quarterback rankings and uh we’ll go through the list one by one and if we have issues where guys are ranked we’ll we’ll share those issues we begin at the top spot I can’t imagine there’s much argument here but Patrick Mahomes nope no issue he’s by far the best quarterback in the league um we’ll see how he sustains it Nick I think uh there’s been a little uh making fun of his dad bod and things like that and uh yeah you know you do have to worry about that and you know you look at uh he should be learning from Tom Brady and the longevity thing because uh and really at this point in time and we talked about it after they won their uh their third Super Bowl I mean you know momes has a chance to go after immortality but you can only do that if you you know put in all the work and I’ll be interested to see what what kind of shape he comes in this year I mean because you know injuries have cropped up a little bit with him and Brady obviously learned those lessons and said you know and had a mindset about I’m not going to let that stuff affect me anymore I mean he needs to find his sort of Eric Alex Guerrero um maybe not the snake oil stuff but he needs to find his guy and and and make sure that he’s he’s ready to go because the sky’s the limit for him all right number two the list gets interesting right away after Mahomes because Josh Allen is number two is that a little too high for your liking Greg you know I thought about it Nick and you know where everybody is I mean burrow sort of had a a down year uh injury issues he’s had that um you know some of the other guys on the list like Lamar Jackson they all have their shortcomings I mean nobody’s nobody’s perfect perfect candidate after momes and so for now I’m okay with where Josh Allen is it’s going to be interesting to see what they do you know they keep they keep relying more and more on Josh and that is a very big double-edged sword with him um but I think in terms of talent how he’s grown into it um just you know and we see him twice a year at least plus National Television events I mean I you know I I’ve just grown to appreciate him more and more you just wonder does he have enough help around him wasn’t the best season for him last year but Stefan Diggs also didn’t look the same of course they had the offensive coordinator change in the middle of the Year seemingly he got better with the change to Joe Brady I’m interested to see how that will impact him this year with the full year of Brady calling plays so I don’t have much of an issue when you look at the rest of this list next guy’s interesting Joe burrow at three yeah you know he he started 10 games last year he was five and five um you know that was after he was the year before he was fourth in MVP voting um I think the world of burrow but he you know the the the injuries have been an issue for him he’s played four years and and twice he’s only started 10 games of course his rookie year um with the ACL and all that I mean I think he’s awesome I I’m fine with that ranking for him but it’s time for him to you know really start pushing ahead and and you know being the guy consistently that we all know he can be I share a lot of the same sentiments I love burrow I love his swag I I love how he plays the game incredibly accurate I think he’s a winner I think he’s a great leader but I would drop him down a couple of spots on this list because of the injuries I don’t know how you can put him as the number three quarterback when he hasn’t consistently stayed on the field and I I think that’s kind of a slap in the face to guys like that we’ll talk about a little bit later on on this list but I I would probably slide him down a couple of spots all right number four this is somebody who I would put above burrow uh Lamar Jackson is the next on the list yeah I for a bit Nick I had Herbert and Jackson switched but um right now I’m going with Chris sims’ list I’m going chalk I mean I I I you can make the argument you could definitely make the argument I think from the past I haven’t heard Chris’s podcast on this but normally what he does is this is what he sees for this season it’s not where they are right now um but I just think Lamar Jackson the way that he has improved his passing year overy year um I remember studying him last year at one point and like I was just blown away I’m pretty sure the didn’t the Patriots play them last year or was it the year before um but anyways I remember studying him at some point and I was just like this is a different level of Lamar Jackson uh in terms of his passing and so again this is another guy where injuries and Longevity all that you know it plays into it but I think that the switch in in offense for them last year really helped they keep keep getting him more and more help um we’ll see if any of it pans out uh but um you can definitely make the argument that Lamar Jackson is if second third or fourth best quarterback in the league but certainly in that range of course always with Jackson the question is regular season versus postseason and he just not he has not had that career defining postseason uh performance and win when he’s you know he’s able to rip the ball all over the field and he’s making plays from the pocket and he’s using his ability with his athleticism you know that’s always it’s going to go back to that and until he goes on a bit of a run in the postseason I think that will always kind of hover over him like that that black cloud in those old school cartoons uh next two guys Matthew Stafford Justin Herbert any issues there Greg yes I swap them um and you know Justin Herbert has his critics people say he doesn’t win enough and the Chargers haven’t won enough uh I view that as more of a Chargers thing an organizational thing and I think with Harbaugh there now I think we will see Herbert uh come into his own and people to appreciate you know what he does for that team and I I just think I think he’s an incredible talent I do think he has the intangibles needed I know there’s some question about like is he enough of a winner that type of thing or you know is he just a stat Peddler um I think he’s I think he’s incredible so I flipflop uh Herbert and Stafford there so I have Herbert at five I have Stafford at six there definitely an argument about Stafford and you know his age his injuries but when he’s right and he has a decent Supporting Cast around him I mean he’s damn good he can still rip the ball from the pocket he’s still got a great arm his toughness is unquestioned uh he’s a great leader you know it seems like the Rams are on the c a little bit now so I I I do think that you know him being around the five six range will be justified this year I think CJ shroud at seven is fascinating I could I could argue you could put shroud above Herbert and Stafford frankly after his rookie year and I know that’s a lot to ask but I expect stoud to be even better this year they add Stefan Diggs I think that offense will be a little bit better you know Bobby slowick a year under his belt now as a play caller uh I like strout at seven uh but I might like him even better at six or five where are you on CJ stoud uh yeah I like CJ I have him down a spot on this list and and certainly his his rookie campaign was um fabulous nobody really expected the the the Texans to do much of anything and um you know there were a lot of questions about uh croud his cognitive ability his processing ability but you know he definitely put that to rest uh very quickly and he was outstanding that year um for me seventh on the list for me is somebody who comes from off the board outside the top 10 and it’s Aaron Rodgers um I’m sure that will be controversial um I I just think that look take away the off field stuff and you know his Diva Diva isness and all that stuff I just still believe in Aaron Rodgers the talent the mind and I have a tough time putting a secondy year quarterback over Aaron Rodgers at this point even though it just seems like you know with all of last year wiped out and then the end of Green Bay uh it seems tough to recall like when he was on top of his game but I I just I can’t I certainly can’t keep him out of the top 10 and I’m just I’m going to put him just in front of stra all right let’s look at the uh next three guys let’s lump them together Dak Prescott at eight Jaylen Herz at nine Jared Goff at 10 so Dak I don’t have a problem with I have I have Dak down a spot at nine um I think he was Sensational last year under Mike McCarthy um you know he was finally in a real offense with a real offensive coordinator his accuracy was off the charts I I do have my issues with Dak in terms of his clutchness and his intangibles and can he get it done because that Dallas team has been pretty talented and they they haven’t put them over the top yet um does that have to do with Jerry Jones and the personnel and sort of the mix and all the the the circus that comes with the Dallas Cowboys you know I don’t know but in terms of where Dak was last year and him with Mike McCarthy again this year uh I don’t see why he should he shouldn’t be a top 10 uh quarterback for sure so I have him at nine and then I don’t have Jaylen Herz in my top 10 I think that he got exposed last year I think that his throwing is limited I think that once people he flourished in sort of a new offense that people weren’t ready for but as you often see in the NFL once teams have an off season to prepare for you they make adjustments and from what I talking to Eagles people like they didn’t anticipate the the adjustments that people were going to be make they sort of L rolled out the same offense so it’s not really a Jaylen Herz problem uh it’s more of a Nick serani problem um and you know they lost both coordinators and things like that but I I need to see more from Jaylen Herz in terms for a whole season now when they went to the Super Bowl he was certainly good but I thought he got exposed a little bit last year so that drops him out of the top 10 and I went with and I’ll be interested your thoughts on this Nick I went with Brock pie over Jared gof at number 10 and I think they’re both pretty similar in that I think they are they are both um somewhat limited quarterbacks they are boosted by what’s around them offensive line weapons coaching it’s all topof the line and so to me I group them together and then I just thought about like if if you put them on the same team say you put you know Brock pie and Jared gof on the same same team say the 49ers who do you have more confidence in to to lead them to you know a Super Bowl which we’ve seen Brock py do against Jared gof and the Lions I I just have a little bit more confidence in Brock pie and the other thing on why I’m a little bit higher on him this year even though I’m not a huge Brock py guy uh you know he he was coming back from a serious injury didn’t have much of an off season last year it was even questionable whether he was going to be available even like at the halfway point for that team and he started basically from the get-go and played MVP level football so he should be even better this year so I went with Brock pie at 10 slightly over Jared Goff and I would uh and I would probably have Goff uh slightly ahead of Herz in terms of packing order I would have pretty on my list list I would have him in the top 10 that’s one of the notes that I had looking at Chris sims’ quarterback rankings was you know how do you not have pry in the top 10 and I feel similarly to you about py as a quarterback I I don’t think he’s Ultra talented but I I mean what he did last year you mention the offseason stuff he’ll have a full offseason under the belt and you look at the team I mean run cmc’s back everybody’s back for San Francisco Kyle Shanahan is a very good play caller so I don’t know how you leave py out of the top 10 priz piix is America’s number one fantasy sports app with more than five million members it is the most fun and exciting way to get in on the action while you while you watch your favorite sports and Bennett hated in Boston over four hits Alexander barov over5 assists that’s easy that’s like taking money from a baby and Chris krider over two and a half shots on goal download the app today and use code clns for a first match deposit up to $100 pick more pick less it’s that easy how did uh Chris Sims feel about the Patriots quarterbacks current and former let’s let’s go through that we begin with uh the presumed qb1 this year jacobe brassette Sims had brassette ranked Greg 36th overall uh I I think that’s a joke I I it’s it’s it’s ridiculous I mean you also have to keep in mind that um and I know brassette doesn’t have much of a profile around the league but you also have to understand that the last time he was a starter in the system with Alex vanel in Cleveland two years ago when he had to start a lot or two or three years ago I think it was two years ago um with the whole deshun Watson mess um he his qbr was eighth in the league like he was he was no slouch now they didn’t win a ton of games but it was also a crap show of a situation in Cleveland and you know they had been preparing for Watson it never comes to fruition then they you know they go to brassette I thought that team was you know limited uh as far as you know Talent on that team I we saw that team at some point um they were they were horrendous um in general they had a horrible horrible defense and like to me jacobe brassette is probably somewh in the 20s now I I went through the list okay yeah and these are the guys that I would have jacobe Bret over at a minimum okay 21 Russell Wilson 23 Daniel Jones 25 Justin Fields that’s a joke 26 will Levis 27 Michael penx Jr he’s not even in the league yet he’s not even going to be playing and he’s 27th but Drake May which we’ll mention is not on the list Drake May’s not on the list but Michael pennick is and 29 Bo Knicks give me a break Bo Knicks over jacobe brassette and Drake may you have to be kidding me uh JJ McCarthy at 30 has more of an argument than those two guys uh but still I would have jacobe brassette and Drake May over JJ McCarthy 31 is Ryan tanah Hill who doesn’t even have a team 33 is Sam darnold like are you kidding Sam darnold over jacobe Brett and Drake May and 35 is jamus Winston who’s backing up not even doing anything so you know I don’t know I’m sure there’s a lot of Patriots fans they they they already don’t have a lot of love for for Chris Sims they think he’s a Patriots hater and hated bich and hated Tom Brady and and you know I don’t think it has anything to do with that this is a whole entirely new regime but look jacobe brassette is like a at the minimum he’s like a 500 quarterback in the league and so to me that gets you to around 20 in the league but some of those guys on the list it’s it’s just a joke I did the same exact exercise as you did when I saw Bretta 36 I looked at the names above and a number of names that I had on my list asking are you kidding are the names that you had Jones Levis Fields pennx darnold you mentioned some other guys yeah it’s a it’s a Croc uh you mentioned this already but no Drake May surprised uh yeah and I got to listen to the podcast to hear his reasoning for that I mean you know like like we said I mean you know even taking out like you know Caleb Williams and Jaden Daniels who um I think I have the ratings right here so Caleb Williams is at 20 and Jaden Daniels is at 28 Jaden Danel Dani is below Daniel Jones Justin Fields will Levis Michael penx Jr he’s just in front of bonick um you know Drake May is um is supremely talented I don’t think Sims was much of a drake May guy coming out if I remember correctly and that’s fine because you know it I wasn’t a huge guy either but the potential is just there and you know I don’t know if I to do with he just thinks he’s going to sit for the entire year so he’s not putting him and these other guys might play I assume that’s part of the discussion but you know if you’re really like ranking the quarterbacks in the NFL I mean I don’t know how you don’t have Drake May at leaks ahead of penx Nicks and McCarthy at the minimum yeah Chris Sims not a drake May guy if you just Google he was he was lower on Drake May than many other people so uh given the context of that not too too surprising uh no ma Jones should we even have a conversation about this um I don’t know it’s weird because Sims is a is a m Jones guy I mean he has jamus Winston on the list and maybe he just feels that M Jones is that broken which I would I wouldn’t argue that I mean we certainly talked about it enough and about how you know the whole Patriots experience after Josh McDaniels completely ruined M Jones and I’m sure his confidence isn’t very high um I don’t have a huge problem with him leaving him off the list I mean you know I still can’t believe they have J he has jamus Winston ahead of uh jacobe brassette um but you know you figured you could M put M Jones on there he was high on him coming out he liked him his rookie year we all know the circumstances so um we’ll see I mean I think that you know Trevor Lawrence is a guy who who gets beat up with his athletic ability I think M Jones is going to get a chance to show at least a little bit what he can do this year and I I think he’s going to do a good job so to me he should be somewhere on the list the Celtics are in the NBA finals and I I can tell you Nick is very excited Celtics will have homec court so possibly four games at TD Garden how awesome would it be to go to a game and experience that atmosphere and get the Patriots with the most pressure on them we’re talking coaches Andor Executives uh we will get into the players in a later pod but but let’s look at the coaches and Executives Greg you have your list of five I’ll just go off of your list and you start we’ll start at the bottom and go up to one number five is Scott Peters yeah the offensive line coach um we’ve talked about it before this is a guy who um was an understudy to Bill Callahan in Cleveland Callahan left to go to the Tennessee Titans to coach with his son um which is a great opportunity for him very unique and but Peters was there for four years and you figured he was in stefansky system he learned under Bill Callahan that there would just be a natural transition but uh when it came time for it um they they let him go and hired somebody else and so there’s that hanging over his head uh there’s there’s the lack of continuity in coaching I mean this is basically like a complete reboot of the offensive line room in the instruction he has cougler as an assistant coach who’s really well thought of um so so that I think will be a bonus for him but look we all know this team is isn’t doing jack anything if the offensive line isn’t coached a lot better A lot more efficient I don’t even care about the talent level all that much um and but you know just in terms of the coaching and the fundamentals that’s where it needs to start and he needs to do a really good job and you know we’re already seeing like I don’t know who’s directing it whether it’s Mayo wolf both of them in terms of Kaden Wallace all of a sudden being moved from left to right right and a wiy in to Right Guard um I did hear some stuff the other day Nick talking to somebody that um that the move and and I and we talked about a little bit last pod but what I’ve been told is like it’s not over for him at left tackle I think they’re they’re just like why are we going to waste him for a year backing up left tackle and they feel really good about a core for um why not try to get him some playing time and does that make us better I think they’re taking a look at it is that going to happen at the end of the day I don’t know do I have my worries about it you’re you’re damn right I do uh but to me there’s no question that when you talk about people under pressure in terms of coaches and executive for the players Scott Peters is there he has a lot to prove you know after Cleveland didn’t want him this is a mess he’s got a lot of work to do um you know whether the Patriots have the number one pick or the 10th pick in the draft I think is GNA come largely on what Scott Peters does in terms of coaching up that offensive line yeah he’s got a lot of guys you know up front that that have questions and guys that are moving positions younger guys that need to develop rather quickly if Drake May gets out there on the field you do not want the five alarm fire in front of your rookie franchise quarterback so there are a number of questions about Peters and the thing that I do like though is that he should have chemistry with the next guy on our list because Peters comes from Cleveland he comes from that stefansky West Coast offense and he also comes along with Alex Van Pelt and Van Pelt is the fourth guy on your list yeah I think people will probably be surprised that I don’t have him higher on the list um and and one of the reasons for that is I think the bar is very low for him after what’s happened the previous couple years um that we all know the situation with the Personnel on the team uh especially on the offensive side of the ball there are a lot of new faces and moving parts and all that and I think people understand this is a new system they’re implementing a new system so I think people should be giving them a bit of a Runway as we’ve talked about in previously it’s normally like about the midpoint of the Season you really start to see traction with the new scheme people being comfortable and then you see progression the second half of the season I think people will will give him a bit of a Runway but but again he also has the Cleveland thing hanging over his head that he wasn’t retained by Kevin stefansky uh he wasn’t wanted there he’s never been really a play caller and plus he has to tutor Drake May and make sure they make the right decisions in terms of you know the future of the franchise and so he’s on the list but he’s not super high for me because I think the expectations are pretty low I mean if he doesn’t do better than the last two years what it’s it’s been that bad offensively it’s one of those things like there’s no other way to go but up here hopefully fingers crossed all right we’ll get to the top three uh on Greg’s list as far as the most pressure coaches Executives with the Patriots this coming 2024 season but first I remind you this episode is brought to you by prize pick largest daily fantasy sports platform in North America you can download that app today use code clns for a first deposit match up to a 100 bucks also don’t forget to check out Greg and company at bsj 50 bucks for the year they have terrific coverage on all of the teams the Red Sox five straight W A series against the Phillies won a series against the Yankees then swept Toronto not too shabby raking the hell out of the baseball in the month of June uh running all over the bases like Mad Men actually kind of fun to watch so uh keep up on on all your favorite teams there at bsj again it’s 50 bucks for the year number three on your list Greg is Elliot wolf yeah another person that people probably would think would be a little bit higher um but similar to Alex Van Pelt um my reasoning is that I think everybody realizes um the job that he has in front of him you know he’s going to have his critics if left tackle doesn’t work out if there’s not enough Weaponry at wide receiver he’s certainly going to be CR uh criticized for that and it’s valid um he decided not to aggressively pursue th those weaknesses on this team um but again I think that a lot of people understand the situation and where specifically on offense the talent level had fallen to I was talking to another NFL Source the other day and he mentioned that he was talking to uh a friend of his who’s an executive who’s sort of in charge of evaluating rosters for uh the rest of the teams in the league and this person told him that before the draft after really before the off season when they uh ranked The rosters if the Patriots weren’t last they were next to last it was like them and Denver that were neck and neck for worst rosters in the league and so I think that yeah I think that Elliot Elliot wolf again similar to what you said about vanel like if it’s not better than the previous two years then wolf um if if the Personnel doesn’t start to look better on this team and faster and that stuff and more athletic and more like a modern day NFL team um than than Wolf’s in trouble but I I think that’s again another very low bar for him to to climb to look like he’s doing this job effectively I think it depends on your expectations too I mean if you thought this was a two to threeyear rebuild you’re going to be patient with wolf if you thought they could turn this thing around a little bit quicker than that you’re going to be impatient with him but you just look at the offense and how just ridiculous the offensive roster was going into this off season and it was a huge mountain to climb up for Elliot wolf to try to field an offense with all the holes and uh we’ll see how it unfolds we’ll see if people were unreasonable as far as those expectations go uh but I’m willing to give him at least a couple of years to figure this thing out all right uh Demarcus Covington is up next number two yeah um I think some people will be surprised that he’s on this list at all certainly this high but I think this is about you know the bar um the defense has been good here um he has Christian Gonzalez back he has Matthew judon back they resigned a boatload of guys um this is his first time doing the job but there’s really there’s no excuse for this defense to take a step back I mean they they they should at least be top 10 if not top five they need to be the type of unit that keeps this team in games like they have the past couple years and I don’t think I don’t think Covington’s going to get any grace period um you know given that the head coach is a defensive head coach and you know most of the staff is staying together on that side of the ball um I think that I think Covington has a ton of pressure on him uh to see if he’s really ready for this or not and the the the Patriots defense needs to deliver and if they don’t it’s not going to be the players who are blamed it’s going to be the defensive coordinator first time NFL defensive coordinator number One never done the job at that level number two uh he’s the guy that’s replacing the bich I think in a lot of people’s minds right Steve belich the play caller Bill bich the overseer and Mastermind on that side of the football that is a hell of a lot of pressure they were number nine in dvoa defense last year you mentioned they’re getting Gonzalez and judon back Christian barmore should be expected to take another step in his progression in development Keon white should be taking that next step can you get something out of Marcus Jones so there are a lot of things here with this defense that people are anticipating going well and if this is not a top 10 defense this team will not be competitive with with the teams that they’re playing the offenses they’re playing I agree with you Covington is near the top of this list and I would not beef with him being at number two because of what you said and because of some of things I just mentioned so lots of pressure on Covington we’ll wrap it up with the number one guy I’m sure a lot of people already know it is uh Gerard Mayo yeah of course I mean he’s replacing a legend he wanted this he had it written into his contract uh people are wondering you know is he more than slogan and slogans on the wall and Vibes with the players in the media does he know what he’s doing is he ready for this has he prepared well enough for this uh um are the were the crafts fooled by him uh you know was he just a Salesman and sold them on it and and you know were they gullible there’s a lot of questions about Gerard mayo and I will say you know I think belich left him a low bar with four wins last year um you know as long as they get I don’t know how you feel about this but as long as they get to four wins or more than four wins I think people will lay off him largely I probably won’t but I think people will in general I think this I like I’ve said before many times I thought they had more Talent than four wins last year I think they have more Talent than four wins this year and I expect them to improve I expect them to get to six seven eight wins and that’s the bar for me other people might have a lower bar but there are a lot of questions about Gerard Mayo on whether he’s ready for this and ready to run his own program and so uh yeah I think the spotlight is on him big time and the other thing is just could be conjecture or just you know us spith balling but I mean me as an NFL person and observer I don’t know how Mike Vel being out there as a coaching free agent doesn’t ramp up the pressure just a little bit more I mean they Mayo certainly if he’s if it’s a disaster if we’re talking zero one two wins this year um I think the the the pressure at least from the outside and it might not be from the inside the crafts might you know I’m sure the crafts are like all right we’re giving this at least two or three years but um if if this if this whole operation is bad and people start not going to games and half to empty full stadium and all that stuff yeah the pressure is going to be huge on Jad Mayo I do think it it’ll be at least a two-year experiment because it feels like a lot of people are just down on this team right now and a lot of people are expecting this team to get a top five pick seven pick I would also say that some of the fans out there want them to be terrible this year a lot of fans out there want them to get that top five pick so I don’t know if they would be upset if Mayo finished with four wins again this year three wins they might even be happy about it I think you got to give them at least two years because of taking over this team even if you thought this team was a couple of wins better last year it’s still not very talented and he’s replacing the goat he’s replacing Bill bich and I’ve got to understand how big of a challenge that is and I’m kind of expecting them to to show us that he has a a learning curve and he’s going to have to get through that and it might take him a year and a half two years to finally figure it out Dan Campbell took a while in Detroit took about a year and a half to figure it out so I’m going to give him some time but it’ll be it’ll be compelling to watch not the media but the fans you know how they react to Mayo in this first year and if there are some chinks in the armor that we see how tough they’ll be on him and how patient they will be with the head coach and this team overall he’s Greg i’m Nick everybody have a great weekend it’s going to cool down a little bit thankfully we’re going to have some rain but it’s going to cool down and not be 120 so uh everybody have a have a great weekend we’re back early next week till then be well [Music] [Music]

  1. Chris Simms is a JOKE! Everyone knows he has something against Boston, us the fans, and Boston teams. He has something personal against us, maybe we should all start making it personal with him? I say we all start f&@king with him on every platform possible!

  2. Karma is real but not the way people use it. Bad Karma is Buffalo Sabers TANKING for high lottery draft picks, getting them and still continue to miss the playoffs. Or "Suck for Luck" [ a generational talent] and getting nowhere and then him retiring too soon. Good Karma is TRYING to win regardless how the result affects your draft order. Quite simply, you invite one or the other into your house, make him/it feel comfortable and he/it will decide when to get off his/its comfy couch and leave. Careful what you wish for….

  3. Aaron Rodgers has not thrown for 300+ yards in his last 23 games. AR 8 got a lot to prove this season is all I'm saying. He could be top 10, but I'm taking the under.
