The Rolex Series returns to the DP World Tour as The Renaissance Club hosts the Genesis Scottish Open. This year is the third time this event has been co-sanctioned with the PGA TOUR as 75 players from both tours will compete. Rory McIlroy returns to defend his title and make his first appearance since his runner-up finish at the U.S. Open. McIlroy the claimed Hero Dubai Desert Classic earlier this year and was victorious in the Wells Fargo Championship on the PGA Tour in May. Since then, he hasn’t finished worse than tied 15th, which includes a tied 12th at the US PGA Championship and the solo second finish at Pinehurst. Tommy Fleetwood will also be teeing it up in Scotland. Across his last four starts in this event, the world number 11 has finished in the top ten on three occasions and missed out on victory in a play-off against Aaron Rai in 2020. He also claimed 3T at the Masters and has been no worse than a tie for 26th in his last six starts. Ludvig Åberg is in the field this week. The Swede brilliantly claimed 2T on his Masters debut in April and played well for a 12T finish at the US Open three weeks ago. Others to look out for include Xander Schauffele, Collin Morikawa and Viktor Hovland.

[Applause] 272 yards as you were saying Dom it really is an absolute beautiful day for playing hardly any Breeze at all maroy ripping that right up in the air well what a shot from Rory there very unlucky not a bad spot there chipping up the green SP ferari wouldn’t you just know it as Rory mroy Begins the defense of his just Scottish open title with a birdie at his very first hole 475 yds this uh 11th hole dog leg left to right moves uh slightly uphill that’s gone down the right with the driver from Rory flattering about that tree I think I saw that come out a little bit right there okay someone’s found it I think one of the marshals few Spectators down [Applause] there oh the club’s turn Club head’s turned right over that’s gone miles left miles left there birdie at 10 problems at 11 for meloy it how control all that stuff done this would be a real boost if we can look this one in especially starting with a birdie on the last no just trle on a little B little bit that maoy there you go 30 at 10 keeps it back at 11 he just pulled that a bit just just body stopped on it a little bit there it is front left putting up that hill that won’t be easy get this within 2 three ft a good part yeah that’s where the rust comes into play for a player you can you can practice at home and but so in a really tournament play just you just get into a rhythm go on hang on yes [Applause] that looks a good Rhythm from Rory oh bad bounce yeah it’s quite slow though oh it’s a birdie for Rory mroy so back under par I think the t-shot deserved that really hit it straight at the pin got an unlucky bounce now have you going to hit this right to left or left to right he can do either think he wants length he’ll hit it left to right he wants accuracy might go a little right to left his hand off the club doesn’t like that he’s hit it right Richard and and bunker bound well that’s a steep lip on that one AR it’s anything thin it’s going to be about 2T 4T in front of him brilliant good contact but it’s gone all right it just got a kick off the grass didn’t it well if he’s avoided a bunker he should be okay there’s a bit of green to work with the it be chipping into the wind as well which help he’s looking right here he’s G straight played it well played it very well look at that no spin look at it about the best he could do really yeah they got some bouncing on the greens this year is good to see well he’s hold a couple of good ones hasn’t he over the last few HS melroy but this is for par that is going to be another drop I’m afraid for the world number two so he birded 10 and bed 11 he’s birded the 14th and he’s given it straight back at 15 mroy back to level par high right shoulder indicates it’s a little right but is it coming back well needs a alive pretty sparse up there yet that’s okay for first in driving distance and first in tokal driving on the PJ tour that works edge of the green so it’s right of that he wants to be yeah s of that crane crane that’s the word I’m looking I knew you were looking for that word you found we found it thanks mate you know what it’s like when to get old some words you just can’t get that’s come up short forer Rory but not a problem beautifully played yeah very nice from mroy couple birdies couple of Bogies good chance to get back in the red there Jamie I’ll tell you another yard on that and that was gone and Lori maroy moves it back on the par middle of the green bit of right to left is it drawing it is it’s coming back that’s not bad it’s up just he had the eyes on it didn’t he the eyes were flicking up and down you liked it always got a chance though isn’t it oh good try there from Rory so be one under satisfactory I’d say just a Punchy little wedge in here couple of bounces and some spin I would have thought if you get the decent connection here we go one two bad there that could go in beautiful yeah lovely shot from the perfect spot great drive from Rory set it up for him birdie number four today for Rory m so he gets set to two under alongside mcart and one of two others three shots off the lead shapes from left to right you chap have been talking about 330 to a bunker on the on the left hand side but you really got to shape it left to right need some luck needs some luck he’s got it he’s got the luck got through the trees that’s fine you called that Don through the trees I don’t think he went over them there though no well he was trying to was he there’s no problem about reaching at all now it’s gone a little right oh well that could have been a lot worse couldn’t it could have gone in the bunker could have kicked right could have done anything and as it happens he’s not too bad there maroy fortunate break but you know you just look at it James there it goes down the slope onto the green round left to right nearly in in fact in and it is an eagle for mroy what a start to this uh Homewood nine birdie at the first an eagle there at three and all of a sudden Rory mroy is closing in on the leaders right up to four and Rory mroy is taking driver off the te here that’s an aggressive play yeah trying to take the bunkers out of play here on four plenty of them down there and he’s done it oh it’s a flick from there was that a go wasn’t good well maroy is on fire he’s got that to join the lead it’s a great chance isn’t it straight up the hill what a start to the back nine for Rory mroy birdie par Eagle birdie and meloy love we go you get very close to it I can’t believe you get it on well we’ll have a look that’s down the left side with Pace can’t quite see it finish there’s a wall in front of me that’s about right there you go Bey yeah 59% he is in a this year which is excellent anything over about 54 was very good yeah it just fooled him I think that I think he looked at it you were right Richard it didn’t turn that much lovely right that’s it quality with a capital Q isn’t it magnificent M to finish with a birdie oh goodness me he’s had a few of them today number 65 he won last year with 15 under it’s a good day R three weeks away from competition you’ve opened your account with a five underp pass 65 just give us your thoughts on your play today yeah um I think it was a bit of a a slow start sort of up and down I I hit a couple of shots uh over the first few holes that I I guess haven’t seen him practice over the last 10 days so um bit of a reminder that golf isn’t as easy as sometimes I think it is um but then I I really started to to feel feel good um you know hadit it especially on the on the front line or back line I started to had some good drives uh some good iron shots and um you know I give myself plenty of chances on that back nine and and actually felt like I left a couple out there as well so you know overall you know a a good start um especially after sort of the scrappy start over the first you know six or seven holes how big a sense of opportunity was there out there today in benign conditions on this course yeah it was um you know it was as uh you know as getable as you’re going to get this golf course you know it’s it’s pretty receptive from some of the rain that we’ve had at the start of the week uh you know it’s only about a club wind so you know there’s not a not a ton of wind out there and yeah you know it it was you know as you can see there’s a lot of low scores and and for good reason so you know hopefully no more rain over the next few days and the wind can get up a bit and you know hopefully the course can start to play um you know a little bit tougher you spoke yesterday about the process of getting over the disappointment of the US Open you went to Manhattan you walked The High Line you melded into the City and sort of We’re alone with your thoughts all of us go through these disappointments and highs and lows in our life has that been your process in the past to sort of take yourself away um yeah I’ve always liked to figure things out myself uh I’m not really one to reach out for advice um not to say that there was a lot of unsolicited advice coming my way but um yeah I’ve always liked to try to figure things out myself and um because then you you know for me I’ve I’ve always wanted to own it I’ve always wanted to own my success and my disappointments and I think being able to figure it out yourself and and giving yourself that time um is is a good thing I appreciate you Tom as always play well tomorrow thank you thanks to watch another DP world to video click here and to subscribe click here
