[Music] welcome back to Emporia Kansas for the PDGA coverage of the 2024 professional Masters Disc Golf World Championships presented by Dynamic Discs I’m Nathan Johnson joined in the booth today by Dan Brooks Wells how’s it going Dan doing really good Nathan we have some awesome golfers today if you have not see the front N9 go watch the front 9 what are you doing we got a 90° day a little bit more than 90° day now the wind is cooperating today it is not blowing as hard as yesterday and we are seeing a little bit of better better scores because of it we have River at 6 under mcabe at 5 under FaZe at 5 under and mikako at three under yeah worth mentioning there is going to be a cut after this round the end of regulation per se before the semi-final and then the final 9 holes of this world championship so guys trying to make a move for positioning guys a little farther down leaderboard trying to make the cut and uh see what they can do out here absolutely we are going to start here at whole 10 this is a par three 368 ft there is an OB Island right in front of where they’re teeing off and there’s OB left and there’s OB on the right side in that little parking lot so this is a challenging hole cuz the ceil you’re throwing uphill and it the ceiling is is low as the disc is coming in this is a fantastic shot uh inside the circle putt right there uh the mistake you see a lot are people especially the right-and back hand will Heiser out and you can skip because the because the uh the hill kind of goes right to left and that carries the disc and skips it to the left too far and Ro kind of counteracts that by throwing this little anheiser shot yeah it doesn’t get too much ground play there kind of checks up a bit short very similar spot to where Leo landed I like this forehand play from from faas kind of counteracts that Hillside and uh hopefully we’ll get a little more ground play up towards the basket yeah I feel the same way as long as you can get under these trees usually ends up being a good one and that one is pretty perfect yeah very well thrown there from Jeff here my cave now oh bit of an early release it is flipping ooh and a nice little kiss off the tree to get him to circle’s Edge that one could have skipped uh little bit down that Hillside but instead he’s left with a 30-footer for the birdie we’ll see if he can capitalize and he does let’s go remember we talked about taking advantage of your good breaks exhibit a or I guess at this point Exhibit C C yeah something like that a little shorter birdie putt for mik Leo just a bit short you could see the reaction there just a bit disappointed in himself and here is R for his birdie putt as well been pretty solid so far on the putting green so you can keep it going Stripes it no problem phase close enough to just tap it on in three for four yeah well done by these guys hole 10 did play as one of the harder fourth hardest hole on the course at a 2.99 average basically right at par so it’s a it’s a good birdie to pick up and you’re just going to walk up the hill a little bit here to Hole 11 this is a par 3 35 ft blind shot off the T OB on the left Obi on the right and this screen is kind of a kind of a peninsula here that slopes down so a lot of shots you know the mistake that I see is a lot of shots will Heiser out early and you’ll find one of these these OB Landing zones but not on that one absolutely based by Joe Riv he is keeping up this hot round at least on this card this one is a bit wider from FaZe but has a good amount of Hiser on it so he gets that nice little Skip and roll into the bullseye going to be a birdie coming up for him as well yeah I really like that wide route it really keeps you away from that OB a little bit more maab is asking for it to get left and it does hang out there and he he will have an outside the circle look yeah slightly downhill a bit of a scary putt potentially Leo now going with the more direct route as well does it have the Finish get on over there it just never got that swing left it it it it you know this kind this downhill kind of pushed it straight instead of letting it get a little bit back and as you can see maab is left with 40ish feet lot of chains but left side does not stick that one look good out of his hand but just just a bit off Leo Leo is left with I’d say an easier putt to run here probably a little bit back uphill yeah definitely going to want to give this one a bid from about 36 ft or so you can see he’s checking the uh checking the tassels make sure he can step it no it doesn’t step it might have been just inside the circle actually just a bit High sometimes I don’t know about you sometimes I’ll check it and then it doesn’t even matter I’m not going to step it anyway like why don’t we just check that I’m a bit different that cuz I am uh an avid step putter but yeah I I I get that just a mental just a mental note to see where you are I get couple drop in birdies there for Riv and FaZe very well thrown t- shots and and well earned birdies heading over to whole 12 this is a par 4 556 ft OB parking lot on the right side OB on the left and throwing into this interesting green a couple of Guardian trees and surrounded by OB it’s it’s a it’s a it’s basically an island on this second shot so you have to be care I mean there’s not much wind today but round two we saw how the wind kind of held it as long as you start moving left before the flag pole you should be good just like that yeah I think that one actually went around the flag pole so uh kind of hung it out there maybe a a little wider than you wanted but still a very a great result absolutely I think on a you know if we had the same amount of wind that I don’t know if that would have been safe but today can certainly hang it out that wide Jeff on the inside you’ll see this a little bit more often just make sure you stay away from that OB he’ll still have a look into the green you saw the uh the the card in front of us uh kind of couple bags up in the Fairway I don’t think those should come into play but did make me a little bit nervous seeing the first drive come in and this one is smok from a k that’s that’s going to be in a great spot yeah he pushed a lot left a lot more left than the other two mik he’s also going to be left let’s see if he has the distance he does get caught up on one of those trees still look I mean he’s far farther away but it’s still a putter or mid into the green yep just a nice wide shot let something swing in seems deep yeah going to be in that rough area behind the basket deep right of the basket we’ll see what kind of putt he’s looking at here in a sec uhoh oh that was a fortunate break there for FaZe skips out of the OB that one definitely came out a little lower than I think he was hoping yeah this this can be a tricky up shot cuz you’re you’re trying to keep it low enough that it doesn’t Sail on you cuz this does drop off very quickly and there was a really well controlled shot from R you can see these guys very just barely throwing these Putters down the hill while thrown from a cave as well checks that one that one checks up close to the basket pH kind of an in between stance here not sure what to go with just yet trying to get trying to get a little comfortable here oh oh man one of those yeah absolutely hit the it hit the band and then it tickled a little bit of chain I don’t see that often kind of an awkward lie here for ma he also stretch come on man stretch it out go to the knee you’ll get like three more inches ah man you never know just a bit off it’s a tough one it that’s one of those ones where you know you can’t hold that position for too long you kind of kind to decide like okay this is good enough my leg is starting to burn I need to putt this true i’ I’ve held off on the old man jokes but this is the MP 40 division so you got to keep that in mind you know oh man age is just a number that’s true that’s I mean Hey Joe River is is proven that one if we’ve seen if we’ve learned anything so far from this week like that hole the dynamic dis jury man this thing’s good I love using it for my putter up shots or even just throwing it off the tea too real nice I I like spinning it for deep circle two putts as well when the wind comes out whether it’s putting or throwing it’s just very reliable and I can trust it and you know it’s even even pretty solid for some little four-and turnover shots too this thing’s money as soon as I got it immediately made the bag you should definitely try one out too and 13 Par 3 380 ft throwing over OB for 85% of the flight onto this peninsula Type green here or I should say Island almost Type green um making sure you don’t go too long as well cuz that can happen too you can sneak out the back so i’ I’d say in the wind this is a pretty challenging hole without wind it it’s definitely a little bit easier to spot this one yeah as you can see by the trees over Joe’s shoulder pretty calm at the moment although this disc is dancing a little bit but in the end keeps its height and sticks the island green just inside Circle one I guess not technically an island green although in practice it plays as one right yeah we’re not all I guess we’re not allowed to call it island green but I’m doing it I’m saying wow D bad Dan bad boy Brooks Wells over here break rules that’s a good shot by mcab anything within side the circle is a good one here see Jeff FaZe can match first two this one needs to hold on it’s going to leak out a bit to the left he’s going to find himself as you can see another pin position over there he’s going to find himself behind that big one yeah we’ll see if he even has a putt over there that is one of the wider trees I have ever seen on a disc golf course this one has some nice width we’ll see if it has that late stability o to check up and we see our first cart path curb defeated or maybe the other way around unfortunately OB there for Leo we’ve had a good run with the good breaks but it’s got to end eventually and here is FaZe having to stretch out oh count it see age is just a number he stretched he he stretched out bang the putt awesome we love to see it I love to be proven wrong that was a great straddle putt there from Jeff and a nice birdie you can hear looks like he is at circle’s Edge coming back for his par putt oo just barely over the rim sneaks it in it’s a big par save to keep him at three under for the round and a really great for Joe come on man it’s too good that’s how you know he’s on a heater that’s a huge putt that 30-footer yeah to keep it rolling the leads at 12 I mean even with that make from a cave like that is just yeah insane it’s tough we still got you know more than a round and a half left this guy’s got to start putting the pedal to the metal this is whole 14 par 4 660 ft tunnel shot down this Fairway getting to a landing Zone somewhere in here and then throwing a Hiser into this dog leg left basket there’s Obi on the right side there is Obie all along the uh path on the left side as well I would say this is probably the most demanding t-shot on the course in terms of danger and uh you know technicality of of shot selection you see Joe going with the low Hiser flipped on the right hand side probably the safer play the more aggressive play I guess would be that turnover on the on the left hand side of the tree I think that’s just Eagle’s line yeah or I’m sorry that’s Simon’s line Simon’s line yeah oh no Eric’s taking it this is what I’m I’m not talking about the wide aner I’m talking about this anheiser I see what you’re saying I guess that was more of a straight shot from from aabe still very well thrown but all right FaZe take the Simon line come on do it he’s on Team MVP come on now do you know what he’ll just have to settle for a great shot down the center oh yeah great is understatement that was piped way down there if you do push yourself a little left you can find yourself uh Landing in a spot where you can kind of cut that corner shorten the hole just a little bit but again really technical to get over there ma letting this one leak a little bit low and a little right and gets a little cut roll now he could cut this corner but that is a risky play it doesn’t seem like he’s lining that up yeah it looks like just going to go opt for the wide Spike Heiser on the right hand side much safer option still very much able to get himself a birdie luck if he throws it well and yeah not too bad actually goes a little too straight mhm it’s going to be probably Deep Circle two or 70 foot or something like that yeah I guess I guess you want a little bit more height just like macab does here thanks for doing what I’m saying to give it time to swing over oh yeah making you look like a genius Dan that is a great shot from a cave puts it at circle’s Edge I love it when I when I appear that way I know the truth all right Joe’s cutting the corner he’s taking your other your other option he say catches that late tree say Good Tree maybe he maybe that was coming in a little hot would have been a little bit too far um and FaZe here is left with a little chip forehand into the basket does have to test this OB not easy to stick this one close to the basket with that slope sit for yeah throwing a slow enough disc and the thick grass works out I think the good thing about this Joe gives this a run I think the good thing about that shot too is if if he does hit the path if he does hit the road he’s just going to skip inbounds so that’s probably calculate into his shot and here is where Ma ended up just a little deep you can see there is a little OB patch in front of him it looked like it got a little high at first but it’s everything’s fine yeah just a solid layup okay C got himself a 32f footer little uphill checking the wind might be coming back at him just a bit I Wonder has a spin putter if he kind of likes that headwind can just kind of aim at the middle and know the the the disc is going to stay up maybe I mean can anyone really like headwind though somebody leave in the comments does anybody like putting in a headwind I mean it worked out for him there that’s a great putt was did he enjoy it he like I guess he did I don’t know yeah maybe he hated that putt he just I made it out of spite that’s right but it worked out either way take it cave is trying to keep up with Riv here he’s able to take a stroke back yeah I mean both macab and FaZe both have great rounds going nine down through 14 holes is a very solid score but Joe Riv just hasn’t made mistakes you know he’s not letting these guys gain any ground just through his consistency yeah see if we can keep these streaks going on whole 15 this is a par three 327 ft the danger is to the right here getting in that little uh scruffle of bushes and then there is OB long yeah this is such a cool hole to look at just love that kind of funnel in towards the basket and very tricky green C just going to go with a nice mid-range here he’s been throwing this yellow disc I I I feel like it’s got to be an emac truth right if it’s not if it’s not he’s he’s needs to like reconsider his branding you know right he’s doing himself a disservice but if it is which we think it is that was a great shot he will be inside the circle a little of an obstructed pot FaZe a little I mean that’s that’s just a Mis relase yeah just early yeah I don’t think it got far enough in to where he’ll have a difficult approach probably just a pitch up for his for his par coming up River looks like he is throwing a fairway driver here trying to throw that little turning shot that flexes out just leaves it a little left seems to be a favorite shape of his just like that little tiny popup anheiser out Leo just going straight at it nice neutral disc Skips a little deep left but well inside the circle we’ll have he’ll have a birdie putt coming up himself self let’s see what Jeff’s lining up here is he going to go high right through that little Gap up there maybe and he does I guess it that that route gave him a little bit of a run yeah definitely the best chance to make it and not really too much danger Joe threw a forehand in in round one can he replicate it come on do it again not a not a bad effort at all good try definitely trying to make 100% yeah likeo from about call it a 29 footer yes sir knocks down is a tough tough green to access feels like a good birdie to me yeah whole 15 as McKay TAPS in his birdie played right in the middle of the pack at a 2.79 average so good one to pick up 30% of the field doing so and these guys will have to settle for their pars nobody is immune to a course like Northwood black just throwing laser beams that’s so good resell the birdie the fist pump critical shot got to get up [Music] prell that is a shot of a champion your 2024 Champions Cup winner Andrew [Music] [Applause] presno we are headed over to Hole 16 this is a par 3 397 ft got to travel a little bit of ways to get over this water and you got to watch out for for that Pavilion which is going to be OB as well and that Pavilion comes into play more than you would think it would yeah especially at 397 you know you got to make sure you put a move on this one and it’s when it gets a little windy can definitely overturn a disc But Eric McCabe does not have any problems with that that one’s absolutely based very well thrown uhoh just get over yeah fortunately he catches that tree and he finds himself in the middle of this pond it’s just a tough tough result there coming down the stretch looking to finish strong this is a very looking good looking line from Jeff checks up well inside the circle for him yeah that’ll do he did find that o that Pavilion round two good recovery this needs to get up or skip off the water okay scared me yeah it was uh a little low out of the hand I’m sure Joe was maybe a little bit nervous an untimely wind drop could have done him dirty there but does land inbounds going to be left with probably a 37 38 footer or so back up the hill just outside the circle safe putt to run yeah Lees a little you know what though I I don’t mind that Miss cuz he he does have that nose down Putt and we’ve seen him miss a few of low going uphill so he does try to make the correction off of that he’s just got to find the in between yeah as as a nose down putter myself I find uphill putts it’s tough to tough to figure out where to aim Jeff FaZe there just aims at the dead center of the basket and he hits it for a nice birdie putt I love it when it works out like that aim at the middle you hit the middle yeah guys this sport is easy easy I don’t I don’t know what everybody else is doing at home but just just make the putts you know it’s that simple still haven’t gotten to the caves drive yet barring something insane happening the lead is going to be back to single digits okay so uh Eric able to make up a little bit of ground here and uh trying to to put his name back in the mix we are heading over to whole 17 this is a par three 323 ft just got to get yourself over this body of water and you will be putting at this beautiful elevated basket I love when they do stuff like this built you know like building up the green making it look nice um macab he’s on a streak let’s see if he can keep it going I think if there’s any one honestly that can catch R it’s going to be mcab this is his home course he’s the course designer but he’s going to have to work for this birdie yeah the the uh the downside as a player on a green like this is your distance control has to be perfect you can’t really Skip One up in there cuz those rocks are going to uh deny your disc to get any closer than about 28 ft so this is looking real nice though the other thing about it is it rewards great shots like that from Jeff checks up inside the chips or stones or whatever that happens to be that was a great job absolutely in rever this one is leaking left definitely not what he was looking for yeah I’m sure he wanted that on a little bit of anheiser out of the hand and just never quite got the turn yeah you either got to throw it straight at it or you got to throw it at this tree on the right side and let it Heiser in right before it is typically what we see ma doing just that oh I don’t know how that missed the tree I think it just went barely in front of it trees aren’t real so true this this a very good point yeah so Joe from downtown good effort woo yeah just a bit low he’ll have another chance to take another stroke from here yeah probably right around circle’s Edge maybe just outside a little uphill little little short left just kind ofer out before it got to the chains awkward footing for FaZe but not awkward enough Jeff’s kind of had a sneaky sneaky good Round Here matching maab right now at that 11 under Mark um also making up one stroke for the moment on on Riv got to give some some credit where credits do yeah absolutely he’s been really solid on the putting greens I really I think I think I’ve seen him miss one putt but for the most part he’s taking advantage of all his opportunities inside the circle and let’s see if they can take advantage of our last here hole 18 par 4 648 ft there’s OB lining the right side you’re trying to get to this Landing Zone before this ditch or actually drive it into the ditch and have an easy shot up into this green so we saw day two a few two guys got into the ditch didn’t have to deal with the trees had an easy pitch up for their bird and two guys ended leaking out to the left and they did have to deal with hitting another Gap so let’s see what they can do here yeah left side definitely the preferred side though as it opens up the Gap more if you overturn a disc on the right not ideal but that is in a great spot for Jeff right in the ditch like you talked about kind of spooking the card in front of them a little bit but a great shot nonetheless this looks to be pretty good as well a little shorter than phases but he should be staring at that Gap Jeff’s got some sneaky distance I uh for for as compact as his form is he kind of has that ultimate style where he has two hands on the disc um the guy the guy rips he’s he’s keeping up with mcab and and Rivier out here very well yeah very very smooth delivery mcab that’s a little low little turned and he gets a cut roll short thing about this hole though it’s short enough that he potentially could still find himself inc1 after his second shot Joe here ripping one does it stick or does it skip it does Skip and that’s not a great spot a little too far left so the door kind of open for these guys to finish strong and grab another stroke chip forehand from a cave will put him at 20 ft for his birdie yeah you can just see Joe not a lot to work with over here yeah he’s he’s trying to find something through there like how can I get like a circle two look at this right now kind of does it I’m not sure how far away that is but it’s an open bid yeah definitely runnable oh the turnover for Leo gets knocked down just a bit High out of the hand this is the benefit of being able to drive it into the ditch it is a little bit of awkward footing but there’s not really much in your way oh that almost that almost that kind of buzzed the basket yeah the good effort from FaZe still stays close maybe a little bit from Leo and the oh the what that is a cruel roll away for such a great effort off the basket R really quick to put there here is what m is left with solid good par save not the round he wanted I’m sure only four under losing quite a bit of ground to these guys we’ll see if that’s enough to keep him on the lead card for the final round or final round and a half per se here is phze to end his day 12 under what around yeah just very smooth controlled golf never really put got himself into trouble and like you said Dan made a ton of putts as did this guy Eric McCabe matches that hot round at 12 under par trying to put himself back in the mix but the story of the weekend has been this guy Joe River with another great round 10 under par fourth puts him at 35 for the tournament with 27 holes left you’s got to think he’s pretty happy with that one yeah absolutely I mean it’s it’s far from over we still got like you said 27 holes left and uh Jeff and mccab can still chase him down here from what we’ve seen let’s see what the other guys are doing out there Kale lisus Scott Conway putting down 10 downs but that’s not going to be enough to get them on the lead card so the leaders stay the same for our semi-final round we will be back over at Champions Landing for that so make sure to tune in and we will see you
