Clubhead Speed vs Hand Speed

What gives you faster club head speed – your hands moving faster at impact or slower?

If you answered ‘faster’ you wouldn’t be correct. Many of the longest golfers actually have their hands moving slower and much slower coming into impact. But how?

The golf swing is full of forces and torques and understanding how they work and use them to your benefit is key to getting the CLIB HEAD to move faster. As the club head approaches impact your body is beginning to ‘put the brakes’ on as it unwinds. This ‘braking’ is part of the process of transferring the energy created by the body to be transferred to the arms, hands, shaft and eventually the clubhead. Without the ‘braking’ there will be an energy leak and you will actually lose club head speed and distance.

Work on improving the efficiency of your swing and ultimately how it slows down (using front plane torque) and your hand speed will slow down, at impact, as your club head speed increases

What is The Golf Paradigm (Pair-a-dime)?
The Golf Paradigm is a theory that encompasses a Whole-In-One approach to improvement. It begins with the overall paradigm; i.e. the game of golf. Followed by two parts that are always to remain in balance; i.e. the golf yin/yang – ‘improving’ and ‘enjoyment’. Helping to maintain that balance are the 5 elements of the game; the swing, club fitting, health/fitness, mental, and integration. Knowing which area to focus on and how the other areas supplement that helps to form the golfers ‘recipe’ for improvement. As the golfer improves their recipe, or what is focused on, changes and this is what allows them to reach levels of play they never thought possible. It’s not magical, but it’s close.

what will give you more Club head speed your hands slowing down coming into impact or your hands speeding up coming impact I’ll give you the answer and all the info behind it in this [Music] episode so to answer the question very simply do your hands on better players in particular are those who swing the club fastest are they slowing down coming into impact or are they speeding up and a lot of you I’m sure said that the hands are speeding up but that would not quite be correct and the reason is there’s a well there’s a couple different reasons one of them has to do with your frontal plane torque and I I I just uh we did a video of that not long ago I will put a link to that down below so you have a better understanding of it but very briefly frontal plane torque is how you move your uh body left to right as if there was a plane of glass that cut me in half from this side all the way through this side so there was a front half of my body and a back half of my body but it’s how you move laterally in the swing and as most of you are aware there is a shift from the target side Lake into the trail leg in the back swing from the trail leg to the front leg in the transition and downswing and then what you might not understand which will be revealed in that video is there is a push backwards with that and up and back with that uh Target side leg as you come in Impact now why would your hands be slowing down or why would hands that slow down increase the club head because you’re putting the brakes on when you get into that as the weight or the pressure goes from the trail leg to the front leg and then the front leg starts to push up there’s a catching of your weight if you didn’t your momentum would push you over and your body would fall so as your front leg catches everything and then it starts to extend and goes into this motion where you’re pushing up and back that is where the hands start to slow down but what happens is all the energy and the force that you’ve created with your body and your pivot your frontal plane torque is one of those that all gets transferred into the shaft and into the head and as the Hands slow down all that energy push in the head will actually speed the club head up so if you’ve been looking for one of the if you’ve been doing speed training you’ve been doing uh you’re in the gym you’ve been hitting balls you’ve been working at your Technique making it more efficient you might have just a slight misunderstanding that you’re trying to speed your hands up instead of slow them down and the way to slow them down is using frontal plane torque and the pushing up in the back of the target side leg to allow the hands to slow down and all the energy to get into the club head and ultimately the ball hey everybody thank you for watching another one of our videos if you found this useful and use it in your game don’t forget to click that like button and let us know down in the comments below also don’t forget to check out our podcast one of the hottest podcasts in golf golf 360 if you’d like to watch another one of our videos or subscribe to our Channel you can do so right over here
