One theory why golf might be more clustered n the midwest is that it is an older part of the nation. Chicago, Cleveland, Cincy were historic centers of wealth; and 100 plus years ago golf was the social activity for the wealthy.
Even though they take up so much space and require a lot of resources to maintain them I like them in NYC because they add a lot of green space and merge into park space. 😅
