Golf Tips

Hi all, broke ass bitch here. How can I find out which driver shaft to buy?

As the title says, I’m looking for a way to find what driver shaft I should buy. I want to get a shorter one for my SIM 2 driver. I have the same problem as some people describe, of getting good distance but missing fairways due to spread. I realize this may not help me and may actually make the problem worse, but I think it would be a fun/informative thing to try.

Only problem is that I am broke as hell. I’m planning to splurge a bit for my birthday for this new shaft but I don’t have the money to get fitted or to buy a bunch of shafts and try them out. I have a regular shaft on there now (bought second hand, so it’s a different shaft but I measured it to be 45”+) and hit a “stiff” shaft in my irons (OG Ping eye 2 zz lite shafts).

I have access to a top flight range stall at my local course I can get information from, but I don’t really know how to interpret that information, let alone have it inform my driver shaft purchase. Anyone have a recommendation or do it themselves?

Thanks!

Edit: You know, deep down I knew how this post was going to go but I held out hope that this subreddit would be useful at least once. Every experience here unfortunately goes exactly like this: https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZP81H1vV9/

Let’s see if I got this right. You’re broke as hell and can’t pay for a $100 fitting but want advice on which shaft is best for you without any information such as ball flight, spin rate, which direction you miss.

This shaft is a decent shaft and won’t break the bank unless you’re absolutely broke.

A shaft won’t make any noticeable difference for you. Path and face angle are the biggest contributions to dispersion issues.

doesnt matter what type of shaft just matters the size tbh. If your young stiff. If your old flex.

Shortening your driver shaft does have advantages but for your situation it’s like painting a car to fix the transmission.

Try shortening your back swing and slowing down your transition, shorter distance but more fairways.

But if you’re dead-set on a shorter shaft just cut it yourself. Razor blade off the grip and sawzall that thang.

There are chart the will convert distance to swing speed. It not perfect but better than nothing. I think it like 230 is the point between stiff and regular.

I just reshafted a driver and went regular flex. Picked it up today and feels like a toy, kinda regret it but curious to see how it hits

Find a golf galaxy near you. Going and talk with them and sign up for a free TaylorMade fitting. They don’t pressure you into buying. And if they do, tell them you’re still deciding and will come back when you’ve made a decision.

Buy 10 drivers with different shafts and when you choose one, throw the other 9 away. You didn’t get broke by saving money!
