High School Biology Teacher Colin Prater Amazingly Qualified For The U.S. Open



Colin Prater is a high school biology teacher, but for one week in June of 2024 he is a U.S. Open golfer.

The major tournament has a unique qualification system that 9,522 players attempted for a crack at Pinehurst, but only 44 managed to play their way into an invitation.

Prater, a teacher and assistant golf coach at Cheyenne Mountain High School in Colorado Springs is one of them. He brought along a fellow assistant coach to caddie.

The 29-year-old sealed the deal with a 68-73 at the final 36-hole qualifier in Bend, Oregon.

Prater is a four-time Division II All-American at University of Colorado Colorado Springs and won the Colorado amateur in 2016 and 2020. He has a 1 ½-year-old daughter and another on the way.
