[Music] trun hosting the final men’s major of the year next week Brian Haron goes back as the defending champion and a reminder that live from the open starts Monday on Golf Channel Todd Lewis has an opening report Open championship week officially doesn’t get under way until Monday but for many players in the field they started their final preparations today Sunday a great chance to get a lot of homework in learn the golf course a bit more and then throttle back back from the energy perspective heading into the first round on Thursday now one of the players on the course today Tiger Woods who flew to Royal trun from his home in South Florida and then came to the course for a 2m practice route besides taking notes Woods was also trying to shake off a bit of jet lag tiger is a three-time winner of the open but has only played this Championship twice at Royal TR his best finish here a tie for ninth in 2004 also out today world number one Scotty Sheffer who played at 18 hole practice round alongside his good friend Sam Burns Sheffer has a solid open record in three starts all top 25 finishes has best a tie for eighth back in 2021 on Monday Keegan Bradley was named us Ridder Cup captain for 2025 after spinning three days in New York for the announcement Bradley made his way to Royal trun on Sunday where he arrives energized to try and prove he belongs on the team as a playing Captain well I was in New York for 3 days but other than that it’s been busy business as usual for me it’s been a nice sort of distraction honestly I’m constantly worried about how how I’m doing my play and what I’m working on and I’ve been able to sort of leave that at the course for the first time in my life so I don’t know maybe it’ll be a blessing in disguise yeah leading my me to my next question has this been inspiring for you personally as you Tee It Up here this week it really has I mean I have an opportunity to do something that no one’s done since Arnold Palmer in 1962 and that’s be a playing Captain it be very difficult but um what an opportunity I mean I I can’t think of many people that have ever had this opportunity in the history of the game this area of Scotland has received quite a bit of rain the last month meaning Royal trun is green and a bit receptive for Link’s course but that also means the vegetation is healthy miss the Fairway and balls could tumble into knee high rough that forces a player just to wedge out early reviews from players have Royal trun as a fair yet challenging major championship test you almost have three different golf courses in one you know you get the first six seven holes where um some guys might take driver and challenge it you know the bigger hitters might try to knock him up there on the green um you know you get your looks you’re going straight down wind uh and the prevailing wind um and then really once you get to 10 through 14 you’re back in the gorse there’s really not many bunkers uh you really have to drive it straight there’s a big penalty for missing Fairways and then uh the last you know five six holes coming in are are very long and back into the wind and um fairly fairly wide off the tea but um like I said it’s just three different golf courses you know you’re downwind starting off your round with three par fours that are under 400 yards where you’re hitting iron wedge um and then there’s SS we coming back in you’re hting driver five iron so it’s uh it’s one of my favorites I’ve ever played it’s a really special Golf Course um you know we yesterday was our first day playing here and it’s it’s a it’s phenomenal it’s a it’s like I said it’s three different golf courses in one seems like the front nine is more getable than the back nine uh the back nine I think it uh demands some good t- shots especially around the middle of the golf course but if uh if the conditions are good I think you’ll see a bunch of birdies this week so you see you see this as possibly a scorable major championship yeah it all depends on the weather uh like it does every year but if we get good weather I think uh I think the scores can be low how would you describe the rough uh I think it gets worse as you get a little further away which is good um if you’re just a couple steps off it’s manageable you should be able to advance it but there’s some gors around here and there’s some some long weed areas and um you know those areas are going to be particularly difficult yeah I think it’s a good course um bunkers this year iel like they raak them a little bit differently than last year which uh last year I felt like they were very flat kind of going into the faces of the bunkers and this year there’s a little bit more slope um kind of in the sand and so I think you’ll get a lot more variety of shots and you know you’ll see guys trying to play from lips whereas last year year it was almost a guarantee I think if you hit in the bunker you’re basically going to be going out sideways and so this year I think leaving a bit more opportunity for guys to play shots especially around the greens um and I think was a good change what are the challenges here I mean the bunker still I mean a lot of them or not a lot of them some of them the ball will even come in the other side then you’ll be stuck on the down slope and I mean there’s still a significant penalty especially off the te I mean if you hit in a bunker off the te you’re basically just going to be chipping it down the Fairway probably no more than 30 40 yards and um so avoiding those bunkers off the tea keeping it in play and I feel like this golf course does get really challenging after you get past probably a whole seven you turn and come back into the wind and um you know it’s it’s I think that stretch of 9 through 15 is is uh pretty pretty tough weather is often a major factor at this major championship and this year is no different how about this for an opening round forecast rain and wind gusts of 30 to 35 miles per hour but of course this is Scotland and that forecast could change one thing is for certain this is the final major championship of 2024 and for those who miss out they have to wait a long 9 months for the next opportunity at Augusta National
