[Music] this [Music] [Music] [Music] hello and welcome into the 247 Sports football recruiting podcast I’m National recruiting analyst CNO alongside 247 Sports director of scouting Andrew Ivans we got a great show for you today prospects flying off the board at every corner uh and one of those guys you just saw top 247 defensive lineman J on Campbell the number one player in Kentucky we’ll get to him in a minute also team surging in the rankings as well Ohio state Alabama Georgia Oregon talk a little bit a little bit about Wisconsin later in the show and then we’ll recap future 50 over the weekend but Drew before we do that uh dude you had some fun super jealous uh partying with the Stanley Cup this weekend tell me about that was that just like a lifelong dream come true um yeah I mean I drank out of the Stanley Cup on Sunday after the Panthers parade uh um initially wasn’t going to participate kind of was at like a team party then I was like um why not I mean I’m never going to have the opportunity probably to do that again so yeah I was at the Stanley Cup Parade on Sunday after Cooper really a busy few days we’re at the future 50 I also stopped by fbu’s Top Gun where some All American Bull invites went out on uh Sunday so fun weekend and then man you just get on 247sports.com everyone is committing and it’s not going to stop anytime soon July 4th is like the new signing day we’ve been saying this the past few years uh commitments decisions live streams on the 247 Sports YouTube Network it’s going to be a busy few days and I can’t wait to recap everything that’s happened here uh really since the last time we were on last Wednesday all right one of those guys that just recently committed like we talked about on the top of the show jvon Campbell top 247 defensive lineman and Drew a guy that’s steadily worked his way up the board the number 109 player in the country number 15 defensive lineman a guy that’s only been playing football for a couple years basketball background Drew we love this kid and this really kind of came down to Mark STS kayin dor Kentucky and Alabama at the end of the day but to keep this guy at home uh it’s it’s big for Mark Stoops in a lot of ways but just in terms of the player man we got him just tucked inside the top 120 but I think this is a dude obviously you you talk more and more about the background and him St still getting familiar with the game I think Sky’s a limit for jvon Campbell Koopa I would agree with you I mean we roll the dice kind of moving him up into the top 247 didn’t have many measurements on him you know one school told me he’s right at 64 270 they think he’s going to be 310 lbs at The Next Level Kentucky getting this why does it matter I mean this is kind of the M Mo for Mark stops I love what they’re doing on the defensive side of the ball they started the day with the nation’s number 25 ranked recruiting class Javon Campbell is going to move them up a little bit but you talk about him Cedric Works another top 247 pass rusher that they picked up a pledge from Recently uh they also got Andrew purcel a cornerback we like jacen Ferguson a corner we like this is what Kentucky does and Cooper the past four NFL drafts kuy had 10 total uh players selected whether it was day one day two day three they’re going to have another come off the board this upcoming year uh and dlon Walker they get it done on the defensive side of the ball last year’s recruiting class finished number 26 overall it was loaded with guys in that front seven and then they always seem to have some running backs that uh sign up to play there in Kentucky I really like this recruiting class two quarterbacks committed Brennan Ward Stone Saunders one’s kind of traits the other more pure passer I mean look out for Kentucky in this recruiting class because we know Mark Stoops can win games and now he’s getting more talent that He hasn’t been able to recruit and get a foot in the door with in the past Kentucky now up to number 25 in the 247 Sports composite team rankings and Drew uh as well as we look at Kentucky into the top 25 how about the battle for number one right now you got teams like Ohio state Alabama Georgia Oregon in there and let’s start at the top with Ohio State they’ve been busy on the recruiting Trail 22 commitments 304 points according to 247 Sports there you see the ranking system there in the breakdown three five stars four excuse me 15 four stars and they added Maxwell Roy and tranm Maxwell Roy the top 247 Defender defensive line lineman and Tran odm another one uh from North Carolina as well Drew Larry Johnson known for really kind of what he does on the edge uh in terms of getting pass rushers to Columbus now they add some interior beef as well what do you like about these two pickups I just like it’s the defensive line hall in general you said it Maxwell Roy Tren Odum those are both guys that can hold up traffic in the middle Maxwell Roy with a uh wrestling background he comes from the Philadelphia area St Joseph’s High School which Ohio state has had a ton of success with in the past but they’re pairing those two interior guys with uh zier matthysse Zion Grady Landon Merritt you think one of those guys is going to hit so much so up up to this point in the cycle when we talk about Ohio State it’s been okay the two fstar corners it’s been Tavi and stclair but I think it’s kind of notable what they are doing on the defensive line with that pass rush look Cooper if you took this Ohio State class these 22 commits the amount of points they have this group would finish third last cycle in the 2024 so Ohio State as we sit right now heading into July 4th they have a legitimate chance at the number one ranked recruiting class still some different recruits out there I think it’s impressive and I like these two pickups for them because you’re pairing them with some Edge rushers that can get after the quarterback Buckey sitting at number one how about the team sitting at number two Kaylin deor and Alabama and Drew you and I were talking on the phone last night is this where we expected kayin deor to be the biggest question mark about kayin deor when he came over from Washington to Tuscaloosa was can he fill the shoes of Nick Sabin not only on the field but on the recruiting Trail as well so far so good Alabama’s got uh 20 commitments so far they’re behind Ohio State a little bit of separation between those two schools but they’re in front of Georgia they’re in front of Oregon kayin dbor Courtney Morgan those guys answering a lot of questions on the recruiting Trail Drew they go out and they add uh probably two of our favorite prospects personally here in the last couple days about toan Lee the number 40 player in the country number four quarterback from vijo in California Dawson Merritt from Kansas number 62 overall number six linebacker that can do a lot of different things you look at this Alabama Clash through they’ve answered a lot of questions across the board you throw in a guy like keln Russell in the middle that quarterback position so important to kayin abor and his offense things look pretty good in Tuscaloosa so far they do Cooper and I think what stands out about this group I just raved about the defensive class for Kentucky how about this Defensive class for the Crimson Tide kayin is known for scoring a ton of points that’s how he got Washington to the college football playoff they light up scoreboards they do it with the quarterback position but the strength of this group so far is on defense and over the weekend they had two you know freak athletes right um DJ Lee one of our favorite Corners out there sitting number uh 40 right now in our rankings he’s a guy that’s going to have a chance to finish with a fifth star next to his name then you got Dawson Merritt right you pair them with zir Smith with Daryl Johnson uh Eric Smith Chuck McDonald really this defensive group I think it stands out a lot dejon Lee one of my favorites out there you know he’s over 6’3 pushing 6’4 you’re looking for a player comp for him how about Pat serain and I know Pat serain is a little bit faster uh in the 100 meter dash but he was also a big frame corner and coup you go back to Pat rain’s 200 meter dash time 2214 in high school djon Lee 2215 you throw in that 46t uh triple jump and there’s a lot to like about djon Lee and I know you like Dawson Merritt yeah huge fan of Dawson Merritt and I think the biggest thing about Meritt Lee you talked about the versatility a little bit you talked to some people around Alabama in that program I think toan Lee they’re super comfortable yeah they’re going to start him on the perimeter but another guy that could end up playing safety maybe that boundary safety role you watch the Jean Lee workout Drew to me he’s got enough athletic juice at 64 and a quarter to stick out on the perimeter to be that type of athlete with that type of size certainly says a lot about DJ Lee and then the other guy Dawson Mary Drew you mentioned I think a guy that you can play uh on ball situationally off the edge and I think a guy that’s very comfortable as a second level Defender the arrow pointing up there a little bit longer than we thought 62 plus 34 in arms he’s got some stuff to him athletically as well so Alabama getting it done on the recruiting Trail as Kaylin neor and the staff there continuing to chip away as they try to make up uh a little bit of ground on Ohio State right now inching for the number one spot Drew what’s a race for number one without talking about Kirby Smart in the University of Georgia currently sitting at number three in the 247 Sports composite team rankings and they added a player outside of the top 247 but a three star that we like and has kind of emerged very quickly behind the SCS here at 247 Sports about Landon Roland the number 65 receiver in the country and Drew a guy that had over a thousand yards receiving you turn on the tape you and I kind of looked at each other along with Gabe Brooks Hudson sish and Greg Biggins and said does this guy remind you a little of anybody and yeah lad makoni a little bit and I can see why people can probably jump to conclusions on why we kind of went with that comparison but this guy his ability to get vertical create separation down the field I love his run after catch ability as well Drew this is one of those guys that maybe you don’t make so much of it when it actually happens but you can see three to four years down the line this guy being a total pain in the rear end for everybody in the SEC yeah and I don’t think we’re the only ones that’s compared him to Lad Maki apparently Geor uh Kirby Smart and the Georgia staff said the same thing after he ripped off a 437 uh in the 40 yard dash at one of their summer camps this is a guy that’s a late bloomer but you turn on the tape a region Player of the Year crafty route Runner you said it run after the catch I love how he attacks vertically he sets up defensive backs I think Georgia is a little ahead of the curve here when we talk about where college football is Right name image likeness where could potentially get to a salary cap in theory yes if we’re playing EA Sports 2025 you want to go for all the five stars but uh you can’t get them all not with the uh what What’s the price tags on some of these guys you have to get programed type of individuals Landon Roland to me is someone that can be a special teams Ace he’s got multiple return touchdowns on the Highlight Reel this is a perfect take for Georgia you pair him with some of the other receivers they already got committed I think it makes a ton of sense I’m excited to see what Georgia can do with some of these other visitors you said it there at number three in the rankings right now they’re behind Ohio state they’re behind Alabama we know Kirby Smart’s going to finish strong and I think over the next few weeks we’re only going to see more big names jump in the boat for the Bulldogs all right if you had to handicap a jur you got three powerhouses uh three of the best recruiting programs over the last decade let’s call it that especially with Georgia since 2018 uh and Kirby Smart when he arrived I believe 2017 excuse me Drew if you had to put money down right now between Ohio state Alabama and Georgia and I think that’s pretty fair to say this is a three- team Race for number one we’re sitting here uh first week of July who would you put your money on who would you be uh um talking about as the betting favorite can I take a long shot I mean what about Oregon they’ve shot up into the top 10 they only got 14 prospects committed their one I have my eye on just because of Dan Lanning I always go back to the image of him uh on the signing days with the cigar we know that he’s going to have some fireworks out there and really over the past few days we’ve seen uh this recruiting class come together they get Dorian Brew our number seven ranked quarterback in the boat deshun bra a tight end that was between Oregon and Tennessee back and forth I was with Tom ly at the future 50 he told me uh one night it was going to be Tennesse the next morning he says it’s back to Oregon and I think that’s Dan Lanning working very hard behind the scenes Jordan Davidson a running back gets in I just look at the prospects that Oregon is in I think about their situation uh the collective the name IM likeness I think there’s someone that is a dark horse to finish potentially with the number one class now we have to get out the class calculator but they’re the school I have my eye on right now as we head into July 4th weekend as someone that could shoot even higher potentially into that top three all right so we got Oregon at number six the danal still a lot of work to do they they’ve just climbed very quickly it wouldn’t uh just a few short months ago we’re getting questions what’s happening with Oregon Recruiting uh Ducks fans I think you have your answer there a lot to be happy about we got more or oron right after this guys remember you are tuned in to the 24/7 Sports football recruiting podcast you can find Andrew and I every Tuesday and Wednesday at noon eastern time make sure to tell a friend and like And subscribe and if you have viewer questions make sure to submit those now on the 247 Sports YouTube channel we got the Ducks we got the canes we got the NES and we got a little bit of Wisconsin coming up as well but Drew let’s stick with Oregon uh you talked about the danan bra a little bit also Jordan Davidson out modern day they add him to the backfield uh two other guys Dorian Brew Top 247 Defender a guy that only played in five games last year how about this one Drew I want to talk about this kid and I hope you’ve watched him before we get into it Josiah Sharma number 42 defensive lineman in the country uh and a guy that has a lot to like two-way snaps you think about his ability almost 300 lb 292 lbs uh worked out in Seattle at the UA next combine Drew I turned on the tape this morning and it just kind of came uh ringing me a little bit bigger of a conversation philosophically here Dan Lanning and his staff will continue to just take players like this continuously he kind of reminded me a little bit uh of St Stefan shyers currently committed to Georgia but this is a big kid with a lot to work with a lot of physical clay I like the combine a lot more than I like the tape but it made me think to myself all right out of the four teams and that West Coast footprint going from the Pack 12 to the Big 10 who else is recruiting like the Ducks right now at the point of attack not USC Washington is is TBD will give we’ll give Jed fish some time and UCLA is kind of out of the question for me Drew like if you were Dan Landing why would you ever leave Oregon if it’s just going to be shooting fish in the barrel year after year when it comes to point of attack players yeah I mean jaquin mcroy Jero Johnson last cycle compared them with Elijah rushing Aiden Breeland we’ve talked about Demetrius Manning the o line commit that Oregon’s got so far you can see the emphasis on the point of attack and I know this isn’t a trench player but to me Dorian Brew the fact that Oregon gets him committed I mean this is a six- foot corner at 200 in pounds and I think when you look at the two deep you look at the roster there they’ve needed some size at corner they got iffy o o OBU who we really liked at the Under Armour Camp last cycle besides that it’s a lot of smaller guys Dorian Brew to me is someone that you can play in a boundary role and you think about moving into the Big 10 where ‘s a more of an emphasis on the Run game right your your perimeter players have to tackle I think Dorian can Brew brew can do just that he’s had an interesting path he’s bounced around high schools he’s played in that spring league but this is a big pickup for them they’re also in it for DJ picket uh Dorian Brew is the one that jumps out to me in addition to kind of those trench players what they’re doing uh you know I wrote about it for CBS Sports uh last week Cooper talking about USC and them getting into Georgia going after Justice Terry going after Elijah Griffin going after Isaiah Gibson and to me you know those are all priority targets for Georgia it seems like Dan Lanning is finding ways to uh add a bunch of mass in these big bodies but avoid recruiting battles with Kirby Smart right he understands where George’s targets are and he’s going to go find that beef somewhere else I think Lincoln Riley could take a page from him right stop going for George’s plan A’s you know find maybe their plan B’s or someone else uh in another part of the country it makes a ton of sense for Oregon and and really you know he he has the ends when it comes to the the big bodies on the west coast yeah Sharma Demitri Manning on the offensive side of the ball you talked about jquan mccroy last year a guy out of the state of Alabama was kind of a plan B for some of those schools Auburn wanted them ends up going out all the way to the Pacific Northwest and Landing certainly building a reputation for Player Development as well Drew one of those other schools that I mentioned getting hot right now how about Miami we thought hey when is it really going to start the fall in place for the canes Mario christall they’re up to number 15 in the rankings now 15 commitments a lot of work left to do as well that should make you really excited if you’re a Miami fan how about this run Gavin Nicks top 100 player for us number 11 linebacker in the country Chris Ewald number 29 Corner the four star out of the state of Florida Max Buchanan number 42 interior offensive lineman and Herbert Scroggins number 37 Edge from Savannah Georgia Drew I like this group a lot but I’m going to tee you up where do you want to start uh with the I would say l of Miami commitments uh over the weekend I think it’s Gavin Nicks right out of IMG Academy you know he isn’t the biggest linebacker might be a little Tapped Out 6 foot 225 lounds but man this guy plays with his hair on fire uh reminds me a little bit of ncoe Dean in the sense of how he reads and reacts his X Factor is the in instincts how he how he triggers and gets to the football I think this is a huge pickup for Miami I mean Dan landing and Oregon were involved Florida state was involved this is a guy that Miami had to work for and I think he could be a multi-year impact type of player for them uh in that defensive scheme right they asked their linebackers to do a lot I think he’s one of the best in the class when it comes to okay see football go get football I’ll sift through traffic he’s serviceable in coverage you know he can get home on the blitz so I think that’s a really big pickup for Miami and I think there’s more good news coming on the way Drake stubs uh the top 247 safety recently decommitted from USC I ran into him at the fbu Top Gun event he’s wearing some Miami gloves Miami set it up where they’re going to have some fireworks here in the month of July which has been the case under Mario Chris ball in the past yeah I talked to uh coach Chris Ball this morning he’s out in Utah uh for vacation enjoying some time off but uh Miami certainly a lot of work to be done Drew uh thoughts on some of these other guys Chris Ewald is certainly an interesting evaluation out of shamanam Madonna a guy at 6’ Plus on the ladder side floating around 160 5 lbs what do you like about that pickup and what do you think about his chances kind of developing into a multi-year highlevel starter there in Coral Gables well I think he’s one of the most competitive corners and battle tested here in the sunshine state I mean think about it Chris Ewald spent the past few years going up against Jeremiah Smith and JoJo Trader at shyan Madonna prep he’s a guy that’s going to take some risks he’s going to get beat uh but he plays the football he tries to bait quarterbacks into into the decisions you said it with the the size I think he’s going to need to bulk up a little bit to hang out on the perimeter but someone that’s very versed in man coverage uh in a win for Miami at Shaman madon prep I mean that’s a program that turns out a ton of power excuse me power four players every year Miami always involved with them but they can’t seem to get these ones across the Finish Line Miami goes head-to-head with Georgia here uh and gets the job done so I absolutely think he’s someone that can play for the hurricanes and I think he can play multiple spots in the secondary we’ve seen him play a little safety on the seven on seven circuit it’s a nice take for them uh same thing Max Buchanan out of Sanford simol High School Sanford simol their kids usually come in and are ready to play right away interior offensive lineman thought he looked good at the Under Armour camp in Orlando a few years ago multi-year starter uh as well so a a nice kind of Run for the Hurricanes here and like I said I I expect more more guys to jump in the boat yeah and uh you know two other guys outside of that four-star range I mean I want to talk a little bit bit about Buchanan a little bit a guy that plays at at left tackle uh we have slotted to move inside uh 64 and a quarter 270 lbs plus Drew I think actually he can play a little bit of Center guard uh he got multi-positional versatility a guy that I think fits Miami a lot and a high floor player can probably play a little bit sooner than later than the her Herbert scrogin kid super interesting kid Drew I don’t know what you think about it about him out of the state of Georgia but high octane kind of reminds me a little bit of jamonte Waller and then the other kid uh that signed with Texas s m last year kind of uh escaping my mind right now the edge that worked his way in the top 247 but I mean you talk about motor you talk about get off you talk about this guy’s ability to finish plays uh some good recruiting good scouting there from Miami yeah and then scroggin is a kid that I saw when Luke croman Hawk was uh one of his first games when Benedict came down and played in in Miami look measurables might not be there we’ve seen what Miami’s been able to do with Ruben Bane I think sometimes these schools you know they get a little caught up in the size but he’s a guy that can get after the quarterback quick twitch off the edge and think about Jason Taylor there uh at Miami his ability to coach up that edge group I think it makes a ton of sense all right Drew let’s stick in the Sunshine State how about Florida State uh only nine commitments under double digits they’re up to number 36 in the rankings they add Gregory Xavier Thomas top 247 safety they also add another top 247 Edition and myON Charles out of the state of Florida Chase Lofton number 25 tied end from Nebraska as well as Mike Norvell in his staff try to R ramp things up on the recruiting Trail Drew what do you think about these Trio of commits for the nuls oh Greg xavy Thomas uh coup we saw him at the ot7 finals as we found out hey he’s going to be the first uh member of the seminal tribe to actually play for the seminal this was a battle with the Clemson Tigers and to me someone I’ve been very high on right uh Gregory Xavier Thomas you know is he a corner is he a safety we initially listed him as a corner we moved him to safety now I to move him back to corner and I think that’s where Florida State’s going to give him a chance really impressed not only uh at overtime ot7 event when he was matched up with Chris Henry Jr our number one ranked wide receiver in the class of 2026 but you go back to the game tape American Heritage uh versus shamadan Madonna he held his own against uh Jeremiah Smith I’ve said this all the time in the past would always roll the dice on a DB out of American Heritage those guys tend to hit Gregory Thomas he’s got the size you know might not have a true true top end gear but he’s physical he can play in a bump and run system uh and Pat serain he’s now the DB coach there uh at Florida State he did an excellent job of of developing that relationship at a school he used to coach at and getting that job done I think it’s a really cool story and Gregor Gregory Xavier Thomas a kid you want to root for just spending some time around him all right Drew um before we before we get to Wisconsin a little bit of Wisconsin your thoughts on my and Charles I know this was a guy that’s pretty you talked to some uh colleges around the country there’s a little bit of kind of everything on the feedback of my and Charles to me I I I like this fit in Tallahassee for my and Charles just kind of looking at their track record what they’ve been able to do at the defensive line I don’t think this is going to be a guy that’s going to come in and be able to make an impact immediately but two to three years down the line I really like his chances of working out there yeah I I would agree with that Cooper I mean you see the physical specs you see them in the combine setting there’s a lot to like and I think when you turn on the game tape right not the highlights there’s a little bit to be desired from a production standpoint but he’s a rare body type in the Sunshine State this cycle you know and Florida State made him a priority from the jump and they get him on board I think the biggest thing is going to be getting my and Charles to buy in there in Tallahassee Odell Hagen the defensive line coach he’s going to have to work with him uh but if Daniel Lions can hit there in Tallahassee then why can’t uh myON Charles so I think it’s a sneaky good pickup in the sense that okay there’s not a lot of these body types in the State of Florida and they get him committed now they got to get him signed uh but definitely a play and he is someone that has a chance a high ceiling right high ceiling he can absolutely Make Some Noise there in the ACC all right Drew let’s talk a little bit of Luke fickle Wisconsin and this is a team that continues to kind of improve their stock in terms of talent identification evaluation we know the Player Development background of Luke fickle as well dating back to his days at Cincinnati you look at what they’ve done Drew three four stars in the boat two of those guys in the top 247 including Mason Posta Logan Powell as well they pick up Hardy Watts out of Massachusetts uh one of the top ranked interior offensive lineman in the country they also pick up Nicholas Clayton last week as well a guy that had a ton of Interest out of the state of Florida Drew you just kind of get the feel that it’s all starting to come together for Wisconsin in terms of what they’re trying to get done on the recruiting side of things yeah absolutely I mean we talked to Nick Clayton I think in multiple podcasts now the edge rusher out of the state of Florida I think it’s a a huge pickup for them his ability to go speed to power how he can bend uh and then the projectable frame what really stands out to me about Wisconsin is that offensive line group remember last year it was Kevin Haywood uh Emerson mandle a few other interior guys they followed up with Logan pal Hardy Watts like you said Noel DAV Port out of Ohio I think he’s a a nice pickup for them in terms of the traits he has the frame he has to work at UH to work with to me coup kind of I just look at what Wisconsin’s done this cycle what they did last cycle my question is Wide Receiver right can they add a game breaker I’ve lik the guys they’ve got committed so far I mean they got Ty Y Hilton Eugene Hilton’s kid uh cam Miller but really kind of that game breaker and that’s where I’m going to have my eyes moving forward with wi uh with Wisconsin can they find a true wide receiver one but really this recruiting class coup I’ve said this before you know I think all 32 NFL teams are going to make Wisconsin’s prod day a must stop in the coming year just because of the traits the talent they are bringing up these are guys with Sunday potential and that seems to be the theme with last year’s recruiting class and this recruiting class as well all right guys if you’re just joining the show busy busy weekend as we get to it uh a lot of players flying off the board committing uh we’ve talked about Oregon we’ve talked about Miami Florida state Wisconsin on the show we’ve also talked about the race for number one as Alabama Georgia in Ohio State Ohio State uh being number one right now trying to hold on to that top spot and we got a lot more coming but before we do that guys make sure to send in your questions we’ll get the viewer questions at the end of the show and as always we got our friend Tom lyd jumping in the chat so if you have any questions for him especially as it pertains to where uh a favorite player or two might be leaning to your favorite program make sure to get those questions in now our friend Tom ly will be sure to answer those and Drew a busy busy busy busy busy transaction wireing let’s start at the top with the festar tight end Lincoln cure out of the state of Kansas what a year in the state of Kansas it’s been the number two tight end in the country number 26 player overall Drew Kansas State Oregon a handful of others battling it out for one of the best players in the land it’s Kansas State at the end of the day that ends up getting this one done 66 220 with every track and field Accolade you could possibly imagine as well drew a huge pickup for Kansas State and that cannot be understated yeah CP he could be the highest ranked sinee ever for the Wildcats I wrote about it in my CBS boards column like the big 12 to me is fascinating in terms of okay who’s going to finish with that number one rank class we’re talking about you know nationally who’s going to finish number one but who’s going to have the top group in the Big 12 and I think you know really that’s the question about the conference who’s going to take that step forward to me Lincoln cure for a tight end I mean he checks off box after box he’s an outside receiver tons of growth potential you mentioned the track how about the basketball Cooper scored 14 points in the State title game he does it all also works on a farm uh me and Tom ly were talking to him last week he was like covered in mud uh he says there’s no five star that works harder for him uh than him so Lincoln cure guy we’re going to get in the All-American bowl a huge huge pick up and a potential difference maker there in the Big 12 all right Drew let me tee you up on the next couple uh and a guy that you want to talk about and we don’t really talk about this program much on this show how about vek uh Matthew outon the guy that you wanted to highlight Drew uh top 247 athlete number 139 in the country number five athlete uh in the top 247 as well why do you like this pickup for Brent pry well you know he’s another one where like the the track and field metrics get you fired up and he ran I believe the third fastest 40- yard dash at the national combine back in in January right talking about over a thousand kids usually a slower track went 458 and then you put on the game tape right catch and run ability plays a little Wildcat quarterback thick frame good contact balance I actually like him on defense in terms of how he seeks contact hits people gets to the football really good pickup for Virginia Tech they’re sitting number 42 in the rankings right now just 14 commits but 10 of them are in state they also add Jeff Overton over the weekend Gatorade Player of the Year in Virginia this past year I don’t think we were talking enough about VT right now Matthew oton is the headliner and again just a three-phase playmaker uh does it with the speed metrics College ready frame I think it’s a guy that Hoke fans should be excited about all right what about Michigan right we were on this show just weeks ago saying where’s Michigan where’s Chiron Moore Julius Holly number 31 Edge out of the state of Georgia commits to the Wolverine true I know you like this one yeah I do and I I just go back to his workout there in Atlanta at the under arour Regional he was an eye-catcher and it was that’s traditionally a a very good group of pass rushers you’re looking for a pass rusher turn on the footage from UA Atlanta and Julius Holly 35 in arms 6’3 220 pounds this is the type of prospect that Michigan traditionally takes and turns into an NFL draft he’s got the developmental traits he’s got the upside I think he’s someone that’s going to need one or two years before he’s ready to go but he plays hard he’s got the motor love this pickup for Michigan and they beat out a number of schools I mean Georgia was sniffing around Stanford which I’m calling Stanford back they were involved with Julius Holly really really liked this pickup eight sacks this past SE season over 50 tackles I think he’s a guy that’s just now figuring out uh and playing his best football all right drew a little bit of Rapid Fire here because there are a lot of names that flew off the board this weekend but let’s start with Cortez Mills top 247 receiver number 21 uh receiver in the country commits to Oklahoma we long thought this was a Clemson Miami battle and this guy I know he’s sitting top 200 in the rankings but had a ton of Interest Drew huge win for Brent vinales and we can get into the player a little bit and I want you to talk about that I think the other thing is you got to take a step back and kind of look at the big picture and maybe some of the Ripple effects here and what are we learning with Clemson losing out on this specific recruitment where it seemed like they LED for the majority of it yeah CP and go back to uh the first weekend of we kind of highlighted it that was Clemson’s only official visitor weekend and we said if these guys don’t commit right away then uh the Tigers is going to have to move to plan B Cortez Mills is someone they felt good about same with Gregory Xavier Thomas those both those guys pick other schools for the fit there uh in Norman I love it Cortez Mills I think he a guy that you play on the inside what he has done at Homestead the past two seasons over a thousand yards in backto back years I just saw him over the weekend at the fbu Top Gun event he was arguably the most productive receiver there no one could cover him right another guy that changes gears that short area quickness he attacks the football okay does he have that track top end speed no but this is a guy that always seems to get open we know what they want to do on offense there in Norman I love this pickup for them it’s a big win down in South Florida which has been pretty rare for the Sooners to see them go all the way down Last Exit uh on 95 to get a prospect I think that’s got to be a first yeah a couple West Coast uh Comm ments as well over the weekend you look at zidus rainy sale from the state of Washington to 247 linebacker big pickup for Jed fish in company with the dogs uh Drew we haven’t really kind of uh dove in on Washington extensively but this is encouraging in the fact that you get a guy like Jed fish understands the importance of keeping players like this home this is one of those early foundational building blocks and really kind of shows you the rest of the way and the path for jetfish in the Huskies if they want to make some noise in the future right Coop and I go back to remember we were doing that transfer portal show and we had a talk about the teams that made the college football playoff I was talking with someone inside that building and you know was kind of where do you guys need to get better the answer was everywhere across the board we need to not only you know Elevate the ceiling of our roster which sounds weird but they lost a ton of individuals to uh the NFL draft but they also need to uh raise the floor and I think zarius rainy sale is the type of prospect that comes in he instantly makes that linebacker room better he makes that defense better is he going to play year one as a freshman I don’t know but he’s someone that could be a two threeyear impact player there for Washington I think what they’ve done here over the past few weeks you know multiple tight ends have committed they’re doing a a really really nice job if you have the eye to look at the recruiting class all right uh couple more to round it out Noah male from California linebacker top 100 player in the country he commits to Texas A&M and Mike Elco and the agies Mari and Dy uh fourstar uh Edge uh out of the state of Indiana number 22 Edge in the country he commits to Tennessee then Cory Sims number 54 receiver uh in the country to USC all big pickups uh not all guys we should gloss over but out of that Trio Drew is there one guy that maybe kind of stands out to you I think it’s Maran Dy to to Tennessee right this is a edge player a ton of schools were interested in you know they continue we always say it with Tennessee we like what they’re doing on defense Maran Di green numbers across the board when it comes to the measurements some where we want to see the production kind of match what he physically has to him but that’s that’s a that’s a pickup in Indiana and one I think as the cycle progresses we’re going to kind of keep coming back to is okay that was a monster win in June maybe when everyone didn’t really realize it yeah big uh freak ISO it as well I mean you talk about a guy that checks every box from a height weight speed standpoint that is marry and Dy then you think about Tennessee right now you got James Pierce Jr you got Jordan Ross right there um on deck and then you throw in Mari and Dy talk about the pass rushers there in Knoxville Tennessee certainly got it going on Cory Sims to USC big physical receiver that we like a lot USC no issues getting it done at that position and then Noah male you talk about an ideal fit guy that can play uh between The Tackle Box tough physical uh stack and shed second level linebacker that’s exactly what the Aggies are getting there and then the last one Smith a rogo uh to Texas number 171 number 22 defensive lineman in the country so there you have it a lot of names flying off the board a lot more than just the names in the top 247 guys just one more reminder you’re locked in to the 247 Sports football recruiting podcast you can find us every Tuesday and Wednesday make sure to like And subscribe we need those likes and we need those subscribers we appreciate you guys watching if you have questions like I said Tom ly is in the chat all right drew the whole gang was in Tampa over the weekend Sarasota Florida Bradon Florida whatever you want to call it got nice tiki bars down there as well for the future 50 and Drew a little bit of five on five football uh is what we saw we saw some individual drills like we’ve seen in the past as well but a little bit kind of of of a lighter feel uh this week around the big men were not there it was all skill position and a lot of the top quarterbacks in the country seven of the top 11 in 2026 were there you had faas and Brandon Dia Bell committed to Texas Brady Smigel committed to Florida State Jaden O’Neal Oklahoma Brady Hart Michigan will Griffin Florida Noah grubs to Notre Dame you and I have talked about this we’ve seen a lot of talented quarterbacks in years past whether it’s Jackson Arnold Malachi Nelson uh Ryan mountgomery uh in this class in 2025 we’ve seen him at this event sometimes it’s really kind of hard to have any finite takeaways from this event U at the future 50 for quarterbacks in particular I and I’m not sure I can’t really kind of put my finger on it uh but we’re going to try uh Drew and just asking you you know the good thing even if it’s just body types you get to see these guys kind of Stack next to each other were were there any takeaways after seeing some of the top arms in the country this weekend yeah well the five on five was interesting right so it was wasn’t seven on seven and that’s because you know flag footballs coming to the 2028 Olympics there were some USA Football personnel there I’m not sure if they were scouting but the five on five quarterbacks have 7 Seconds to throw you can Blitz on any play it’s a 45 yard field and it’s very very narrow right so it’s not wide a ton of space to work with so it’s kind of hard I think Coop you would agree with me to to really figure out what’s going on and evaluate some of these quarterbacks with that being said I thought we saw from faas and Brandon on Friday night he he was great uh you know didn’t put the ball uh in a position you know bad spots he ran for a a long game which again is kind of hard to do on this narrow field you’ll see it right here took off for about 20 yards I thought he hurt his knee uh on that I was like uh this is this is not good but his size I think that’s the the thing that really stood out to me when you put him alongside these other quarterbacks his peers he measured I think one 197 pounds but when you’re around him he looks like he’s 25 so he’s only going to get bigger and I thought Koopa was also notable Not only was he the most most consistent of the quarterbacks during the camp on Saturday morning where they’re throwing to stationary targets and you know there’s some routes on air I I thought he was again you know the best of the bunch in that department but it seemed like the other quarterbacks there right that group when when FaZe and Brandon showed up to check in like those guys kind of you know started respecting him kind of as the alpha of the group and you you get these guys in the camps it’s kind of it’s kind of fun to see all right who’s the guy that’s first in line what’s the ping order and it seems like all the other quarterbacks respected him so I thought it was an overall solid showing you know there were some other media members there that was their first time seeing FaZe and Brandon and they’re like well look I I totally get it the combination of the frame you know the the arm Talent how he’s able to move around it was a really good showing and and CP let’s not forget he’s a one-year starter at at Grimsley High School I think he’s just now figuring it out he’s going to have a a monster Junior season and and senior season as well yeah well one of one of the youngest quarterbacks in the class too you take that into consideration and uh a move that I think at the time a little bit of a calculated shot putting faas and Brandon as the number one player in the country but Drew I think every time that we have seen him he’s kind of cemented himself as that guy that we were willing to take a shot on and certainly a guy uh that is an ascending player uh and put enough on tape and then athletically when you see them uh there’s a lot to be excited about you mentioned the frame here uh I saw him in April uh he was 196 lb then he’s 197 lb now is it fair to say he just kind of looks completely different uh than he looked a couple months ago even though the weight and the body MK kind of looks the same he looks bulked up uh it kind of gets you excited about all right what’s this guy going to look like in in two years playing around 210 pounds no I think I think you’re right I mean he’s going to be 2115 225 another kind of moment I like with him asking him all right you can spend an hour studying film with anyone it could be it could be a head coach it could be NFL quarterback you get one hour they could be alive or dead who is it and koopy told me he’s like Tom Brady and he said that right away he didn’t really have to think about it that’s who you’d want to spend one hour studying film for and I said okay why Tom Brady he’s like well he’s not the most athletically gifted quarterback there is but his ability to uh read and diagnose different coverages and and and you know find the the right target where to put the football he’s like I’d love to have that as part of my game so I thought that was also notable just kind of getting a feel for him as a person uh and to see how he’s wired all right Drew outside of faing Brandon the number one player in the country any any other takeaways with these guys I know you like Jaden O’Neal diaab Bell is one of those guys we’re still trying to kind of figure out a little bit uh it was good seeing him in person for the first time uh any other takeaways when you look at this group uh when talking about the quarterbacks jayen O’neal He was also a a top performer for us you know he’s got a college ready build to him 6’3 I think he was 215 lbs I mean he is someone that can take a hit in the pocket uh a little bit of a sidearm action we saw that in the game was in the games on Friday night but you know tight spirals throughout the camp uh to me when I think about Oklahoma and the quarterbacks that they have brought in in recent Cycles uh last year Michael Hawkins Uh Kevin sper in the 2025 cycle jayen O’Neal is the one I get the most excited about uh and I think if you’re an Oklahoma fan you should feel the same way and he’s someone that’s been at multiple high schools there out in California you know statistically the profile probably isn’t where you want it at but you turn on the game tape his ability to push the ball down the field someone I’m to have a close eye on uh this upcoming season his junior year at narbone there in California uh Brady Hart the Michigan commit I I thought it was a solid showing for him as well really you know you got all these quarterbacks in the Sunshine State right diabel uh will Griffin Noah grubs Brady Hart I’m starting to kind of fall in love with Brady Haren and what he’s able to do won a State title at CoCo you know Drive ball thrower he’s a modern pocket passer it likes to pick you apart from there he doesn’t want to really move him around but another one just the way he’s wired talking to him about why he picked Michigan you know he feels like that is the program that gives them gives him the best chance to succeed so I thought it was a really good showing for him and really all these quarterbacks Cooper I mean uh Brady smeagle uh you know finished second in the accuracy challenge Noah grubs won that accuracy challenge it’s a talented and fun group uh and it’s just it’s weird that a lot of these guys are committed right now uh at this point and and only more and more 2026 quarterbacks are making decisions Drew we got a question uh about Brady Hart in the chat kind of asking about all right what’s his ceiling not only in the high school rankings but eventually as a starter at the next level what what you kind of see for Brady Hart here over the next year or so yeah I mean I think he’s right around got day three great for us I think he’s someone that could potentially push into uh round two he kind of plays in a I don’t want to say it’s like a funky offense but they you know a lot of empty sets there at CoCo he throws a lot of shorter passes a lot of tunnel screens a lot of Swing passes he doesn’t really or I should say he isn’t asked to attack vertically I I think for Michigan you know the combination of taking him after you take Carter Smith here in the 2025 cycle I I think it’s it’s perfect right Carter Smith more of a gritty uh run first not run first but he’s going to beat you with his legs I mean he ran for eight touchdowns in his spring game um and now you’re pairing him with Brady Hart who’s more of that pocket passer so I think he’s someone that could absolutely win at Michigan and I again I think the way that he is wired he understands he’s already friends with Carter Smith um and I think he’s a guy that’s ready to come in and compete and someone that I anticipate having a big Junior season as well all right Drew let’s round it out on some additional eye catchers as we take a look at some of the other positional standouts and guys like kendre Harrison the number six player right now multisport background number one tight in in the country you had kashon Henderson out there committed to Houston and Willie Fritz uh number 19 player number one athlete in the country sedarian Moran a guy that you and I certainly uh love and have a deep infatuation with number 20 player in the country number forward receiver uh jet Washington was another name drew a guy tucked inside the top 32 currently and then Derek Cooper uh top 247 athlete as well let’s start with sedarian Morgan drew uh I knew this was kind of one of your first times seeing him and this was a guy that if you’ve listened to this podcast before interesting it really doesn’t happen a lot but at the time when we put him uh where we did inside the top 32 this guy that only had what Troy Indiana I think uh shout out to to Alabama State uh or one of those teams um now has picked up the rest of the world but Drew just seeing him in person what were your initial thoughts of him I mean the the frame right 6’4 over 200 lbs I thought he was smooth yet explosive and we didn’t get him in one-on ones they didn’t do one-on ones on Saturday morning but everything you wanted to see from routes on air how he got in and out of his breaks how he went up and he attacked the football uh it was a talented and large and athletic group of wide receivers and I thought sedarian Morgan he was at the top of the board for me personally right uh we have him number 20 in the country he might be a little low compared to some of these other guys we we have ranked in the 2026 cycle so easy to see why Everyone likes him I thought you know for a guy that you drop into this type of setting and he’s not someone that plays a ton on seven on seven he’s not someone that’s been at all these camps everything you wanted to see from him all right uh last two and we’ll get out on these uh talk to me about Sean Henderson cuz I know this is one of the more kind of like fun enjoyable players that we’ll watch uh certainly a guy that can get it done offense defense whatever but you think about the fit in Houston with Willie Fritz it gets you pretty pumped up yeah and Co you said this to me I I think as we walked off the field on Saturday because uh Henderson worked out with the quarterbacks right and Houston is going to give him a chance to be a QB that’s why he is committed to play for the Cougars I would agree right and some school schools like him as a wide receiver some schools like him as a DB on Friday night he did everything he played center um played some quarterback as well he’s just a playmaker he’s a fun and dynamic explosive athlete he’s obviously got the frame I’ve seen him multiple times this off season like I think to the average fan you look at him committed to Houston you’re like oh okay like what does this mean no this guy’s a chance to be a program changer so I I’m a fan and I don’t know what did you think of of him as a quarterback like I I kind of want him to play there yeah I haven’t seen the the Deep dive in terms of the tape I’m not there yet I’ve seen a little bit but in terms of seeing him in person I knew the conversation coming into the event and hey this guy you know we have him ranked as an athlete Houston kind of sees him as a quarterback I thought coming away from that it was pretty clear to me that all right I I can get behind the vision at quarterback this wasn’t a guy that was kind of clunky mechanically it was like all right you got to make it fit you got to scheme it up around them I thought there was enough to the arm to get pretty excited about and then you don’t even really get to see in that setting how Dynamic of an athlete that he is I thought there was certainly enough there from a physical trait standpoint if you wanted to build around kashon Henderson at the quarterback position you could do it at Houston I would agree I Kon Russell was the big mover when it comes to the quarterbacks and the 2025 cycle out of the state of Texas uh kesan Henderson could be that guy in 2026 and when we built out the top 247 for the class of 26 you know Hudson sish gay Brooks I was like hey where are the Texas quarterbacks usually that is a stronghold when it comes to the arms I think we got two of them so far in in the top 247 maybe kesan Henderson is that guy drew the uh last guy I want to talk about how about jet Washington out of Bishop Gorman I mean you talk about guys that are just physical specimens and we got them listed at 6475 pounds rarely rarely does it happen when you go to these events uh and a guy is listed and they meet uh their height and weight for what you think they are he might be bigger I mean he he’s floating around 64 175 he’s probably 185 right now and you know those guys are well fed at Bishop Gorman well you talk about a guy that made it look pretty pretty easy playing defensive back throughout the entire week I mean he’s he’s easy on the eyes uh but just in terms of the way that he moved there’s a lot to like about this kid yeah well no he’s actually 200 lb Cooper cuz I standing by the scale when these guys are measuring I had jet Washington written down uh Keandre Harrison was another one where I wanted to see how big he was along with FaZe and Brandon no he is he’s 6400 right and what is he uh He’s listed as an athlete because initially when he emerged on the recruiting scene he was a wide receiver but Bishop Gordon Gorman played him at safety last year he might be ultimately more of an overhang linebacker but you turn on the game tape I love his how he takes angles and gets from point A to point B he can be where he needs to be frequently on the back end I think he needs to get a little more physical as he comes to balance as a tackler but man uh unlimited range from that safety posting and he had one of the takeaways of the weekend he climbed a ladder you know pluck the ball out of the air uh with one hand I thought it was a really impressive showing for him and usually when you have these big big defensive backs they get them in the footwork drills and they will struggle right to kind of change gears and it can be a bit clunky I saw enough from him in in terms of the lateral quickness and the burst I’m a big fan of jet Washington uh obviously is a special athlete he also plays basketball he’s got some notable Bloodlines but certainly a name to know in that 2026 cycle all right guys if you have any more questions for me and Drew specifically Tom is in the chat answering all your recruiting questions if you have scouting questions That’s How we’ll differentiate the two make sure to get those in in the next 30 seconds while I do this promo and we’ll try to answer it if not we’re going to wrap up there uh but just a reminder several commitments this last weekend and that’s going to continue through the 4th of July holiday as well including top 247 wide receiver Donovan olode number 69 player overall in the country an exciting one and a huge fan of the oyster Boys on Friday at 4:00 eastern time so make sure to lock in there Drew I’m going to see if we got any more um questions here and if not I think that’s about it for us any uh final comments no show tomorrow 4th of July we’re going to enjoy the week we appreciate it hope you guys are okay with that we’ll probably have a lot more uh to get to when we get back next week I guess we’ll leave on this one uh next 2025 update next 2026 update do you have any specifics on those and and what you can tell the good people about when that may be happening 2025 will be very soon right uh after the July 4th week and then we’re going to get into 2026 at the end of July and then that initial 100 for the class of 2027 Cooper hope you’re fired up about that that will be in August right so uh this 2025 update going to be very quarterback focused coming out of the Elite 11 finals we also had some events here uh in the month of June right you had the ot7 event we had various College camps really I think the moves are going to be minimal uh outside of the quarterbacks but kind of positioning some some of these prospects in terms of how we see them heading into their senior Seasons right then we’ll update early on uh after that first month and a half when different prospects have played um and then we’ll do another update before the early signing period and then things will finalize after those All-Star games we got the Under Armour game the All-American bulll obviously uh and then the Polynesian bull so just some positioning when it comes to 2025 2026 a lot of new names on the board uh a lot of guys camp at various places and then the future 50 will serve as a uh I don’t Compass it’ll it’ll fuel a lot of those moves all right Drew last question uh from our boy Andrew he originally said Justin Williams but I didn’t think he meant that he meant Jonah Williams Jonah Williams do you think he’ll be a better safety or better linebacker at the next level I love this question because we’re still trying to figure it out behind the scenes but uh if you had to pick one what do you think he’s going to be I think he’s a guy you take and you figure it out later uh I would probably lean uh I would say safety um I just from what I’ve seen from him I I I’m still a believer in his ability to hang as as a low safety and uh how he can you know play the angles get to the line of scrimmage I’m going to go safety here c i I don’t know about you I agree I six uh 63 and a quarter 204 uh long kid he he’s going to get bigger I mean he’s probably going to play at 225 230 he is super unique we’ve talked about the baseball background um I think it depends depends on the vision depends on the scheme what program he ultimately ends uh ends up at at the end of the day um but I think ultimately long term yeah he could probably roll down play at the second level that’s not going to be an issue I mean when you watch Jonah Williams he does everything uh offensively defensively he plays corner he plays safety he plays linebacker uh there’s no limitation on this kid and what he can do with all his physical ability I think at the end of the day how do you maximize his skill set I’d probably say it best be used at the safety position drop him in some nickel rolls can use him in pass coverage manto man can use him off the edge situationally um yeah he’s he’s got the goods uh is what we like to say on Jonah Williams Drew that’s about it for me you got anything else before we get out of here no bud I hope you uh have some time off here for the holiday can’t wait dude uh much deserved much needed guys at home we hope you enjoyed the 4th of July as well and guys just one last reminder make sure to like And subscribe to 1. Can someone explain to me why when I look at the 24/7 college football team recruiting rankings it says Georgia has 2 …..5 star players but when I actually see who they are it says GA has 3 ….5 star players …..I am confused
