Henrik Stenson on Returning to Royal Troon for The 152nd Open

Remember the most historic head-to-heads in the History of The Open? We caught up with Henrik ahead of his return to Royal Troon to see how we prepares for his return, swing-talk and how Tempo plays a pivotal role in his game.

so Henrik we got eight Fe since you became the champion golfer of the year coming back to Royal TR how does it feel it’s going to be great obviously the open is always a special event and having won it is uh is nothing short of a dream really and to be coming back to tr is kind of the special memories of course and and uh I think when you’re kind of the defending champion at the venue where where it was last last play it’s always going to be uh be an extra a special week so really looking forward to it and of course I hope I can bring back a few birdies as well yeah and uh we all become eight years older since then and how has your game evolved since your last Triumph there I don’t know does it evolve from that day or does it decline that’s question yeah hard to know but I think uh I think the golf you always become smarter with with time right experience is a big part in this game and every round every practice session you have you always learn something so I think you become you become you know more complete as you go along as a golfer then can you you still deliver on the same the same way as you did eight years ago that’s that’s always hard right and we’re not getting any younger as you say so yeah maybe physically and game wise we not might not have exactly the same but I still feel like I managed to kind of keep my game very much in the same in the same uh of framework in terms of how far I hit it and and what I’m able to do is is more can you put it together and do it enough yeah and I can tell you I’ve seen how many kind of driving Arrangement on the course and he still hits it bloody damn well so we got high hopes for this week tell us what are you working on right now in your CL so in terms of the swing I think I’ve been uh it’s been quite a lot on on sequencing um I think I’ve been I’ve been uh kind of pulling a little bit too hard with my left side at times before I really I get into into the right place to do that so um you know giveing myself a little bit more patience in the down swing uh for everything to fall into place before you P pour the power on really seems to be the kind of the main thing and uh yeah if if I if I get that right I I still hit like you say some pretty decent golf shots so uh yeah we’re not without hope that’s interesting and talking about these elements of the GOL swing timing our audience is very interested in the integrated details of the GOL swing can you mention some words about the importance of tempo go I think Tempo is always going to be a big part of of your go swing to you know to hit consistent shots and and to do that consistently um I think one B misconception with Tempo doesn’t need to be slow to have a good tempo was really you can have someone like Nick price that was a great golfer and and he would have something that looks a lot quicker but it was still like in Rhythm and in Tempo so it’s really finding your Tempo and and obviously you can work on that and the whis and can obviously be one one thing that that can give you good feedback and help you finding the temple that best for you yeah that’s very interesting to say that because looking at all the data we have from millions of gol swing with the wh we see that better players like yourself are very fast but in Rhythm like you say your 085 start to impact time which is quite fast compared to the amateur golfer that’s about 1.3 so they’re way slower but it looks so smooth because you are so rhythms so all the best for the find find that Rhythm and we’re good to go yeah find that Rhythm at true and then we’ll wait for another Victoria all right thank you thank you
