Stephen Gallacher has been named as the European Captain for the 2025 Junior Ryder Cup in New York.
The four-time DP World Tour winner returns to the role having led Europe to a record 20½ – 9½ victory against the United States in the 2023 Junior Ryder Cup in Rome, Italy, last year.
Six boys and six girls will take on the US Team in New York from September 23-25, 2025, with the first two days of the Junior Ryder Cup being played at Nassau Country Club before the decisive singles matches are held at Bethpage Black, the Ryder Cup venue, on the eve of the 45th edition of the biennial contest between Europe and the United States.
The Scot ended a run of six straight defeats for Europe in the Junior Ryder Cup as they secured a European record 11-point victory in Rome last year, and he will now aim to become the third Captain to lead Europe to victories both home and away, following Macarena Campomanes and Andy Ingram in 2002 and 2006 respectively.

Every two years, 24 of the best players from Europe and the United States go head-to-head in match play competition. The European Team are the reigning champions after winning at Marco Simone Golf & Country Club in 2023. I think what makes team golf special is it doesn’t happen very often and it’s got a different mindset you’ve got compatriots there that you’re all pulling for junior Rider cup is an unbelievable experience for six girls six boys from both sides of the Atlantic playing we’re basically looking at Future number ones like the rider cup it’s like nothing else it’s like the your sport to be honest my earliest sort of memories of the rider cups since I was yei you know my uncle Bernard was playing in them from 69 all the way up through to captaining it in 1991 9395 so it’s just something that I always wanted to play and I always wanted to try and emulate my uncle and play the wrer cup so it was something special to do it what a day for Steven gall of Scotland I think being part of the raer cup is one thing but to be part of a winning one is extra special you’re sharing the week with the world’s best golfers so it’s just a great environment to be in everybody’s pulling for everyone if you’re not playing you’re out cheering you’re out supporting the other guys that are playing oh my goodness how well did that go down with the Scottish fans and we just had a good bunch of lads and we all got on me other you know the captain was magic he kept all the outside agencies away and it just means we could just get home with our work which was to try and uh you know win the cup once again Europe have won the r of cup for the eighth time in the last 10 tournaments the junior Rider cup you know unofficially I think it started 97 and it’s just kept on going from there we’ve had so many good players come through it Rory meloy you know Suzanne pson who went on win rder cups and soim cups just to say the least it’s just a special event and it’s something that you know I was so honored to be asked to Captain it the junior Raider cup Rome I’ll never forget their faces when they first turned up at Marco Simone with a Coliseum Amphitheater on the first and they just walked on the te and you know and Luke Donald came to say hello and they were just Gob smacked you could see the excitement in their face blew my mind how good it was to be honest I took quite a lot of stuff that Captain Paul McGinley said to us and I tried to relate to them just tried to get them all together be as one it literally goes like that the greens in the middle of those trees could have played any boy with any girl they just got on so well and I think that’s what shows in the result we just gelled as a team pulled for each other and H the level of golf was just phenomenal wow what a way to finish [Applause] [Music] that to be asked again to come back at Nassau Country Club and Beth Page on the Thursday is a dream come true to be honest just for me to have a front row seat to watch the best 24 kids is an H in itself some of these kids are going to be performing they’re going to go right to the top you can just tell they’re just so ready to play and I can’t wait for the process to start so I can sit down and try and plot a way how to how to bring the the cup [Music] back to watch another Rider Cup video click here and subscribe here
