[Music] welcome back folks to Mana Lapin New Jersey for the final nine holes of the 2024 New Jersey state championships presented by n I’m Nathan Johnson joined in the booth today by Dan Brooks Wells how’s it going down doing great Nathan how about yourself can’t complain man excited to watch some more exciting disc golf this course has been a true test for our players and uh I think it’s going to continue to be that yeah really difficult except for Michael Joe he’s sitting five down after the first nine holes not the same for the rest of the field we only had one other player who was under par Matt Miller and uh a lot of these guys are you know chasing that third place spot right now Bill still some time to catch up we’ll see what you can do [Music] so starting that mission we are on hold 10 this is a par three 3 29 ft tunnel shot throw it straight land it straight make the putt Michael Joe up first looking to stay hot this is pulled a bit Yeah decent kick back out but he we’re used to seeing those comets fly really straight not pulled off to the right yeah so Chris kind of an opportunity here to maybe make up some ground this is looking so nice but just catches that very last y tree going to drop him out in circle too Curtis plays a little bit more of an overstable looks like a fairway driver to push it up but that’s the risk you take throwing the Fairway is that you know the big variety off to the left that big swing off to the left this is just absolutely cured from Benny that nice subtle he of flip to drift absolutely Parks it that’ll get him back moving in the right direction with a birdie coming up MJ a little fortunate to be out here in the open getting a good kick and he’ll be able to tap that in for his par and uh we know Villa’s running this do it let’s go he is so good from 80 ft it’s unreal how many of those throwin he makes like crazy he has no business like look at this little baby anheiser nose up like if this doesn’t go in it’s going 10 feet long right but of course it’s dead center so of course it goes in Curtis catching the top the top BN good run um is it being big puted if if Villa throws it in I don’t know that’s that’s a great yeah pars for the rest of the card not too surprising here on the 10th that’s a it’s a tough hole tough one to get and we’re headed to whole 11 this is a par 4 700 24 ft open shot from the get but you need to hit the landing Zone uh at you know have this bottleneck and then you got to navigate this tight Fairway kind of down to the left so I think they’re going to be trying to push into the woods as far as they can but not an easy thing to do yeah Crisco and wide heis are just happy to kind of lay up to the the mouth and you can see kind of that short t that up there going to leave him quite a you know still a good waste to the to the basket but that’s a nice safety shot yeah I think this Hiser around this tree doesn’t allow you to push into the woods but like you said it probably gives them a good angle into the into the uh that line that we saw um looks like Michael Joe’s headed out that way as well no reason for him to risk anything right now yep nice safeer for him going to be in a a great spot and maybe maybe Curtis has some some good pop on him so maybe we’ll see him go the inside route try to bite off a little more yes let’s go get in there oh did that skip off the short tead I might have got a little bit of extra turbo boost there from the short te great shot from Curtis you love to see him and he’s going to be rewarded going to be much farther up the fair than the rest of these guys who still have a lot of work to do and yeah you can see Chris there just catching a tree going to have to scramble for power Penny just blasting off on this one leaks a little to the right but that got a far away down there Johansson set up in the Gap perfectly this looks like a great shot and he gets the ground play a nice little scoot up there going to give himself a birdie look yeah I’m not too sure how far away he is it does seem like that was the best case scenario from where he was Kurtis having to go with this forehand Flex Shot seems to get over on it a little bit too much steep Heiser from Villa C is a little Pine that little yeah just a little shrub just taking his lunch money there at the end of the flight going to need another big throw in to save the par Vinnie I think this is the fourth roller we’ve seen out of him most of them backand so far but maybe now one of the forehand variety MJ here with a long look had the height couldn’t get it to flex back in time there’s Villa chance this is par save it is a par save and just comes up couple inches short should be a par save for Vinnie as well reaction from Curtis he knew that might have been a little high but it ends up sticking yeah hole 11 not easy one Birdie on the day from Dylan cook did play as the third hardest hole on the course averaging five Strokes so basically playing as a par five for this field and yeah you can see why just two very demanding shots if you want to get the um get the 30 and moving on from that tough par 4 onto another tough par 4 hold 12 768 ft tight Gap off the key tighter Landing Zone tighter Fairway trying to snake your way around these trees navigating through basically a walking path getting into this guarded basket yeah at 76 68 ft you basically have to go at least Fairway driver here off the T if you want any chance of getting the birdie y I mean this looks great be a little low yeah a little low not maybe quite enough distance but you’ll take it he’s in the Fairway yeah in position for sure oh this is unless you oh yeah wow probably perfect I don’t I don’t see one getting much better than that yeah just a nice little baby flex line heer flip line from Curtis that’s just so smooth and to be able to stay in the Fairway too that far down is um exactly what you need this is a bit overturned from Chris but could get through not quite I don’t know how this really shapes up for a lefty oh it takes a bad kick to the left maybe another roller doesn’t look like it maybe just a I don’t know that I think that is his flippy disc you’re yeah oh my gosh it didn’t look like a roller out of his hand but that was definitely a roller but it gets knocked down in its prime unfortunately yeah a lot of like subtle oh that’s that’s not a not a good Miss there um a lot of subtle turning shot like right hand backhand turning shots on this course which you know to the amateur eye would say oh yeah this is a great Lefty course but it’s tough to keep shots in the Fairway that are you know finishing right on holes like this where you just want like a little baby drift to the right um so it’s a lot more technical for Vinnie than it may initially seem oh yeah unreal recovery shot for MJ yeah wow he’s going to have a a short putt for par after that erant forehand on his second yeah such an awkward stance Vinnie had to do there think he’s fortunate to be in the Fairway and we’re finally at Curtis’s Drive which is going to go like 60 long oh you could hear him say hit something oh my gosh just ped it twice in a row that is something you’re not going to see every day on this one you can see why just the struggles from everybody else on his card this is not lot of Pat pending shots and villain knows take your medicine not much you can do there yeah just a pitch out and a pitch out for par pretty much or bogey I guess at this point not even worth running at that [Music] distance no and as Villa is going to be tapping in for his bogey looks like MJ will be tapping in his par to get another stroke on him oh good run but Vin he wow that would have been a great save to avoid the big number but yeah Curtis this is a a comebacker for a birdie and tickles the left side that would have been the only Birdie on the day this hole average 5.09 Strokes which is uh the second hardest on the course so 11 and 12 taking a lot of folks lunch money out here this is the that really demanding stretch of the course yeah and that’s this is the third hole guys I don’t know if you guys have played a course that that that has this this is the third hole on the course that plays a stroke or more over par how many courses have that I can name a few off the top of my head but they’re all on the pro tour so you know for a local B tier that’s not not common right all right moving on to whole 13 this is a par three 347 ft dog leg to the left looks like a pretty severe dog leg too so you’re looking to push something or get a big flare skip over there this is looking see how far this one works its way over okay comes up a little bit short but we’ll have a circle two birdie look early or is it local route no it was early yeah can we just take a second to admire this beautiful teapad oh yeah is that some nice craftsmanship going on there Chris just a little low never quite got back to the Hiser angle this another roller I hope so yep it’s just such a tight angle like not there’s just not a lot of left to right space there to get it down in time he’s back to the stretched out patent pending pretty good job gets caught up a little bit Curtis with a buttery flick here yeah nice scramble shot short parut coming up seems like this is going to be a run ah just pulled it a bit yeah he he wanted to I I know that looked like a perfect layup but he wanted to run that yeah you can tell Chris takes like an extra second or two when he’s trying to make those long putts Vin throw yeah exactly Vinnie with a valid bid gives it the height gives it a chance an MJ for the lone birdie left side chains just a little high left hey we we love the claps you know if you’re if you’re out here and you’re spectating a local B tier or a local a tier please clap you know to quote to quote to quote whoever said that I don’t know Jeb Bush or somebody please clap you know we we we love the we love the fans so uh if if you’re coming out Make some noise it’s it’s it’s much appreciated yeah I agree and we are going to Whole 14 part 4 539 ft really short really tight getting to the landing Zone somewhere around here and then a dog legs to the left and you can pick your tunnel left or right up to this basket go anytime it’s so tight yeah this Gap off the t is stuff of nightmares but MJ like this is this is just bread and butter for him like he he I do you think he has any worry that he’s not going to just pure this gaps like this every single time no I think like we think like oh this this one’s tight and he’s going this is twice as large as what I think is tight like whatever MJ yeah Curtis that’s going to be a tough Scramble for him coming up after kicking into that right side rough and Chris friendly second tree but oh that tree has to get hit a lot I’m sure Vinnie with a forand has the benefit of looking right at his Gap man he just smashes on discs that was going to be way up there just gets caught up a little bit but still a good drive yeah tough tough stretch here to start the back n for Vinnie and Chris is kind of moving in that same direction after another early kick and Curtis going flick roller you can just see how thick this rough is and how narrow the Fairway is it’s Chris a little bit of army golf here just back in the rough again hard to hard to keep a forhand roller at that distance in the Fairway V doesn’t want anything to do with it he’s like what else am I supposed to do nothing why not the frustration starts to kick in he’s got to keep battling here I mean first place kind of seems done after that but there’s people chasing him yeah you can’t take too big of a number I mean he does have a little bit of a buffer on on third place at the moment um but yeah like I said it’s if he’s not able to execute here he could easily find himself in the the really big number range seems to take care of business on that shot we’ll see how far that one gets up but here is MJ a tossing out a forehand looks like he’ll give himself a look long look Vinnie is well taking the right side Gap heer’s out a little early but he’ll have a circle two look here so a couple of long putts coming up Curtis just lays that one up first you spin it in got to be kidding what an effort the little Annie hey guess what range we at Villa range ah not this time though seemed like it had a little bit of the height though that was close so Vinnie with the last chance to snag a birdie here just a bit off yeah unable to do it this one was a tough one as well 69 overp power we did have two birdies on the day though Mark sarino and Matt Miller hold done I think everyone is going to take a deep breath and enjoy not having to throw in a super tight wooded hole here on whole 15 par 4 644 ft I mean just wide you have all the space in the world comparatively on this hole yeah slightly downhill too so just a chance to kind of let one rip after yeah like you said just being kind of B up in the tight Woods all day yeah I’m expecting V Vinnie’s a he’s a far thrower I’m expecting him to unleash something here he going like a sky Annie B oh roller oh this on such a good angle get going oh it’s still going are you kidding me go thanks yeah that is deserves the claps that’s like a 590 foot roller good shot there by Curtis yeah and that’s a that’s going to be an eagle look for for uh Vinnie here wow that yeah that was just absolutely massive shot oh early release for Villa gets through though so he’ll still actually have a chance but it’s like the one hole you can get away with a Mis relase so you might as well try and take advantage of it here get your money’s worth so he’s probably looking at like the 300 and something range to get up and down this is well thrown and going to be able to save the birdie Michael Joe going with a slow slower disc on this approach probably his Banger comes up a tad short though that’ll be a tester yeah this is looking nice from Curtis just a nice soft putter shot oh let’s go and he throws it in [Applause] what the people love it Curtis Taves with the deuce on whole 15 let’s take another [Music] look what a nice line oh just perfect love to see it what a shot yeah so is that is that a big putt now Vinny got a eagle look of his own I’m gonna say yes it was a big putt sorry Vinnie wow yeah after one of the best drives I’m sure this hole has ever seen uh but it’s not the drive that matters it’s the 280 fot Dagger from from the Fairway good job cleaning up your birdie you saw uh Michael Jay just kind of miss little low there and here is Villa to save his bird after a Mis release on his Drive easy does it well it’s no eag yeah still losing a stroke to his card mate trying to make a solidify himself in that third place spot here down the stretch all right now we’re getting to the Titus hole on the course par 4 hole 16 491 ft up and over this hill kind of Landing in front of the short tead here having to hit another Fairway that finishes a little to the right so I would say say that MJ says you know what this is actually a tight hole this Gap yeah you can see Curtis going down to the stand still forehand just trying to hit the Gap that’s jail yeah not going to be fun over there a little flip up beforehand I think this is an Envy oh a little double redirect what the heck just happened I blinked and the disc glitched from the left that’s that’s a different MVP disc D but um yeah something weird happened there H Villa catches an early one kicks to the bad side not that there is any good side to be honest MJ with his Banger never a doubt absolutely ped yeah I mean there’s a reason this guy has a seven stroke lead right now right I mean on a course like this if you don’t miss gaps you’re going to do pretty well so um yeah it is it is well earned right now down just with only three holes to go just looking to clean this thing up that’s pretty safe to say and Villa you know like you know yeah he has five Strokes on Curtis but we don’t know what the rest of the field is doing so you have to think he still has to keep pushing here yeah if he if he looks at the scores he he does still have a pretty comfortable lead but you know no oh my gosh what is happening I don’t know dude some crazy stuff how does that it went through it cut through the chains Two Eagles and a I mean it kind of should have been right oh my goodness Curtis like what do you what is I okay I’m speak this round has been insane D this is nuts just an absolute roller coaster and another patent pending standstill roller from Vinnie we got another forehand from Michael Joe that’s perfect we’re getting anomalies here what the heck yeah goodness yeah Chris you want to just throw another one in for us why not that looks good that’s a great shot well that’s got to be such an understable putter that he’s thrown cuz that was a deep Heiser from a stand still and it flipped all the way up to Flat yeah I I think he’s throwing I could be wrong but I think he’s throwing swans for that like a beat up Swan mhm this is going to be a tough but for Vinnie but looks like he’s got a little window yeah just jail kind of has to deal with it again go good putt it’s good clean up there just leaves it a little short those ones hurt you know just everything’s right you’re just 4 in 3 in short Oh we must have missed one of curtis’ shots that was for a throw in birdie so he does clean up his par either way drop in three from Michael Jo and a little bit of a frustration bogey from Chris nevertheless we are moving on to whole 17 this is a par three 336 ft looks a little uphill here dog leg to the right you have to navigate through a a bunch of Guardian trees let’s just be honest here yeah a lot of lot of late trees to miss on this one 336 ft it’s going to be a tough one fun to pick up but these guys are still going to try and a pretty good shot from Michael Joe finishes a little early but pushing forehand from Curtis that’s fine that’s don’t care dude doesn’t get the skip he’s probably looking for but you heard him say it’s fine so we believe you was looking great from Vinnie Jess catches another one of those late trees yeah it seems like a little like you know hit this one seems a little bit of Hit the line and then a little bit of a Pok and hope once you get up there so a bunch of long putts coming up Curtis just a tad short Villa another severe Heiser that almost dropped in as well yeah not a bad effort MJ’s in like the same spot from this angle they all look they all look like they’re going in until they’re about a foot short that one too right yeah they’re all running it I mean why not but we we are going to be left with a bunch of tap in pars not too surprising whole 17 only two birdies Austin Freer and Erica vidth pick that one up today very nice star par all right we are moving on to the last hole of the tournament hole 18 Par 3 334 ft got a nice open relatively open shot here into the basket so pick which way you want to go here yeah a bit of a low ceiling to work with seems to catch that tree and drops him a little short but no problem for him he’s got such a big lead it doesn’t really matter yep can just lay it up and drop it in for the dub what anyone who’s not a psycho wants coming down the stretch see if any of these guys are able to pick up this one oh that one’s a bit cold from Vinnie but it gets through I don’t know what happened did you try they’re clapping did you try something funny what’s we’ll never know this looks pretty perf perfect he got a finish left good shot yeah that’ll be a good way to finish for Chris I know not the round he wanted coming into this final round with the lead but uh CS with another great effort but finishing with a birdie and a solid second place finishes is still a good effort yeah I you know ever played in a tournament with Michael Joe I’m not especially in a tight wooded course I I don’t think you’re ever too upset to take second to Michael Joe you know and he’s still running that the I mean the dude’s a legend you know but yeah I would be honored to take second place to Michael Joe I know Chris would have loved to take this one down but sure it was a good tournament from him I don’t think did did did MJ even bogey this round I think he shot a bogey 36 down he did which is unreal on this course right you know it’s not like he did anything super special he just like hit every line which is I guess super special but there you go the 2024 New Jersey state champion put your handsome congratulations buy you’re New Jersey state champion shooting a course record six under in the third round Mich [Applause] there you have it bogey free course record didn’t realize that so cool if you ever get a chance to meet
