biggest changes in golf instruction particularly during my lifetime when I had lessons as a junior golfer we were often always told to recite this type of position where you kind of allow your Club to set quite low particularly say should we say beneath hip height and get the club face very vertically placed now that position has kind of gone and I suppose the reason why is that what happens when you do this is that setting the club so soon actually twist the club face really open and that’s kind of something that we don’t really want what we now tend to see in a lot of modern instruction this is something I introduced to all my students is very much the opposite feel you almost want to feel like you’re not trying to do anything with your hands and arms you just want to move to the side of your body and the more that you get your left arm closer to your chest for us right-handed golfers and that basically as long as you allow that club head to travel straight you get a club face which starts to look a lot squarer and this is key because if you can keep your arm connected to your chest in the early part of the back swing then it’s more likely to stay there and it’s more likely to stay there you start doing this type of motion it’s more likely going to go wrong so understanding the relationship of your left arm to your chest is absolutely key

  1. For me personally, it's more than just the takeaway with the upper body. I focus on my right hip turning behind me first. If I don't I get into what I call hip locked. Where my hips haven't turned enough and can't turn any further because my right hip has maxed out due to internal rotation. Getting fully turned with my right hip more behind me unlocked power and accuracy.
