and the means test thanks to the Magnificent Jamerson Irish whiskey gather around David King good morning do it properly do it properly good morning morning no how get involved don’t be like that great to work with you and we always miss G when he has a bit of time off but uh well deserved we’ll do our own little version of it slightly different today I I will uh I assume but plenty to work with a lot to work with and a lot of things that I think personally you and I will disagree on which is good good healthy debate and I’m sure the listeners will be the same but we always start with the Gambit yes the king’s Gambit uh don’t know why we do but we do it’s for Victoria Police by the way Made for More search police careers okay well I just think what what’s the what’s the front the lead bike called in the tour to France the guy that’s way out in front what’s he called oh it’s a breakaway the Breakaway y it’s hard in the AFL to have a breakaway um hold for the season and my man Maxi Lorton was telling me last night that in the 18 team AFL era only three of 12 at the conclusion of round 11 have gone on to win the flag so that’s we’re a long way from round 11 I get it we’re around 17 the law of laon the laon’s law yeah uh so Collingwood in 23 Melbourne in 21 and West Coast in 2018 but consider the margins like col won well Four Points the West Coast won at the death and mbour were were trailing what was it star of the third third quarter y um so that so incredibly close Grand finals but that that’s an an alarming number and it takes me to when you look at the Sydney Swans what’s happening there and not necessarily they’ve dropped a great deal they’re only subtle moves but it’s more what every team’s doing against them now and this is why it’s so hard to be dominant for 24 weeks you’re going to have a dip and maybe that maybe this is their dip as minor as it is maybe this is their dip but I had to look at a view to the finals and I think the only way we can really assess teams credibility is against the best is against those in the top eight because to win the Grand Final you’re going to have to win three in a row against the best teams in the comp so how many teams have actually won three in a row this year against top eight teams so Sydney are six- one and they’ve won six in a row against top eight teams we all we’ve all ticked them off as as credible Caron have won three in a row twice against top eight teams Brisbane fre hour and Giants start of the Season round four in round six and then they beat Port out Giants round 12 13 and 15 so they’ve done it gws haven’t done it cing w are interesting they’ve gone they beat Brisbane Port Adelaide had a draw against Des they beat Carlton and then had a draw against Frio so you probably got to tick that offers they’re capable but they’re not even in the eight jalong haven’t done it Port Adela have done it against as and Freo and Jong rounds four five and n and none of the rest have Brisbane one and four against top eight teams Melbourne two and five 302 and three so it is so hard to qualify where every team is at um and give given that fact I think that you just have to you just have to look at Sydney and say well maybe it’s at the point where teams have to play oneoff games now against Sydney playing a different way than they want to play so it used to be this is how we play Let’s go this is how you play Let’s see what wins oil and water let’s see who wins I think now it’s it’s at stage where Sydney have been so good that everyone’s trying new method starve them of the footy uncontested marks um don’t allow if you allow them to chip the ball around the ball and play an uncontested game inevitably it finds its way back to one of Gorden Warner orini and you’re in trouble the magic makers just get it on the scoreboard so it’s it’s just a a fascinating watch they’ve lost two in a row the the the swanes and we’re probably all sitting back to say okay is this just a blip they been nest of of of losses they’ve lost three games by a combined total of eight points yeah yeah I mean 52 and one so I mean James drops the text just while you’re talking the midfield if the swans mids James says all don’t hit the scoreboard multiple times they can’t win the forward line cannot carry them to a grand final even when amarti kicks nine they only just scored over a 100 so that’s um James pointing to a potentially a fragile front six but uh did you ever watch did you ever watch Wayne’s did you ever watch Wayne’s World Way world I would have I was watching Sydney and I was watching car and I was taken I was taken to Wayne’s World game on game on cuz it is game on game on they’re not on a teer in a tier on their own anymore are they Sydney where do you have them are they the are they the clear first seed still well the stuff that we’ll get to my man H and IR track um setings to come so we did the core for right with the footy without the footy contest and clearance oh so the contest is outside of clearance they’re 2 1 2 and six it’s as good a profile as you’ll see really there’s nothing wrong with how they’re playing but it is changing it is changing with the way the teams are starving him with the footy so do they need to change well this is the this is the thing I still feel like John Longmire would have known this point was coming where teams are going to alter the way they they do things against them and he just have something in his back pocket ready to shift and clearly there’s some Talent shifting in there as well with Mills and potentially Parker to come back in as well we’re going to have we’re probably going to have a look at them we’ll get to this in a moment we might have a look at them without Heeney for for a week maybe two um and and that’ll be a different mix a different look but they’re still pretty well stacked aren’t they they are indeed joh John lar was asked the question last night around alarm Bells he said alarm bells are a bit drastic at this stage so Isaac is our big issue this morning um by the way the king’s gamb but looking for a career that gives you more search police careers Victoria Police Made for More Isaac Heeney so a fantastic player obviously I mean at one stage he was the overwhelming favorite KY for the brown low and his form has been more solid than spectacular of late but he’s in the pointy end of every Brown L Market that you care to find he’s also a very fair player I think but if the league are fair are faired incam then he’s being suspended for this is he is he not well I don’t see he given the rule change at the start of the season I don’t see how he can get off as just setting aside the fact that I believe that is always an inherent um view to look after Brown low metal cap capabilities uh like hany and Patrick Crips a couple years ago look after uh well Zack BS at the start of the year yeah I I do think that if there’s an out it’s taken more often than not now that’s that’s just my cynical view um but if you if you’re if you’re putting a video to the wording of this rule change this is the video this is this this is the memo that went on on February 6th this year the the for lack of a better phrase the Charlie Ballard rule from last year and it said the memo to Club said in instances where a player intends to forcefully push or fend an opposition player off the ball including to gain separation for the purpose of contesting the ball and the effect is that that player strikes their opponent that strike will usually be graded as intentional rather than careless so you run it through let’s say it is intentional it is high contact given the bloody schnos of course and even low impact that that’s a weak suspension for for Isaac would would you be comfortable with that I mean you’d think it would be cited that way later on by the mro and then it would be up to Sydney I’m sure to take it to the tribun so Jesse Hogan got off his at the start of at what midpoint of the Season yeah but yes he did and he he he they will claim that his is very similar to this yeah but the medical report would say otherwise wouldn’t it so Lewis young a fly would have made more contact on the I mean he missed him whereas this player has gone off with blood pouring out of the out of the beach yeah I I understand but I just I’m looking for ways that they could manufacture an outcome and Zack BS you’re right got off at the again these are all the tribunals this is why Sydney are going to go to the Tribunal for sure if it if it runs runs its course that was for striking Tom Green but again looking back on that this looks like more solid contact than both of those does it does it’s it’s and you could sense straight away that he knew that he’d hit him hard and was almost trying to catch him he apologized while leading yeah whilst whilst the blood was pouring out his no sorry about that sorry mate let me take this I’m off to grab the footy Shades a George Bush now watch this drive watch me kick this goal to just to keep you a bit would have been better if he had the audio to be fair um that was it was bizarre cuz then he kicked the next two didn’t he he did he went back the next one was a little dodg dicey as well the free kick as well so yeah it um um was telling the text machine is is lighting up here in 134 a spot on it says the key word is usually Y and that that’s where the gray area is is there’s some there’s some room to move there isn’t there well okay so if it’s careless medium impact and high it’s a match if it’s careless low impact and high it’s um a fine that’s what that’s see this is where I sit I think they’ll work their way back to that eventually it may it may get a wig today and then on appeel they’re going to the tribunal yeah go to the tribunal and then we we’ll work our way back to there C Mills was listed as a week away so it might well be that he returns this week anyway and it’s um it’s one out and one in he’ll getting some feedback here Sam it’s the means Test please stick to the structure did we not well I’m just passing on the information the big issue this is the structure as laid out so when Tuesday night where do we sit what’s the outcome I think he serves a week suspension okay but you would not say that with any great certainty the best bits were the team that the swans came up against and fell victim to the Saints a beautiful call I think from Kathy or Matas philippo he was at the heart of a lot of it but gez you had to admire what the Saints did yesterday yeah I I was wrapped with the way they played they been under a fair bit of heat over the last week or so no Max King obviously so everyone had to step up and do that that little bit more and um I I know that the way that they’ve played played has been um under immense scrutiny has it been too safe is it daring enough all those sorts of things but the the missing Gap had just been had been a forward being able to light up a forward being able to to to finish the deal with the ball movement to to to to to ensure that that the the Counterattack game got on the scoreboard I thought Higgins was terrific I thought Marshal’s become a real weapon for them drifting forward um it’s probably been their probably been their focal point really the last couple of weeks um and you’re right you know Sinclair has always been that player and we and maybe we don’t talk about Jack Sinclair enough when we talk about the best players in the competition we very rarely mention H Jack but he is clearly that caliber of player philippo had had a huge last quarter and he’s still look there’s a lot of scope for improvement still and we’re not saying that he’s arrived and he’s he’s this and he’s that but you’ve got to you’ve got to uh commend the performance 10 score involvements it’s a it’s a fairly big statement I mean we we talked a lot about Elite level picks and they have to be torch bearers at your football club they have to be the reason um that you have success they have to be in my opinion around the clearance action they have to have the capability of getting the ball 35 times um so those highend picks that the Saints desperately need this guy to to become a serious player and we saw evidence yesterday and I’m sure that’ll give him a lot of confidence jez Wilkey was massive particularly down the stretch when they really needed him his shy was massive the former accountant he was brilliant and Liam Henry what a pickup Liam Henry I mean he was sorely missed when he was injured he was massive yesterday as well was a massive one-on-one the biggest one-on-one of the year high ball to the goal Square Heeney versus wil lose that it’s game over uh and he’s a he’s a pseudo Center half forward isn’t he oh that’s but how he’s played there the previous half a dozen years so that that ball was the game and he had such composure wilky to get the job done and then work the ball out that D50 I know I know people are critical of this that the year hasn’t worked out for the Saints and they’re still missing that star Factor mid I don’t know how they get it clearly they’re going to get a high pick this year and there’s a lot of high-end talent in the draft that are all mids y top half a dozen picks are all mids so they’ll get one they have to nail this one they can’t have they can’t have a nice player with this this pick in this year’s draft it’s imperative that they get a a line breaker a tackle breaker um someone that can that can actually separate games from a from a contest point of view the best bits Tommy pal took us back to the old Pagan Paddock days says 76 what about that running Barrel at Marvel stadium so good so good I think far would have go 65 or something the boys did on the bounce last night y um no awesome it was it was a fascinating game it was a good contest wasn’t it great reality television I mean some of the north supporters and you couldn’t blame them couldn’t dare watch Benny answorth lined up to put him in front with 80 seconds left when Noah Anderson’s coming off Cent half back and Harry sheel intercepts it they’ve been the L the form Stacks up for the kangaroos over the last what month would we say since the buy I reckon since seel’s gone Midfield forward they’ve been very good and and Elite level Talent we’re talking about it again that they do correct all your problems so so what level of player is Harry sheel is he all Australian right now well there’s a few texts coming through saying he should be part of the conversation yeah that’s a hard that’s a that’s a high Watermark isn’t it though getting into the all Australian Midfield conversation well he can play anywhere I mean he could be a perfect bench bench player for you can go half back half forward or on ball I think he’s having that sort of year and if he yeah he’s just starting to get the recognition he deserves I think he’s the best best youngster to come to the kangaroos since Carrie and there’s been some good ones I mean cunnington’s been a top liner for a long time Luke Davis unc’s been a very good player just about to go the next level probably You’ think in in the next couple of Seasons um but I just think he’s the most complete package that’s walked in for a long time you Harvey’s played a stack of games one of heaper best and fairests this gu’s I think on that level he’s he’s got unbelievable scope and wherever they go with him in terms of he just become 100% midfielder now or an 8020 you know mid forward I think his days in in the backline well and truly gone um and let’s just find out where he can go from there he’s a beautiful move up Phoenix stay patient Phoenix is asking de and play last weekend just hold your horses keep your panties on we’ll get to their agitated when they lose they agitated when they win we’ll get to the bombers trust me the worst bits where do you sit with the worst bits from the weekend well the Isaac Ranken bump is clearly the worst bit of the weekend for me like this is a guy that we love to watch play and we’ve celebrated his his damage at stoppage in the Ford 50 his his ability to change the fortunes of this footy Club when he’s on and playing Midfield forward he is the reason that they win games of football and they set the game up for him he’s their Dustin Martin uh type player so for him to to to put his needs above the teams and in an act of just Madness you know to decide that he’s going to inflict some damage to stovich is is a significant error a disappointing act I’ve got to say a real cheap shot um so for those who missed it to set the scene it’s first quarter there’s a stop play Wing maybe um Adelaide side of the of um of the center Wing area Brandon stovich is running back to man up on Isaac Rank and he’s not watching and Isaac takes his moment to to bump him he picked him off and he knew he knew that he was going to hurt him was just a matter of how was was he going to wind him was he going to was it going to be any more than that probably not but it was going to be it was going to give some discomfort so he decides to bump they have a clash of heads which is accident he doesn’t mean but you can’t you’re liable and I don’t think he meant that but he I was just going to say he’s lined a guy up 20 25 M off the ball who’s not looking so the Optics of that are terrible what’s he get well it’s rough conduct I mean whether it’s careless or not I mean it would you run it through a severe impact because that’s often the tri concussion is a trigger for severe impact I’d say it’s three weeks it might well be three plus straight to the tribunal yeah I think that’s where it’ll go so we were talking last night about the Luke Parker incident versus the Isaac Ranken one and intent or or the intention to actually impact some some or inflict some pain on the opponent I don’t think Luke Parker meant to do that at all and he found himself in a similar situation where he caused enormous trauma to the opposition and he had he had facial injuries and oh that was time in hospital and and away from work whereas I think Isaac meant to inflict a bit of pain so I think he’s in a world a world of trouble with the AFL I’d be surprised if it doesn’t go straight to the tribunal everyone say me I know on the table it comes up as three weeks but this these are the sorts of things we need to stamp out if we’re serious about protecting the head then this goes straight to the tribunal well careless severe and high is three or more matches I mean intentional severe and high if they wanted to argue that the rfl because it’s well off the ball then that’s um three or more matches or maybe four more mat tribunal yeah yeah that’s where I’m sitting where do you see it uh yeah I’m more inclined to think it’ll go direct to the tribunal and he can represent himself and they can argue their case what we intentions and everything that goes in and behind that but uh I think the AFL would hate the look of this when a player is unsuspecting and another one’s deliberately these are the ones where I like the player to front the media after the game and say hey what I did was out of line I’ll cut my punishment you know the next few days or so and apologize and put it to put it to bed straight away like take responsibility I don’t I don’t really want them to challenge any sanction with these sorts of things just accept what they give you and move on put your hand up as quick as you can um um I just think that’s the classier way to do this these are the ones that bring up the and we had a call earlier about the red card conversation and all the rest of it I mean the bottom line is star is going to miss the next game maybe the next two games when you I haven’t had a look at the calendar there so he’s going to be out now in the concussion protocols I I felt really sorry for Brody M check back on on H Friday night a torn Peck just as danam MC getting close to his return so that’s a season Ender no Elliot no McCreery no Cox down there Tom Mitchell still out so we’ll get to Collingwood in a minute but uh nasty injury for Brody M um the pressure index is for base compression Australia’s most trusted athletic compression products KY well Adam Simpson’s in the pressure index isn’t he and he’s he’s uh he’s under a normal scrutiny in Western Australia as as he would expect and and as they would expect um there’s there’s there’s unrest there the margins of in the end of what’s causing the trauma this is this is a full rebuild this is what happens you know they they’ve ran their their course with the the Premiership campaign we all understand that is is it now the time to to sit back and say we need a circuit breaker we need a different voice all those things or or does a club like West Coast stay the course and finish the season and then sit down and and and have the conversation that’s what I think will happen I think they’ll get to the end of the year and and they’ll they’ll sit down as as two separate parties and say where are we going here you are you still able to deliver a b and c because they they’ve set markers in place and they’re about development hours they’re about you know um the smaller targets rather than winning games of football or necessarily winning you know halves of football and those sorts of things are they Meeting those well you have to ask them because we don’t know but oh it wasn’t as if they threw the tail in yesterday are they dug in a bit yeah it looked really bad in the first quarter and they dug in in the second half I thought um and whereas I think last week there was nothing to hang it on this week they could take a couple of things I mean this he was obviously asked a lot about his future after the game at the weekend this is just quick listen to Adam Simpson on his football mortality so he 11th year as coach he’s won eight games we know the score in more than two and a half Seasons he’s won a Premiership he’s made another grand final he’s made finals half a dozen times it’s been a darn good run and he I mean he would know well you can tell he he he knows I mean sometimes there’s a time when it is just time and that’s okay for both parties you need a new voice and and that’s why change is inevitably made I the question is yeah what are the parameters how bad is too bad will he go to the end of the year do they have a look at someone now all those things are in the mix at the moment I think I always say the rebuild coach doesn’t survive right that’s that’s the the trauma of that part of the AFL cycle so if you can hang on to the the incumbent through at least the bottom out period and give that next coach the opportunity to start um with just upside sheer upside Elite level draft picks coming in I think that’s what they’re trying to do and and Adam is prepared to do that it would be it would be easy to cut and run it really would be for him to walk in and say look this is not working yeah see you later and if and if he did feel that he his message wasn’t getting through or there wasn’t a response then I know him he would do that would he I’m not getting that vibe from him at all I think he’s in there for the for the long all and he have to be tapped he wants to fight it he wants to he’s proud man he thinks he can coach and influence games of footage well you know him better than most you think he would one day just wake up and potentially think this isn’t if he didn’t think it was working if he didn’t think they were listening if he thought he’ lost the group in to to use that I don’t know what that well that’s the that was the accusation during the week yeah from half a dozen text messages from people that are unhappy they’re always unhappy people are always unhappy at footy clubs you can find text messages from you find I reckon if you went to the Collingwood footy Club you’d find text messages last year and they won the flag I mean this is this is just part of it so for me it it’ll work itself out at the end of the year I don’t think that they’ll they’ll make a move before unless Simo instigates the discussion says you know what I think I have I have lost the group or I have gone too far with this group um the Damen harck discussion yeah and you come to that realization I I don’t think it’s there but but if it were to be then then then so be it Collingwood a Collingwood our open question this morning on on the means test the Premiership defense that’s uh looking increasingly fragile kingy now we know the injuries have bat all the you know throughout the year one back one in one out two in two out do they want it that you seeing the same level of Desire though because the pressure appeared well off on Friday no no their profile right now is is is only going one way they they aggressively attack and their their their numbers offensively look really good their ability to punish is really good their ability to to to create Havoc from from uh contest is is okay um but their work without the footy is is bottom of the charts bottom two in the competition so when the opposition have the ball they’re a shadow of what they were last year and and whilst they’re like this they’ll be uncompetitive they’ll play in bursts and in bursts only I think he’s I think the coach has got to um Love are the levels of trust that he has with the midfielders and pick the same guys every week they get him into this situation I think he’s got to trust some younger players to go in or some different types to go in um and have a have a crack because it’s it’s it’s dayos or bust in there at the moment well Ned long played Richards played Dean played Harrison played the middle go in at Center bouns I’d give Bobby Hill a look at Center bouns I mean we talk about we talk about ranking and we talk about hayen young and we talk you know Sinclair all these go just you got to sometimes just throw someone different in the mix to shake the tree a little bit because it’s it’s not working they’re finding themselves in a position where they’re having to chase the scoreboard late in game and then it’s hey guys now we got to go so they’re getting this 100% offensive gearing again and it doesn’t it doesn’t help them I I just I I just feel like the coach now has to has to Rattle a few now how how you do that is is it’s not necessarily by dropping players but by not giving them Prime roll they can be the second wave Midfield rather than the first he called it CR MCC said it was hard to watch he called them unpredictable he called them unrecognizable I mean it’s pretty damning triol words there to be using yeah but he’s right isn’t he and the pressure yeah it’s just different and and down back it just looks a mess it just looks a mess it just looks like anytime the ball comes in they’re they’re they’re in trouble they’re they’re out of position or they’re they’re just cold getting beaten and that that’s unfamiliar for us uh with the the Collingwood profile the last couple of Seasons so when you when you look at this and you have a view to to the Future like there’s an eight-week campaign on right now if if if this doesn’t work why would it correct next year like who you’re not getting it any more Nick Doos couldn’t be playing any better really over the last block of six to eight weeks To Go’s been up and down but when he’s on he’s brilliant who else has really been shooting the lights out so they’re waiting on some some contributors to get busy and and I can I can sense the frustration from Craig mccrae’s press conference and he’s right they’re unpredictable you can’t have unpredictable in terms of the way they play because they’re a very aggressive position defense and they’re a very aggressive Midfield in terms of stepping goals side in a heartbeat so as soon as you’re unpredictable you’re working away from your numbers they got a massive challenge Collingwood to fix this in the short term uh otherwise this will just frit her away 129 uncontested marks for wring it was an absolute uncontested Mark Fest so they didn’t take the uncontested mark game off them which meant they couldn’t get any pressure on the ball so once Collingwood can’t get any pressure on the opposition it’s easy from there because that aggressive dominant positioning behind the footy gets found out it it was beautiful from Esson it was it was an amazing performance by the bombers and we’ll get to them later on cuz I want to talk about please do because they’re getting the natives are getting restless out there they they’re still agitated and it’s turning into anger why haven’t we discussed them yet David I demand an answer from you PFI is prelim AR final Integrity they were brilliant weren’t they and I I hate the uncontested mark game I do I I hate it I don’t know if it takes it to the promised land at the end of the season when it clicks over into September but if teams are going to allow you easy transition of the footy you take it any way you can and and they just had have a happy Knack of of taking what the opposition give um the standards have changed and shifted at the bombers and and I think Zack merid is the one that just deserves all the credit the boys showed some terrific Vision on the in the postmatch on Friday night of Zack Merritt without the footy just hunting after the Collingwood players hunting after those loose balls that were bobbling and spilling around and just and just had the sole focus of being difficult to play against it’s the first time in a long time that I think the bombers are hard to play against and and it’s it’s a credit to the captain um yeah you look at the the block of the last six weeks and they win the ball back between the arcs the third most of any team in they comp now to me that’s the profile of Team going places they haven’t been this team they look they look stronger behind the ball I like I like the use of Ridley more this weekend than the previous uh couple of weeks Mai with a bit more responsibility uh will be better as they go forward they’re still probably learning how to play with one another really haven’t haven’t had that many games together um so I I don’t think it’s all about them on offense anymore so things have shifted they got responsibilities they rested a couple on the weekend they went back to the one Ruckman um Cadman come in and showed the footy world that you know he he’s just a a beautiful mover and it’s he’s going to play a lot of footy for the bombers and and probably be a fan favorite almost immediately he he looked dangerous didn’t he he’s going to be a monster in the air it looks like like one goal three obviously left some goals out there but uh he’s going to be a monster what an athlete six marks it’s just it wasn’t what he did it was the way he did it that I think everyone just went wow what’s the what’s the scope here and they’ve got they got a few that we don’t talk a lot about coldwell’s had a a sneaky good patch um and and a very good player as we know she come back and I think everyone’s put a line through Dylan sheeld I just feel like the footy World said no he’s he’s done or they’ve gone past Dy and he’s he’s not getting back in I don’t know what the what the challenge would been from the coach but but to see him come back in and do some things was really exciting leading tackler on the ground I said off the top how often have we been able to say that about Dylan Shield yeah so the contested ball the clearances massive last quarter tackling pressure as well tick tick tick the use of Jones on on the wing SL half forward that sort of that that flank of sort of rle I think is better for him then as a key post uh forward of the ball look he doesn’t look anywhere near as capable as what caddy does straight away so I I really like that um so that’s that’s been a good move from the coach and I wonder eventually if he will end up as a as a Defender but right now this this role is serving really well and his ability to outm Mark so they’re using him often on those long down the line kicks or the kick out from fullback um when he gets an undersized matchup they’re giving him that that opportunity y sneaking inside 50 every now and then he’s he’s utilized so I think their game’s in really good order they got they got a couple of goals out of Peter right which they’ve been lacking for for a few weeks now and it just it just looks more it just looks better as a unit rather than um one or two players leading the way the load is is spread uh evenly across their top half a dozen or to 10 contributors Nick Hax on the other Wing as well and and Zack Merritt I don’t know what you think of him in terms of captaincy and where he sits he’s the best captain in the game or not I mean what what are you saying he had 30 disposals but 15 score involvements so one out every two disposals resulting in a score that’s an insane ratio it is it is but such as his skill and his vision you know he’s and he’s chased down pressure as well so it was him that chased Nick Doos down when he had his head down running into goal in the last sorry I said Cadman not caddy I meant to say caddy um long week it’s been a long weekend been a long weekend sorry knew what you me knew what you meant jez yeah tough cred tough Crow that’s all right we got to EST who are the Giants King they they are absolutely the Curiosity on a Monday morning they won their first five they’ve lost seven of their next 10 they fell off the cliff and they bob up and totally overwhelm Carlton on Saturday night it was a strange game wasn’t it a really strange game was looked like it was going to be a smashing in terms of the Blues getting hold of the Giants after the first 35 40 minutes of the game and then whoosh did they come back I think Kieran Briggs was a major part of it I mean their stoppage game was was just off the charts it was uh they scored I think 70 points talked about in the postmatch 114 470 they’ve only had one better return than that in the Last 5 Years the Giants and they’ve been a pretty serious football team against some banged up opposition through that period so to do that to Carlton who everyone thinks are probably the if they’re not the number one seed they’re the number two seed so to 11470 is just a ridiculous number um the contested marking of Jesse Hogan oh man actually said to me he said you know what you highlight all the time these Specky type marks and they always win mark of the year some Jesse Hogan’s contested Mark at the top of the square where the whole pack the whole pack sort of collapsed on him and around him well you couldn’t see him even he couldn’t see him and I reckon the Umpire took three seconds to work out that it had been marked uh why isn’t that a contender it’s a it’s a valid question the contested Mark of the year should almost be its own award it’s it’s it’s such a a unique uh part of our game so he took six marks inside 50 um he’s taken 63 marks inside 50 17 clearer the next player like it’s some season from Jesse Hogan he gave Brody Camp an absolute hiding he did and when Jacob weering had his 53rd corki of the year it goes off a lot do he we’ve had this chat before has he broken a little known record for corys in a season he’d have to have he goes off a lot they’re big thighs yeah I know they’re big quads and yeah Kemp was exposed and and yeah credit to Jesse Hogan he was amazing and bodies falling around him the copper field Mark he went missing yeah he was invisible and just got up off the deck with the ball in his hand so yeah the Giants like Carlton just could not touch the ball for I reckon 50 to 55 minutes in the middle parts of this game then he had 53 intercepts really no low number um It’s usually the AFL averages in the high 60s almost 70 so that’s sort of 30% below AFL average so they couldn’t interrupt the Giants when they won the ball back between the arcs um and they had trouble winning a clearance there post quarter time so if this is the real giants and I’m still still not sure but if if this is to be them and they looked better at ground level the kid with the lid the Dome with the Dome whatever you want to call him um he was back in in in line breaking form uh Brent Daniels looked terrific and probably had his best game for the season Tom Green Tom Green Well Tom Green he’s been a player that I’ve watched closely the last few weeks he just hasn’t been the same player that was back to what we probably expected for 17 rounds not one or two for the year so I’m looking forward to seeing if if this is is going to be him in the back half they’re good enough they’re good enough they shouldn’t even be in the discussion of making the eight this team is is is Cherry ripe for a flag run and to be just on the edges I think’s been really disappointing um and the coach I think just I think he’s he’s spoken some truths during during the week and just just said hey come on we’re got to get going so let let’s see if they can let’s see if they do uh the job of Buckley on kerno was outstand in completely shut him down uh just the one goal and just he didn’t actually look like it did he no nearly nearly kept into his first goal this game for 60 what is it what’s the streak now 63 or 62 or something I don’t know about those streaks they’re a bit of a nonsense um but he was all over him yeah you’re right so why doesn’t the coach find out where else he can how else he can utilize him in that instance Charlie because that could happen in a final but I think we’ve seen this before and then Charlie just explodes for 10 minutes and kicks for that happens often so maybe Vos is sitting there thinking well he could just explode any minute now we’ve got to keep the faith keep your faith in your good you wouldn’t roll him up the ground and you wouldn’t put him you know like the Jeremy potentially but I think history would tell you that he can just pop off for 10 minutes and go nuts and just split a game but um it didn’t happen on the weekend and and how filthy was Buckley when he did get that little sneaky one out the back in the goal Square as well so the Giants I mean so 26 tackles inside 50 as well like they were hungry they pressured they got next Gold Coast after that how big is that game in terms of top eight uh that is a home game for gws and then they’ve got melan Hawthorne Brisbane and freem manle to finish so a bit of a mixed bag well let’s see if they can get on a on a bit of a run and what did you make of the Jesse Hogan studs out Mark is that still an issue for the AFL or not no so there was an amendment to this many years ago I just quickly doing some Googling CU I knew you were going to ask me because it was brought in for for obviously the Toby green situation there was a game three four five years ago where Jack rewal got penalized twice at the G for that exact mark and it was it just defied all common sense so the AFL walked it back so I’m not sure now if it’s only if it’s high if it’s front on or but I think a stud in the back I don’t have a problem with that do you have a problem with that spok not my back exactly I I I don’t know I just confused as to where where we’re at with this action because it is a dangerous I don’t think that one’s a free kick anymore I don’t have the ruling in front of me I think they scaled that back but there was a there was a flash point several years ago concerning Jack Ray wat at the G I remember that kingy the debate is for New Vision clinics New Vision clinics Keyhole laser vision Next Generation technology you’re a two rock guy I am which surprised me why well that just surprised me because I thought everything was leaning towards a single rck operation uh essendon were going with one and we’ve seen the results so Carlton had been going with one and we’ve seen the results most most teams go with one yeah with a with a with a guy just to provide an element of relief but you are all for two genuine rcks well no only if the other rck can play I see I think former ding is the talking point do you need pitet and and I think when you look at the weekend and the new Rock Rule at Center bounces you can step across and take the opposition ruckman’s jump we’ve seen that a lot with Max yeah Brody Grundy started with Max Gorn we’ve seen a little bit with um the bigger boded Ruckman are loving taking away your jump so this is why Sam Dary becomes a real weapon for Freo so you love him in the team I think PID Net’s that player for Carlton I’d love him in the team and look look at the numbers and the numbers endorse it now they don’t endorse it in terms of when the tour in the team de de win but there’s so many factors going into a win you can’t just say one player coming in at just coincidental then well it’s over a long period of time isn’t it I’m a Believer in uh the center bound being a critical component of the game the center bounds clearances you look at pitet played the seven games this this season they plus 26 Center bouns clearances when he’s in there when Deone is in there they’re minus 11 through his 15 games plus 16 scores now D’s plus three scores from Center bounds from Center bounds so that that’s a massive number for me so that that to me I I think you have to look at it and there’s plenty of time to to to sort of get organized and have another look um but if but if you’re going to get what happened in the second half on the weekend again then you’d be mad not to revisit it and and the eye can sometimes lie with this this stuff I don’t think you can blame one extra RN for the whole turnover game falling apart but each people see I said differently I know you’re you’re just a one R you’re a one lump man yeah I mean but it’s on dcing to navigate or whoever it is at the time to navigate the big Boer block on him isn’t it and and how do you do that well you just got to can’t you come at him from a different angle I mean you’re you’re the one who should have the you should be dictating you’ve got the leap you got the athletic profile you should be able to jump all over them from a different angle come at it from a different side surely surely that can be something that can be adjusted I wonder whether this rule has tip too far has has changed Center b rock work too much um but that there we’ll have a look and see what happens with selection over the next couple of weeks but I would think you’re obligated to have another look at pit there the rck debate C have only lost one game playing with one rock on those figures I would say it’s working for the blues Tom deing just had a bad day did roll his ankle pretty early in the game as well all right what about oh and by the way New Vision clinics uh Keyhole laser vision Next Generation technology call 1 1800 202020 that was our debate they got that right let’s go positive again here kingy what what and who what did they get right what they get right I think you’d have to say Kenny Kenny hinley got uh the game plan and and the Tactical side of it absolutely spot on against the dogs uh their ability to to get their handball game going and and challenge the dogs Midfield to get it done defensively just uh just bought dividends everywhere they embarrassed them really and and Bevo he touched on in the post game that they didn’t have a win in the Ford 12 he called it the whole Midfield and their front six um it was it was evident early what the plan was and Rosie and buts they just took them to the cleaners 18 first quarter possessions Rosie real wasn’t it and and I hadn’t seen him do that for a while so it was good to see him uh absolutely take full control so I just wonder if that’s going to become more of them because I look at the swans and as often as they can they get the ball to hey G and water why can’t you do that with horn Francis Rosie and butters why can’t you try and maximize those uh Prime pieces if you like also think that horn Francis is their best forward he’s their best forward in this team and I want to see a you know I’d love to see a 6040 split I’d love to play 60% mid uh sorry 60% forward 40% mid I think they’ve got enough mids wines Butters Rosie they got Drew and they got some kids to throw through there ha Fran is 40% mid for me 60% forward because they need it what’ you make of the exchange between Ken and Zack buts on the bench loved it yeah I think one thing Ken is is he’s really honest with his players he’s he’s got the full trust and they can have those conversations in real time and and just move on what did you make of what B said at halftime to Mark should should you oh I missed that what did he say he said he said are the AFL look into uh what’s going Stu yeah it wasn’t I don’t know just it couldn’t have been just the LI stuff it was a bit happening there it was like one or two little events it wasn’t much there so P got it I wonder if it said more this game around what pork got right or was what the doggies got wrong because they got that wrong definitely sits with the Western Bulldogs smack backed out of the blocks never recovered speaking of rucks Tim English didn’t take the opening B of the game that was weird wasn’t it that was weird for me don’t know it was a little bit too clever um just put just put the Ruckman in there you know I’m not e a question Bevo at all but that just it just didn’t look right it just looked a bit too uh tricky for me don’t like tricks at the start of the game really I don’t want him in game don’t love him at the start of the game it go with your best more what they did without the ball the dogs which was an abundant like a pressure and a want to Chase and put heat on and they just had their way with them at times they did they did and Rory lob hey we he looked good down back I know he had he was thrown forward and then went back again no Jones I think uh I think this is really building I think that that is his spot going forward Aaron Norton got knocked out now we had a text concast I should say not knocked out um we had a text earlier this morning what’s the difference between the the action we’re splitting hairs I just thought that one was from Brandon Zer Thatcher was more intentional he’s not even looking and I might be kind it wasn’t sided either by the way which is why we got the call but I thought he wasn’t looking at Aaron Norton and the arms out just to feel for contact whereas I felt that Isaac Heeney looked at Jimmy Webster and deliberately struck him to to get space and obviously got him high unfortunately no one’s saying it’s a deliberate act but I think I think there were differences in the two worries me look it looked like not a massive blow to me it concerns me that you can be concussed so easily from that hit it worries me going forward if that’s the threshold for Aaron which is a difficult conversation to have because it’s a medical conversation really where we’re not qualified or skilled but I’ve seen a lot harder hits um and he’s he’s a pack marker so he’s going to be in those sorts of clashes regularly what I’m concerned about that going forward dogs have Carlton coming up uh maybe no Jones uh no oon no Garder no Keith and Norton out now as well so that’ll test and Cody waitman as well kingy why don’t you get us underway at four I’ve got the freem manal football club I could have had them higher but I’ve got them at four really making a run Hayden young is going to really make a charge at their best and fairest this year it’s WFIE Tom I’ve got them at four as well I think they’re there on Merit I I don’t think you can ignore what they’re putting out there I mean the 11 goal loss to the dogs is the outlier but the form I reckon Stacks up they’re they’re hard to beat yeah good clearance team getting better with the footy bit more free flowing I like what they’re doing at three who have you got I’d be disappointed if we’re all aligned here I’ve got Brisbane at three oh I’ve got Brisbane oh no this is disappointing I just think one game off a top four spot they’ve got 20 more per on Essen they’re a game and a half off the Blues in a home qualifying final they they won their last five and six of their last seven they are coming with an absolute bullet yeah and as you said earlier Loy Neil could be ready for another Brown low medal he’s the only one that gets the three voters up there uh now playing really good footy particularly with the ball very aggressive free flowing high scoring and their clearance game is in pure working order jeez I hope we’re not aligned here I’ll be so disappointed who have you got it two Caron at two forgot I know I know little setback on the weekend um but hardly a trend I mean they played they played pretty well first 30 minutes and then just fell asleep so two two for me and I was staying strong fought it out just a bad one won six of seven before the loss to the Giants so I’ve got him at two I’m I’m really shattered about this because we’re aligned we are we’ve both got Sydney at one can’t you can’t deny the swans been the best team all year and have been beaten by what’s he Logan McDonald not being able to convert post siren they’ve been beaten on the scoreboard by Five Points one point two points more scoring shots against Freeman of last week eight more scoring shots against the Saints they kicked 311 to 92 after half time the weekend that’s disappointing that we agree good fun good the Saints they were good the Saints enjoyed it a lot of positive feedback on the text machine 410 texts and all of them 10 10 positive overwhelmingly positive Jamerson Irish whiskey tripled atill twice the smooth oneof a kind gather around oh it’s been an absolute pleasure kingy see you during the week for

  1. Carlton will likely finish in top spot especially with the easy games they have left like North and WCE. Sydney still have to play against 3 of the top 8 sides and Collingwood on the run home to the finals.

  2. Gotta say it. When Brisbane were the second best team last year, not a sound. When Carlton are the 2nd best team, it’s all the rage.

I understand Carlton are a big market, but this is the AFL, not VFL. It’s historically bad how biased the AFL media is.

Before anyone says “this is a vic based radio show, this applies to all corners of the AFL.

How do they expect AFL to grow in other states if all they talk about is their golden boys in Victoria.

Cant be denied at this point. Poor business management as a whole.

  3. The Collingwood backline certainly is missing Nathan Murphy, he wasn’t a star but was a workhorse and therefore allowed others in the backline to perform other roles.

  4. Agree, Charlie needs to be moved up into the play if he’s not getting near it… after a quarter and a half…as also means the opposition have to re-set to accommodate….. Harry was in good form and could have snagged a couple as a result……., you’ll never know if you don’t try something

  5. Thankyou Kingy, as a proud Eagles supporter who supports my club through thick and thin, I am immensely grateful for everything Simmo has given our club. But the reality is that as Simmo acknowledged, I'm at peace with his mortality as a coach, it is a fact of life in football that coaches inevitably come and go. I genuinely don't think a coach survives this, atleast not indefinitely. My major concern is that I have no idea who is gettable, who replaces him, and I am skeptical they'll be able to do much in the short to medium term, not as much as will be needed to placate impatient supporters among us who do not like being on this side of the ladder. Rebuilds take time and are usually anything but linear.

  6. Agree, horses for courses…. this was definitely a Pitto game given the oppo. Damage really occurred in play…

  7. If heeney gets a week for that it wlll be a joke,if it was cripps, daicos, bont these commentators would be saying ,notbing in it

  8. Carlton will be lucky to make finals , gave up two 7 goal quarters in a row on the weekend , potential premiership teams don’t do that

  9. I’ve come on here to vent. I really miss Gerard. I like it when Sam does the news and I’m sure he’s doing his best – but he doesn’t listen to Kingy enough. He was incredibly combative and treated this like a ‘Sam and Kingy Scramble’
This segment is and should always be primarily around Kingy presenting his analysis – I don’t want to listen to Sam’s rebuttal to Kingys thoughts… especially if Sam is referencing sources like the Perth talkback text line…
I think Kingy misses Gerard too…

  10. Vossy got outcoached – there, I said it. 😂 Bluez should have played Pittonet, Briggs is a weapon not many teams can deal with. Voss had no answers once GWS handball chaos got up and about either.

  11. This is the beauty of supporting a northern/non Vic club. Sure there isn't nearly enough talk when we are dominating the competition but likewise: very little chat when we lose two on the trot!

  12. Does Edmund understand the meaning of 'usually'? Apparently not. It means under normal conditions. Normal means typical. Webster was falling when he was hit. Not typical. And apparently Edmund is a journalist and apparently doesnt understand the English language.

  13. Re Collingwood – Nick Daicos’ level of defensive effort is too fluid – varies from ok to pretty ordinary! Being so lauded, he needs to set a real & better example!

  14. Swans last two games have lacked the pressure to match what the opposition are putting on. This is where Mills, Parker and Adams will get to work.

  15. If there is any excuse offered for the Bombers between now and the end of the year it certainly won’t be because of their draw. One interstate trip in the final ten weeks and three home games against interstate teams between now and then. People are talking about equalisation in the competition and one suggestion is that each interstate side gets one more home game. Pull the other one. It should be at least two just for starters.

  16. Darcy Parish has 30 plus possessions at 65% efficiency and everybody says it’s a waste, Daicos has 30 at 40% efficiency and is praised? Thinking like that will keep Collingwood out of the 8

  17. Kingy not giving Brad scott anything….. i wonder why? Shows the shallowness of the individual.
