made it look the way made it look the [Music] [Applause] [Music] way well that hit pretty good but I got kind of a unique video today guys cuz I’m throwing the oldest reactive resin bowling ball to ever hit the market this is the X Caliber courtesy of my good buddy Michael who’s actually behind the camera right now anyways this ball hit the market in 1991 and I’m not endorsing it or anything I just want to see how it Stacks up against today’s technology I just kind of want to see how it rolled this was sitting in Michael’s garage and it’s like I said the first ever reacted resin bowling ball so that’s kind of cool we’re going to see how high we can shoot with it I’m bowling on the carry down house shot right now so I have no idea what to expect out of this you guys saw the first shot it was pretty flush but I’m playing way straighter than I normally would on a house shot but uh we’re going to see how high we can shoot color-wise it kind of reminds me of the hustle wine from Storm if any of you have ever thrown that that’s kind of what I would anticipate this being similar to cuz weaker ball hustle a weaker ball [Music] that’s a nasty messenger yeah on that five kind of disgusting execution wise I thought it was a 10 result wise it was about a 2 and a half well uh could be worse I have to tell you guys we do watch this thank you that’s awesome we watch you guys like all the time that’s sick I’m sorry I just no don’t be sorry that’s awesome awes thanks for watching the videos yeah are you in Forest Chris nice to meet you Chris so like literally like I didn’t know what days you guys come here like I was [Music] like I is it hit so hard though you know what this reminds me of that video you did with Aaron when you were throwing that super old uh ball from 1960 or something lt48 yeah it like it hooks when it touches the lane and it simmers off and like pounds the pocket although I did almost 5’7 on this Lane so what do you think should we make a move what do you think cameraman I’m just holding the camera all right thanks [Music] yep almost 57 again I know so it must be the lane right I would say move half a board right but they’ll go high true let’s play the 5 seven shot yeah hey on 280 Pace not too shabby my Hing this ball is 240 I could definitely say that reative balls have come a really long way since this because this was like the first of its kind and it’s now one of the weakest balls I would consider on the market today [Music] 240 baby coming for you I say it looks pretty good so far mine is to 57 all right he mentioned moving half a board right so I’m going to try don’t do it I’m doing it here comes the four pin here comes the 36910 I’ll say [Music] it I guess a good coach after all that’ll be five bucks you said you just cameraman five bucks I don’t have any money is this 15 lb 14 okay that makes more sense that’s why I’m throwing it so fast I was like there’s no way I’m naturally throwing an 185 I sure it’s not cuz you’re just getting so strong [Music] no th that one pretty bad why’d you do that I don’t know sad can you see how much oil this ball is absorbing feel like you can see my reflection off of it BR you actually can look you guys see yourself there see that’s where modern day reactive would have made that turn cuz that was like a board rot of my [Music] target it did not come back people always ask me when I say carry down in the comments what carry down means essentially when a pattern is fresh like they freshly put oil out and then people throw balls on them all day what happens is the oil gets literally pushed down the lane so that there’s more oil toward the end of the lane than at the beginning of the lane meaning when your ball hits the lane it hooks early and then it just goes straight once it hits the second half of the lane that’s what we mean by carry down push oh what what was that hard so we determined that this Lane is definitely hooking earlier cuz hooking is what you get out of my face it’s funny all right well I can pick this up though so we’ve confirmed it can pick up spares and it can shoot over 200 but can it strike out in the 10th for $100 from 220 average Bower what have I done you say ne Butters what have I done I think you said NE Butters [Laughter] let’s go bad part is I threw that one better than the one before let’s go let’s go why is that Lan so tight you are now 220 average Buller don’t you say that don’t you ever say that oh yeah bro let’s go 22s are dang it last thoughts on the ball yeah I guess it’s probably a drasic change going from urethane to that because it’s a totally different motion than urethane especially the old urethanes from back in like the 1980s yeah cuz the urethanes today are actually pretty strong I agree but like the old urethanes are just like straight arrows yeah and then going to that but that compared to today’s technology would not stack up very well against the high performance stuff like you probably wouldn’t be able to really throw this on anything with any type of heavy volume or length but still fun regardless thank you all for watching I’m probably going to continue a series where I throw a lot of Michael’s different Creations so stay tuned for more of those if you enjoyed hit the like button subscribe to the channel see you all in the next one later [Music]

  1. Crazy to see how it hooks at the arrows almost. Forest, question so being on staff how does that work when making videos like this. Do you get in trouble or do you just have to make a disclaimer like you did at first?

  2. There’s a guy on my Monday league that uses a X caliber and I have a 90’s Teal Rhino Pro but I don’t use it lol

  3. I remember Going from 205 to 215 in just a few weeks back in the day blue hammer hit and X were night and day difference good times miss those days…😊😊😊😊😊😊😊

  4. Those balls amplified the prevailing lower rev higher axis rotation releases of that time. They were competing with 1st generation urethane, and were beasts by comparison

  5. Owned this ball back when it first came out. Taking it to the long-gone Riverdale Lanes (where Mike Lichstein cut his teeth), would go ~54' straight up 4 before making a left turn at Albuquerque and annihilating the rack.

  6. I had one of these. I worked in a pro shop and we got one in 15#, and none of the other macho guys were willing to throw it. It went sideways compared to my blue hammer, which was one of the hookingest ball on the market at the time.

  7. Michael: you're now 220 average bowler

Me: well atleast he can bowl a 220 average, unlike the actual 220 average bowler

  8. On synthetic lanes that ball struggles to move, however on wood the X-caliber probably would do a little better. Back in the 90s Xcaliber, Rhino Pro, purple and teal, turbo X

  9. I have an Ebonite Crush/R which I believe was manufactured in 1990. Back in the day I the threw an 808 with it. I found another one, undrilled, so I had to buy it. This ball is a reactive ball from 1990.

  10. I remember driving to San Jose after seeing it on TV. Bought it at Futurama bowl I think. Bought it blank for 200. Friend drilled it and shot 798 first night. Missed 10 pin cost me 800. 😆

  11. Nutter butters. Why does Mikey hate nutter butters? Lol, I really want to see him wearing the nutter butters t-shirt.

  12. I still have this ball, along with the Ebonite Turbo/X in a bag, both at 16lbs. I was bowling Collegiates when this ball came out, and like others, was still throwing urethane at the time. After that tournament, I immediately went to my PSO, and got both of these drilled. Hardest hooking balls at the time, when kids were asking how it was hooking more than everything they had at their dullest. For this ball to still hit as hard as it is while others that are softer crack says a lot about the durability of this ball, let alone possible usability.

  13. When the Xcalibur came out, one of its biggest flaws was it "ran out" of "Reactive" reaction. They eventually brought out a Cleaning Product used in 2 Stages to Clean, and then "re-activate" the Resin…. It was quickly overtaken by Balls that needed less maintenance….

  14. I suddenly developed a really sore wrist, discovered last night when I started bowling practice. I have a tournament to play on Friday. Anyone with a good suggestion how one might mitigate this issue to get through a tournament? .. I have taken some anti-inflammatory medication and considering using one of my bowling wrist braces (doesn't restrict release), but aside from that perhaps someone has had to work through the same thing and may have a good recommendation (other than, don't use it 😁)?

BTW, I love that ball .. so cool that Michael was able to acquire that. Watched his first video with it a while back. Very cool bowling ball.

  15. The "first" X-Calibers had a distinct purple haze to them. Later, after Columbia took it over and it has the look of the ball you are throwing and was less reactive. The original ones were devastating and snapped hard. XCalibur also made a softer blue shell which most people dont even know existed. This cover was literally so soft that you could rub your fingers off the cover like it was gumball texture. My friend bought the blue one when we both got purples. He shot a massive 800+ series the first time he used it in a tournament. I dont know whatever happened to the blue one, as that was the only one I ever saw one.

  16. I never had one of those specific balls back in the day, but in defense of it: It's old. I guarantee you it's not as good as it was when it was new. Nowhere near as much friction. If you could somehow time portal one from 91 to now and drill it brand new, I bet it'd stack up very well.
I remember the first reactive I had, a Piranha C, Green. I hadn't bowled for about 4 years. Started back, had all urethane and plastic, and was scratching my head over why I couldn't hook the ball much. I usually threw a pretty strong ball. Was using a Blue Hammer, (hookingest urethane I had ever seen) that was drilled with thumb and negative side and sanded, to hook early, and trying to tear the cover off of it and it just would barely move. Pro shop guy who had known me since I was a kid watched and said "I'll drill you one up, it's not you it's the ball". I was skeptical. Then I went in when he was about done and say him drilling a shiny pearl ball and was REALLY skeptical.
Went and through it, slow because I just KNEW it wasn't going to hook. Hooked off the lane. I was a believer then.

  17. I would love to get my hands on another Xcalibur, I had it when it first came out ! Can you send me that one ?

  18. had friend bowl 7 plus 300's in less than one year with that ball, the ball is more famous , than forrest and there won't be any carryover from one to the other

  19. forrest I see video with tape covered ball, try doing videos with tape over the mouth see how that works, lol

  20. I have to imagine that the reaction as a ball that is over 30 years old is a bit different than when it was new. I have a Track Synergy that I still take out from time to time.

  21. See if you can find a lime green Nitro reactive…..one of the early reactives and it was a great ball too.

  22. So called 220 average bowler doesn't know something even i know

    That ball,only came in 15lb and 16lb

  23. For those who might not know the history of this ball, look up the 1992 PBA AC-Delco Classic. It’s the first telecast where this ball was thrown. Bo Burton the commentator could not even wrap his mind around how sharp it was breaking for the time. It really is fascinating to go back and watch.

  24. When that ball first came out, it was unusable on many lanes. Hooked way too much. Funny how things have changed.

  25. I always wondered if people just came up to you guys and fanned out. So cool to include that interaction! She was so excited to meet you guys 🤣
