  1. Great comment s gentlemen, no holds barred. Are ITV just simply a PR production for racing , similar here in Ireland with RTE

  2. Look, its great that Itv are doing this, fair play to them but it was boring.Too much about the 'top people' what about the people at the bottom, stable workers, farriers, stuggling trainers and jockeys they have the most interesting stories to tell who gives a fck about Nicholls etc. You are right about talking heads, dont want to hear from the usual faces we want proper storys.

  3. A problem with racing is that it struggles to put across what the point of it actually is. With Football it's to win promotion, a cup or a league, or survive relegation. With F1 it's to win the title or races or pole positions. But what is horse racing for? Why does a race matter? When I speak to people who don't know the sport they just think all races are the same. Just gambling events in isolation. When I explain the split between the Flat and the Jumps, and the differing classes of race, the major races through the year, the key festivals, the breeding, etc, they perk up and start looking at the sport as having purpose and structure, meaning. Racing needs to ensure this is clearer imo.
I got into racing as I read a dozen or so Dick Francis novels and found the racing World fascinating. I then started viewing C4 racing. I didn't need someone to point out the basics here. It was the passion, the unapologetic nature of the sport, the rich heritage and tradition of it that gave me the enthusiasm to find out more. This doc really needs to appeal on a subliminal visceral level to viewers. So I'm not sure it needs to explain the basics necessarily. It just needs to be proud and unapologetic. Every episode of ITV is laced with hints of shame. Which is kind of imo where racing coverage has gone wrong. It is projecting itself by what is says and clearly doesn't avoids saying in a way that suggests it is ashamed of itself. It has appeased and given credibility to the once considered nutcases.
And I'm perhaps likely in the minority on this but I really couldn't give a monkeys for Bryony Frost. Rachel Blackmore is twice the jockey and twice the positive female representative for racing. She doesn't use her sex or hide behind it, she just wants to be seen as a jockey….and racing loves her for that.

  4. I liked it from a racing fan's perspective, but agreed with the comments here. Amazingly, racing continues to hold punters in contempt, pretending that betting on racing doesn't exist when it is the main thing that keeps the sport going.

  5. Full Gallop one fault is that Big Ed Chamberlin is in it . A former Football journalist with no real background in racing.
