Let’s get startedโ€ฆ

The history of the Augusta National Tournament
The most iconic golf tournament in the world occurs at the Augusta National golf club at Augusta, Georgia. Also referred to as to as Augusta or the National.

Augusta was officially opened in the year 1933, and in the subsequent year it hosted the first-ever โ€œAugusta National Invitational” tournament.
It was soon rebranded as “The Masters” and has ever since remained so. The Masters’ tournament is scheduled for the second weekend of April every year. And this tournament is known as it has its own set of traditions, magnificence, and rules.

Everything about Augusta is unique. From Magnolia Lane to the dubbed โ€œAmen cornerโ€. If you are new to the Masters you might be a bit puzzled. But were Augusta national’s holes 11th, 12th, and 13th come together is called Amen Corner.

There is a very unique story behind the name “Amen Corner” as written by Herbert Warren Wind, a sport illustrated writer. He described how Arnold Palmer phenomenally played those holes back in 1958. Apparently, the term Amen Corner was inspired by a jazz record titled “Shouting in Amen Corner.”

  1. I have to admit I'm not a DJ fan anyway, but I do get irritated by the "record 20 under" thing! That score was when the tournament was played in November, making the course a much easier proposition than playing in April when the greens are much faster.

  2. the course is only open for play six weeks a year … they then tear up the greens and start getting ready for the next year's tournament … Augusta National is a resort, with cabins for members to stay in … it is a "resort course" … everything is mowed perfectly, making it hard to lose your ball … it was designed so that even the average golfer could break 90

  3. I find it a bit odd that everyone ignores the very obvious history of "The Masters" being rooted in slavery.

  4. Here's a few other things to keep in mind: Augusta National would not allow a Black golfer to play the Masters until 1975 (Lee Elder). It wouldn't allow Black members until 1990. It wouldn't allow women members until 2012 when it welcomed a war criminal named Condolezza Rice. Augusta National is a white supremacist hotbed of racism and elitism. It should never be allowed to cleanse itself of that human stain.

  5. The Masters is NOT scheduled for the 2nd weekend of April every year, it is scheduled for the first full week of April in the year. The earliest possible being April 2-8th if April 1st is a Sunday and the latest being April 8-14 if April 1st is a Monday. In addition, a member can only have 3 guests on property at any one time, thus creating a foursome including the Member, not 4 as you said in the video.

  6. I grew up literally on the fairways of golf courses in the Palm Springs/Palm Desert area and went to high school in Pebble Beach. I know golf courses. I know the most beautiful golf courses anywhere!
However, when my wife and I attended the Masters about 8 years ago, after entering the grounds at Agusta National on a Practice Day at about 8:30am I almost dropped to my knees at my first sight of the course. It's majesty and magnificence is simply indescribable, for me at least.
With every angle, view, fairway knoll, creek, green, incredible change in elevation……everything, it just exceeded all expectation and fantasy. It was almost a religious experience.
Some might think this is hyperbole, but I'm dead serious. It's crazy beautiful.

  7. Well, about a minute in. Why did you put PGA behind Masters Tournament? Not part of the PGA. Masters is the 1st full week in April, not 2nd week in April. If April 1st is Monday, then that's the start of the practice rounds followed by the tournament starting Thursday the 4th.

  8. I'm going to guess at Scottie Scheffler winning the 2022 masters. Pretty easy guess seem I'm commenting in 2023! LOL

  9. In 2022 on Saturday I had bad gas and was passing gas and was asked to stop, but I could not stop and did not and kept passing gas and did not care.

  10. If you're a member of Augusta, don't expect to play any golf from April to October. The course is closed during those months. Primarily, the heat is bad for the course. Also, that's when any improvements Augusta deems necessary are made. Many of the members are rich people who live all around the country. It's more prestige to be a member than to actually play golf there.

  11. when Bobby Jones won THE OPEN at royal liverpool , he noticed all the members wore red jackets . that is where he got the idea of the green jacket

  12. I'm the real editor of this video…. Now watching again and thinking the visuals synchronizing with audio is owesome.
    Proud of myself. ๐Ÿ˜‚
