2024 Taylormade Mini Driver vs Qi10 3 Wood! Which one do you need?

Do you have problems off the tee?

Are you in need of a Mini Driver or is a 3 wood going to get the job done?

What loft should you play if you choose to get either of these golf clubs?

This #tourtrucktuesday I deep dive into the main difference between the Mini Driver and the 3 wood. The player profile who matches each club and how you could possibly benefit from one model over the other.

In addition I go through some of my own personal experiences with both of these clubs throughout the golf season and why I am choosing one over the other for my own game.

  1. Recently purchased the Mini Driver possibly the best club I’ve ever owned, I use it predominantly off the tee, with a high tee phenomenal club so easy to hit and forgiving, but I do use it for second shots to par 5’s it reaches in 2 as well

  2. Isn’t the mini driver a normal driver from 20 years ago before all the manufacturers increased the size of the driver up to 460 cc?

  3. I feel like this is actually a great club for tee shots into the wind. Tee it low, play it like a fairway wood and it’ll beat a long-iron off the tee all day.

  4. I’ve been debating on a 11.5 degree Mini, 16.5 fairway and 20 degree hybrid set up for months. Struggle with consistency with driver but just not sure…

  5. Most people don't need a 3 wood for either one of two reasons: 1.) they don't have the speed and/or the skill to hit if off the turf 2.) If you are a better amateur and courses are just not long enough to need it. I personally carry a driving iron as a secondary tee club and a 5 wood turned down to 17* which I play as my fairway wood for long par 5's where I need a 260 yard carry. I have a friend that uses a mini driver but he is very steep and can't hit a full length driver.

  6. Bought like the last 3 versions of this TM Mini Driver and sold them each after about a month in my bag. I'm like why not use my driver. To me it's a teaser club TM designed for folks to do what I do. Funny thing is after watching your video I feel like buying another one!! And I've done the same with the TW MG wedge series……Go figure…………….Quick question here…I started playing golf on Camp Pendleton in 1990 but have you ever played that course? The Medal of Honor Course on Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton. Would love to challenge you in a game if I commit to going out to the greater San Diego area. Retired Marine here loving the game…. Cheers Trottie. Neal

  7. I've toyed with getting a Mini Driver for longer courses but a 4 wood off the deck is easier to hit than a large headed mini so it's a trade off. Do I want a 2 wood ish club for secondary t options or just play a easier to hit fairway wood. I think people like myself who struggle with 3 wood, sometimes look at the Mini as a fall back but if we struggle off the deck why not just get a little more loft and do a 4 wood? More versatile and can hit it higher. If you have a large gap between 3/4 and Driver then maybe Driver, Mini, 5 wood combo is an option. I like these but they just seem limited.

  8. I currently regularly golf 3 courses, 2 public courses, and a club course my buddy's a member at. The closer, cheaper public course that's the course I'll play on a whim like "I got done with work early and have the whole afternoon" is neighboring the airport here in Madison, WI; and such can have some wicked winds, really around 3/4 of it, (only heavy tree coverage for wind is on the southeast side of the course, airport neighbors to the north so that area is all wide open and flat) and the weaker lofted BRNR put half a degree strong to 13* has been a life saver for me there. It's helped me get to breaking 80 regularly and chasing sub par scores on good days at 'Bridge's Golf Course'.

  9. I get far more value from mini driver over 3 wood, far more forgiving and a perfect second serve club, then have 5W for off deck

  10. Good one Trottie 👍👍 I got my mini driver because I struggle with a left shot and there is ob left 17 out of 18 holes at my home course. Instantly more in control before lowered to 9.5 degree – agree it’s easy to hit straight and can still draw it when I want, gonna test moving the weights tonight especially at this time of year on the dry heathland I’m happy enough with a low runner. So far not seeing any significant yardage loss , presumably because I’m hitting the middle more. Just love this club

  11. I’m looking to get fitted for a new set but I was wondering if you would recommend going to golf galaxy or the pga super store for the fitting. Who would have the best people and wide variety of selection

  12. Do you have a 3 wood but basically just hit it off the tee because you can't hit it worth a damn off the ground? The mini driver is the perfect replacement. I love the mini but don't know what I'd take out as I have long since gotten rid of my 3 wood and just go driver, 5wood hybrid.

  13. Great video made me laugh this morning ! I have dialled in my mizuno stz 5 wood at 16 degrees with a 3 gram lead weight forward , club lies flat at address , it's now getting me 245 yards carry !! And rolling out well . Just ordered a aerojet ls 3 wood hoping it will be further as I can only hit driver 250/260 yards !!! Fairway Woods working much better for me than any driver I've tested !!

  14. I don’t really see the point in the mini driver for the majority of golfers, although I say that as someone who has never hit one. If you are a top player then you’ll get away with a low loft fairway wood off the deck, but I need more loft. Off the tee I’d prefer a larger head which has, as the big selling point of the Qi10 driver, more forgiveness.
