The Perfect Golf Shoe!?

we have new shoes so as you guys know I use Cricket shoes for golf now some of you might think that is crazy but the reason I do that is because I firmly believe golf shoe companies have dropped the ball on progressing the evolution of golf shoes to improve performance and they’re just focused on Aesthetics which is fine for some people but I think that other sports have done a much better job of investing in the R&D of ground force reaction angle stability all the things we need as athletes because that’s what we’re doing to play better so I moved to another sport to find that and I found cricet was much better at that while still having the same traction profile the golf shoes have now my biggest gripe with Cricut shoes has been the aesthetic right golf shoes are great at looking good but Cricut shoes aren’t as great actually recently I spray painted my Cricut shoes to try and get them to look a little better but even with the velcro strap and all the things like they they work but it’s still not necessarily the golf look however I think we have a solution I got a DM from a company called Phantom and the owner of the company saw my Cricket shoe video and said Gabe how about you try our shoes cuz not only do we have the performance but we also have the aesthetic now I did a little unboxing of these earlier wow look at that this looks so good this might be one of the sickest shoes I’ve ever seen so without further Ado look at that how sick is this shoe this is the Phantom form one shoe it’s got all the spikes it’s super stable here look at this thing how sick is it it looks like a running shoe but it’s super super stable like look at this plate tons of ankle stability it’s got the toe protection it’s waterproof all the like all the spikes you want okay you can swap these spikes for for golf spikes and it looks so cool how cool does this look it’s got all the it’s got the aesthetic I can’t believe it I can’t believe it so anyway we’re going to put the shoe to the test and see how we like it and hopefully I’m hoping this is the shoe for me because this basically solves all my problems and is might be the best shoe I’ve ever seen and hopefully the best shoe I’ve ever used for golf what’s also great about this company in particular is they ship soft spikes with the shoes so normal crooked shoes you don’t get any soft spikes with them and you have to go find them on Amazon yourself and go through that hole or deal which is what I’ve done but these guys they give you soft spikes right out the gate so you can literally take them out of the package swap the spikes and be ready to golf right away and to swap the spikes is super super simple you get this little wrench tool they just come right out out and then you just repeat this a bunch of times and what I also love about Cricut shoes right versus golf shoes and I’ve talked about this before Cricut spikes are recessed right on the edge of the shoe okay see this see this the spike goes here now if you take one of the spikes I’m using these are my own spikes that I like to use right look at how much more depth you get right what I never liked about a lot of golf shoes was that the spike was recessed into the shoe so the amount of depth you would get out of the spike would be less right like this like at least you know maybe an eighth of an inch would be buried into the shoe that makes a big difference over the course of this many spikes so another reason why I think the performance benefit of Cricut shoes is just also the way they do their spikes what’s cool is they come with their own spikes so you just pop these right in and you’re good to go for golf now I’m going to use my own spikes today because I’m used to them and I want it to be a fair test between what I’m used to but this is great value you get the wrench plus the spikes custom branded that’s awesome also shout out this is a very good wrench tool you know what some of the wrench tools you get with the spikes are not very good and it kind of like hurts your hand to like twist the spikes in the tool they give you is a very very good tool like ergonomically and it makes a big difference cuz when you have to change your spikes you just you don’t want to have to hate it you don’t want to have to hate doing it now before I put the spikes on the other shoe a couple interesting things is if you look it’s got some builtin pretty firm spiky ridges as is which you know should provide some extra traction they range from like kind of these smaller spikes to some bigger spikes also the surface area of the foot pad is very interesting you know being able to stay balanced on a shoe I think is very important and very underrated in golf and it’s very interesting there’s a very wide topad here which from the top actually doesn’t look doesn’t look weird it actually doesn’t look like it it sticks out as much as it does when you especially when you have the shoe on but down here you have a lot more stability and I wonder if pushing on the downswing this will be a big benefit all right we got both shoes spiked up time to uh put them on and take some swings so boom how do they look they feel really good very interesting for how stable the shoe is it feels very light and doesn’t feel as like weird as maybe some other shoes feel even golf shoes like this is probably the closest to what a normal kind of athletic shoe feels like but just very stable which is nice nice what I do like is when I do this like side to side test I ain’t going anywhere I feel wow and especially in my swing right now I’m working on really turning this hip and going and extending I feel like I can really like rotate into get onto the side of my foot there wow okay that’s interesting well let’s get warmed up and then let’s get on the course and let’s see these puppies in action it’s interesting immediately I’m noticing that my left leg wants to extend more just naturally with the shoe versus Buckle it’s a very interesting feeling that feels good you know that feels good that feels stable you know the biggest thing that I always liked about the Cricut shoes was also having the ankle strap this has a built-in ankle support and I don’t feel like my ankle slips or wants to come out of the shoe and I always hate that feeling whenever I had the FootJoy premieres I always felt like my ankle wanted to come out of the shoe which when you’re pushing it just doesn’t make any sense to me right right like why would you design a shoe where that’s the case so this is a this is a really nice feeling yep oh it’s so nice to feel like you’re just not going anywhere I hate that feeling of like when you slip or in transition where your back leg slips out I hate that feeling oh that that was phenomenal that felt phenomenal that’s why like you just can’t discount shoes like shoes matter it’s part of the bag I’m I’m convinced of that oh that is hammered let’s go my goodness all right wind pushed out a little but I’m fine with that let’s go so pretty good start on that first hole I’ve been popping around hitting different shots just trying to get a feel for the shoes see how they react on the course and just kind of going about my practice guys I this is one of those Eureka moments that I have been searching for and like part of the reason why I get so fixated on shoes because after I started working with Ryan Holly and understanding the value of ground forces once you understand that and how it becomes so vital to your accuracy and consistency it’s hard to ignore how much it matters and for me I exert so much vertical Force higher than PJ tour average I always found that the shoes I was wearing couldn’t manage and I felt like Bambi out there on my legs I never felt stable which is why I went to cricet shoes in the first place and that definitely helped and that has definitely aided my development and has made me better but there is something about this shoe that I have been just waiting for the marriage of it being like very comfy stable but not too rigid like some of the other Cricket shoes I’ve had the spikes and the way they’re set up are great I am not slipping anywhere I’m hitting driv straighter than I’ve ever hit to the point where I have to adjust my lines so here on Hole 2 normally I aim like left on this line cuz I’m going to push the crap out of it and I hit this dead straight on my line okay whole five here par five I normally aim way right and try and sling it back in hit it dead straight on my line hole six here driveable Par Four this hole always messes with me because left is OB and I push it right because I’m afraid to rotate and turn left and commit I ripped 3-wood here and had a chip on pull seven okay I normally aim more left cuz I’m going to push it and if I do hit it left it’s fine because that that’s 18 and I hit this one great and then on eight here this was downwind and I was trying to really like hit a high fade I pushed it and it still stayed within a reasonable range I had a wedge on and life is easy the feeling now with my body like I know I’m doing a lot of Swing work but the feel of being able to push through the ground and utilize my whole athleticism that’s why I feel like shoes are so important and I finally feel like I able to make those like Mind Body connections with the ground and everything and just syn it all up because I feel so stable in these shoes and it’s quite like I’m looking through the technology now because I’m trying to understand so it’s got added stability and uh an increased heel lining cuz you know I was saying earlier like I don’t like how my heel lifts up and that was an issue I had with a ton of other shoes because I always felt like my heel was slipping out of the shoe and I never felt stable um the toe protection is good because when you’re trying to Pivot and push and you know everyone drags their toe a little bit then they got an ergonomically designed outsole which is supposed to be robust responsive and stable yeah and that’s that extra padding on the on the the front that I showed earlier like I feel so stable I feel good but they’re so comfortable I’ve had these on for over two hours now and they don’t feel like I just put on a new pair of shoes like they feel super comfy I feel like I go on a run right now I feel like I could do box jumps and be really athletic and I could also just walk the golf of course I I am blown away I’m blown away this this is the this is the shoe I’ve been looking for the other cool thing is I haven’t had to retie them I was constantly having to retie any other golf shoe I wore and I haven’t had to retie these at all the wind is pushing it a little man the wind is off the right the wind kind of held that but that was still dope the wind just pushed it a little too much unfortunately but that doesn’t mean we don’t have a look we’ve got 191 here let’s see if we can make some magic happen it’s curving a little too much yeah all right we just we went just long enough to miss the bunk but just short enough to use that sling and draw to run up the green here but this is good we get to work on our short game and that is important go go a little more that’s pretty good so we start with a birdie and we end with a birdie safe to say your boy is excited oh man these is I I don’t want to get too overhyped but I think this is the type of shoe I’ve been waiting for and on top of it it looks so good like they look great I love it I love it big fan this this opens up a lot of opportunity for me now um with having a shoe that I like to wear that’s super comfortable performs great looks good this is what I’ve been looking for now retail for the shoe is 192 Canadian they ship worldwide I’ve link the site forces the way other sports have invested in their equipment in the same capacity you look at running you look at all these other sports they have invested so much into optimizing the ground forces for their athletes golf has not done that I think Cricket is on The Cutting Edge of that and specifically Phantom has done an incredible job of building a shoe that performs the way I think a golfer needs it to and so this is going to be my shoe for now and also guys like I’m not getting paid to make this video this is not an ad uh they sent me these shoes to demo this is just something personal
