good luck everybody hot and steamy in Saskatchewan for day number two of this wbsc and softball World Cup B event and here at Rotary Field at Prime Minister’s Park in our second game of the day we have a matchup of Israel and Hong Kong China Hong Kong China last night losing to Canada 7 to1 Israel’s already been in action today they fell 10 to nothing in four Innings and you see 29° and it’s quite humid here as a result of all the rain that’s occurred as you look at the home of the Prince Albert Raiders the artuser center in the Western Hockey League and let’s check in on today’s lineups for this matchup for Israel leading off in left field it’s yive Rosenfeld Ryan Willen is the catcher shnny Harter who’s also pitched in this competition finds himself at second base Roy shalm in center field to designated player is Liam forberg in right field Seth Ross over at first base it’s Ben caner playing third is Orin bobro and the starting pitcher is cafir Leon and excited to see him for Hong Kong China quite similar to what they went with yesterday when the game began against Canada here’s how it looks around the Outfield in left it’s funo hey Cory in is going to work in center field the designated player cooh long is the catcher the starting pitcher is Ling yuk sing and the gentlemen all gentlemen today who will umpire this particular game raldo MOA from Puerto Rico Scott McLaren of Canada Mark korus of the United States and Mike morresy to work in the game as Hong Kong China is is the home team for this contest and they will send their starter from last night back to work and he’s 26y old Ling yuk Singh he’ll turn 27 on October the 19th was very solid in his performance yesterday against Canada in two innings no runs given up just one hit he walked one and struck out one so Israel at 0 and2 Hong Kong China with a record of 0 and one and to lead things off for Israel in the top half of the first inning is the 40-year-old to match his number Yaniv Rosenfeld so far in the tournament he is one for3 his hit came in yesterday’s loss at the hands of Argentina in a game that kicked off this important six team wbsc men’s softball world World Cup group b six teams here three of these kind of events two teams have already punched their ticket in Australia and the Dominican Republic to next year’s big one the World Cup finals which will be staged right here in this very ballpark starting on July 8th as the balls make their way in defensively and here is how things sit Argentina will play later today their record is 1 and0 and a big Showdown with Canada coming up New Zealand with the win leads the way with a record of 2-0 Canada 1 and0 New Zealand as I mentioned with their win right now they lead the standing Singapore is at 0 and one and they’ll take on Canada 1 and0 in the next game and looks like we are set and almost ready to go on this very very warm and humid day in Prince Albert saskatchwan delighted to have you wherever you are tuning in in this great softball World happy to have you on Game Time Sport and here is the 40-year-old Yaniv Rosenfeld and the first pitch is high and in fact it eludes the starting Catcher And The Starting catcher today is cooh Hong as he faces Ling yuk sing and see if he can build on his performance against Canada which was quite impressive last evening Rosenfeld down the line and it will go just foul but a quality cut that time off the bat of yev Rosenfeld this is by my research his first true wbsc event he has played in a number of macabi games and two European Junior Championships going way way back to the late 2000s this has a chance to fall and it does pass the diving second baseman Homan Hoy Adam and a good beginning for team Isreal as Yaniv Rosenfeld has his second hit of this event goes with the outside pitch just literally fought it off in a valiant effort over at second but sprawling unable to get there as it brings to the plate the catcher Ryan Wallen and Willen is 27 years of age and he is 0 for four so far in this group b play so Israel no threat to bunt on the first pitch we’ll see if they move the runner and not the case on the drop ball that is fouled back by willing Ryan played for Israel in the 2021 European championships and was very successful at home played in that event he went 11 for 25 two home runs and 11 runs batted in and finds himself again in the number two spot in Cory viner’s order Cory the head coach who originally hails from Toronto Ontario Canada moved to Israel many many years ago started up a softball and baseball academy and here he is with a team that is in this six team event and that one look out almost a mishap for our great camera woman Carl deste who was just able to get out of the road of that foul ball thank goodness two B BS and two strikes to Ryan Willen as we’ve just opened this round robin Affair and Willen goes the other way and this time it was the golf cart that paid the price but not a human so that’s always good news so willing in search of his first hit here in Prince Albert yive Rosenfeld with a bloop single into right field and a quality rise ball delivered by the pitcher Ling yuk sing as he climbs the ladder and has his first strike out here this afternoon and against a very good Canadian lineup in his two innings of work he really kept the Canadians off balance this is popped out of play by second baseman Shanny Hadar Hadar so far here in Prince Albert is 0 for three he was 0 for one in the game earlier today in the 10- nothing setb at the hands of New Zealand a game that lasted four Innings as New Zealand off to a very very good start they’re 2 and0 but there more difficult games about to begin in this competition although in saying that they had an absolute battle yesterday with Singapore who showed yesterday they will be a country to reckon with here one and one to Hadar and the drop misses Rosenfeld on his way the throw up and over the covering shortstop Chun takai Trevor and a stolen base for Yaniv Rosenfeld so Israel with a runner in scoring position and they’re looking for their first run of the competition two balls and a strike to Hadar fouls it just wide of third so a good rip at the inside pitch that time but chopped it just foul Israel absolutely in its early stages of development in fact Cory Viner told both Kyle Smith and I in our meeting with him a couple of days ago there are only two softball fields in all of Israel and yet here they are among some of the world’s best as far as this competition and the drop ball is the quality offering this time from Ling yuk Singh as he comes back after giving up a base hit and a couple of hard fouls s off to put himself in much better position and the center fielder is Roy shalm shalm is 29 years of age he’s 0 for three so far in Prince Albert he was 6 for 20 in the 2023 European championships last year and would love to help his country score their first run and he he fouls it off the other way shalm 29 years of age facing 26-year-old pitcher ground ball well handled by H man Hoy Adam so an early hit a runner in scoring position but Ling yuk sing helps Hong Kong China out of trouble they’re coming to bat when we return Israel threatened in the top of the first but unable to push their first run of the tournament across the Finish Line a look at the umbrellas and everybody would like a little extra had a lot of quality things to say about not only this pitcher who is also the team captain but this is his first outing of this wbsc men’s softball World Cup group b event then the batter that he faces his 26-year-old center fielder in Cory wingam who was one for three with a double last night in the loss to Canada and he hits this well drives Rosenfeld back and he won’t get there a standup triple for in Cory wingam and Hong Kong China off to a great beginning in the bottom of the first there the ball in the middle of the plate an inside out swing and he drives it and has great speed and stands up with a triple and now it’s Chung takai Trevor the shortstop he’s 28 and he’s one for three he drove in the only Hong Kong China run in last night’s 7-1 setback to Canada and it was a competitive game Canada finally broke away L late and got loose at home play a nice Hustle by Willen to prevent in Cory Wing sum from racing home with the game’s first run Chung takai Trevor 4 for 14 in last year’s Asia cup he had two run runs batted in in that event and has his second run batted in here in Prince Albert there the Hong Kong China Dugout delighted and Chung takai Trevor has his second key hit of this event as he goes right back up the middle kefir Leon almost got a glove on it but couldn’t keep it from bound by him as Hong Kong China breaks through and here’s one way Leong who was also impressive against Canada he was their top hitter last night he went two for three in the game and one of those hits was a double he’s the designated player today as Israel in their second game every team will play a double header in the round robin today two teams will Israel and Canada and that one almost too close for comfort if you’re the batter but he’s able to get out of the way and kefir Leon in his first appearance wants to find some Rhythm took something off belted to Center but playable as shalm will Camp under that about a step away from the warning track and there is one out as Wong weong continues to swing a very very good bat catcher is coolong and when you face a team like Canada in your first game it will absolutely introduce you to the type of competition at a very high level that you will face so for the Hong Kong China batters today a nice preparation tool to get them set and ready for a game that’s really really key for them these are two teams that come in as large underdogs they want to make a showing these are great reps you get better by being involved in these types of games and Hong Kong China has brought their bats to the park at Rotary Field today marvelous change up kefir Leon pulled the string on this pitch and Cole ho long was well out in front as Leon with his first strike out of the competition and now it’s third baseman fun PO he and the way things started in this inning for kefir Leon and Israel to limit this inning to just potentially the one run I think would build some confidence the way it began and Leon missing on the outside corner and now wants an explanation fun poo hey the batter is 22 he’ll turn 23 on August the 6 he’s 0 for three so far after facing Canada and this a good pitch in on the hands and Ryan willing behind home plate really good hustle let go of the Mask found the ball and kept the base runner right where he was which is so important in this situation because it keeps him out of scoring position kefir Leon trying to shut the door and a good swing that time from the third baseman fun PO he was one for thir in last year’s Asia cup he also participated in the last appearance for Hong Kong China in a world cup that came in 2017 here in Canada where he went three for 16 with a run batted in change again and literally off the end of the bat used every millimeter that he could to stay alive and Leon is shown that the change can be effective Cory Viner flat out said the other day you build it there’s a lot of work to be done but feels like now he has a pitcher on the move and no chance to get him so a stolen base for Chung takai Trevor and he picked a great pitch to run on cuz the ball was in the a Full Count Ball Four now kefir Leon wants to have a little chat with his own catcher qu chilong steps into the Batters box the left fielder 0 for three against Canada one evening ago and a swing and a miss that time first strike one Israel trying to make their way back into their own Dugout in that Dugout they’re feeling awfully good about how things have started and the outside corner is painted on the lowrise ball that time from Leon see if he potentially comes back with a change up here out of the Zone Runners at first and second two out a run already in for Hong Kong China Noe the rise and quong stayed alive the 23-year-old who won’t be 23 much longer he has an early August birthday as well it’s early but it already feels important especially for Israel there is the change up and there is out number three an important out for Israel and a great start for Hong Kong China here in Prince Albert there’s a look at the marvelous facility here in Prince Albert Saskatchewan and being born and raised in nearby Saskatoon and having spent lots of time in the Sports World in this part of Saskatchewan I can tell you that the work that has been done here has been incredible it is turned into a world class facility and thus the reason we’re here for a world class event as Hong Kong China strung a couple of hits together and have scored the game’s opening run and the designated player leads things off for Israel in Liam forberg and he delivers a base hit the opposite direction the second hit given up by Ling yuk Singh and when you surrender a run you always want to come right back and potentially respond and if you’re Ling yuk sing you want to slam the door on any type of momentum change right fielder is Seth Ross in this game he has done the majority of the pitching through their first two round robin encounters versus Argentina New Zealand the ball up and in on him and a swing and a miss as Seth Ross goes in search of his first hit here in Prince Albert once again it’s the rise up but this time Seth Ross stays off of it as he looks down at head coach Cory Viner and no show early in the at bat to move the runner and the drop ball out of the zone two balls and a strike pitcher Ling yuk sing was two- one in 16 Innings at last year’s Asia Cup and the ball gets away from starting catcher coolong and that’s good news if you’re Israel as Israel for the second time has a runner in scoring position and a 3-1 count favorable for the hitter and right fielder Seth Ross Israel trying to score for the first time in this their third game and a free pass is issued so a walk preceded by a base hit and here’s first baseman Ben caner 25 years of age and he’s looking for his first hit and he’ll try and move both Runners over but bounds it off the plate foul caner was three for 14 playing for Israel in last year’s U23 World Cup and there are exceptions as far as the age is concerned you are allowed a couple of older players on your roster as caner had a good rip and he’s choked quite considerably up on the bat facing Ling yuking who wants time and potentially a different softball to work with maybe a Rosen bag trying to keep the perspiration down on this very very warm sticky day humidity is generally in this part of the world not an issue but it is this summer because of all the rain prior to the start of this event and then it got redh hot literally today’s expected high in the neighborhood of 34 Celsius ball in two strikes to Ben caner still no one out Israel pressing to tie the game inside and it’s two and [Music] two and that inside rise did not miss the corner by very much drop ball gets away from the catcher in this case because first and second are occupied it’s an automatic strikeout despite the ball getting away from the catcher and allows the runners to move up at their own discretion which Liam forberg did Seth Ross did not so we have a third strikeout first out of the inning and now Runners at the corners with one out and a quality opportunity for Orin bobov the 20-year-old who’s 0 for one so far in the competition in the drop really did just that fell off the table his catcher cooh Hong looks into the Dugout for some signs and he’s had a little difficulty dealing with the good movement bar brav a base hit and Israel has scored their first run here in Prince Albert to tie the game at one a or in Bob hit the ball where it’s pitched crept more towards the inner half of the plate and he drove it into right it’s Israel with a nice response to giving up a run in the bottom half of the first and the pitcher in the number nine spot in the lineup is kefir Leon he’s 0 for one a chopper to Second nicely played and a tough little in between hop for H man Hoy Adam couple of bounces charged the ball and made a good shovel over to First for out number two and the top of the order for yanev Rosenfeld who flared one into shallow right to start this game don’t see any activity yet for Hong Kong China Rosenfeld also stole a base in the first inning at the short stop Chung takai Trevor takes care of business but Israel is on the board here in Prince Albert hydration and shade hot Commodities on this steamy day that’s a look at Prime Ministers Park from the Drone see the different diamonds misses down and kefir Leon falls behind three balls and no strikes to inun and these are the type of players to build around he’s just 19 and an illegal pitch is the call from the home plate umpire and out comes Brian Aaron one of the coaches pitching coach to have the discussion it led to an automatic walk because an illegal pitch brings with it a ball and now kefir Leon has to probably clear the mind anytime that happens to a pitcher can be really difficult to reset homean Hoy Adam made a nice play to end the last half inning defensively now he hopes to help his team regain the lead and the change up is out of the strike zone Asian teams in the past would generally play a little bit more small ball but haven’t really seen that here out of either Singapore or Hong Kong China two balls and a strike no one out lead off batter aboard on the walk now the sacrifice at least to show it but pulls the bat back and it would appear that the illegal pitch call was a little unsettling gets away from catcher willing it was Ball Four he’ll track it before in shun has a chance to even think about scampering towards third backto back walks including an illegal pitch and Israel in some difficulty in Hong Kong China in a position to pounce Quan shingai the right fielder and number nine batter in the lineup and Hong Kong China in great position they turn two hits into the games’s opening run in the bottom of the first runs up the Batters box but takes for a strike generally hitters at the top and Bot botom of orders have more of a slap hit small ball type of Feel Again runs up the box and nicely defended by Israel his home man Hoy Adam at a huge jump and the bunt unable to be delivered and I would guess it’s if you’ve ever been in the Batters box trying to lay down a bunt that’s not easy to do when you’re almost in full motion and Leon at a very important time in the game comes through with another quality change up for his third strikeout of the contest that’ll help you settle right back in if you’re kefir Leon and now the dangerous top of the order an in Cory Wing suum who tripled his first time up and had a big rip at that first rise ball he’s now two for four in the tournament with a triple and a run scored quite like the first three hitters in the Hong Kong China batting order if the first nine innings that they’ve played in this tournament are any indication change up again but this one out of the Zone but probably one of the most important things about the change up in that location is you’re not going to really be hurt as a pitcher when it’s out of the zone and low and away from the batter now a little more velocity and a good result for Leon is a swing and a miss by Chun Kai Trevor or make that pardon me in Cory Wing suum the center fielder change up again is the answer this one was up and had a little rise action to it well worth another Peak so backto back strikeouts for kefir Leon and now a chance in facing Chun Tac High Trevor to get himself out of an inning that did not start well with backto back walks and the drop ball down for a ball base hit and an RBI so far for Chung takai Trevor he’s in a position to cash in again as he asked for time expected a competitive game and that’s exactly how this one has started two balls and no strikes Israel with their first run in their three games here in the last half they won to build on it and it is drilled to left and will give Hong Kong China back the lead as Chung takai Trevor has started with authority backto back base hits and they’ve both driven home runs the short stop is delivering for Hong Kong China here this afternoon two for two with two runs batted in and on the throw to third he was able to move up to Second and now a real opportunity for Hong Kong China with a base hit to give themselves some Breathing Room change up a mile high for Ben k inning over Hong Kong China regains the lead in their second game here in Prince Albert fans have turned out despite the sweltering heat to watch some of the world’s best players you don’t get these opportunities every day that is for sure in Hong Kong China their shortstop Chung takai Trevor having himself a day two singles and they’ve both driven in runs and the reason for the Hong Kong China Advantage it’s two to one as Ling yuk sing set to work for the third inning here’s catcher Ryan Willen he struck out his first time up in this game off his hands and there’s one away Hong Kong China was unable to close the door after opening the lead they hope for a different result as you see the pitch that ties up Ryan Willen and Homan Hoy Adam with a routine ground ball to deal with Shanny Hadar over at second also a member of the Israel pitching staff he worked an inning in the 10 nothing setback at the hands of New Zealand in today’s first game two more still to come after this one Canada and Scrappy Singapore at four and then in a showdown that certainly many including myself anticipating Canada and Argentina the 2019 World Cup champ ions versus the 2015 World Cup champions both Canada and Argentina softball Elite countries gets away from the catcher recovers and throws a strike nice work to retrieve and deliver from catcher cool L and it’s another strikeout third of the game fourth of the tournament F Ling yuk sing no hesitation behind home plate center fielder is Roy shalm and the inside drop is just a little inside grounded out to Second his first time up did shalm he’s 29 years of age rise ball rubbed up by the catcher you can tell that a pitcher has Quality quality stuff quality pitches if you will when your own catcher at times seems to have a difficult time dealing with the movement the bunt and the Pitcher will handle made a strong throw to second baseman H man Hoy atam and he wasn’t able to make the catch so it’s going to be an error I believe that will be charged pitcher did a nice job to field it second baseman was over on the cover and Israel has a runner at base after the air and now Liam forberg steps in quick snap throw and shalm back in plenty of time see if head coach Cory Viner the Toronto Ontario product potentially has this runner in motion looking to advance into scoring position there he goes and there he goes as well a strike delivered by Co ho L you couldn’t put this in a better spot to end the Israel threat this is some throw by the catcher two runs three hits and an air committed by Hong Kong China Israel one run their first of the tournament in their third game on three hits they have not committed an error coong the catcher who threw a strike to end the top of the third inning will lead things off he struck out versus kefir Leon in the first and now requires a shoe tie this he’ll set himself takes a deep breath and now after delivering with his throwing arm hopes to do just that with the bat Leon misses down for ball one with a drop the 24y old Hong Kong China catcher 0 for three in the tournament and in on the hands and fouled off the top of the screen in connection with the back stop we are at Prime Ministers Park and this is Rotary Field the main diamond where all the games are being played it’s a terrific facility as we’ve shown you from the overhead look with all the different diamonds allows teams to to practice both fielding and hitting and preparation for their games nice setup here routine Fly ball that shalm will take a couple of steps in and there’s one away in the bottom of the third inning there cool lung flies out and that will probably be the story here moving forward in the game it’s been lots of activity lots of Runners on base which team’s pitching staff and defense can really settle in and get in a Groove need some one two three type Innings Ling yuk Singh thanks to the help of his catcher only faced three batters it wasn’t a one two3 inning though kefir Leon hoping for one right now as he deals with third baseman fun PO he walked back in the in inning number one and he had a quality rip at that pitch and he knew he just missed it right in the Wheelhouse aise ball good location for the hitter he turned on it and sent it straight back a home plate there’s the change which has been the best pitch so far for kefir Leon so far in the game he has four strikeouts and three of them have occurred as a result of the change up there it is again pop up and Shanny Hadar takes care of that with ease two away for quak chilong who struck out on one of those quality change UPS to end the bottom of the first Chung aai Trevor the short stop has been the wheeler and dealer offensively is oh boy H takes a big bite out of Catcher Ryan Willen and they’re looking for the magic spray looks like he got it in the thumb area of his catching hand tries to shake it out and this is a player Israel can ill afford to lose he does a really nice job behind home plate and is in the number two hole in the hitting lineup we’ll see if a change is necessary well here comes the spray so not only does he pitch he also applies spray I’m not sure sometimes there’s enough spray in the world to look after some of those things but it might give you a little Comfort maybe more between the ears for a few minutes so Keir Leon the captain who does a little of everything including uh medical help goes back to set himself to continue to pitch now that’s fun nice little storyline he’s got a big smile on his face and hopefully his catchers is going to be okay as Ryan Willen resets to duty change up misses out ball in a strike to quak chilong is Israel in search of the first one two three inning defensively doesn’t happen driven right up the middle as quak chiong has his first hit here in Prince Albert came in and went out quickly he saw the location in a good spot for the hitter and now stepping in is first baseman inun who walked and was stranded in the second Leon goes away from the left-handed batter pretty similar pitch that he just threw the difference was work better versus the left-hander away than into a right-hander and that’s the pitch that has worked so well and he’s just a young player is kefir Leon 24 years of age so lot of great pitching left to be done runner on the move and steals second base is quak chilong Engineers his way into scoring position Shanny Hadar tried to put on the tag was in front of the bag when he accepted the throw and right through the wickets as it eludes catcher Ryan Willen in two pitches Israel who look to be sailing along pretty nicely here in the bottom of the third Now find themselves in another difficult scenario trying to keep Hong Kong China to no more runs and a one-run deficit if you’re Israel and they just did a little extra something something on that pitch from kefir Leon dialed it up in not 2-1 Hong Kong China over Israel after three innings Ling yuk sing continues to work in the circle for Hong Kong China sacking game that he has started went two innings in the loss to Canada but did not give up a run last night he’s given up one on Three Israel hits so far this afternoon is Hong Kong China like Israel attempting to move into the wind column for the first time all six teams here in Prince Albert will play five round robin games New Zealand after their 10 nothing four inning triumph over Israel earlier today sit at top the standings with a record of 2-0 Canada 1 and0 Argentina 1 and0 Singapore 0 And1 and Hong Kong China 0 And1 is there hoping to change that fortune up and out on the rise ball from Ling yuk sing Liam forberg the designated player he singled and scored Israel’s only run not only of the game but of the tournament Tong takai Trevor ranging to the bag and throws it across the diamond in plenty of time for the out number 35 for Hong Kong China is doing it all today he’s driven in both the runs two for two and been very steady and effective over in that great and important Short Stop position and here’s right fielder Seth Ross in and he fouls that back pitcher Ling yuk sing he has yet to have a complete one two3 inning only fa the three batters made an error but then helped out by his catcher with a throw out at second on his stolen base attempt wanted that one a sweeping motion to the last pitch curving away from a right-handed batter but curv just a little bit too far away now comes in and there he is again Chung takai Trevor couple of six to three outs in your scorebook and there’s two away Ben caner he struck out in the second inning playing over at first base and well outside that time for ball one caner was four for 17 with six runs batted in in last year’s European championship and look out well over the head and now the umpires want the on Deck batter to stay in the circle they didn’t like Orin bobov coming over to somewhat be involved wasn’t appreciated either by the pitcher it was quick to point it out as well so two balls and no strikes with two outs to ban caner and now there are three balls at the European Championship his best day offensively came in a two hit 4run batted in performance against Great Britain on July the 26th there’s a strike Ben caner is 25 years of age also participated in the 2021 European championships so Israel with some good opportunities some good competition the last few years as they’re building a fledgling program Ling yuk Singh runs the count full Hong Kong the Israel catcher and has brought a hush to the park and there’ll be some medal medical attention on the way which every Tournament of this stature always has ready and able oh it’s good news really good news and looks like he’s even going to stay in the game not exactly sure where the contact was made did sound like it got a piece of the helmet for sure which is great news and they’re going to confer and make sure that he’s actually you know he wants to stay in play but the real question that requires medical answers is should he well the good news is he doesn’t have to stay for a while because he’s The Catcher And with two out you have an opportunity to run for the catcher in this situation so that is fantastic news for Ryan Willen is the medical people will continue to check and just trying to show in so many ways that they’re getting better and want to continue to be part of these types of Events maybe not ready to necessarily truly contend with the best of the best but the only way you do that is by playing in these events Keir Leon he’s given up six hits three runs he’s definitely kept the majority of Hong Kong China batters off balance he has seven strikeouts need some help from his left fielder and Yaniv Rosenfeld went down and couldn’t come up with a catch ball started to tail away and down couldn’t come up with it so an error is H man Hoy Adam the second
