The Oilers’ most important home game of the year

It’s Friday afternoon, and that means a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio has been edited and ready to massage your ear holes. The major difference this week is that the Oilers are fighting for their lives in Game 6 with the chance to push this series back to Florida for a seventh and deciding game.

The boys started the Friday episode of Oilersnation Radio discussing what their non-negotiables are for Game 6 if the Oilers are going to win their third straight elimination game. Whether it’s being strong on the special teams, limiting mistakes, keeping Florida to the outside of the ice, getting saves, or anything in between, there are lots of details the Oilers will need to focus on if they’re going to extend the series.

Changing gears, we looked back at Game 5 and what the Oilers did well in that win and what they need to improve on. Needless to say, beating the Panthers for a third straight time will be incredibly difficult, but Baggedmilk wanted to know what needs to be carried over and what needs to be scrapped ahead of the most important home game in nearly two decades.

Lastly, we wrapped up the episode of ONR with another round of Ask the Idiots and Hot and Cold Performers before winding down with some score predictions ahead of a do-or-die Game 6 against the Florida Panthers. said if Leon dry cadle has one great game he will the others will win the Stanley Cup and you know I like to talk I was held speechless I didn’t know what to say he said that yesterday I read that on Twitter yesterday crazy thing to say to his right now Tyler Vibe check um my brain is moving very very fast today I’ve like gone to the ring I did like three shows at the rink sprinted here did the show here doing this did low tide like I’ve just been talking Oilers since I woke up today which is basically what everyone’s internal dialogue is and honestly I’m kind of happy that I’m looking at the clock right now and it’s almost 2 o’clock because I’m I’m an impatient person and I’m very much like just get this Puck down I’ll start I will in a sick way I think I’ll almost calm down when the pucks down and it’s like just a hockey game okay so it’s just you’re just anxious right now I’m I’m an anxious person day drop the puck let’s start playing and I can calm down that’s where I’m at series what are the non-negotiable um I one to kick it off go ahead your best players need to be your best players I know a other guys have kind of come through so far in this series I moud has a couple of goals Perry had a big one last game yam Mar and brown have played really well but you need McDavid dile n those guys need to be on their best game tonight Stu but sorry offensive Stars need to be the best who’s next Dan I I’m gonna say protect the goalie I think that we saw a little bit of it from Florida last night or last game and it’s going to continue to be a theme here they know that Stuart Skinner is locked in and they know that they’ve seen this the numbers of Skinner from games four to seven versus games one and three uh so I I I really do think that we have to protect Skinner have to do a better job you can’t have Sam Bennett running through the crease and knocking him over and not have any response from the team so I just think protecting Skinner and that doesn’t just mean physicality it also means defensively making it so that there’s not so many rebounds not so many close in shots that kind of thing but yeah protect your goalie and make it easy for Skinner to make this game a win that was a crazy play sorry that Benny just ran into the goalie and especially moments after himman got called for interference for just existing again microphones in front of the officials at the end of the game I’m really make him sit there and look into a camera and answer why he said that wasn’t a goal I’ve been fascinated by the coverage after the games like I just I haven’t seen enough of it I in my opinion uh of people calling out that kind of behavior and that kind of just [ __ ] it’s nonsense it’s that’s dangerous and like at the junior hockey level that’s a brawl like I I don’t know it just it boggles my mind in the NHL you got a guy in game five of the Stanley Cup finals getting run by players and it’s okay can’t bra ra now can’t take the penalties but the refs need to do something about it yeah Rick non-negotiable for game six just continue playing the way you have the last two games let’s not make it too complicated let’s not get over over our heads right now repeat your last two games and you’ll be fine I I’m going to say early start like I know we’ve done this whole song and dance a bunch of times in the playoffs of like hey momentum does not carry over from game to game it was apparent in this series going from game three to game four as well but considering the circumstances and the context of what’s gone on in this hockey game tonight in this series you have Florida on the edge of a cliff I think and if you come out of the gates hard for 10 minutes and you Hammer them and you get one and the crowds into it I think once you get that first goal it’ll just be like giv them that little nudge off the cliff they’re going to start gripping their sticks so tight they are going to come unglued and undisciplined and you will have this game if you start good tonight said if you can come out quick I think you get them under their skin yeah and then it’s Power Play Time yep I just to me it’s gonna be attention to detto there were what were in game five two goals that were completely avoidable by just not being able to clear the puck and I know it’s easier said than D the defenseman ran the Zone on that on the hallay one you can’t let that be a battle be the last man yeah yeah so like that’s just I mean attention that’s on the defense on that like Bard flew the Zone early on that one def hallway didn’t really have an bring pizza up to the Press Box it’s incredible is that where they is that where they is are you guys the one who attaches it to the uh to the parachutes and throw it over people no I’m not but that would be hilarious pieces and give a nice frisbee toss over the just watch that’s just the uneaten pizza from the media Lounge that’s fine what’s the approach of being in the media like the media row tonight you you’re not supposed to cheer yeah you got to be a professional but I know in your heart it will be pounding just as hard as the rest of them yeah um what are they going to do kick you out ahead but according to Frank Cali Matias yanar is reportedly willing to stay with the Oilers for a pay cut which is amazing because he’s only making a million bucks provided there’s a little bit of term there yeah I was talking with Frank about that years 750 let’s go right now what w for I think maybe what Frank or what Frank meant was like obviously not like a pay cut from what he’s making now but three years times one but yeah like a pay cut from what he would get Elsewhere for terms so maybe like there might be another team out there who’d look at yanar and be like we’ll give you 1.9 on a one-year deal and he might come to Emin and go I’ll play for three by 1.5 I think there’s only a couple cities he’d like to play in can we guess them sure Edmonton Vegas Dallas some other the taxfree a lot of balls up in the air in that in that front I think CC’s future I think could impact it a little bit because if you can free up the CC money you can maybe dish out a little bit more for Vinnie than you would right now I think what they do with Darnell nurse maybe even has an impact on it there’s a lot of balls in the air and I think one thing that he’s considering allegedly probably length of term he wants security wherever he goes probably and also for him like again he’s not like yes he just came On’s only gonna get one decent contract is going to be this one yeah that’s what I was want to go back to five really quickly just what stuck out to you in game five that needs to carry over what stuck out to you in game five that needs to be left in game five they were just the better team in game five I think they just they outplayed them everywhere on the ice and the things that need to be left out of it are those stupid mistakes in your own Zone that are just dumb little whoops that end up in Internet Florida had on their heels for good stretches I say like that they got to improve the five on five a little bit Yeah they weren’t better at five on five special teams they were great they got better goal tending their stars were better PK was better all that stuff but at five on five the shot ATT EMP were like 5421 but I think in the same breath the Oilers were good until they were up three nothing in Florida just at a push back so I think it’s kind of like I I agree I think Florida was the better team overall after the goals but yeah they never got back you got the one you got the two you got the three and then the one after yeah you know and then they got to the point where it’s 4-3 and we locked it down well Bennett had that one look on the doorstep right just released the first three yeah they don’t release them Weekly right or do they they I think every week they release three I think three weeks total the whole season comes out binge a little bit
