today that is an excessive heat warning okay we’re right now outside it’s 91 degrees outside right now the sun is shining bright 114 degrees today tomor uh by Saturday we expect 117 as a high and on Sunday we may break a record and go to 118° here in Las Vegas so all we got to say is I’m telling you right now excessive heat warning means this stay hydrated stay hydrated stay hydrated get that water going keep the kids and the pets inside check on the elderly and anybody else that has a problem and has a difficulty with high temperatures okay it’s really important excessive heat warning we want to celebrate Fourth of July we want to wait this evening and watch this spectacular fireworks display here along the strip and all over our uh Las Vegas Valley and just to have a good time and be got a heat pocket that’s going through the uh the good old USFA Phoenix Arizona is going to be 115 today and uh other places uh you got Oklahoma City 100 so what I’m saying is the the Heat’s going to be a problem all all through all throughout the country today and also remember that when you’re watching the races the race tracks respectively today that they’re going to be short uh post parades short uh post times or post parades because they’re going to go right from The Paddock not warm up a lot and just get right to the Starting Gate and on its way so remember that you’re going to have short post parades today that’s for sure uh we also have to just mention the fact that that terrible tornado that’s going through uh the uh the Caribbean right now is going to make its way to the southern part of Texas and the north U northeastern part of Mexico by the time it gets going it’s a big I mean it’s it’s a very dangerous hurricane that’s going through there so our thoughts go out to those folks there and of course it will uh probably affect uh some racing or certainly uh some portions of South Texas so we keep our eye on the uh big hurricane that’s going through there finally we want to celebrate uh Independence Day that’s for sure we want to remember the folks that declared our independence and the folks that uh you know out there that keep us safe today and every day here in our great country uh and uh we would like to just celebrate and and not have anything to worry about but just celebrating today but we do have some sad news to bring you uh trainer David Hoffman a trainer from Southern California who enjoyed success as a trainer with uh winning the Breeders Cup Classic in 1996 with Alpha bet soup that defeated the great cigar at the time up at Woodbine Racecourse and of course had such outstanding Runners as touch gold who won the Belmont Stakes and awesome again uh they found David Hoffman’s uh dead in his car at his home yesterday morning about uh we got the news about two hours after our show completed uh the initial report said it was suicide so we’ll just leave it at that but we want to uh pass along our sympathies and our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of David Hoffman who took his life yesterday in Southern California all right now it’s time to get to some news uh as far as all the other stuff is concerned and and the weather outside all of the high temperatures you got a lot of uh rain and action going on through Iowa Illinois and Indiana keep that in mind for the racing there today as far as New York is concerned the track will be fast curve courses will be firm the weather is great in New York as well as in Southern California and one other piece of news to give you and of course that piece of news is Eva alvast Star now she was a great at Stakes Winner uh was euthanized yesterday after a fatal workout so Al Alpha star was used in the eyes as well so some uh some good news and some bad news and that’s just the way life goes and and we’re just reporting to you balanced as it is the news good and bad here on the race day show all right we got a lot to cover today we got Jonathan ardun back with us happening today 4th of July there are only four stakes races around the country but tomorrow Friday we kick it up to eight stakes races around the country and then Saturday there’ll be 29 stakes races around the country on a big Saturday of stakes racing there and of course on Sunday uh we’ll also feature 12 more stakes races to wrap up the weekend so we’re kind of rolling in starting slow and then ending big that’s for sure but uh for today we got four stakes races so let’s get started with your racing menu uh reminding you that the first post times are broadcast on the show each and every day reflect that to the Pacific time zone if you’re in it no problem like they are here at the South Point in the race book here we are in the Pacific time zone these will be the first post times rolling track is fast Turf courses are firm which means the outer Turf course will host races 6 and N the inner Turf course will host races three and seven uh today at uh aqueduck couple of stakes races today the first Stakes race comes early it’s the third race on the card the $150,000 perfect sting Stakes at a mile on the inner Turf course for philes and marage three-year-olds and up in that third race we have three late scratches scratch the Six movie Moxy and then you scratch the seven buston Bay and you scratch the eight Royal poppy so in that race a field of eight is now a field of five scratch uh the New York Racing Association is going to have in the winter racing when Belmont Park re uh reopens in 26 after all their big remodeling in 2026 all racing in the wintertime on their racetracks in New York will now be on the synthetic footing branded tapa and they are getting slammed for It Ralph nobody is happy about it everybody’s complaining you know let’s see what happens obviously they don’t see what happened to Gulfstream sandal you know Gulfstream brought in topa to use as a backup when races rain off the grass now they have more races on topa every day than they do on the dirt or the turf so their handle is down and they had more racing days this meet and more races and everything else and the handle was still down that’s because they ran majority of their races on topa people don’t like it people in New York certainly don’t like it so let’s see what happens you have more news from naira today Ralph naira and TVG have gotten a divorce by the way this this does not apply to uh New Jersey bets New Jersey bets they will still be taking naira however TVG FanDuel no more naira and it’s amazing how they decide to come up with this idea a week before Saratoga opens this this just can’t be good for anybody I mean people are going to be pissed off I know it doesn’t affect people in Vegas but we have worldwide listeners and if you’re going to go today and try to bet the early Pig five at uh Aqueduct it’s not there so uh this was sprung on everybody just about an hour or so ago and uh it’s a miss all right now we want to I want to uh you know make it crystal clear that that has nothing to do with going on here in Las Vegas Nevada because we have our own um uh you know uh off track system as far as betting on apps okay that doesn’t affect here nor does it affect our book here if you want to come in and play the races New York races today it doesn’t affect any other betting platforms except for the betting platform uh that TVG has TVG and FanDuel is where where this um this is happening this this this divorce as you say is happening between TVG and FanDuel and its beding operations and its TV coverage and the New York Racing Association correct correct you cannot watch a naira race on TVG again this has nothing to do with New Jersey bets right but uh you know this has to do with everyone else that’s involved with TVG so just so you should know don’t be surprised when you go there and try to play today they’re not taking any bets I hope they resolve this but who knows and again the timing is just horrible yes uh and I also want to remind everybody also that uh you can watch uh I know that FanDuel has a cable network out there but you can watch the New York Racing on uh the U the fox networks right their Sports networks yes Fox yes yes that’s the naira bet you know they want everyone I guess to move to naira bets or or Express beted or whatever right right but all right so we we now we Now understand that you got to go to uh the fox to watch the races if you don’t have any other services uh specific services and uh the go to nirra bets I guess if you want to make the bets actually through their betting mechanism that’s for sure oh boy it’s never a don’t WHYY for the players they just do nothing I don’t know you got something going on are you moving something down there because we’re getting like you okay yeah everything all right there yeah I’m fine okay I moved the paper I’m sorry yeah yeah that you must have done it over your speaker or something anyhow uh um want to just remind everybody about that it only affects uh sprinting on the outer Turf course and I like the number four horse in here Outlaw kid I like the ride to switch to flavan Pratt I like to stretch out to six fongs from five and a half this horse has two races over this course with a one and a third um again 5 to one on the morning line number four Outlaw kid upsets and wins today sixth race out at Belmont Park all right sixth race at Belmont six furlongs on the outer Turf course you like the four Outlaw kid with the flavi and Pratt aboard number four in the sixth race today at Belmont at aqueduck and let’s go to Mammoth and this is a Turf only selection there are chances of thunder showers so make sure the race remains on the grass and look at the third race today it’s a mile and a 16th on the turf and I like the number one horse in here anador five-year-old mayor from The Mike Denny Barn hyro Randon AB board to ride uh this horse makes her second start at Mammoth second start back off of a layoff has the advantage of breaking from the Hedge nine to2 on the morning line number one anador wins today’s third race out at mammouth Park all right we got mammouth Park from the shores of New Jersey third race on the card it’s only for Turf only if it comes off the turf it’s a no play but right now it is on the turf so in the third race number one anador with uh Mr brenon aboard anador 9-2 is the uh your pick at Monmouth Park in around here yeah not even a question about that that’s for sure but uh you know we’re talking about uh your uh final four days of racing today tomorrow Saturday and Sunday to wrap up the 4th of July weekend and the big race that you guys got is the grade two uh great lady M state it’s obviously a $200,000 race and it’s at 6 and2 furlongs and you got a field a full field 10 horses are going to go in that grade grade two yeah it’s came up really strong it’s a 10 10 horse field we have two grade one winners in there sweet AZ tekka and Daddy’s Ruby they figur to be the betting choice of sweet asz tekka you know she hasn’t been out since she beat a d Manor who’s a multiple graded Stakes Winner in the beholder mile earlier this year trained very well for Michael McCarthy and Juan Hernandez who’s the alltime leader here in Stakes wins will be aboard her and then Daddy’s Ruby is making her first start since March when she was a second in the stakes at oaklan Park and rayu Gutierrez who’s decided to come out to California and try it this circuit again he’s riding the last few days at this meet and then it’ll start at delmare so he’s going to try to make it out in California he has the mount on Daddy’s Ruby for Peter Miller yeah it’s going to be an exciting race I think that’s for sure a full field to going six and a half furlongs and that long long stretch to decide the winner that’s for sure uh Bob before we get to your selection today at Lo I’m sorry you want to mention something no I was going to say you’re right that’s going to be a heck of a race it wraps up the card on Saturday and that’s a great card on Saturday it’s our best card of the meet we have a lot of full fields on Saturday so should make some great betting opportunities oh fantastic that’s that’s going to be great Saturday racing there at losal and of course on Sunday mandatory payoffs and all the pools if there are any carryovers Etc before we get your picks though we have to mention the uh the shocking news in Southern California about Dave Hoffman’s I know that he was you know he based out of Southern California and had a lot of success in Southern California and I know you cover Southern California so I just wanted to get a thought or two about Dave Hoffman’s from you yeah it was very very shocking news to hear yesterday and uh my condolences to his family and uh during these tough times but no he was a very good man uh very easy to talk to had a lot of success as you mentioned you know he trained touch gold who you know thwarted silver charms a Triple Crown bit in the Belmont he also trained awesome again who is a very very good Stakes Winner alphabet soup who upset cigar in the Breeders Cup in Woodbine back in 96 so very good trainer very nice man very easy to talk to so again it’s very very sad news yeah it is that’s for sure we’ll leave it at that and of course our sympathies go out to his family uh we will now go to a selection I am going to go to the uh eighth race on the card today I like a firsttime starter for Mark clatt named Garden Party number four I don’t think the field is all that great she’s trained pretty well well enough to win a race at this level the horses that have run before aren’t anything special we had a first- timer win the last race here on Sunday named AZ Wildcat who I thought was very impressive so first- timers do win here so I’m going to go to that horse in race eight number four garden party all right in the uh eighth race today number four garden party with Miss Mr sadoo aboard at 9:00 to2 on the morning line at uh Bob’s pick for the race day listeners but that’s the eighth race his selection there but you do a full sheet uh for Southern California you cover Southern California racing all the time so we can they uh just taking a look at some of the entries and the big stakes races over the weekend in the Brooklyn handicap you got seven going in that race next will be the favorite in that one in the Delaware Oaks they’ll be seven going with power squeeze as the favorite Indiana Derby has eight andon hold if you remember in Sanita Derby and the Kentucky Derby comes back for Phil damato and EJ won the cup with Doug O’Neal so those two Southern California trainers have the first and second favorites in the Indiana Derby in the Indiana Oaks you have eight going there before scratches and as I said uh impel is in that race and so is chatalas in that race for Brad Cox and pel and then in the Iowa Derby there’ll be 11 going in there the favorite there is just a touch also trained by Brad Cox in the Iowa Oaks you have six going in that one these are all before scratches obviously impel is also the favorite in that race but we know it’s cross entered so wait uh which race impel goes in for Brad Cox the corn husk are a big handicap stakes races over the weekend at Prairie Meadows will have 11 in it the favorite is red route one with Steve S muen and hit show with the Brad Cox the Robert G dick Memorial uh nine go in that at Delaware Park where nine are in the race and warlike goddess for Bill m is the favorite in that one the Delaware handicap has eight in it and the favorite there is wet paint for Brad Cox and coming up uh soon is the Belmont Derby the Invitational Derby where endlessly will finally get back on the grass now there’s only five horses going in the in the Belmont Derby at Belmont at aqueduck and galphin has of course Legend of time in that race so it should be a Throwdown between those two horses there is some of the top horses that’ll be running this weekend I should start out by your thoughts about uh the passing of uh David Hoffman well I did have a chance to uh meet and know David Hoffman one from my three years as the pr director at Sanita and secondly uh when I was doing uh my researcher work for ABC Sports and ESPN doing the the triple crown and three-year-old races uh David had touch gold and we covered that event for the Belmont Stakes for ABC and I believe touch gold stopped the Triple Crown efforts of Silver Charm that year yep the thing about David he was anyone who met David Hopkins knows what a genuinely nice uh man that he was and it’s just very sad news very sad to hear yeah that’s for sure all right well we have uh Fourth of July celebration going on here in Las Vegas as you know every time we get that 4-day weekend Happening Here we get about uh between 350,000 and 380,000 of our closest friends come out and enjoy the big weekend here in Las Vegas and such is the case want to remind everybody out there though they’re under excessive heat warning so stay hydrated out there if you’re out and about on the Strip today in Las Vegas everybody should be in the nice cool race book with the enjoying the races and enough speed to really set up a a late charge by madoo in the lane so let’s go with number six chrisy tiger in the fifth race at loel okay fifth race at losal which is of course the anchor race and the only pick five they have there at losal in the first five races also the anchor of the early pick four that fifth race number six chrisy tiger with Edwin Maldonado who is right there up on the else in the good old USFA today we’re in a good spot here it’ll probably be we might get to the 80 degree Mark but uh we’ll be just fine good day for barbecuing that’s for sure and of course uh we have um a small sampling of the Jockey standings at Los Alamitos and at Belmont at Aqueduct so we’ll go to Belmont at Aqueduct first now that’s uh you know that meat’s been going a little bit longer in a few more days then obviously Los Al has but uh the latest on the jockey standings at Lo at Belmont at aqueduck well Manny Frank is going to be your leading Rider he’s got 34 wins going into closing weekend IAT Ortiz is second with 23 uh Dylan Davis won four races Sunday so he’s now tied for third with flavian Pratt and Jose locano they’ve each got 20 wins all right favorites a little high there isn’t it 41% for that Aqueduct me man oh man of course that’s on the days when they were rained out with the turf races and you had two and four horse Fields you know so we’ll give him a little bit of a pass on that it is amazing though that irat is in second place with 23 Manny Franco of course been riding at Belmont and aqueduck throughout the season but I read was going in and out between their Churchill Downs and other uh you know uh tracks on the weekend where there’s big races and and racing assignments there so it’s kind of amazing that ir’s even in second place there with the racing at Belmont at Aqueduct uh not exclusively but uh just half half the time exactly and flavy and PR same thing they did a lot of traveling during the spring so the guys that stay home the whole time guys like Manny Franco they took advantage of it and they they and Manny’s had a terrific meet why don’t we get our uh since folks are looking at aqueduck Belmont at Aqueduct why don’t get the our pick at Belmont at aqueduck out of the way first okay let’s go right to the open our first race today number five Italian Suare firsttime starter for uh this is a horse that cost $600,000 in March breed top and bottom for the grass related to two multiple grass winners a lot of speed out of the gateworks that I’ve seen uh five furlongs ought to be just perfect here come out of the gate and hit the ground running 7 to2 on the there two late scratches in here number three Gaya Gaya Brazil number four honesty that’ll cut the price a little bit but I still think you know five to two or more number five Italian Suare race one Belmont at Aqueduct and you got that man flavian Pratt aboard as well this is a maiden race for twoyear olds at 5 and a half furlongs the post time for the first race and this pick at Belmont at aqueduck is 105 a.m. Pacific Time first race number five is John’s pick at moded aqueduck now we go to Lo Alamitos and again we’ll get the update on the jockey trainer standings there as far as the jocks go Kyle Frey’s a leading Rider he’s got five winners Edward Maldonado has four and Edgar p is having a good meet he’s got three as far as the trainers go you know Sergio morphine might want to take a picture of this he’s a leading trainer with four wins he’s ahead of Bob bafford Steve nap and orge parabon and Doug O’Neal they’ve all got three so right now one of the L salametto based guys Sergio Morphin leading the trainer standings those salaminos well it’s always nice to race in your own backyard where you know all the idiosyncrasies about that racetrack that’s for sure glad to see a newcomer and a and a local there on top of the trainer standings going into the final four days and if you thought the favorites at 41% was a little high at Belmont at Aqueduct should I even ask about L alaminos well the favorites dipped after the first week at 55% they’re now at 44% for the meat at Los salaminos well I can tell you one thing folks you there and of course the total mutuals that’s what folks really go by well if you put $2 to win on every one of those horses you’d had a flat bre profit Co total mutuals total $746 so uh you you can’t take what they’re not giv yet loell and and John you you’ve got had a pretty good eye on what they’re giving you well you grind away and try and find a price here and there when you can and keep cashing tickets and and uh so far so good all right well we’ll get your pick at Los Alamitos let’s go to race number four at Los Alamitos in the fourth race number number five and ready to rumble ran well in his only Sprint uh comes off a route race last fall Lasix on Cuts back to the uh the Sprint the last race was a Grade Three race where endlessly was the winner on the turf so that was an awful good field and I just think back in with maidens he should handle this firm dirt course here uh Peter Miller the trainer has three horses in the race this is the one I think is live number five and ready to rumble 7even to2 on the program race four Lo Salam all right so we got two Singletons in the early uh pick four and uh the only pick five of the day in the fourth race you like the five Richie likes the six and the fifth race so we’ll see what we can do there to maybe catch a pick four or pick five early in the day your pick number five in the fourth race uh a quick thought John about uh Dave Hoffman yeah sad day for me yesterday Dave a terrific guy a very kind man and you we know he was a great trainer the job he did with uh U you know touch gold in 1997 winning winning the Belmont after that rough trip in the pness but he also did a lot of stuff off the track Ralph helped with scholarships for backstretch children with the Eddie Gregson Foundation got a lot of guys started in this business a really nice man and uh I’m going to miss him quite a bit yeah uh sad sad ending there but uh you never know what people are going through that’s for sure but our sympathies and our thoughts go out to his family that’s for sure and for all of you out there around the country uh this is our Independence Day when we declared America America for us so uh enjoy yourself out
