what’s up everybody Ben rzi here for stochastic talking all things PGA strategy John dear classic know it’s Don a major yes it’s a weak field big money up top once again in the DFS streets and a lot of names to get through weeks like this it’s important to uncover those hopefully hidden gems Diamonds in the Rough guys that can really compete because we could see a first time winner we’re gonna go over the field the course and everything you need to know courtesy of our data here at stochastic if you are just joining us for the first time I want to welcome you into stochastic all things DFS from pick process to tools to simulations we got you covered all sports if you like it we see hit the like button subscribe to the channel before we dive into the John Deere classic field we can look at the rocket mortgage uh from Aaron Ry and baa and C Davis uh you know a lot of guys vying for that I think we could see a lot of similarities both of these courses yield a lot of birdies you have guys that are flirting with 20 under you have guys that are firsttime winners or haven’t won a bunch uh non-prolific winners because of the weak field and I think that is one of the things that I’m going to carry over from last week in Detroit so it’s not to say they’re similar courses uh John Deere as we dive in you know Deer Run we see this course all the time it’s very easy generous Fairways bent grass greens kind of like an iron competition and you got to roll the rock you know it’s nothing too gimmicky in my mind um as I start to bring up the field that we’re going to talk about about in a second but to me we we kind of know what we want we want golfers that are going to attack we want golfers that are going to score and I’m emphasizing more iron play and putting and not that you can really emphasize putting but that would be the combo I want I do think I’m going to talk about I know I’m going to talk about some that have the off the te putting combo that’s always a volatile skill set but it can be very very effective but for me with this I’m keeping it pretty simple I want guys that bir your better percentage score on part fives can roll it on bent uh and are just you know in these type of fields ready to go so let’s dive into the field the top 10 the top 10 the top tier range and we start with Patrick hlay who’s not playing so don’t play him we’ve got Jordan spe sep straa sunj Aaron Ry who nearly won last week Maverick Davis Thomson Danny McCarthy Jason day don’t play Cam Davis also not playing so what stands out it’s what we talked about a little already you have a not a bunch but many guys that are either solid players but maybe not at the height of their powers or you know Maverick Denny Davis Thompson types uh some of them you know Aaron Ry searching searching for those prolific wins few and far between for a guy like Danny McCarthy still searching for that win he’s been so close so many times uh and that’s what we kind of get here class of the field you know you have spe who you know it’s not been a great year for him sunj not been a great year for him either that’s the betting favorite though uh and those are the guys salary is not going to be an issue you know these guys are priced in the 10K range you’re G to be able to comfortably play two of them if you want uh and still have plenty of room for Value you’ve got SE straa the defending champ sandwiched in the middle he’s had a good year you just don’t normally see him north of 10 uh you know the projections are up the ownership will continue to update as we get closer to lock this is early on a Wednesday um but for me Sanjay would be the guy I I still think despite a lot of at times frustration this year I like him in these spots I do believe that he can go low enough that’s always the question with Sanjay like can is he someone who’s GNA win at 20 under um I think he can do that he was great at Travelers irons were fixed he gave over five Strokes on the approach that’s been a missing link all year and you take out the the Big Time Event he missed the cut at the PGA Championship the US Open and the Masters around that though he has five straight top 15s four straight top 10 this guy has been dealing in weaker fields and so if you want to take that to me sj’s the class of the field Denny McCarthy at 9500 the other guy that I really like and I want to Target one of if not the best putter in the world decent form he’s missed one cut uh in the last couple months you know a lot of like 25ths 30ths there which is not what we’re going for he’s got to fix the irons but he did at Travelers he gained almost two strokes on the approach that is what we hope carries over uh and he’s been playing in some strong Fields you know he was he made the cut at the Masters he was sixth in Wells Fargo missed the cut at the PGA Championship 32nd at the US Open 39th at Memorial this is a much easier test for him I I really do like the spot he’s played well here he’s came in six the last two years at this event I picked him to win I think Denny McCarthy is going to win I bet him uh at 22 to1 I just think this is the type of spot if we ever see it from Denny it’s this type of event from there I mean again you I’m gonna go off uh art you know the Sims and what they give me with guys like Aaron Ry Maverick uh Jason day I’m pretty indifferent to them I’m gonna be under onaka there’s no doubt about that um and I I don’t want to say I’m definitely going to be under on Davis Thompson kind of indifferent to that play and if if it came down to it I would much prefer Maverick and I would definitely prefer Denny McCarthy Davis Thompson is playing very good golf there’s no doubt he was ninth US Open and second at Rocket mortgage it’s just a big price bump um and maybe his this good you know his putter has flipped he was really cold with the Putter and now he’s been hot in two straight events and that’s what’s done it if he continues that watch out if he regresses might be a good spot to short let’s scroll down we’ve got Keith Mitchell JT T poson Sam Stevens Nick Dunlap Uh Kevin U Lucas Glover Luke Clanton another Super Talent Eric Cole Mark hubard and Sheamus so when I look at this uh guys that stand out I think Keith Mitchell is someone that a lot of people including me really liked last week um and when you look at him a lot of the similarities I do think can travel he can get crazy hot he missed the cut at Rocket mortgage but he still gained 3.6 Strokes on the approach it was just he couldn’t simply putt he could not buy one hopefully these greens are a little more receptive for him and he can figure it out because he played good enough golf to get through and if you get through you can always make a run uh in tournaments like this a guy who definitely got through was Luke Clanton uh this we don’t know but it seems like he’s pretty good he was 41st at the US Open and he was 10th at the rocket mortgage he absolutely mashes off the te he gain Strokes putting in both of these events his around the green game has been atrocious it’s like havland but man that would be pretty good if we got havland at 8600 I’m not saying this kid is that good but he seems to have a lot going on he’s going to be more popular the secret is out but he’s definitely playable at 8600 uh he’s trying to do the Nick Dunlap Nick Dunlap won as an amateur then it’s been a little Rocky and that’s what’s going to happen when you get into a bunch of events Nick Dunlap was 10th last week at Rocket mortgage the irons were absolutely fantastic he had his best T to Green game uh you know since certainly AMX he was really really good so if you think that’s a sign of things to come this might be a time to buy on him when I look at this range for me Keith Mitchell Lucas Glover Eric Cole and Luke Clanton are the names that stand out uh Lucas Glover has proven he can do it here iron specialist I don’t know if he can make enough putts that is probably the biggest thing and then Eric Cole not someone who was on my radar and now he’s firmly on my radar the classic was it a blip or the start of something he had been awful awful for basically three straight months then he comes in six at the rocket mortgage out of nowhere gains across the board the irons he had lost in four straight he gained 3.2 Strokes uh with the ball striking there putter was good this is a type of course though it’s great for him it’s easy it should be calm conditions I think that Derek Cole actually is a buy I know it feels a little chasy but 8500 I’m actually pretty enthused with getting overweight and I definitely plan to uh and he’s someone if I don’t get a lot in my Sims run I will manually boost Sheamus ah Adam senson absolutely crushed me last week I loved him and he was not good at all let’s see if we can uncover what happened because he shouldn’t be missing that cut and really it was just not much of anything he gained off the te as he does every week he’s done that in eight straight events and he was pretty bad with the approach he couldn’t putt which is not super atypical and that kind of adds up to not being able to keep Pace in a quick quick ticket home so far and his John Deere career he’s been good three for three and made Cuts everything inside the top 25 but nothing inside the top 15 just a bunch of like t20s give or take I’m fine with going right back to him let’s see how this ownership shakes out right now and it’s very early we have him projected as one of the higher owned players if that sticks it’s not to say I won’t play him but that would be surprising and disappointing um I’m not looking to really overhaul to get massive leverage with Adam senson I want him in the pool I’d like to get overweight not at the cost of something major though Bo Hustler’s right there think he can absolutely go low um that’s a guy that I am pretty interested in as well he’s a little all over the place but rocket mortgage was good for him Tia green really good and if the putter had clicked in he would have finished really high and not 31st he’s kind of under the radar in my mind let’s crash into the mid-range here with some of these type of guys Patrick Rogers Ben Griffin Adam shank the Boron Rio is here Doug gim is Here Andrew putam and lejes before I start to break them down now let’s not get crazy I want to talk about a couple things going on here at stochastic one if you’re seeing this data on the screen it’s all part of contest Sims the data packages really changing the way people are that’s it you have interest kind on over there in 177 six and save yourself a bunch of money now Patrick Rogers hopefully he will not cost us a bunch of money I alluded to at the beginning of this video there are a couple guys that have the off the te putting combo Patrick Rogers has that that is kind of what you’re GNA have to tap into he gains off the te he gains with the putter his iron not great he’s lost in seven of eight and that is what keeps him out of the winner circle uh or at least threatening I should say you know that’s that’s always a tough sell um if he had everything he’d be a complete golfer and he would be amongst the best because his off the te Game and his putter at times are world class there’s no doubt about it he was 16th at Travelers 31st at Rocket mortgage and he gained off the tea and he gained with the putter in those I expect that to continue that is the attack mode for him and I like his price at 7,800 I’m sticking with with Rio uh 21y old Japanese player really talented we’ve seen him get acclimated on tour and he’s starting to really knock him down four out of five made Cuts 31st the rocket mortgage I didn’t even think he played that well it just shows his quality um almost automatic T degreen he’s gonna gain he’s gonna gain with the irons he’s gonna gain off the T putter comes and goes but it can get hot we have seen in his career and it’s been brief it’s been one year on tour seven strokes gained putting four and strokes gain putting 4.3 Strokes gain putting it can happen and as long as I know it can happen it keeps him firmly in play for me easy course weak field 66 to one in the outright Market I’m just saying uh just talk about a chopper not bad scrolling down Nate Neil Shipley I don’t even know the guy’s name that can’t be a good sign Neil Shipley deserves uh certainly some recognition it’s part of the Young Guns uh another guy who just burst on the scene 20th at Rocket mortgage destroyed with the irons was not destroyed with the putter but bled out with the Putter and still came in 20th he was 26th at the US Open how good is he I don’t know and when you don’t know there’s always some appeal he will not be sneaky this week people will know about him but if you believe that this guy is only going to get better you’re never going to see him at 7500 in a field like this scrolling down a couple other names you’ve got JJ spawn and Joel damond uh Joel damond was one of my better calls last week actually played well he regressed at the end but RIS ball striking he once again could not putt came in 25th I do think he can kind of replicate that I have no issues going back there even though he’s the captain of Team No putt JJ spawn puted fantastic at Rocket mortgage he came in 10th that broke a streak of three straight miscuts I don’t mind JJ spawn at this type of layout he can go low uh when he’s healthy he’s a good player I think he’s actually pretty underrated he’s gotten some reps at John Deere and they have not been good Miss cut in a 64 worth he lost on the irons and with the putter in both of them obviously not a recipe for Success so if he flips that I think we’ll be fine but these are names the good thing you’re not gonna have to allocate a ton uh I can even scroll over if you want just a a little yeah you’re talking about you know certainly ownership under 10% and that will update it will absolutely update we will get more refined data in here uh and we will be good to go and we can really start to make some decision points with that feeds right into the simulation tools Johnny Vegas uh certainly has his way with the driver he doesn’t do much else but when he does we see him sealing performance so if you’re looking for tournaments if you’re saying I’m building 150 I think Johnny Vegas belongs in the pool he’s made three or four Cuts everything inside the top 30 and he absolutely mashes it off the T if you get anything with the short game it’s a huge bonus but if you get that bonus it really is uh big time upside played John Deere a handful of times not a ton of success he came in third in 2014 but let’s not get crazy uh that was quite a while ago but Johnny Vegas can play there’s no doubt about it Toy’s back I’m not even gonna touch that he’s always a wild man you could get what we got last week which is a bad play and then a withdraw or he could look just fantastic Chandler Phillips is more the move that I want to make this guy’s made four or five cuts he was 12th at Charles Schwab 10th in Canada he’s gained over three Strokes with the putter in three straight events two straight uh or two out of three with the irons the stats look good is off the te game is weak but this is a generous generous Fairway you’re not GNA have pressure on your driver here if you don’t want it to be he’s 7100 he’s not going to be popular he can be your last man in if you go pretty balanced you know we’ll talk a little lineup construction on the way out you don’t need to get crazy this week though unless you’re really jamming up top you’re going to have ample set salary uh and for me him and Rico hooy who also burst on the scene both make a little sense here they both grade out you know similar projection similar ceiling um you see the optimal percentage is there again they can and will update but I like the spot for these type of guys these are Flyers at best there’s no doubt about it but who on my screen right now do you feel confident in all these guys are going to be very similar in terms of projection and output and I think it is somewhat of a dealer’s Choice as you get down here we’ll see what the Sims uh locate but for me I don’t have strong takes as we get to the lower sevens I’m just going to start you know kind of scrolling down I don’t see a lot Jason Hadley can go low uh iron specialist easy course specialist flat seven that’s a reasonable tag prefer him on Bermuda to be honest but you can’t have everything Max giserman so I joked about this on Twitter you can always follow me at at jazz rzd DFS I don’t think I’ve ever played this guy so I would be expanding my all-time player pool if I play him and I am gonna play him he’s 6,900 he is a good maybe a great putter at this point he was 21st at the US Open 31st at Rocket mortgage he has not gained with the irons since March but that hasn’t stopped him I mean he played some poor golf in May but he hasn’t had a ton of starts he’s got the off the tea and putting combo at times he certainly uh to me would prefer an easy course and I mean the guy’s playing pretty well I I was impressed I I never expected him to make the cut to the US Open coming 21st but he followed up with a nice showing at the rocket mortgage if he continues to roll it this guy can play he’s in the 6K range not a big opportunity cost I get it I I think that this is where you start to go to Specialists and he is one with the putter David skins is an iron specialist he’s looked pretty good Paton gazy uh I don’t know what he is um I guess he’s specialist at losing balls off the te obviously at times his putter can get crazy hot and then it could get crazy cold but his irons are better than this range three out of four in the top 25 you’re going to see a lot of guys like that with not middling finishes but just you know they’ve made three or four four or five cuts the irons look pretty good that’s probably enough to get you over um or get them in the pool as we scroll down you know you’re starting to look for guys that have a skill set you’ve got champ and higo as Wildman you’ve got Troy Merritt who every year he seemingly turns it on at Rocket mortgage it might just be that that course is his playground and he can’t do anything anywhere else or maybe it’s a catalyst for something I’m really really not looking to get down here and as you can see the ownership is so small on these guys um even these mid 6K guys you’re not going to see a lot here stman Robbie Shelton I’m just throwing out names that I think are even remotely playable that if they showed up in my Sims runs I would be okay with I don’t think you need to go down here though I really don’t I mean there these are players Nicholas lindheim is an amazing putter uh Russell Knox is one of my all time favorite players I’m not sure I need to do that though Marty D Dylan fortelli is here Bill hos another one of my all-time favorites but I’d be lying to you if I said that I was super enthused about playing any of these guys uh we don’t have a 5k range thank God uh but at the same time with the lack of Firepower up top right here getting back to the top what do you really need to spend your money on if you like double punt in the sixes that’s great you could play anyone you want are you’re just going to be funneled into speed Ry IM Maverick uh you might be and if you love that combo then it works out nicely but if you don’t you might have a lot of dead salary you’re gonna have to leave some money on the table to be unique because I do think a lot of people are going to get to the top by default we saw that last week where you almost couldn’t spend all your salary so that is something to be cognizant of when you build this week I kind of like to go balance in some of these weeks I might start some teams I will start some teams with Denny McCarthy and build down like that and see what we get because if that’s the case I think you have a lot more flexibility you can still take some salary Savers but your lineups look a little different it’s gonna be an interesting field there’s no
