I have good news and I have great news the good news is you can reduce your index from 20 down to 10 relatively simply and the great news is I’m going to show you how to do that by looking beyond the numbers what goes on behind the numbers that you see online about what makes a 10 handicap better than a 20 handicap something I want to impress on you is that if you look up the information you’ll find a 10 handicap is hitting the ball 230 on average of the te while a 20 handicap is about 210 to 215 of the T that’s a 15 to 20 yard Gap But please understand this is an average a 10 handicap hitting at 230 on average there’s going to be 20 to 30% of people hitting at 210 and 20 to 30% of people here at 250 so it’s an average with this very wide range so we’re not going to chase 20 yards more of the te we’re going to use a 210 yard shot off the te here which is plentiful to get yourself to a 10 handicap index knowing your shot shape is vitally important on the te we don’t want to get into big trouble we only have 210 yards off the te and we don’t want to put that 210 yards into an a Very handicapped position to get to a 10 handicap we have to have a playable neck shot now we have a pretty wide hole here and most people in the 20 handicap range are hitting feds and mostly slices so let’s not try to fight that let’s Embrace that while we play Golf the first thing we want to do is set up field goals so field goal is an area you want your ball to be to leave you another shot that’s unhindered my field goal is very wide here from the left edge of the Fairway all the way to beyond the right Edge because there’s so much space on the right now I want to aim for my shot shape my slicer to land in my field goal range so I have to pick something to aim at in the distance we’re going to aim at that green side bunker there and then it’s going to start on that line and then slice her all the way to the right hand side of the Fairway giving us a NE shot and we can use this the whole way around I’ll show you on every shot so we actually set up toward that knowing that our ball is going to come left to right now for me that’s just a slight fader I’ll try hit bigger faders as we play stinky winkies if you add 20 yards to your t-shot from 210 to 230 you’re going to gain 0.1 Strokes when you hit that club 14 times around on the nonpar three holes you gain 1.4 Strokes on the whole round you can actually gain 1.5 Strokes by just not going in just one of the hazards that you normally go in you save 1.5 Strokes so I’m not saying don’t add yards but do that at the range with your coach he’s going to teach you how to do that without doing speed training or trying to hit the ball too hard on the course embrace the shot shape we need to embrace the shot shape because we need to aim for that shot shape to put the ball in a good finishing position and that’s the approach game here we have a GPS device this is the most valuable thing you can have for Club selection if you are trying to get from a 20 to a 10 because we just need to get it into a distance range long and short and then move our field goals into a acceptable landing area if you get this ball in acceptable landing area you’re going to leave yourself better chips and how we do that is we set up a field goal one field goal on the left edge of the right bunker one field goal on the right edge of the left bunker we need to hit our shot shape into that landing area we have to aim potentially outside of that landing area for the anticipated shot shape if you have a two-way Miss and you don’t know which way the ball’s going to go you need to see a Pro ASAP but most people in this handicap range of 20 are generally feds or slicers of the golf ball so we’re going to play the feder so we we really want to aim more left edge of the green here that’s how we do it you have to aim for the shot shape to land inside your field goal area don’t aim for Phantom shots dead straight and on putts I notice a 20 handicapper guaranteed is just three putting way too much four to five times round that’s a score killer if you can remove these four5 three puts you’re absolutely money and the number one reason I see people in the 20 handicap area three putting a lot is because they do not take into consideration the slope from above the hole downhill they leave it 8 9 10 ft past the hole then get freaked by the speed and leave it a foot short on the return putt sometimes four putting when they leave it 2T short really freaked out when you have a putt notice if you’re the uphill or if you’re downhill if you’re downhill imagine a whole short of the hole that you’re going to hit the ball to that’s going to be able to get you better distance control cuz distance control is the key to not three putting and we work on that by understanding the slope uphill we’re going to try hit it a little firmer and then when we go practice this on the practice grin we take a tea and we putt to a tea That’s All We putt to get a nice colorful tea and stick it in the ground that’s what you’re going to putt to the closer you get it to that tea and the more you practice this the closer you’re going to get that to a hole on the golf course because a tea is Tiny a hole is a little bigger so we stand up here and we take our pre-shot looking at the hole then looking beyond the hole feeling the distance to get it past this hole because we’re heading uphill and that that extra oomph is going to get you up the hill instead of leaving it short see now the distance control is perfect on that I missed the line completely but because the distance control is right I’m not missing the line completely leaving a 4-footer missing the line completely leaving a 5 six footer side Hill putt I’m leaving a one footer and this is what’s going to get you way down on your score because you’re not three putting anymore that’s three four five shots around for a lot of 20 handicap to reduce from a 20 to a 10 handicap is a simple concept with all these strategies the most difficult part though is that you need to think you need to have a plan that takes effort then you need to have disp line and you need to have emotional control when you have a plan you need the disip line to be able to focus on the plan and to follow through on the plan not veering from the plan when things go wrong the other part of that is emotional control so when things do go wrong don’t go into a negative death spiral about how bad everything is and how you can’t play golf anymore stick to the plan you get a ball in the water take your drop continue same plan don’t go and tilt shoving all your chips in with 72 off suit the discipline you need is to be able to continually on every shot stay committed create your field goals hit your shot shape into that area playing a stressfree shot after stressfree shot as a 95 shooter a 20 handicap I know you want to dump the ball into this water here to prove that you can do it but no we have to remove it from our brains and let’s look at something in the distance we have an air sock way down there at the Landing Strip you know what I’m talking about and we can focus on that wind sock to get all these landmines out of our mind in front of us if we aim at that wind sock with our fader it’s going to start on the wind sock and fader into our perfect field goal range which we’ve set up in our mind try hit the ball onto the wind sock just look that’s the last thing you look at before your shot that started on the wind sock and is now fading to toward that bunker but we’re only hitting 2110 yard so we’re not even going to get in the bunker a 10 handicap is only hitting six greens 6 out of 18 greens while a 20 handicap is only hitting four but don’t get too tied up in those greens in regulation because it’s not about chasing the number it’s about doing these things that help you to get onto the green the other thing to remember is that a 20 handicap is missing 14 greens and a 10 handicap is missing 12 greens so how do you actually reduce your score it’s not to hit two more greens that doesn’t account for 10 shot difference in the handicap two more greens doesn’t take 10 shots of your score what takes 10 shots off your score is when you miss the green you get in a place that you can get up and down from the best place to start your short game is on the approach shot so what we’re going to do is find a way of just avoiding the danger secondary is getting it to a great place to chip to make a par save the bogey we don’t want to go in these deep bunkers on the right here because they will absolutely eat you up the only option we have here leave it short of these bunkers so the front edges of these bunkers are about 170 on the right and 180 on the left we don’t want to go in them I’m going to hit a club that goes about 160 so that if I do slice it too much and I get toward that bunk on the right I’m not going in it you’re going at the pin pin hunting and you’re not taking into account your shot shape and you’re destroying your score by getting in the most difficult places we want to miss on the fat side and the Fest side here is short of the green because my field goal area is pretty wide left to right I want to get a very narrow narrow place to aim the ball I’m going to hit my ball at the top of that Tall Tree on the left side at the very top of it I’m going to try land the ball on that branch and let that fader take it in to my field goal range now to get from a 20 to a 10 handicap it’s mainly about reducing the big numbers you’re making a lot more double bogeys at the 20 handicap range than you are at the 10 handicap range you want to remove these doubles by following these strategies to just make sure the bogey is captured and avoid the triples and the quadruples because we get emotional and we lose golf balls by taking on hero shots and then we go into negative death spiral CU we lose $34 every time we lose a golf ball and no matter what anyone says losing a golf ball it just takes a different toll on you especially at 20 handicap range where you start to feel embarrassed you start to feel like you’re slowing the game down follow these strategies to keep the ball in play so you lose less golf balls you bring the score down not make birdies but bring the big scores down that’s our goal here so from 50 yards all we want to do as a 20 handicap trying to get to a 10 is get the ball on the green and how we do that is you can create three different pit shots for yourself you can take a 56° you can take a gap wedge you can take your pitching wtge and you can take the same half swing getting your titties to the Target but the exact same 50% swing doesn’t have to be like exact but the same feeling so you can repeat it and you take a shot with your pitching wedge your gap wedge and your sand wedge and you find out those distes when you have those three distan you now have three different pit shots with three different clubs one swing let’s simplify it down to Bare Bones a beautiful 50 yard with a 50% swing is absolutely golden golden the amount of research I’ve done is far above the average bear what I have found here is the distance you need to hit off the T to meet zero Strokes gained against a 10 handicap so this is the distance of the te you need to hit to kind of match a 10 handicap On a par fire 530 yard 210 yards in the Fairway or 210 yards in the rough the exact same number gets you a 10 handicap Drive field goals are very wide all the way from the left edge of the right bunker to Eternity Galaxy on the left but because it’s so wide we have to n our Focus even more cuz when it’s too wide we get laxidasical I don’t like laxidasical I like focused we’re going to try land this ball in the bunker on the left near the green we can’t reach it right that’s what takes out the Shyer in front of you just aim it at that bunker left Let It Fade into our field goals and that’s going to land in my field goal range with a big fade you can do it sugar daddies what we have to do here is understand the LIE of the golf ball very Basics to get to 10 index very basic I’m not going to go too deep into it if the ball is above your feet it’s going to want to hook if the ball is below your feet it’s going to want to slice to the right if you’re on a down slope it’s going to come out lower and squirt to the right if you’re on an up slope it’s going to go higher and want a hook so we look at our field goals we set them up and then we understand we take the N Out of 10 shot and we hit that so we going to take the hybrid and this one’s going to go about 180 to 190 much like your next Fairway would below your teac Club and I’m not I’m not saying I will but this ball may end up in the trees on the right so that we can take a look at rescue shots of course gang banger not every single shot is going to go to plan but when you find yourself in the dwang let’s resist trying to hit hero shots because when we’re trying to get to 10 index golf there’s no such thing as a hero shot only a stupid shot and the stupid shot here is standing here and looking at the green and thinking okay I got 125 130 I’m going to hit it through this full Mickelson Gap over there bones maai is on my bag he’s telling me it’s a green light shot you do not have the shot to run it through the bunker you do not have the shot to run it along the path here you do not have the shot to get it over the trees with a little hook onto the green it’s not going to happen and this is the point you have to learn to take your medicine or as the Brits say the medicine you have to take your medicine and get the ball back in play to leave yourself a beautiful next shot and this important shot you need to get to a 10 index is a punch shot a punch shot is merely a short Chip Shot I’m going to show it to you real quick and you can do it you just have the same Chip Shot you hit around the green just decrease the Loft to a five six 7 iron and get it back in play the most important thing with a punch shot is it’s a rescue shot so learn to do it to rescue yourself you wouldn’t call an Amber Lamps and expect the Amber Lamps to drive over you thereby taking you out that defeats the purpose of an Amber Lamps so learn to hit the shot practice it to get it into play instead of Smashing it through the Fairway into the Fairway bunker if you are scared of that you have to hit away from the Fairway bunkers so that you don’t go in them cuz once you go in them you destroy the point of a rescue shot so that’s so that’s what we do here if you have the confidentiality not to hit in a bunker beautiful if you think you’re going to hit in the bunker go left of it to the place where you can’t hit in it I’ve got confidentiality to just chip this back into the Fairway get it beyond the trees and leave myself a chip remember titties to the Target we got 100 yards to the middle of the green here you need a 100 yard Club find something in the bag that goes 100 yards it’s going to be the most valuable Club you can have so when you punch out by measuring with your with your red tiger range finder you can find out the distance to the marker and get it there so if you have a beautiful 100 yard Club you’re going to find a range of distance with it you’re not going to hit it perfectly every time so we can hit to that range 108 back 85 front so that gives us 23 yards to work with do you have a club that goes 85 to 108 depending on the strike use that club and this is the place in the game that you can get really good because you don’t need a lot of power you just need practice so we were on a front pin there most people are terrible at this they leave it short they have tough chips we ignored the front pin we went for the distance range and now we give oursel a fighting chance so it’s downhill so we have to Envision a faster putt there’s two ways see a hole short of the hole and and feel that or hit it like a flat putt off the toe of your Club that’s going to kill some of the speed and get the ball to stop close to the hole rather than smashing It Through The Sweet Spot we got 167 to the middle 145 to the front 188 to the back there’s a lot of danger around us but we have to take the most confidential Club if you have a really no confidentiality you can put this short on the front edge on the left side but I’m going to assume that we can hit a 150 yard shot 160 yard shot somewhere in the vicinity of the green and carry it onto the green with our shot shape we set the field goals and we aim for the shot shap to come into the field goal range never let a dingleberry tell you that you’re leaning too much on your short game we have to lean on our short game we are scrambling Men by definition as I’ve told you we need the short game the putting skills of a scratch handicap we’re not going for 10 handicap put putting skills we’re going for Scratch handicap putting skills less than one three putut per round excellent distance control excellent inside 5 ft how do we get exellent inside 5 ft you practice one and two Footers only you practice your distance control with the T in the ground we’re going to do that again here as if we’re on the practice green we’re taking our practice and we’re moving it to the course this is non-negotiable you just have to practice the short gun most people don’t and that’s why it gets Exposed on the golf course so easily now we hit that a little firmer up the hill and now we get great distance control we missed the line but we’re trying to get it close to our little T there now we’ve left the 1 foot tap in and this right here is what you can call Elite golf you’re not hauling many of those puts even on the PGA tour you’re just too putting I see this as an opportunity for us I understand that for 20 handicappers par FS are an anomaly but that’s because there’s an expectation of hitting two amazing shots you don’t need two amazing shots on a par five you need three very average shots that get you near the green for a beautiful up and down and on this hole I’m not saying I will but I might miss the green to show you how to miss the green instead of hitting them all the time like I am so we take into account our shot shape it goes into the field goal area we’re in the Fairway again because we aiming for that shot shape if you overdo it you’re in the rough and at this distance rough or Fairway is about the same if you want to add 20 yard to your t-shot which is perfectly fine or 30 yards without going to get your fundamentals corrected just imagine this fader on the same line don’t just take 20 30 yards up the Fairway imagine it on the same line and I’m in that Fairway bunker down there so if you’re going to add distance you want to do it via good strike and better fundamentals at impact through coaching no YouTube videos YouTube videos what keeping you 20 handicap not a 10 you cannot diagnose your own swing you don’t know what’s causing the problem so you cannot diagnose the exact fix when you go on a YouTube video and get the wrong fix for you you put the wrong fix incorrectly cuz you don’t use down the line or front on cameras to see the before and after you don’t have a second set of knowledgeable eyes guiding you along the way and the distance will come with better strike better technique I promise I’m not anti- distance I’m anti- distance doing it yourself by watching stupid videos on the internet and doing speed training without hitting the middle of the club face first so we’ve left ourselves 250 to 281 okay we’re going to aim for our shot sh it’s going to go over that white steak there and it’s going to fade beautifully into where I want to go and now we’ve hit a terrible shot let’s reset and move on the most important part of a Duff shot or a miss three-footer the most important part of it is to get over it by the next shot did you reset I’m reseted I’m beautiful right now I got 148 to the front 180 to the back and I can see the front of the green there that’s the most open part if I go to the pin at the back over this bunker there’s no chance at a 20 index trying to get to 10 so we hit 150 to 160 yard shot to the right take this big ass bunk out of play if you land in this bunker into the breeze the ball’s going to come down steep angle of descent you’re going to fried egg lie then you have no chance now you’re taking seven eight and bringing a nine into play so we send it out way to the right reduce the Big Score easy game and now we’ve hit it way right and that’s okay that’s better than that bunker cuz from there we have a chip shot onto the green money if you want to bring your score down to 10 handicap this is where you’re going to do it inside 100 yard of course we haven’t hit the perfect shot we are 20 index players but from here no double chip get it on the green guot gear Italian word very simple phrase helps you to stop being greedy what we have to do is find any shot that’s going to get us on the green and the only way we do this is by practicing this is the area of the game that gets exposed the most and makes people very depressed on the golf course Very quickly and that depression and discomfort means you need to go work on this stuff cuz this is what’s going to save you you’re going to miss the green 12 14 times around and that’s all it takes just like a simple shot that gets it on the green doesn’t need to spin a lot just needs to get on the green we missed on the fat side which improves our chances if we miss on the short side in that bunker there we don’t get up and down yeah we’ve given ourselves a chance at least look player it’s not always going to end up like this but that was close to being holed out but if we just get this ball anywhere down here and we leave ourselves a 10 footer 8 footer a 20 footer we will be chasing bogeys instead of doubles and that’s money just come on go practice those pit shots two buckets at the range half swings get those distances dialed with your pitching wedge your gap wedge your Sand Wedge you’re going to be a money short game player when you miss 14 of the damn greens so what we’ll often do is we’ll come up and for some reason some mental slip and I guarantee this is your number one reason you’re doing it you don’t have 110% commitment to something you’re aiming at your shot shape your field goal or the club in your hand these are the things that you need to commit to 100% if you’re standing over a ball and you’re trying to get to a 10 handicap and you don’t feel 110% commitment to everything in your shot you are not going to hit your best shots and a lot of the time these Dove shots come from some form of Doubt you’ve been hitting great shots the whole way around now suddenly you get to hall Hall number six and now you’re like how do I repeat what I’ve been doing oh I got to think a little bit what have I been doing let’s bring some mechanics into the course no get out of your own way keep doing what you’re doing take into account your shot sh to your field goals and let’s go for it but every now and then it’s going to happen you’re going to hit a shot that’s absolutely terrible that you’ve duffed less than 100 yards let’s continue playing from there this may be a position you find yourself in two or three times around 248 to the front 281 to the back 26 60 to the middle what do we do from here do we take out our three wood or our lowest lofted club and whack it as hard as we can cuz number one we’re angry and number two we’re chasing our losses no we increase the upside by getting back into our plan emotional control and disip line so we take that disc line and we make sure we get this ball to a place we love into the green like I say work on that 100 yard shot it may be 90 at maybe 110 whatever and let’s play to those distances every hand every handicap golfer has two three four shots they like to hit don’t tell me you don’t so from 260 I’m going to try hit a shot down there it’s a little downhill so I may get some roll out I’m going to try hit that 150 160 yard shot just to get me to the 100 yard marker hopefully you just have to be perfect in executing your plan the plan is the easy part the execution is a difficult part staying in the moment without getting ahead of yourself starting to count up your score here before you finish the hole we’ve hit one shot we’re not making a seven okay in your head you’re saying oh I’m going to move to a triple no no we stay in it this is the hard part so we go back into our process we aim for our shot shape a little fader we put in our goal posts we found our aim point and we just keep doing the same thing over and over and yes it sounds boring but it’s only boring if you hate scoring with a little feder and it’s going to hit that little down slope and probably put us close to where we want to be giving ourself a chance always increasing the upside by putting oursel in a position to score rather than doing something stupid and putting us in a position to really do badly the 20 handicap is number one problem is no plan and the second problem is not sticking to the plan due to discipline and also emotional control okay stinky pong pong we got 90 to the front 124 to the back let’s talk a little bit about the short side versus the fat side versus where you can Chip and Putt to flatter your short game your short game may not be that it’s just that you’re leaving yourself the really difficult short game shots so inside 100 now we have a 100 yard shot we’ve been practicing this we got a club that goes 100 yard we feel confidential but we want to aim and make sure we don’t end up in the absolute shaer that bunker short is the ultimate short siding you’re coming from below the hole onto the green with minimal space between the pin and the edge of the green then on the left we can see we have a pretty I mean pretty easy Chip Shot if we miss left and to the right we’ve got a fall off there so I would definitely ER more toward at the pin cuz it’s on the left of this bunker and let’s fly 100 yard guaranteed we we cannot have a mediocre strike of 85 yards it’s going to go in a bunker so we aim our field goals they’re much tighter because we have our super reliable 100 yard Club take the bunker completely out of play and aim for left Edge we’ve been pretty lucky today we’ve hit her on the green a lot but you can see how we removing the worst part that’s why we’re getting on the green because we’re taking the conservative approach the smart approach and we’re being more aggressive toward that spot rather than going at pins at 50/50 shots and being super scared when you’re scared and you’re going at a at a very aggressive Target you’re going to screw it up when you go at a very conservative smart Target you go confidentially at it you can hit much better shots something you’ll see 20 handicappers doing that you need to get rid of if you want to be a 10 handicapper is you don’t take enough break so you finish on the low side and then when you finish on the low side the ball finishes further from the cup leaving you a 5 six seven footer for your return part instead of nice easy two one one 2T putt by taking a little bit more brake the first bit of most putts you’re heading through the brake on a long Putt and then the second half is where the brake really does come into play two putts really is a great result so we put that one out a little bit and hopefully it comes left to right there but if it doesn’t you see leaving a PCH short by a foot from that distance don’t worry about trying to hit it a foot and a half past the hole when you start doing that from 30 40 yard 40 ft away you end up 3 4 5 6 ft from the hole give me a 1 and 1/2 2 footer from in front of the cup I’m absolutely money on that and you will be too if you practice your one and two foot putts we haven’t focused that much on setting up the short game shot so that’s what we’re going to do the last couple holes of this round now the last shot was 192 and according to my research that on a 375 yard hole a 10 index player needs to get it in the rough at about 210 and in a fairway to about 194 to have zero Strokes gained against 10 handicaps so this is to put into perspective what is a good shot because a lot of people don’t know what the hell a good shot is and they’re expecting pga2 equality shots when they ain’t pga2 equality players so because the slope is counteracting our shot the balls above our feet but we have the wind of the left that counteracting from the slope will be canceled by the wind left to right the wind is going to make our normal fade come so we set this one up and we put it in a position that we take that water completely out of play completely out of play and we aim middle right of the screen and that’s going to be a much safer shot believe me if you’re trying to get to a 10 handicap than going straight at this hole if you don’t have the confidentiality and you have a shot shape that doesn’t suit it now that’s going to serve you better on courses not like this look how it’s going there because this is tropical grass but I’m giving you an example for if you have to play on a course where you have fine grass or firm ground okay another option is that you take your pitching wedge and you do the same thing you just pitch it onto the green nice and aggressive style and then let it get down to the hole that’s exactly how I would play it you have to find your shots to use in the fat side of the green to get up and down you have to develop these shots so that when you put yourself in advantageous position you don’t waste it you want to get it on the green as a 20 handicap but the best thing you can do is work on distance control on your ping outside 10 15 30 ft you just want to get the distance control great and these are the toughest these are the ones uphill onto a plateau so you go up and then you have to make sure that the speed at the top of the plateau just stays up on the top Plateau let’s say it’s a little bit difficult so we want to make sure our distance control is good but then accept that if we finish 3 or 4 ft past the hole we’re money just don’t let it come back down the hill okay or we can just hold it and that’s not going to happen a lot but if we can just twoot that we walk off with a five I’m walking off with a four very lucky boy path three short path 3es are really an opportunity for you to start bringing your score down as a 20 handicap or a 10 handicap here we need 115 to 46 y so we we set our field goal of what an acceptable shot is I’m going to aim inside my field goal cuz I think that it’s going to fade a lot less and I have more than enough distance even a mediocre strike I can get this on oh great shot in 10 handicap golf guys are getting up and down three out of 10 times and in uh 15 20 25 handicap people are getting up and down two out of 10 times I don’t know what they’re counting those up and downs for if it’s just for par or what but I think this is low hanging fruit if you’re only getting up and down two out of 10 times just some practice and better aiming to your field goal area is going to give you a much better chance of getting up and down to increase that from 2 out of 10 to 4 out of 10 maybe even 5 out of 10 times to save bogeys to save PS now you want to you want to find your best uh up and down shot around the green here and you want to test this out I’m going to do the tow down 56° on the short side here try land It On The Fringe get it close so you know quite a difficult shot and then the other option is you can go for a putt we put that little toe down chip to about 3 ft it’s going to give us a great chance let’s see what happens with the putter you know it’s not too bad it’s not too bad not too good I’m going through tropical grass but we’re on the Green Giving ourselves a chance at the par so we given ourselves like a a 8-footer here for the par 8 Footers 50% on the PGA tour so don’t get too worried if you don’t make many of these and I didn’t make it so that’s 50% I’m going to miss but we ensure the four okay we just ensure the four no double chips make sure it gets on the green so we leave a putt cuz a putt is easier than chipping in a golf ball on the second chip and then with the with the sand wedge chip we got up and down from the information I have to a 10 IND index you need to hit the ball 175 in the Fairway you need to hit it 195 in the rough so we’re going to take the 200 yard clubs to to increase our Arts right so we don’t really want 175 in the fair we want that 200 yard shot knowing that if it finishes in the rough we at the zero Strokes gained on a 10 index what that really means is we’re hitting a good enough t-shot to play to 10 handicap Golf and I hope you’ve noticed I haven’t had any penalty Strokes penalty Strokes kill your score if you’ve noticed I’ve taken clubs that can hit nine times out of 10 and I’ve taken a club that removes the ability to go in the hazard by either not reaching it or playing for the shot shape so it goes into my field goal area and it’s going to work really nice okay if you if you’re hitting a big slice and you’re worried about the water aim it for the lift if you have trees in the way because some people play on narrower courses and your your slice is going to hit the tree you either play Closer tees so you don’t have the trees in play and you have a big slice and play those tees at until your slice goes away or minimizes or you need to use a club that’s shorter that doesn’t slice as much if your slice is unplayable if your draw is unplayable you have to get to a coach who’s going to minimize it if he minimizes your shut shape now you can play tighter courses or you’re going to have to play another golf course if you want to achieve a 10 index and there only eight out of your last 20 scores count and playing this way the best eight scores out of 20 will be around 9 to 12 13 over par bringing you down to a 10 index I promise promise you so from 75 yards you want to hit the ball to 40 ft 100 yard to 50 ft 125 you want to hit it to 60 ft on the green and 150 yards you want to hit it to 75 ft on the green that’s the proximity from the hole that you can gauge is a good shot cuz that’s 10 index zero Strokes gained on average when you hit the green as a 10 index player you have to hit it 25 ft closer than what you’re doing now is a 20 index the way 10 index people do this is firstly yes of course technique but they also aim for their shot shape so the finishing position of the ball finishes closer to the hole they’re not aiming directly at the pin play not playing their shot shape and then finishing 75 ft from the hole when if they had aimed 25 ft left they would have finished 50 ft from the hole like a 20 index playing their fader so to negate this please play to your shot shape don’t play to Phantom straight shots at the pin aim for it so that the ball will curve toward where you’re going so on this shot 100 yard away if I finish within 50 ft of the hole I’ve hit a great shot I missed the green but look at the proximity here I’m probably only about 17 16 ft from the hole and this is a great position to be in and I understand there’s going to be a lot of different 10 handicappers a lot of different 20 handicappers but in my opinion most 20 handicappers suffer in the short game most 20 handicappers suffer off the tea losing golf balls and most 20 handicap is suffer from having a plan at all and then sticking to the plan without emotionality coming into it work on those few things keep your stim pan strong put the pitches in their place you’re going to break it you’re going to be that 10 index now this is what this is why I don’t obsess over Greens in regulation because you know people say green in regulation correlates to lower score distance is the reason for lower scores no no no position is the reason for lower scores and then getting up and down like a bazas is the reason for low scores by aiming for your shots this is not a green regulation would I take this over a putt on the second tier coming down to the bottom tier 100% of the time this is better than a green in regulation on the top tier so don’t get too obsessed about it you want to get up and around the greens as often as possible by not getting in a hazard on your first shot and then getting that getting that Fairway woods and hybrids really strong if you’re playing like qu kind of long te’s and then get it done know what is a good shot for you aim for what is a good shot with for you with the shot shape you have get up and down a lot man 10 handicap Inc coming if it doesn’t come in well you’ve done something wrong watch the video again

  1. I am a 20+ index golfer who would very much like to be a 10. I've only been playing golf for a few years, but I love the game and work hard to improve. Thank you for continuing to emphasize the importance of course management, having a plan and sticking to it. My game is improving and I credit your videos. Thank you!

  2. To be honest players, all the planning in the world and course management can’t overcome poor ball striking. The difference for me when I was a 20 and now a 7-9 is I don’t duff or fat shots often and barely 3 putt. My dispersion is still not that great, but I’ve really minimized dumb mistakes. Especially around the green.

  3. Thanks Playa!!! Great course management advice, as always, right here. My index has been coming down steadily over the last 2 months, all thanks to you.

  4. I’m around that index and I hit mostly draws, especially with irons but simple enough on my end to adjust the advice to my shot shape. Great video and for the playas, sticking to the plan is paramount!

  5. "Only boring, if you're not scoring" Love it! I've gone from a 15, to now a low 10 just learning how to properly miss. Thanks Boyfriend 😂!

  6. Easiest way to do this is to practice your irons and putting. Either hit iron off the tee or don’t duff your second shot. Consistency with irons even if you can only hit 1 shot shape. And putting. Get good enough to never 3 putt. Consistent iron into the middle of the green, first putt gets you close within 3 feet, and if you need a second putt you sink it. Most courses in America if you are playing from the correct tee’s you can reach a par 4 in 2 shots so you just need to avoid the 3 putt. And even if you make bogie, you make up for it on the par 3’s and 5’s where you can get on the green with a chance at birdie with consistent iron play.

  7. Great timing, I'm handicap 20 with goal to reach hcp 10 this year. Currently I lose 3 balls per 9 holes due to inconsistent strike. This morning I sent my first Swingtweak, can't wait for their advice.

  8. I’m currently a 22.5hdcp, and you couldn’t be more right about where I lose strokes. Off the tee, chips and putts. My last round I had 7, yes 7 three putts. Your toe down chipping technique has really helped me, and also trying to avoid hazards by picking a club that won’t reach them. I do however, have troubles sticking to my plan. Especially if I hit a bad shot, or I get rushed. Really lose the confidentiality when that happens.

  9. The toe down and the field goal thoughts have transformed my game. Had a put for 79 today. 🎉🎉🎉 all thanks to you. Legend

  10. LMAO – "Disk-i-pline" !

I wasn't reading the caption so when you said disc-i-pline I thought you were prescribing a new medication LOL. Then I gave it some more thought, and you were prescribing a medication.

Thanks for the reminder, Matty. I'll take a double dose – Wadda playa!

  11. After making every 3-4 ft putt I had today, since I practice them judiciously as you suggest, I handily picked up around $150. Still maybe a bit more. It made a difference as people will usually miss a few of those. This channel gives you good practical advice that will take strokes off of your game.

  12. I've lined up my 9 outta 10 shot, established my uprights for the field go…and now only 28 more putts down the fairway to the green! Thanks, Baus!

  13. I just broke 50 for the first time, I always make sure to keep it confidential on the course! Thank you boyfriend!

  14. Demonstrating diskaplane to not leave an NPC comment about watching youtube golf videos while watching NPC golf videos.

  15. Would you recommend that GPS widget or a watch for people trying to get better at distances? I'm sort of digging taking paper yardage books out on the course instead of watches but it definitely appeals to me. What are your thoughts? Will it impact my swing to have a watch on my wrist?

  16. 18~ handicap golfer. Shot an 82 yesterday. Best round I’ve ever had. Damm it felt good. Stopped thinking so mechanically, just felt the turf, copied my practice strokes, gauged the putting pace perfectly, great bump and running, and hit ALL fairways when driving by simply pausing a split second at top of back swing. All in all, probably a little bit of luck, great advice from the Baus, and a great attitude throughout the round.

  17. do you think straddling your putting line would help. Seems a lot of the pro's do it but i have not seen any statistics that prove it helps.
Did De cham blue do it, does Scottie do it ? Did Nicholson do it ? How about Tiiger ? Or even Lee ? Gary ? Anyway I hate watching them do it but they're the "pro's"

  18. Been properly playing just over one year. I'm at a 22 handicap right now. I could easily identify 10 shots a round that are opportunities to improve.
The biggest issue is that I cannot translate practice and drills into a workable swing on the golf course.

  19. After watching your breaking 100 strategy series I finally did it yesterday and broke 100 by 6 strokes.

Shot a 94 at a 7200 yard course with 6 pars!! Hit a little cheeky toe down 7 iron chip and holed out for a par 😉

Next step is 20 to 10 handicap 🙂 thank you for everything you do brother !!

  20. Love these videos giving us real and useable information with awesome entertainment as well

  21. I'm sorry but I have to.
"watching stupid videos on the internet while telling us how to play golf duurrrr"
Don't block me for too long, my short game is improving because of your stuff.
    Cheers.

  22. Shot a 89 after seeing your breaking 90 series 3 days ago.
The mental strategy and approach is so on point .
It brings the confidentiality to the game playa !!

  23. I need top 3 tips for going from an 11.7 to a 9! My ultimate goal is to be single digits someday. In just under two years, I went from around 17-18, to an 11.7. I think single digits will be the hardest to achieve.

  24. Scored a 45 today, used a bit more strategy I learned from your channel.. I have to clean up 3 putts and learn to not fight my mid iron shot shape (fade).

  25. Extremely good advice for high handicappers. Having a go to shot shape is great adivce for all handocaps, just look the the PGA and LPGA pros, they're usually hitiing the same shot shape 95% of the time. Many excellent ball strikers have a fade, they just know yow and when to hit a draw. Cheers

  26. As someone that plays at an 8 handicap, playa is right. You don’t have to be perfect as long as you stay focused and thoughtful about the course. And practice your short game.
