okay mate let’s talk about grip right so how we hold the club has a huge influence on the way it moves throughout the swing I want you to talk about your grip and the way and your journey of playing around with your grip to create speed yeah so I’ve always had a very strong grip and a strong grip basically what we call strong is it is relative to where the the left hand or I guess the glove hand is placed on the on the uh top of the shaft so this would be strong this would be weak and this would be fairly neutral and a lot of long hitters tend to have strong grips and why is that well what it does it allows them to get this hand behind the golf club so when you’re on top of the golf club it can be very hard to create speed with that hand but when you’re behind the golf club you can really store a lot of power and the golf CP is a very individual thing it depends on what feels best for you but I found that most golfers tend to play well with a neutral or slightly strong grip and I think that’s because it gives him more speed and it gives him the ability to really hit the inside of the ball and create more power um so as I said I had a strong grip from an early age so it was like right about here and then as I’ve gotten more distance and more power it’s crept down to like right I would say right about here at this point and you know I I see no issues playing golf with this grip like this in fact you know I I couldn’t play golf with a weak grip I would hit everything away right so it’s it’s just about what feels comfortable to you and what kind of shot you want to play if you want to play a shot that moves left to right or I guess a fade you might want to have the grip a little weaker so that you can hold off the face a little more if you want to play a draw or just have a little more power it’s good to have a strong grip so you can swing through the inside hit the inside half that golf ball yeah perfect and let’s talk about position of the grip relative to different parts of your hand so you can still have a very strong WR grip but have it towards the palm and that’s going to limit your ability to create hinge in the go which is important so do you have a a grip routine that you follow to ensure that it is consistent I would say I don’t because I’ve always kind of just like gripped Club very naturally so it’s not like I’m going in the ball thinking all right I got to put my left hand on and did put my right hand I I pretty much just go into the ball kind of like this you know and I hold it pretty far into the fingers I think like right about here and obviously holding it the fingers gives you a lot more leverage you know on the from the hand and the wrist and I think that’s obviously one of the things that I’m I do to create a lot of power and I could definitely see it being a good idea to hold it more in the Palms if you want to slow things down have a little more control maybe around the greens um but I’ve always just held the club in the fingers and I’ve just adjusted my club speed and my shot with the length of this the length of the Arc of the swing because I like to keep my grip very similar for every shot I just think it’s so important to have a solid foundation because the grip is the only point of contact Club so but yeah what you said correct if you want to have a little more speed the op optimal combination is probably a strong grip with you know the club kind of in the fingers and if you want to have a strong grip but slow it down a little bit you can grip it more in the palm and uh obviously vice versa if you want to slow it down or hit a fade yeah for sure and it was interesting when you were talking about the white that you would walk in part of your pre-shot routine you’ll see that car will generally have the golf club down in this low position which if you just lightly clasp the golf club in your fingers it will naturally sit and then you can place your palm on top a lot of players will hold the golf club out in front of them they’ll just put their hands on like this and then they’ll have a weak orientation also on the palm which is not a great combination for accuracy or speed so starting with the golf club down by the side of your leg and just feeling that it’s secure within the fingers and you’ll see a few players even someone like Adam Scott they kind of bang the golf club up and down a couple of times like that to get a secure then walking in that’ll help you create uh or give you the ability to create a lot of speed throughout the swing so why don’t we go through your pre-shot routine standing behind the golf ball like you’re talking about before uh we’ll te one up mate and give it a send down there so I’ll just kind of show you like this is kind of when I walk into a golf ball hit my my fade on the course I kind of just walk into it get my line and kind of more kind of like this take one look set my feet take another look set the club and then just let it go and so I like to play some of that moves left to right cuz you know having it move left to right means I can predict you know where my Miss will be so my Miss is almost exclusively right and I’ve like I like that because I know with a with a shot move left right is going to land softer yeah it’s never fun seeing a ball moving off Target left cuz that that’s going to land hard and it’s going to run and it’s not going to run into a good spot but if it’s moving right it’s going to land soft and it might save you from having to reload or take a drop and uh and that allows me to aim up the left edge of wherever I want to be knowing that I’m either at the worst going to hit it a straight Pole or if I do hit a slice I’m still going to have a lot of room to uh stay on stay on the hole you know thanks for watching this video YouTube thinks that you would benefit from watching this one next so click that card and could be the tip that you need to take your game to the next level I’ll see you next time
