Thoughts on first set?

Got this set and a bag for $80 on marketplace. Was reading some other posts and realized I should have done some more research lol. How hard will these be to learn on? Any thoughts? I’ve played a few games with them so far but still learning my swing and getting consistent contact with the ball.

Could be worse. Those irons don’t look like a true player’s cavity back. They won’t be the most forgiving, but not the worst.

The driver looks pretty user friendly. What flex shaft does it have?

Never hurts to try a blade putter first.

I remember using that driver in the video game when I was a kid. Such a sick driver.

Should be ok to play. Be careful about getting club envy. I started with 2nd hand clubs. Moved up to a cheap
Box set. Started getting club envy when I played with people who had shiny brand name clubs. Spent $1500 on clubs out of envy but didn’t improve my game at all.

  4. If they make the ball go forward in the air, then it qualifies as a good first set.

It will get you on the course and let you know if you want to invest in the sport or not. That’s all you can ask from them.

HG’s were popular custom irons back in the 80’s & 90’s. They’re not going to be as forgiving as more modern game improvement irons, but here’s a perspective to consider. An iron like this will give you better feedback than more forgiving irons, so in essence, they’re going to force you become a better player quicker because the sweet spot is smaller and less forgiving than off-center hits. But also remember, that there’s only so much you can move the weight around on a golf club head, so more modern irons aren’t light years away from the irons you purchased.
