $2,500 CAD)
I really wanted 4K laser and BenQ just released this model. The lumens are adequate and it looks great even with a little ambient light during the day from the windows on the far end of the garage.
SkyRail Sliding Ceiling Projector Mount ($275 USD / $375 CAD)
This system allows me to move the projector forward to watch movies 16:9 or golf in an almost 1:1 screen ratio.

Hitting Mat
Sigpro Softy 4×10’ ($1,125 USD / $1,650 CAD)
I wanted something easy on the joints, punish fat shots, left & right hitting, easy to move out of the way. So far this mat has exceeded my expectations, I’m very happy with it.

Gaming PC
($2,150 USD / $2,900 CAD)
4K capability was important to me, so I did not go cheap here.
GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super
Intel Core i7-14700KF
Kingston Fury DDR5 5200 MHz 32 GB
SSD 1 TB

Turf
($110 USD, $150 CAD)
2 pieces of 6 x 8’ artificial turf from Costco for my landing area. This is just for aesthetics, and I had it on hand from another project, so I went cheap and didn’t get the Camry or MoneyPutt.

Putting
Wellputt Golf Putting Training Mat ($85 USD, $109 CAD)
Logitech C920x HD Pro Webcame ($95 USD / $125 CAD)

Side protection & netting
DWCN Sliding door curtains 120×108” x 2 ($250 USD, $350 CAD)
Ceiling protection netting ($250 USD, $350 CAD)

Software
GSPro annual subscription ($250 USD / $335 CAD)
Rapsodo annual subscription ($200 USD / $270 CAD) – first year is included in hardware price, but it’s not cheap so I included it here
Springbok GSPro / MLM2Pro connector and webcam putting (Free – but I’m going to make a donation to the guy since it works so well!)

Everything else I had on hand like TV, iPad, built in speakers and receiver so I didn’t include in the build price. I also didn’t include random cables, tax, or the cost of shipping which definitely added to the price but will vary for everyone.

Looks great! The eames chair ties it all together!

Looks awesome. Mind if i ask some questions? I also wanted to do something retractable.

    1. How hard was the installation of the motorized screen? If my diy skills are putting up curtains, is that about it?
    2. What are those side curtains hanging off of? Looks like the curtain rails. Does that come with the screen?
    3. What am i looking at in pic 11? Is it just your computer? So sick. Fyi, happy gilmore 2 coming out in the future!
    4. What am i looking at in pics 12-14?
    5. Can we see the rolling down in action?
    6. Everything is bolted on your garage door rail?

Not related, but did you do the wood panels in the garage? I like the look because it makes it more like a house/indoor space than a dingy garage (my garage anyways).
