we know by now that having a balanced fantasy football team is a great way to have a great season but how awesome would it be if you could have a top 12 player at each position on your fantasy football team because it does you no good to be stacked at wide receiver if you’re having to turn around and start javante Williams and Devin single ter at your running back spots sure they’re solid role players solid fantasy guys but they’re not studs so if you can have a balanced fantasy football team and at least one stud at each position that’s how you turbocharge your fantasy football [Music] lineup what is going on headl Nation hopefully everyone is doing well out there now by a show of hands who out there watching right now wants to a way that you can turbocharge your fantasy football lineup because it’s not a very difficult process probably because I’ve gone through and done all the work for you so in reality you can kick back relax put your feet up go in the bathroom and hide and watch this video if you’re at work whatever it may be but that would be funny to know let me know Down Below in the comment section where are you watching this video right now I’m sure there’s a couple freaks out there watching in some weird places right now but all right let me explain what we’re going to do here today and then after I explain it let me show you the data that I have to support it but not just show you the data I’m going to show you some teams that I drafted using this exact process and let me tell you they straight fire so all right here’s what I did I went through and figured out who are the top 12 drafted players at each position for the last two years the main positions right quarterback running back wide receiver and tight end I also noticed where they finished at the end of the season at their position I really wanted to find out how many players drafted inside the top 12 at their position actually finished inside the top 12 at their position I also wanted to see if I could figure out which position busted most frequently because if we’re being honest with each other the industry out there makes it seem like the running back is the position that busts all the time but is that actually true because if we can figure out what rank is statistically better to draft some of these positions we’re not only going to set ourselves up to have a great overall lineup but we’re also going to limit the amount of players that we draft that bust so if I have your attention now and you’re more excited than a frat boy on South Beach during spring break hit the like button cuz we’re about to dive in to some of this data now if this video can get over a th000 likes I’m going to pick a random commenter from down below to give them a free draft guide just because I’m feeling frisky right now we actually just hit a couple like goals on some past videos I’m going to be announcing the winners of those draft guides on the community tab here really soon so be sure to keep an eye out for that but all right let’s dive into some data and hopefully y’all had your damn weedies this morning cuz I I need your attention right here on the screen let’s go ahead and start it off with quarterbacks so we can see on the screen the last two years the top 12 quarterbacks drafted in 2022 we had Josh Allen Justin Herber Patrick Mahomes Joe burrow Lamar Jackson Jaylen Herz Kyler Murray Russell Wilson Aaron Rogers Dak Prescott Tom Brady and Matthew Stafford but we also see where they finished the season only six of the first 12 quarterbacks drafted in 2022 actually finished inside the top 12 at the position 50% of them how about 2023 we had Patrick Mahomes Jaylen Herz Josh Allen Lamar Jackson Joe burrow Justin herar again we got just Fields Trevor Lawrence Deshawn Watson Dak Prescott to a Tong of ioa and Aaron roders but once again only six of the first 12 quarterbacks drafted actually finished inside the top 12 but then we need to take it a step further I wanted to go back for each year and find out what was the overall average finish of the top 12 drafted quarterbacks for the overall average in 2022 they finished at 12.1 in 2023 it was 17.5 honestly deshun Watson Joe burrow and Aaron Rogers really hurt that average for sure but still a little bit higher than the year prior how about the top six let’s look at the first six guys off the board well in 2022 they had an average finish of 5.8 if you took a top six quarterback more than likely you found yourself with a top 12 option how about in 2023 the top six overall average finish 9.5 still inside the top 12 what about the bottom six finish the guys that were drafted 7 through 12 at their position in 2022 they had an average finish of 18.3 and in 2023 an average finish of 25.7 now when you look at the overall position we have a total success rate of only 50% that’s not really good that means we basically have a 50/50 shot of a quarterback we’re drafting inside the top 12 finishing inside the top 12 but when we really break it down from that first six to bottom six that’s where things get different the top six average quarterbacks for both years had a combined average finish of 7.7 inside the top 10 at the position where we see the quarterback 7 through 12 had an average finish of 22 so obviously by looking at this we need to tell ourselves if we want to have a really good chance at Landing a top 12 quarterback we need one of the first six guys off the board but that’s only the quarterback position now we’re moving on to running backs in 2022 the first 12 drafted were Jonathan Taylor Christian mcaffrey Austin Eckler Derrick Henry dvin cook Naji Harris Joe Mixon DeAndre Swift Alvin Kamar Nick chub saquin Barkley and Aaron Jones out of the first 12 running backs drafted eight of the 12 finished inside the top 12 67% that’s a good number right there what about 2023 the first 12 running backs drafted were Christian mcaffrey Austin Eckler bejon Robinson saquon Barkley Nick chub Tony par Derrick Henry Josh Jacobs Naji Harris Travis eten Rand Dre Steven season and Joe Mixon and once again six of the first 12 drafted running backs finished inside the top 12 overall not below average by any means but remember we wanted to take it a step further now the overall average finish of the top 12 overall running backs in 2022 was 11.4 for the most part in 2022 you drafted a running back in the top 12 he finished in the top 12 the top six overall had an average finish of 10.8 while the bottom six had an average finish of 12 overall still good so let’s move on to 2023 the average overall finish for all 12 running backs was 20.9 that’s not as good how about the top six though an average finish of 25.3 where the bottom six here running back 7 through 12 had an average finish of 16.5 but as you can see once again on the screen a total success rate of 58% not horrible it’s better than a 50/50 chance but this is where things got a little weird the top six averaged a finish of 18.1 where the bottom six the running back 7 through 12 had an average finish higher than the top six at 14.1 so that tells me that even though we’re not seeing top 12 finishes across the board you have a better chance of Landing a top 12 running back if you look at the guys between 7 and 12 so that’s what we’re going to look at here in this exercise but now we’re moving on to wide receiver and here we go in 2022 the first 12 drafted were Justin Jefferson Cooper cup Jamar Chase Devonte Adams Stefan dig cidi lamb Debo Samuel Tyreek Hill Mike Evans AJ Brown Michael Pitman and Kenan Allen now out of the first 12 wide receivers drafted seven of them finished inside the top 12 58% what about 2023 we had Jefferson Chase Hill Diggs lamb AJ Brown Cooper cup Garrett Wilson Devonte Adams Aman rosain Brown Jaylen Wadd and Chris olve out of the first 12 drafted here six of them finished inside the top 12 so when we break it down even further let’s go back to 2022 where for the average overall finish of the top 12 wide receivers was 14.7 but when we break it down to the top six and bottom six we see that the top six wide receivers had an average finish of 8.2 where the bottom six were at 21.2 would that happen again last year in 2023 you’re damn right it did the average overall finish was 16.7 but the top six had an average finish of 10.2 bottom six of 23.2 the total success rate though is lower than that of running backs 54% now sure it’s a difference of like one player but still we’re all taught that running backs are the ones that probably have the highest likelihood to bust you see it all over the fantasy football space but mathematically not so much but you can also see that this tells us that the top six average of a finish of 9.2 that’s where we need to be looking we need ourselves a top six wide receiver once again this year all right let’s move on to tight ends the football kind and then we’re going to start looking at some teams here pretty soon in 2022 the first 12 tight ends drafted were Travis Kelce Mark Andrew Kyle Pitts George KD Darren Waller Dalton Schultz Dallas go dare because I’m feeling so damn fancy TJ hackinson Dawson Knox Zack ZZ Cole KT and Patty F Pat Fri MTH out of the first 12 drafted eight of the 12 finished inside the top 12 for 67% last year in 2023 we had Kelsey Andrews hackinson KD Waller Goddard pittz uh Pat fouth Evan Ingram David and joku Dalton concade and chiggy oo of the Tennessee Titans Now last year out of the top 12 tight ends drafted six of them finished inside the top 12 for 50% let’s break it down even further though in 2022 the average overall finish for the top 12 tight ends was 11.8 in 2023 it was close it was at 12.2 how about the top six how did they finish in 2022 an average finish of 13.2 and in 2023 an average finish of 10.2 how about the bottom six finish 10.3 in 2022 and 14.2 in 2023 an overall success rate of 58% at the position but ever so slightly we can see that the top six averages a slightly higher finish but look at it this way both the top six and bottom six basically have top 12 finishes so we really don’t have to reach for a tight end anymore right there are so many options we can find a guy maybe in that 7 to 12 range that gives us a good opportunity still of finishing inside the top 12 the discrepancy between top six and bottom six is not huge and they’re both right there in the top 12 but that is a lot of information I understand that I’m not trying to information overload your head here but I also don’t want you to think that I’m coming to the table with a bunch of half-ass opinions I come to the table with information based off of statistical facts and if I don’t show it to you at least a lot of people out there thinking I’m just going to be making this crap up that’s not how it works over here so let’s just do an overall recap right a for dummies recap for everyone out there to make it a little bit more digestible so first thing I really noticed was statistically over the last 2 years the top 12 drafted wide receivers bust more frequently than the top 12 drafted running backs so that myth can be absolutely debunked sure it’s not much of a difference but let’s just say it’s not much of a difference instead of just making running backs out to be some forbidden position that they just bust all the time you don’t want them just ignore those kind of takes how about this the top six drafted quarterbacks over the last two years have an average finish inside the top eight at the position so we know we want a top six quarterback on our fantasy team what that tells me though is the early round quarterback is here to stay in fantasy football the top six quarterbacks are usually gone by the end of round five so keep that in mind what about running backs the running backs that were drafted in that 7 to 12 range at the position had a higher average finish than the first six running backs off the board so we need to Target some of those running backs in that RB 7 to2 range on to wide receivers for wide receivers it is apparent that you need to have have one of the top six wide receivers off the board they have an average finish of 9.2 at the position over the last two years we got to have one of them if possible and then lastly tight ends when it comes to tight ends it’s nothing fancy the tight ends 1 through six barely finished higher than the tight ends 7 through 12 so don’t feel like you have to reach for a tight end early in drafts just to have the potential at Landing a top 12 guy heck I’m not opposed to drafting two tight ends a little bit later on and really hoping that one of them can stand out on your team over the Long Haul of the season so how are we going to accomplish this well in reality we need a top six quarterback a top six wide receiver a running back in that 7 to 12 range and a top 12 overall tight end so let me go ahead and throw up there right now on the screen my current top six quarterbacks my top six wide receivers and my running backs in that 7 to2 range I’m not going to put tight ends up on the screen here just yet because like I said anyone in that top 12 has a fairly good chance at finishing inside the top 12 but I am going to mention a few names at that position here in just a couple minutes so hang tight but you can see here at the quarterback position I got Josh Allen Jaylen Herz Patrick Mahomes Lamar Jackson CJ stra and Anthony Richardson at the running back position we got sequan Barkley Travis etn Kiren Williams Josh Jacobs Rashad white and Joe Mixon the wide receiver position my top six cidi lamb Tyreek Hill Jamar Chase Justin Jefferson Aman Ross St Brown and Garrett Wilson but I can hear you out there you may not think that I can hear you but someone is always listening but I know I’m not telling you anything new here by looking at the names on the screen you know that you want a lot of these names already but it’s all about the locations in which we’re selecting them and trying to minimize the bus Factor we do not want to draft bus we’re trying to find guys that give us the best opportunity to have the highest scoring teams each and every week so I went through and I did a buttton of mock drafts and tried to fill teams with as many of these players on these list that I possibly could and I’m not going to lie here some of these teams look pretty damn good and I would be happy to have them in 2024 and I went ahead and I have five different teams to show you from five different draft locations the first one up was the first overall pick we got CJ stra Derk Henry Joe Mixon Tyreek Hill George Pickins a tight end that I absolutely love this year Jake Ferguson out of Dallas with raand re Stevenson at Flex the Browns and buter but on the bench I love High upside guys and some guys that have some pretty safe floors guys like Chris Godwin people are sleeping on Chris Godwin in 2024 I can have him here as my wide receiver three Austin Eckler sure I’ll have him be my running back four on my bench to see what happens in Washington Keon Coleman an immediate Target share in Buffalo Mike Williams now yes he gets hurt all the time but I’m not reliant on the guy and if he stays healthy we already know the guy can be a top 25 fantasy wide receiver Brock Bowers we have that high upside rookie there on our bench just in case Jake Ferguson doesn’t pan out and then lastly Josh Palmer nobody really knows what to expect in LA but Josh Palmer is the one guy that we can say has that built-in chemistry with Justin Herbert but all right let’s go ahead let’s keep it going where’s the next spot I drafted I drafted in the fourth spot next got this team Jaylen Herz Travis etn Rashad white Jamar Chase and Z flowers followed by George KD Raheem moart the Jets and Justin Tucker and then on the bench more High upside guys Terry McClaren we know Terry mcclin is a deep threat waiting to happen Jaden Daniels loves to throw the Deep ball lad makoni which is always fun to say the guy was drafted early on in the NFL draft not to sit on the bench in La he’s going to have a role hopefully he can stay healthy what about Curtis Samuel in Buffalo I mean he’s reunited with Joe Brady as an offensive coordinator Curtis Samuel’s best season as a pro came in Carolina when the offensive coordinator was who Joe Brady he knows how to use the guy here we have Jake Ferguson on the bench as our tight end to in case George KD can’t stay healthy then we have Jaylen Wright I took Raheem moster now a lot of people think he’s getting older which he is I think he’s going to be like 32 if he does go down Jaylen Wright’s role is going to be huge and we already know we love that offense and then lastly davien wicks in Green Bay a last pick bench stash that we know can perform if given the opportunity overall love this team all right next spot we went to was the seventh overall pick I got Anthony Richardson Josh Jacobs Joe Mixon Justin Jefferson Devonte Adams Kyle Pitts Raheem moard again Miami Dolphins and coup as my Kicker on the bench chrisan Kirk dude’s a former top 12 overall wide receiver people forgetting about him how about Chase Brown Zach Moss isn’t really known to be an NFL Iron Man if he goes down and Chase Brown gets volume watch the hell out Keon Coleman once again David and joku right Kyle pittz can we trust Kyle pittz we really don’t know but let’s throw David and joku on the bench one of them is bound to pop off how about a backup quarterback though a lot of people don’t know if Anthony Richardson can stay healthy well let’s take another high upside guy in Jaden Daniels just in case and then once again because I drafted Raheem moster I’m taking Jaylen Wright late but we’re not done there we’re going on to the next team this one was from the nine hole I got CJ Stout Derk Henry Josh Jacobs Garrett Wilson Calvin Ridley Dalton k k Joe Mixon the Browns and Dicker the kicker on the bench Chris Godwin we already spoke on him Antonio Gibson brought him in in free agency what kind of role is he going to have don’t forget he’s a former wide receiver Jameson Williams being talked up this off season as a potential breakout candidate Jake Ferguson as our tight end two on the bench khil Shakir I’ve talked about this dude all offseason long if you haven’t heard about khil Shakir yet just head over to our Channel look for one of the thumbnails with his face on it and watch that video and then lastly I went with Damen Pierce one of these guys who I think has some sleeper potential if anything happens to Joe Mixon Damen Pierce could be a league-winning running back cuz he’s able to handle all three downs and would be in a great offense but let’s not stop there I’m pretty sure I got another team here the 12th overall pick got Lamar Jackson saquan Barkley Raheem moer we got Garrett Wilson and Jaylen waddle Jake Ferguson Tony Pard the Dallas Cowboys a lot of people be like Pard sucks as my rb3 I don’t hate it anyway we got Dustin Hopkins Chris Godwin once again how about Hollywood Brown on the bench followed by Zack Sharman [Music] [Music] Zach shanet of the Seattle Seahawks we also got rashed Shahed the Deep threat that nobody’s talking about in New Orleans jayen Wright once again why did I draft jayen Wright if you’re paying attention because I took Raheem mostard and then lastly Pat frith on the bench just in case Jake Ferguson doesn’t pan out and let me be clear in no way am I sitting here and telling you to lock yourself into drafting certain positions in certain rounds you do not want to pass on Elite Talent if it falls to you but use some of that wiggle room at the tight end position don’t worry about taking one super super early don’t feel like you have to reach for Josh Allen in the second round when you can get somebody like a CJ Stroud or an Anthony Richardson in the fifth to sixth round try to find a way to just load up on running backs and wide receivers early if possible this is just something that I wanted to throw out there to you guys you to try to apply to your drafts this season show you really how you can build an overall great lineup I just want you to put yourself in a position to have a high-scoring well-rounded team I really feel that exercises like this are great they help train your brain on how to approach the game of fantasy football yes there is a lot of luck involved with this game but there is something to be said for having actual knowledge about all the players you don’t want to learn who a player is or what their potential is in week six find out about it early watch them as the season goes on build an overall great lineup don’t put yourself behind the eightball in week one I tell this to people all the time I don’t want to gamble my team’s future before the season has even started I don’t want to start the season being Reliant that at some point during the season I need to nail a waver wire pickup in order to have a chance at a championship sure I want to have some of those League winners that will fin on the waiver wire this year but I don’t want to be reliant on having to have them in order to win now I know that was a lot of data to throw at you today but hopefully you enjoyed the show if you did make sure you hit the like button now and consider subscribing if you haven’t already if you’re looking for a place to really teach you fantasy football and not just throw hot takes in your face this is where you need to be every single season now I’m going to go ahead and get out of here for today hopefully you guys enjoy the rest of your day though and most importantly do your part to make the world a better place analytics off the chain other channels not the same Jake K you know the name headline Nation we running the game

  1. I have always been against drafting a QB early but after the last 2 seasons of having QB issues and noticing the teams in my league that won had a Top qb, I’m going top 5 qb early. I want that consistency in production.

  2. Am I missing something here surprised none of the TEs was MCBRIDE I can see him finishing up the season on high note maybe not touchdowns but volume specifically if the team is going to sling it all day

  3. Two things you have not considered here:

The numbers are scewed by injuries. Injuries can happen anywhere in the draft. They can happen just as easily to a player you draft in round 12 as in round one. Since you can't predict injuries, it makes sense to take them out of your calculations. So, in fact, the success rate of top 12 players is a bit better than indicated here.

It looks like drafting a top 6 QB is a better value than drafting one in the 6-12 range–or even later than that. Except that the drop-off in fantasy points at QB is much shallower than the drop-off in fantasy points at other positions. By drafting a premium QB in the first 5 rounds, you're sacrificing potentially premium players at other positions where the drop-off between a high ranked player and a lower one is much steeper. So that makes the value of drafting a QB early not quite as good as it seems here.

  4. definitely interesting how top 6 wr meshes w/ 7-12 rb in rounds 1-2. which also matches past videos about balanced approach as this implies wr1 first round and rb second round

  5. When he said what "going on Headliner Nation" I heard, "what's going on Hitler Nation" and had to stop to think about what he said 😂
