John Middlekauff opens the 3 & Out mailbag segment discussing how toxic locker room players affect teams, such as DeSean Jackson’s time on the Philadelphia Eagles. Could San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk’s contract situation be a problem for the team’s locker room? Plus, John dives into why hockey is not as popular of a sport as football or basketball in the US. John then shifts gears to discuss whether the NFC North has the potential to become one of the greatest divisions in NFL history. He also offers his insights on how the Seattle Seahawks can be fixed to compete in the NFC West. Additionally, John evaluates the impact of Will Levis as the 16th best quarterback and whether the Tennessee Titans can make a significant impact this year. John also provides an update on how the New Orleans Saints view rookie quarterback Spencer Rattler and ponders whether Steve Young could have secured more Super Bowls with the San Francisco 49ers had he started earlier in his career.

DJ is the soul of the team. We LOVE him in Chi-Town
The front office is poisoning the 49ers locker room by letting the issue fester.
Go Panthers!! Florida Panthers!
Steelers, Ravens and Browns just all made the playoffs and Bengals had 9 wins i believe. Also Giants, Eagles and Cowboys all mad the playoffs the previous year
Before the season starts it's impossible to guess more than a few teams in each conference who'll make the playoffs. While it might look like all 4 NFC north teams are primed to make it, the odds are incredibly low. Just look at the NFC north last season, the Vikings were supposed to be the top dogs coming off a 13 win season being challenged by the Lions, the Bears were supposed to the scrappy playoff team and Green Bay was supposed to be the bottom feeder with 6-7 wins.
Who'd have guessed the Bengals would miss the playoffs and the Texans would be in the divisional round?!
You really missing out Pickle ball and my wife, Mariege
Desean Jackson most famous for fumbling the ball before getting in the end zone 😂😂😂
Agree about hockey. The in-person experience is amazing – I’m in Nashville and the Preds games are incredible. But the coverage on TV absolutely sucks. Kids don’t play it much as a kid and it isn’t covered well on TV.
How could Trent cutting in line not affect their locker room? The curse of more is hitting SF in the backlash of lost deep playoff games
45 year old here…been a 49ers fan from day one…the late 80’s 49ers we’re some of the best teams in NFL history. They were on their way to winning a 3rd straight Super Bowl until that Marshall (from the Giants) hit on Montana. But I can say confidently that Steve would definitely have won 1 more Super Bowl, maybe 2 (depending on what year he would have taken over). He needed at least 1 full season, maybe 1.5, worth of games to get ready. He was naturally a great scrambler, very shifty, and had a strong arm, but he needed to develop his decision making, timing, and accuracy. And those are absolute keys in the Walsh/Seifert “West Coast Offense”. Unfortunately for Steve, his ascension coincided with the Cowboy’s dynasty. If Dallas would have continued to be mediocre, he wins 2 more and the Packers with Favre pick up 1 more. Those 5 seasons from 1992-93 to 1996-97, the NFC Championship games were the Super Bowl, as the AFC had no shot and everyone knew it!
DJ Moore most underrated WR easily. Not even a Bear or Panther fan either
It’s too difficult to follow the puck.
DJ Moore over Aiyuk and it’s not even an argument. Anybody saying otherwise has not watched DJ Moore play. Most underrated receiver in the league.
Steve Young was a pretty bad postseason QB outside of 1994. In all his other playoff games combined he threw 11 TDs and 13 INTs with a 78 passer rating and a losing record (5-6).
Has anyone ever told you, your videos end somewhat abru-
Purdy sucks anyways there seasons a wash
John you gotta try pickleball. I was anti pickleball up till last week when I finally played it because it was between that and soccer and I had a ton of fun and just bought my first paddle
I like hockey but the season runs the same time as the nba and i just like basketball more
I don’t understand the locker room cancer headline?
You’re making a big deal of Caleb Williams. 🤣 come on JM you’re smarter than that. He’s gonna be worse than Bryce young.
What about the packers 3 qbs in a row? They seem to move along just fine.
These Seahawks fans that complain about Geno not being good enough dont know ball. Look at his stats, even last year when he apparently "sucked". The stats dont lie, and they tell you hes a top half of the league QB. The team will be fine until we find our next QB. Maybe they wont be great this year with all the new coaching staff, or maybe they will be a great team, no one knows. The future is bright in Seattle, though.
As a Seahawk fan, I'm getting tired of the stupid Geno hate and the idiotic take that we need to get a high pick and take a QB. Given the history, far more bust than succeed. Geno isn't the problem and never was. Our defense has been trash for at least 6 years. Our Oline play has been inconsistent forever and Pete's OC hires have fallen short since Bevell. We need to see how the Grubb hire works out. Also, the Huff hire at OL coach is important and see how the young guys up front gel and develop. Give Geno time and he has top 3-4 arm talent. Also, taking our defense from bottom of the league even to middle + is huge. But hey, let's all pretend there is only one player on the field and no coaching, smh.
If the Commanders beat the Browns in 2022. The NFC Wast would have had all 4 teams make the playoffs
The one thing the NHL has over NBA and NFL is the players for the most part aren’t divas and the contracts are not able to be broken so there’s no renegotiating after one good year.
Tennis I’ve played my whole life and pickleball I’ve picked up it’s amazing. 1 on 1 it’s a great workout and not for seniors
Hate to be that guy, but why is he coming after Aiyuk so bad with this take? I didnt hear the same argument about Deebo before this, Bosa last year, or even Williams this year. But aiyuk is the bad guy and locker room cancer? Not Bosa who cost the 49ers a SB last year with his holdout?
John you’ve got some fans that ask good questions, always enjoy hearing your take.
Commanders 2022 should’ve made it, they choked at the end losing all of their important games, if not all of nfc east makes it
Im so sick about hearing endless videos about this dude and his contract….They gonna give Aiyuk $30 million a year and inside 2 years of him getting paid all that money, the 49ers will realize how stupid they were and he wasnt worth it and they will be trading him and that crazy contract off to yet another dumb team for a 5th round pick.
The 49ers are going to be in salary cap purgatory by this time next year with some of the incredibly stupid contracts they have signed these players to and they will have no choice but to jettison most of them, especially after Brock Purdy agent go after a $40 – $45 million a year contract for 6 years. Let's be honest, the 49ers havent won a Superbowl in 30 years with all the talent they have had and that Superbowl window with Kyle Shannahan is closed after the loss last year.
