Is your ball striking inconsistent?
If so the likelihood is you are bending your arms in the golf swing which results in poor contact, loss of distance and slicing.
The best players in the world maintain their arm structure throughout the golf swing and practice this on the range including Rory McIlroy and Justin Rose.
In this video I share a drill to help keep your arms straight in the backswing and through impact to improve your golf.

hi go it’s Nick here from go in today’s video we’re going to talk about why the pros are using this as a training aid to improve their go swing you’ve seen Justin Rose where we macro using this on the Range so first up we’re going to give this a go and we’re going to talk about the issues I see and we’re going to work on a drill that’s going to help you here so just got 79 here so for me it’s not going to change too much here should be able to keep this ball here between my arms create the same kind of speed hit a similar type of shot if I didn’t have the ball so in today’s video we’re going to talk about what the arms should do we’re going to talk about what the elbows should do in the swing and then we’re going to talk about drill that can help you control this so one of the biggest issues I see when golfers bend their arms and this happens at various stages of the Swing this could happen in the takeaway this could happen at the top of the Swing but this causes a few issues so if I swing back here and at any point start to pull these elbows apart this does a couple of things I lose kind of the width I lose the structure I also lose kind of the angle and the control over my wrist so from the side view you’ll see how if I pull these apart this will start to steepen the swing PA so i’ start to swing across the ball also this has issues with controlling my wrists at impact if this elbow pulls apart it’s very hard for me to get into a good impact position controlling the low point and creating some sharling if I pull this elbow apart the handle kind of comes back here very hard to connect with the ball so the issues I would see golf is kind of pulling these apart very hard to make good contact as you come through the ball so the purpose of having a ball there is to control your arms control kind of the width of your swing the structure the wrist angles the impact position so we’re going to talk about how you can do this with without the ball so first thing is talking about the setup position this is really important when you grip the club your right arm should be tucked in in slightly so my elbow here is tucked underneath you’ll see from the side view camera this right arm is slightly bent here this is really important so the right arm folds in the correct way in the back swing now with the right arm there should be slight Bender set up then it should gradually Bend in the back swing not past kind of 90° though I don’t want to be bending this arm too much here should be bending about 90° in the top of the back swing this is going to help me keep my left arm straight it’s going to help me keep my left wrist flat it’s going to help me swing the club on plane so the setup position tuck your right elbow in that’s the first thing then in the back swing here what we’re going to do is we’re going to work on a drill to help us control these elbows and arms as we hit through so as we go back here whatever happens in the back Su we’re going to take it to position three position three is when the left arm is parallel to the ground then what we’re going to do then is just squeeze these elbows together as I get to three so I do that again so I’m going to go back however I normally go back still have to make sure I’m turning I’m tilting my shoulder down but as I get to three just going to squeeze these elbows together and then I’m going to go back a little bit further and then come down when I finish I’m just going to squeeze my elbows again so I’m going to do that quite slowly to begin with so let’s go to three squeeze go a little bit further then squeeze here as well so this is kind of helping me control these elbows this is also helping me control my wrist it’s helping me control my swing path and it’s helping me control my kind of strike on my low point like I said this right elbow slightly flexed as we hit the ball slightly flexed as well and it shouldn’t straighten until after impact now I think people get confused I think your arm should be like dead straight in the goal swing that’s why I think the ball’s really good because it teaches you that actually you should be keeping your elbows the same width apart through the swing like I said this is a really big issue where goers will kind of pull these arms apart certain stages in the swing so let’s do this again so let’s go wherever I am at three squeeze a little bit further finish squeeze again I’m going finishing here at position eight where my arms parallel to the ground because that’s the point where both arms should be straight I mentioned the right arm should be slightly flexed as a set up gradually bends in the back swing should be still be slightly flexed but tucked in to my left arm not away this is the issue I see away like this handle back really inconsistent weak goal shots let’s do that again so arms tucked in to three squeeze go a bit further and then kind of stop about position eight I’m just squeezing again so I’m developing this feel this is really important when you practice you have to try and develop a feel for the drill and then once you’ve kind of practice that a few times I’m going to try and now attempt to swing normally but as I’m going back here it’s going to kind of feel the squeeze near the top and then I’m going to try and swing through as I would do normally so squeeze and through okay that felt really good so a lot of the time when you’re working on your swing work on drills because that’s what’s going to help you make these changes okay the ball’s really good right that that does it for you but sometimes I see people with the ball get the ball and then they start making this sort of move or keeping it into their body so I really like this because it teaches you how to do this without the ball so position three squeeze and then from there just go back a little bit further and swing through so hopefully this drill helps guys um if you don’t already please subscribe to other social media platforms and I’ll see you again next week for another [Music] video feel I’m here and you’re not
