what say you are oh no today me and Johnny are at the London Golf Club on the international course we’re starting on the 13th hole we’re going to go head-to-head 1974 against 2024 now golf balls are changing over the next 5 years but wow they’ve changed a lot over the last 50 years haven’t they they have indeed you have got a Callaway Chrome tour a new ball for 2024 one of the fastest and I think I’ve got one of the slowest we’ve got here a selection of golf balls made in Great Britain and I’m going to use it and John is going to use the other one see if I can actually pick up a bit of an advantage in distance absolutely we’re going to talk about the differences with this ball to 20124 balls in this video we’re play three holes which be quite fun I think I’m going to be in big big trouble because I’ve hit this already I’ve test this on the gc3 at Custom Golf Works um talk to me about the spin pretty bad first up we’ve got a part five about 500 yards into wind big trouble John’s gonna go first show me what show me how to do it right this might be the first time I ever actually hit it further than you off the tea Alex so embarrassing if you don’t yeah famous last words here we go no I’m not my best strike not your best strike but I mean 150 M hour ball speed and uh 221 yard carry it’s pretty rubbish that’s pretty rubbish but it’s just in the right rough so I think we’ll be safe pick a ball for me oh okay right let’s have a look what have we got here this one seems to have the most disintegrated wrapper so that’s what we’re going to go for opening a chocolate unfortunately I can’t eat this I think I get in a lot of trouble so yeah I’m going to hit this I’m going to hit I’m going to hit the big stick as well and we’re going to laugh at the results I’ve set a low bar for in there 221 carry 221 carry is not going to be good enough I don’t think one time I needed to really get one off nicely right let’s see what you got said so we we we’ll talking to Buggy after this shot about why these golf balls are so problematic compared to look how small it is yeah it is um I think it’s 1.68 to 1.61 so there is smaller um some people say that could be mean it’s better to um pop with them yeah it’s considerably smaller yeah and a different color too which is also a problem um yeah there are other problems with this golf ball the thing is I’ve got a big boy driver so hopefully I should be able to make contact oh no I’m in play okay you might be going around on the other side I’m in play well that is going to be good test tell 170 mph bll speed and um please oh my God you’ve beaten Me by 40 yards I’m actually quite the thing is I hit that so far out of the toe there’s no surprise it’s low spin I’m actually quite impressed that they got 170 m you can now you you got to try just go straight over the water I haven’t got that many balls left right let’s get in the buggy so what did how did that feel um really got awful but I think that’s more cuz the stri does it feel does it feel soft yeah it feels softer with an iron than it does with a driver um I’m not sure why obviously this golf ball uh the core and then the mantle is completely different it’s got elastic bands in there um which I’ll show you guys right now with a little bit of b-roll that we uh we dismantled a b custom golf works and first of all it smelt um like what just like old like old old people yeah um but the the main problems with these golf balls is the concentricity which is one thing that brands have such a big deal with now they um the concentric should be right in the center a golf ball you when you roll it go straight yeah these golf balls concentricity absolutely not compl completely different so when I’ve been testing them at cost and Golf Works yes they’re slower but also I could hit a draw swing and it fades because the the weight of it is completely off center yeah so the way in which you just picked a ball for me there could be complet so I could be hitting a draw ball or a fade ball so God I don’t know how people have played these balls before that being said and shot on one numerous mes yeah we can see here I mean we’re going to have to find our balls cuz we are very far away from each other let’s go to your ball first oh you’re fine um but like I’m going to have quite a difficult I was say going to be that’s going to be interesting I think I’m going to have to just lay up here no you’re not youve got call Chrome to you’re going to have to go for it all right let’s see right so we got a bit of a tricky one here the pin is in a maniacal spot 207 come on 207 207 right interesting it’s probably not maybe maybe but I mean there’s like no prizes for being short I’m thinking I think I might have to hit like a three-wood at this 207 don’t let me convince you okay I’m like I I think you need to keep it in plane you’ve probably won the hole I’m going to aim at that I’m not going to go for the pin I’m going to aim at the right side of the green yeah that pin is that tall level this is quite a grubby little lie yeah not the confidence oh oh you whip terrible but it’s actually worked perfectly as Sol layup solid layup that is such a bad shot but it’s actually going to be absolutely perfect you make me sick that’s so bad but it’s going to work right let’s go see what you’ve got yeah 199 yards did you say all right it’s got 199 199 um what are you going to hit so that would be probably a six or a seven a normal B yeah I got five also because there’s water yeah yeah PR of being short yeah and I’m actually delighted you hit this so far left cuz this is about as good a test for this ball as we could possibly hope for G3 down yeah see how stupid this is I’ve um I’ve yeah been very grubby so far on this all you have indeed this not been my best golf no it has not but you’re you’re an A1 I am I’m in a good spot yeah all right one second could easily make car from there come on I’m I’m this I can’t wait Ben Hogan this is a I think it’s a draw ball I think it’s a draw ball just hit straight can’t do that I’m actually going to aim with the bunker um well and just hope it draws back and just just hope it stays dry these golf Bard are quite expensive oh yeah sit sit oh yeah it’s gone miles 140 bll speed it’s gone absolutely miles it’s in the rough at the back is it yeah yeah yeah nice test of your short game oh I didn’t it didn’t pick up the carrier spin because the I imagine cu the golf ball is so different to what it usually it’s 140 is not bad I mean that’s usually like a six absolute rocket you had 199 and what what would you you had a five on yeah yeah okay fine fine f fine we’ll take it well you chipping chipping there you got birdie opportunity not with my short again right well this was I mean it’s a grubby way to get here but I think it’s actually a perfect layup so I’m going to oh just try and Dagger a little 50 degree in there what a lovely what a what a lovely Hole by the way yeah stunning absolutely gorgeous you guys haven’t checked out London Golf Club make sure you do cuz uh greens are lightning but the Vibes are high as well right just need to nip this release two no no just a release one okay oh that was nice spin there we go still running sit sit sit Oh Come Back oh no come back oh no you’re you’re fine you’re a birdie part yeah I don’t think I’m going to get any closer just came out a little bit low just wanted a little bit more pop Groove low yeah perhaps yeah I was just trying to nip one in there but could have done with a little bit more spin y I think oh you know what let’s bring up let’s go find your ball yeah I think I could be not in trouble but not in a good spot for man who’s somewhat worried by a short game I was going to say looking at a very large well you got plenty you got plenty of green to play with he got plenty of what about your new coach sorry your new coach has been teaching hasn’t he yes indeed I’m I’m getting there and he always tells me use use less Loft use less Loft use less Loft so I’m not going to hit my usual silly self would use a um 60 I use a 54 I feel this Ball’s going to roll quite a lot so I’m just going to actually try and literally land it maybe just pass The Fringe it’s down win too maybe it maybe a 60 was the play you know what that’s do let’s be a b with it I think that’s quite good no the greens are quick I thought that was good the greens are quick I’ll take it I’ll take it it was what I wanted I said I said hit it on the green these are rapid green doesn’t look like with this weather that we’re playing in June but is uh so fast I think this is where I’m now Advantage me cuz I got a smaller ball it’s easier to get in the hole see I think this is going to be quite quick down this hill I agree I think these greens are going to be quite they feel faster quite spicy I mean I’ve got this right to left but it could be D you I’m just going to go the hole go having said I read it right to left I say left to right left to right yeah come on skidded it’s not bad I I’ll give you that give me it no no no no all right come on John these are the ones you need to get to single figures never a chance oh this is for the hole God hole for a 50- year old golf ball Jesus flag out please thank you add insult injury absolutely oh very good is it quite nice poting with a small ball it is indeed it doesn’t feel good it feels like I’m hitting a piece of like lead or something like that but piece of lead a piece of I don’t know just something not very nice that heavy yeah I don’t know either way this go four from data of testing at custom golf works it is still very different one down a par beats a bogey two holes to play sir two holes to play so what what did you find out about this custom golf works so I tested a few of these um because I wanted to make sure that you know the whole the balls were slightly different and the one consistent thing I saw is yes it is slower um with driver about 6 to 7 mph slower which isn’t actually too bad for 50 years old no um but the spin rate is one inconsistent uh and all two way higher like my driver was spinning at about 4100 um and usually it’s SP about 2500 7 iron the exact same um what about did you hit any wed shots with it no I did not hit any wed shots I wanted to save that for the course because my found that inside at a launch monitor it always spins a little bit low cuz my 7 IR usually spins about 7,000 for um oh my God this is going to be hard should go watch t should we go for is this the next hole yeah no it’s not oh is it not oh sorry okay okay looking at like oh my god um yeah with the 7 my 7 you sp about 7,000 um inside it was spending about 5100 whereas um this was spinning about 7500 so a lot more spin so is it is it worse oh we got a little p three there we go this will really test me this will be ni test this is a fun one 151 yard path three yes to go on what CL you got I have got an eight iron okay into window yeah it’s hurting quite a bit it’s might not might not be enough but it’s fine with the pin on the back yeah let’s have it Go wind’s eating that for dinner going to the beach oh he get your trunks on get your trunks on oh no I didn’t actually feel so bad it so high what was that then didn’t get it didn’t get it carry 144 yeah just touch short maybe needed one more Club and no last night is quite a bad result I’ll be honest with you yeah but I was thinking what if I land it like one then it might just roll out like five or six yards 15 right it’s 151 bang on so I thought this would probably be the right Club my seven normally gets like 160 165 160 okay I’ve got a nine my nine usually go about 170 good boy well when I hit the middle I’m happy hitting it 140 if it goes straight on the green I I just want it in play here my Miss is left come on Mr dun 65 yeah made in the UK just like me we hope why is it going right I hit a draw swing oh please be in the bunker oh that’s that’s oh long is it long yeah yeah yeah you’re just on the right side oh yeah I’m I told you fa to it come back here look at the spin why is the spin there the spin of these are so inconsistent I didn’t hit one that badly no no look hit there W yeah stupid b the concentricity of the cause don’t you yeah right Le you don’t have to hit a bunker shot I kind want reaction oh God it’s a proper fried egg this is going to be a real test breakfast as well Jesus this is going to be a real test of my short game skills you are somewhat up against it in this video I must say um I say there’s a good chance this isn’t coming out that’s the spirit yes it is really I think you might be in danger there if I’m being completely honest just got a thumb pit keep the weight moving forward shot what a shot go in in yes come on there we go Alex that’s how you play great shot great shot again land it kind of On The Fringe let it roll out slightly heavy-handed was a little bit I haven’t got the Finesse yet of my short game chances yeah the chance you to get one back here all right left or right sit why is it going left is it left is it right or left no I think that’s the ball that that looked really weird as it was rolling is it it’s got to be oh it must be actually if you look at it from here I think compl misre well I thought I came my ball came out like there and it came around that way so I thought it was um well it’s not I mean it could be the ball it could be we’ll find out again my is my your way yeah if you just whack a te down I finish I finish off okay yeah put the pressure on oh yes oh yes two for it safe safe hey it’s just back to all square did I misread that oh yes all down the last again it didn’t it didn’t go that far I mean that was left there okay it was right to left but it moved it moved in a weird way no the lab gol passer is rendered obsolete oh what a shame you can do it with yours though can’t you oh yeah see what we pot it see what it feels like there we go it feels so weird whates it feel like like a ping pong ball oh it feels so light doesn’t it I think I think it is lighter well all square going down the last after an absolute absolute golf Magic master class so far yeah my passing never changes onto the last 309 yd par forward the Finish yeah all square drivable for some drivable I don’t think with this wind but I’m going to give it give it a good old a whack whack anyway see where we end up bit of space come on can’t win push it left it’s a lovely shot just drifting towards that bunker yeah you’re fine yeah I think it’s just just maybe short of that bunker on the right I think it’d be okay the glass looks short is there just span a little bit too much 4,400 spin very far this is going to do I would say usually I could drive this5 yeah I’m Hing it gets in play I still don’t really know which way it goes well I think it’s I don’t think I don’t think you’ll ever know no just hopefully in play oh yes go tell are fine yeah maybe in that bunker 3600 spin distance um 170 B 16 you still smashed it past me again even with your stupid little old ball godam you’re stupid old ball all right what a play for God damn it you HD it nowhere there not going anywhere all right what you got I’ve got 54 okay um it’s really hard to tell how much green there is to play with well I’m just going to go at the pin it’s brain I could catch a bit of a fire here come on John that looks lovely I he got the legs oh no the sprinkler of Doom oh so [Laughter] unfair that was such a good shot oh God I’m not going find that I am in the bunker I’m in the bunker though okay well it’s not over in that case can you imagine if that happened can you imagine if that happened in a medal how how viewing you would be those clubs will be snapped right so Johnny’s currently looking for his ball I think oh you found it got it damn it I mean that’s yeah that’s good got nightmare is Chip well 30 yard bunker shot I said last week that I think I figured out bunker shots now with the pressure on I’m not too sure especially when it’s this hard I’m going to go left the pin you got to go over two bunkers I know I can see sorry that was mean come on Alex Christ shut up I’m nervous Brian Harmon I’m nervous no it’s because I need to see the grooves okay I got it go yeah fair play that’s good from there oh waggle more next time you [Laughter] little I need to need to land this like here sit sit sit it’s a great shot I mean really good shot that’s not bad from there I’ll take it yeah got a chance he’s got a chance I have no idea what I’m doing yeah please C little flag all right I think it’s right to left what it feels like right to left definitely the first straightens up a bit I feel like I have to hit the ball harder yeah I know what you mean cuz it feels so it feels so light off the face doesn’t it oh that is golf in that all right come on John that b isn’t there I can’t get a consistent roll slightly off the left well maybe off off the right God I’m so bad at reading greens that’s a spirit what what do you think it is well i’ I’ve thought it was left to right but I’m now I look at it from up here I think it’s right slightly right to left so maybe it’s just straight straight yeah it’s a great part it’s a great part you can have that there’s no justice in the world no you can have that there you go like a did out your ball thank very oh which way it’s a bit there you go to win the match to win the match no pressure it’s pretty straight on it feel pressure oh very good Mr Lodge well played sir well very enjoyable match very enjoyable video here at golf magic of 1974 against 2024 I think this ball is slowly starting to crack and wear away um and I feel like our golf our golf games would as well after a um a few more holes that’s not durability is not terrible I thought it was a bit of dust on it it was the sand from the the bunker I reckon this ball would probably last one round I think just because it’s made of elastic the core is decidedly inconsistent um as you guys saw at the start of this video it’s uh very old it’s made of some really weird stuff but a fun video nonetheless and also C Chrome tour blls in 2024 are far far better yes I mean that was pilot error and a little bit of oh no the sprinkler of Doom just Lu 100% but they’re going to change going forward in the next 5 years and actually we’ve got a golf ball I’ve got a golf ball back home that is very close to being the suggested roll back ball so if you guys want to see that video of me against Johnny I’m squeezing this
