THE BEST VALUE GOLF BALL // Comparing the Kirkland Signature 3.0 vs Titleist Pro V1x

Today, Ian and Mikey take a deep dive into the notorious Costco Golf Ball. Directly comparing the new version to the Titleist Pro V1x, Ian and Mikey look to solve the question: Is Costco’s Kirkland golf ball preform just as good as the Titleist? For less than half the price per ball no less.

that good as well those last couple sounded really good yeah solid about as good as I can hit them just about okay guys welcome back to the channel so today we have a head-to-head in the golf ball comparison best ball in golf versus the best value ball in golf I like it 3.0 a said golf ball see you can’t ignore the value that $35 a dozen for 24 balls you know and I just think about it as if I’m going if I’m a parent right right now and I’m the summer holidays are coming up and you’re sending your kid off to the you know to the golf club every day or whatever yeah I couldn’t probably make an argument why I wouldn’t invest in two boxes of those or four a dozen of those and you know little Jimmy or Little Sally has has the golf balls sorted for the for the year hard to argue why you you wouldn’t do that yeah it’s a you know three-piece ball that you know will obviously do the test that’s you know highly regarded in a way like I know a lot of people that play them and the quality is again you’ll see is is is decent so um yeah for for anyone in that camp totally you should be yeah you should you should get a couple dozen why not definitely so we obviously that’s what you say the best versus the best value because we’re not expecting the Kirkland to be up there in every category where a tit would be that would be that’ be crazy but if there’s a drop off what is the drop off is it enough to be concerned about the drop off now if if you’re the type of person who just wants to play the best you’re going to be in a he list a Callaway a tail made a brid stone totally that’s how shcks on obviously amazing you’re going to be in one of those but if you’re prepared to take a a little drop in performance for for that value price point there’s going to be options and and this should be one of them really nowadays okay let’s dive into doing some wedge testing usual format likey we’ll do a 60° 50 yard we’ll do a wedge a seven and a driver okay all right fries 50 yard shot here okay little 50 yard shot 8500 spin to start we were talking about that earlier on when we were doing the wedges Kirkland wedges and they were averaging like high sevens and I felt that was a bit light that’s probably a good example right there that is a bit light nice and easy whole hum shots I can try and find the middle of the face at some point this is a test of how to hit it good without B in the middle of the face is that what we should call this video okay it felt better that one to be honest sounded better [Music] toy sounded better it was pretty solid we still a bit toy that’s a nice swing last two strikes sounded better yeah they getting there even that one’s a bit more middled yeah those are nice flights that completely different sound eh with prov1x prov1x ridiculous how different yeah like a I don’t know louder ther yeah yeah it was good yeah definitely so a bit bit of a crack to that one we’re getting right or left today take your pick great strike we bit thin but it’ll do he Fri into the seven iron thoughts of 60° wedge shots anything stand out to you right right away they probably when next just feeling a bit firmer that four piece versus the three-piece Kirkland uh I think from a performance standpoint we’re trying to pick we know the pro1 x is the most played ball that is that is the that’s why this test is not the three piece versus the three-piece we could have done that and but we chose not to um but I think the the three-piece softer Prov would be more similar to the Kirkland or Kirkland would be more similar to the Prov right okay so but so far i’ can’t say I dislike the Kirkland I’ll be honest good right it’s a nice nice flight flight and strike so different with that prov1 X in what way like more controlled I I find that like Kirkland one when it hits the ground like like there’s it just looks like it doesn’t want to stay as tight to the pin your ball flight with the prov1x looks so much cleaner too and maybe it’s just a sound thing to be honest with you yeah yeah that’s true so can definitely influence your thoughts on stuff like that I think great strike speed in that one yeah that was better okay FES into the uh into the big dog what are you expecting to see ball to ball here with driver well when we tested the the full lineup of the Kirkland clubs with the Kirkland ball my driver came out quite low yeah low and kind of knuckly yeah so I’m not sure maybe we’ll see we’ll see a bit better flight off the Prov 1X okay but we’ll start with Kirkland see if we get the same [Music] it’s I thought it sounded quite good but a low toe yeah yeah it felt good I’ve got the weight a little bit in the toe maybe that’s why it felt quite good that good as well those last couple sounded really good yeah solid about as good as I can hit them just about yeah I mean Kirkland performed I’d say better there than it did in the in the previous test previous test he didn’t get as knuckly as what we saw yeah that’s my ideal shape there maybe that’s a bit low in spin but let’s go straight though 18 18 and change 17 and change okay it’s quick though that ball speeds nuts all right Michael 60° shot or 50 50 yard shot should I say with the 60° I think that the Costco ball is a little bit softer MH maybe that’s where the launching and spin is coming from there been a fraction sof than the cover um than the the Pro X cover but very much what I’d expect from both and yeah standard deviation excellent same same pretty much p and wedge again same same pick them out I mean slightly higher ball flight with the prov1x but other than that identical interesting same same kind of the same no well we’re seeing some subtle differences like Pro X tends to be in that higher window every time um launch spin is is a bit less speed is a bit more so like we said at the start like if if if you want to maximize performance if you want to eek out every little percentage point I do mhm but maybe that’s you know wearing a slightly different position than others caring that much that an degree we live and die by every single detail but I can see why lots of people go like deal yeah yeah interesting comes to the driver yeah a bit quicker let’s see Club yeah the ball speed jump was good yeah yeah a little bit more efficient with prov1x just a touch ball speed one is that’s a big difference yeah and I would have probably expected to see about that um I like the launch conditions off the the the Costco ball to be honest 293 yeah you could probably argue face a little open is is kind of causing a little bit of a ball speed loss versus versus that yeah across the board you can see prov1x for me is just about optimized in every every category right wedge um partial wedge wedge seven iron driver this is about maxing out in performance but Kirkland is given a real good goal which is why we’re saying it’s the best value golf ball 100% two dozen balls for half price yeah half price I mean it’s it’s nuts um but it’s yeah it’s a good good performing golf ball there’s nothing wrong with it whatsoever no no it’s good and to be honest hitting a bunch of wedges and different things there durability seems to be pretty decent you guys tell us is if that’s an issue you know those of you who have played it would love to hear it but you know it’s it’s a viable option for those of you who you know golf balls are just getting a little Beyond palatable yeah they are the price is is getting there when you lose one in the in the bush and it’s not a dollar anymore it’s absolutely $4.50 a ball it it gets especially especially when the uh the time limit in terms of how long you’ve got to look for them now is 3 minutes yeah exactly that makes it a little bit more difficult losing two minutes good point so um yeah speed of play would the speed of play increase if everyone used a cheaper golf ball probably it might do for sure it might do all right guys uh let us know your thoughts I’d be really curious as to what you think um about a test like this depending on who you think I mean c make an incredible golf ball obviously tell me do as well like we said Bridgestone restriction the top the top companies when it comes to go golf ball manufa facturing I feel like we could have thrown all of them in there and there would have been a somewhat similar you know result in terms of the the Costco ball being not that far away yeah percentage points away great point it’s good stuff all right let us know in the comments Below guys is this something you’ve tried is it something youd now consider would love to hear your thoughts and opinion this is version three of the Costco ball have you played one and two has three improved has it gotten a little bit better in which ways love to hear your thoughts on it so uh let us know below stay stay tuned for more and we’ll see again soon [Music]

  1. This is why you guys are the best and my go to for true data based info. I found the previous version of KSig (V2) to be shorter than I would have liked off the tee – perhaps worth a stop in at Costco on the way home to pick up 2 doz of the V3 to try. The wife asked me to stop in for a chicken anyways!! LOL.

  2. Fellow content creator golf ball addict on YT breaks down the true value king of golf balls for the average golfed to the Nth degree, akin to what you boys do with golf clubs. Would love to see comparison data as he actually believes Kirkland balls to be over rated.

  3. In my 27 year if golfing. This is my take on golf balls.
If you shoot 110+ on 18 holes – use cheapest balls. Nitro
@100 to 110 use a slightly better ball- true feel ( or equivalent)
@ 80 to 99 – use kirkland or mid lv vice.
@79 or better use the best premium ball that suits you. Prov1 prov1x tp5 chrome tour and so on.

  4. So, unless you’re scratch and swing the driver at 115mph it’s really dumb to spend more for ProV1. Got it…knew that 5 years ago when I’d hit the occasional ProV I’d find and see and feel no difference.

  5. We need to see you hit a few trees with them and see how they hold up. Durability has always been the knock on the cheap models

  6. Good review. The reality is you're getting damn near ProV performance for Taylor Made Distance money. Cheaper than Srixon Soft Feel etc

  7. Surprised how well the ksig performed😮 prior generations seemed to fly a bit short for me

  8. Great review. As a new golfer it makes me feel like the Kirkland ball is right for me (no matter what my buddies say)!

  9. I've been playing the Chrome Soft lately and really like it. I'm a 14hc with average driver distance of 245ish. I was given a dozen Kirkland Performance+ balls and played them my last round. This was my experience. I was seeing well struck drives only go 215-220 total. One perfectly struck drive, which would go 265-270 with the Callaway, rolled out to 235. Flight was lower than I'm used to and I think they were spinning quite a bit. All my irons were about 10yrds shorter than I'm used to. Even wedges which I thought was pretty strange. Needless to say, I really didn't like this ball. At the end of the round, I just left the 11 I had left in the cart. Hopefully someone who likes them found them and it made their day. I dont mind paying extra if I see value in it. The Callaway ball, to me at least, is definitely worth the extra cost.

  10. I play Srixon Zstars for one reason over the other “big boys”. It’s the 2 for 1 deal for Father’s Day. Stock up a reasonable price and a ball as good as it gets.

  11. Not too sure about Mikey's comment "the flight looks cleaner" with Pro V1 – there IS NO ball flight, it's just a simulator! C'mon man! Haha.

  12. I feel like with the prov1x you can shoot the course record. i feel like for the costco ball you can still have a good time.

  13. Prov1x at (canada) 73$ per dozen vs Kirkland at 22$ per dozen. You have like 95% of the perf for 30% of the price. I think the choice is simple for the super vast majority of golfers.

  14. I would much prefer to see a real golf brand referred to as best value ball. Pick a Srixon or Bridgestone or Mizuno or Maxfli or Vice. No way I am ever touching a Kirkland

  15. Not sure where you guys are getting you prices, but the kirkland is 3 to almost 4 times cheaper than a ProV1 or ProV1x. My local Costco has them for $27 for 24 balls. And has tons of stock every time I go. 90% of golfers will notice zero difference in their games with the Kirkland over the ridiculously overpriced so-called Premium balls.

  16. I have heard that Kirks are higher spin. I feel like they get a little more off-line than other brands, but not sure if it’s a placebo effect since I’m thinking about it. I still game them half the time

  17. For 25% of the price (2 dz for $27 vs. 1 dz for $54) this is well worth it for 90% of the golfers out there. Great test as this was much closer than I was expecting going in.

  18. In a wet UK summer with knee high dense rough full of deer ticks I can easily lose 6 balls a round, guess which ball I use?

  19. My 3 favorite golf balls ranked in order: 1. Maxfli tour X; 2. Wilson Triad; 3. Kirkland Signature. Pro V1 and Pro V1x are great golf balls – I just won't pay that kind of money for the tiny difference in performance (and actually, I don't perceive any difference in performance between the Maxfli Tour X and the Pro V1x.)

  20. Ive literally just had my 1st round with the kirky and im impressed..
didnt spin alot on short greenside chips but other than that i like it.

  21. I love the Kirkland ball! With 96% of the performance at less than 25% of the cost you can't go wrong. It definitely speeds up my play! Also performs very well for me off the tee as well as around the greens. I've tried most of the balls recommended for mid to high handicap players (I'm currently 20+) and the only one that comes close to the Kirkland is the Bridgestone e12 and that one is still twice the cost of the Kirkland with basically the same performance and feel. If you haven't, give them a try…

  22. I managed to play 27 holes with the same Kirkland ball before I noticed a fairly long cut mark. it almost looked like a crack in the cover stock. Still no complaints though.

  23. Ian or Mikey, what’s your thoughts on websites like halfpricedgolfballs and buying 5A used balls over brand new balls?

  24. Peter Kirk would be proud. (Kirkland Washington was named after him, and Costco names their products after the city where their initial headquarters were located)

  25. I would love a company comparison too! TaylorMade TP5 vs their Distance and response balls. Titleist Pro V1 vs Tour Soft and Velocity 👀

  26. Tested the durability of the Kirkland in my simulator. It lasted about 800 shots (mixed wedges, irons, driver) before it split open. Not bad for the price
