Welsh Fire Women will take on Southern Brave Women in match number 17 of the ongoing Women’s Hundred competition at the Sophia Gardens in Cardiff on Monday (August 5).
Tammy Beaumont-led Welsh Fire are leading the points table with three wins and a defeat from their four games. On the other hand, Georgia Adams-led Southern Brave Women are languishing at the bottom of the table with three defeats and a tie from their four games.
The Southern Brave Women, despite the return of their star overseas signing Smriti Mandhana, failed to put up a fight in their last game. They suffered a 16-run defeat against Birmingham Phoenix.
Bowling first, they conceded 137/7 from 100 balls. Amy Jones was the star with the bat with a knock of 51 off 36. Emily Arlott played a cameo towards the end, scoring 22 off 12 to get the team close to 140.
Tilly Corteen-Coleman picked up two wickets, while Lauren Cheatle, Chloe Tryon, Lauren Bell, Georgia Adams, and Freya Kemp all picked up a wicket each.
In reply, Danielle Wyatt led the way with a blistering knock of 43 off 33. Mandhana, playing her first match of this year’s tournament, made 15 off 8.
Maia Bouchier was out for a silver duck, while skipper Georgia Adams made just two runs off three deliveries before being dismissed by Ellyse Perry. Freya Kemp and Chloe Tryon looked to steady the ship with knocks of 23 and 13 respectively.
However, the Brave Women were eventually bowled out for 121 with three balls to spare and registered their third loss in the tournament.
On the other hand, Welsh Fire Women are coming into this game after a convincing six-wicket win over Trent Rockets Women.
Bowling first, thanks to Jess Jonassen’s 2/29 from her set of 20 balls, Welsh Fire Women restricted Trent Rockets Women to 130/5 from 100 balls.
Apart from Jonassen, Freya Davies, Georgia Davis, and Beth Langston picked up one wicket apiece.
In reply, Sarah Bryce starred with the bat, remaining unbeaten on 51 off 39. Hayley Matthews chipped in with a quick-fire knock of 20 off 14. Jonassen made 26 off 22, while Georgia Elwiss remained unbeaten on 18 off 15 to steer the Welsh Fire Women over the line with two balls to spare.
